Wikipedia

I use Wikipedia a lot, yet for the past 2 days I have not beeb able to enter their sites with Blackberry's message saying http error 500 Internal server problem Be grateful if anyone out there can help Paul

Same issue. As a temporary fix, I am using Wapedia, which is very good. I would prefer though for Wikipedia to open in the browser as they always have instead of having to open Wapedia and search what I want.

  • Very strange problem with wikipedia on my Macbook Pro 15"

I have a Macbook Pro that I bought in June 2010, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 4 GB memory, Snow Leopard OSX (of which all may not be relevent) but recently I've been having possibly the WEIRDEST issue with wikipedia.  I just go to the site, and a split second after it loads the main page, part of it becomes blue almost like it's highlighted.  You may think this is just me being stupid and highlighting text but believe me I've tried to deselect and it isn't any use...I don't even think it's highlighting the page at all.  Frankly, I don't even know what it is.  here's a screenshot:
    http://s1165.photobucket.com/albums/q597/wmblair/?action=view&current=Screenshot 2012-04-16at44957PM.png
I highlighted part of the body of the article to show that it's something weird with wikipedia and not just me selecting something...I mean, at least one other person must've had this problem at some point, RIGHT?  It really looks like I'm highlighting it but it isn't possible to highlight those two specific parts of the article at the same time.  Hopefully I don't sound crazy, but this has been a puzzling mystery for me for weeks now.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions on what could've happened?  Obviously it didn't use to be like this.
    Thanks,
    Will

I cannot find a way to select two different chucks of text in safari, chrome, opera or omniweb.  In firefox however, I can use the command key to select additional text.  So that implies its a function of the browser implementation.

  • I don't know why, but firefox is oppening Adds in almost every website i open and shows me on wikipedia " URL" link shortcuts for certain words, sudenly

Almost 12 hours ago, after opening the browser ( home page is https://www.google.ro/ ) I navigated to wikipedia to search for a airplane and suddenly it opened by itself a new window with a " Mozilla annually survey ". I took that survey, which was consisting of 4 questions.
After that survey, randomly firefox started opening Adds.
I'll post here the link which i think might be " doing" this, if this is some kind a virus.... I'm just saying, because i can't find any explanation.

I have uploaded a Print Screenof my firefox and the Windows 7 Task Manager. You can see that firefox is using a big amunt of RAM and the Flash Player plugin too, half a gigabyte. I don't think it's normal, because it has never used so much memory not even when i opened 10 videos simultaneously on youtube that uses this plugin.
I hope that the picture has been uploaded, because in the last 10 minutes that I've spent writing this the square picture where the uploaded file should be has been loading all the time. Even now it is saying ""Uploading "Firefox Problem 3.png"... """ .
if you need more from me to tell you, i will.

  • There is a feature within an add-on or extension called SmartLink that automatically links to wikipedia. Where do I find this, and how do I change the options?

I've noticed that while using Firefox I find in many pages there are text such as names that become hyperlinks that open in wikipedia. The majority of these links open to the wrong pages. The only similarity is the name searched.

I have this same problem and I can't find the addon anywhere. I got it through Firefox addons so I would expect to be able to find it there. But I can't and I'm getting to the point of frustration of going to Google Chrome.

  • How do I go back to 3.6 from 4.0. Having problems with Wikipedia and can't work with a shorter display [half screen] good with 4.0. McAffee, Norton and other programs aren't supported on 4.0

I need to go back to 3.6 from 4.0 Because:
    1. Norton, some Mcaffee, and other needed programs aren't supported yet.
    2. Can't downsize 4.0 to fit properly on a half screen, when using a text editor on one half and 4.0 display on the other half. I have to go to a full screen to do somethings, and then back to half screen after. Things aren't easy anymore.
    3. When moving references and extras from Wikipedia to my PC, the reference numbers and other generated items are missing on my PC. Never with 3.6
Things are not easy going with 4.0!!!!!!!

  • How can I disable Wikipedia underlining? It does not appear as either an extension or an add-on.

The underlining has become a real problem. Many words are both links within the page I'm on and also wikipedia links. When I clicki the wiki link takes predence.

  • How can I see Indic scripts in Wikipedia using Firefox 3.6.3?

I use Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows XP. I cannot see the Indic scripts in Wikipedia.
The page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Multilingual_support_%28Indic%29 is of no use at all, because it never mentions Firefox 3.6.3, only 1.5 and 3.0 and what worked for them doesn't work for me.
What should I do to see all the scripts in Wikipedia correctly?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Maybe with a new version of Firefox?

    The Firefox version doesn't matter.
Only matters is that you have installed Indic (complex script) support in Windows and that you have all fonts installed as well.
Which Indic scripts are causing problems?
Does the help page indicate that support for that script is present in Windows XP?

  • How can I remove a virus from my iPhone? (wikipedia virus)

So I pulled up safari earlier and clicked on Wikipedia and then all of a sudden a **** virus appeared. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

There is no known malware capable of infecting any iOS device, unless it has been jailbroken. So whatever's going on here, it's not malware.
What it sounds like is some kind of browser redirect. Is it possible that you tapped something besides Wikipedia inadvertently? Of did the Wikipedia page load, and then, without you touching anything, you got redirected to a p0rn site? If the latter, it's possible someone edited the Wikipedia page you were looking at to redirect to that site. What page was it?

  • Is there any way to View video with HTML5 video browser, as from wikipedia articles, on my IPad mini?, Is there any way to View video with HTML5 video browser, as from wikipedia articles, on my IPad mini?

