Wikis, OD Masters, and a "What if" Question
I have several Xserves running 10.5.3, one has an established website and external IP, the others are accessible on the internal network. The public IP server is a OD replica; one of the internal servers is the OD Master. I have been attempting to ignore the Web Administration caveat that wiki and ical servers must be on the OD Master with limited success, at least with the wiki part.
What if I made the external IP server, currently an OD replica, into a subordinate OD Master? Would this be doable? Would it enable properly running wiki and ical on the external IP server? I really do not want to remove the existing (internal) OD Master server....
Page 69 of the Open Directory Admin manual says:
You can use cross-domain authorization between an Active Directory server and a Mac OS X v10.5 Open Directory server or between two Mac OS X v10.5 Open Directory servers. Cross-domain authorization does not work on a Mac OS X v10.4 server. To use PAC information, the pseudomaster server must have a Kerberos realm for the subordinate server to join.
To become a subordinate for a directory system you must use Directory Utility to join your server to an Active Directory or Open Directory server that has Kerberos configured and running. Then, using Server Admin, you must promote your Open Directory server to an Open Directory master. The subordinate server automatically determines that it is subordinate to an Active Directory or Open Directory server and configures itself accordingly.
Has any one done this? Problems? Does it accomplish the goal of having functioning wikis and ical server on the external IP server together with the existing internal OD Master server? Will I end up with conflicting systems? Will the LDAP directory become a mess?
Thoughts, suggestions, etc., would be sincerely appreciated.
Since this is about "what if's"... what if you tried to run it on a Virtual PC, then made an image of that VPC, then put that image on a different volume?

Apologies, as I am attempting to get to the bottom of this migration for my wife ( who is away on assignment ) and I am not 100% certain on the technical aspects of Aperture, so excuse my ignorance.
She has about 6TB worth of RAW Master images ( several 100 thousand ) which, as explained, are on an external RAID drive. She uses a separate Drive as a Vault . Can I assume that this Vault contains all of her edits, file structures , Metadata, etc ?
So, step by step........She can Import into Lightroom her Referenced Masters from her RAID and still keep them there ? Is that correct ?
The Managed Files that are backed up by her Vault , are in the pictures folder of her MacPro, but not in a structure that looks like her Aperture library ? This means Lightroom will just organize all the Managed files, simply by the date in the Metadata ? Am I correct ( Sorry for being so tech illiterate ).
How do I ensure she imports into Lighgtroom in exactly the same format as she runs her workflow in Aperture ? ( Projects, that are organized by year and shoot location and Albums within those projects with sub-locations, or species , etc ). What exactly do I need to do in Aperture please to organize Managed Files to create a mirror structure of Aperture on my internal Hard Drive ?
There are a couple of points I am unsure about in regard to Lightroom. Does it work in the same way as Aperture ? Meaning, can she still keep Master Files on an external RAID and Lightroom will reference them ? If the answer is yes, how do you back up your Managed ( edited ) work in Lightroom ? ( Can you still use an external Drive as a Vault ? ) . Will the vault she uses now be able to continue to back up Managed Files post migration ? -

Try doing it on your computer with iTunes and then sync to your iPad to see if it clears the