I do a lot of research using Wikipedia articles.  Sometimes those articles have video attached.  When I click on the play button of the image, it opens a floating window with the first frame of the video, but it's not moving. A thin banner at the top of it me: "For a better video playback experience we recommend a [ HTML5 video browser".  And touching the play button ( hoping it might play anyway) has no effect. It will not play.
Is HTML5 a PC/Windows only format? Or is there an App that will alow me to use these videos on my  iPad mini?  I've spend 6 hours already trying to find out what I can do about this, and I've made zero progress.  I've checked out a handful of apps in the app store, and don't even know what I'm looking at.  I got the Wikipedia app for mobile devices, and it doesn't offer the videos in the truncated articles it provides.  I've spoken to several Apple techs at the Applecare phone number, and no one there seems to know anything about it.
surely, I can't be the only one with this issue.  Please comment, please help.  Thank you all.

    Dear Bob,
I downloader a VLS Streamer from the Apple app store.  It requires some kind of helper software to run, which, as far as I can tell from the video at the developer's site, allows one to download content from one's mobile device to their computer.  Since I don't have a compatible computer for my iPad to link to, the instructions don't help my situation.  I emailed them with my query and will probably hear from them sometime this week.
I've lived with this problem for the 3 months I've had my iPad, and I'll keep after it until I have a solution.  But right now, I've run out of steam.  If this lead helps me to resolve my issue, I'll come back and HELPFUL or RESOLVED every response you've given.  I'm very grateful for your help.  Sorry I'm so utterly clueless.
Thanks once again.  Please don't cringe if I get back to you another day.

  • How to play wikipedia sound files (Ogg) in Safari 6.0.3?

  • A specific page on Wikipedia freezes Firefox

Firefox seems to hang permanently when I load the Blue Dog Coalition page on Wikipedia. I tried loading it with JavaScript disabled and in Safe Mode, to no avail. It loads fine in IE8.
I tried saving the page from IE8 and then opening the html file in Fx, freeze.
All other pages on WP load fine. I asked other persons to test it (Fx 9, Fx 10), freeze.
Is this a bug in Fx, a bug in the specific page or can I resolve this myself?

i can easily reproduce this issue with Firefox 10 and 11.0beta 1.. i filled a bug, you can follow it :)

  • Safari, Wikipedia and strange characters

    Hi guys
I'm have a problem at work with Safari. Some webpages with odd characters and are totally unreadable. For an example go to
    http://homepage.mac.com/thomjcook/PhotoAlbum35.html
This always happens on Wikipedia but also I get it on other websites too.
As I said this only occurs on my work computer and my colgeaues have the same problem. But at home on my G5 it displays fine. Any ideas chaps?
    Cheers in advance
    Thom

    here is one example:
    http://www.virtuatom.com/
This is a page in Latin-1, but the server is forcing your browser to use UTF-8 instead. Nothing you can do about it other than change the encoding manually on your browser and perhaps tell the author this is happening to his page.
The priority given to signals by browsers to set the encoding is 1) server, 2) code in the page, 3) user preference settings. A correctly set-up server sends no signals, so that the page code governs.

  • Why does Firefox keep showing a strange cursive font for certain sections of text on web sites like Wikipedia?

For past month or so, when I view Wikipedia a few other sites, sections of text are displaying in a large, cursive font. I can't find any rhyme or reason to what sections are showing this way. It's not happening on all sites but there are two or three where I'm seeing it. It makes things really hard to read. For a screen capture, see this file I put on [https://www.yousendit.com/download/T2dlQ3QycWZJMHRBSXRVag YouSendIt] YouSendIt.

I don't seem to have Arial Corsiva installed but when I just now disabled the Zapfino font family, then seems to fix the problem. Text now shows up as intended.

  • Many images in wikipedia are not shown. Typically some are greyed-out, and are of the form data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAA

Most images in wikipedia are not visible. Icons are ok.
Looking at page info, the greyed-out ones are of type Background in the list and type PNG Image in the text below them.
    Example:
    data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAoAAAALCAMAAABxsOwqAAAAGXRFWHRTb2Z0d2FyZQBBZG9iZSBJbWFnZVJlYWR5ccllPAAAAGBQTFRF////R2uZMmGd5rp2boqvMFyS9unUTXWr5KQ/N2mn/Pr42Jg14Zstl6a80K93XXiVooVQ57VnpLnW4a1a36ZMr7Cwgpm5PXGw78mO+O/g1t7n5Orxk6zMvMne7/Dw6+zt5K6gdAAAAAF0Uk5TAEDm2GYAAABdSURBVHheHcpFAgMxEANBDZhhmQP//2Uc90V1EICrLuti0YqnyORrbLSrWPHJ/ukn8bkzbrnVD/MwpjQOb+B2hyvbQe7BTiG8ZmYqUOLglA0rCrcJxpiCz049/f4A9ZID96SyhDEAAAAASUVORK5CYII=
    versions 3.5 3.6 and 4.0.1 Debian squeeze

i was able to get it to work from a suggestion in another thread: if you write a JSFL that goes through all your bitmaps and makes sure they do not uset he default compression of the document, but instead use custom compression (it can match the default however). this worked for me

  • How do I get the pictures to show up on Wikipedia on my iPhone?

Everytime I go to wikipedia, the pictures never show up at the top. It's super annoying. Can anyone help?

Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Messages/Attachments
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open. If it does, press command-F to start a Spotlight search. Search for items in "Attachments" of kind "Image." Does anything show up?
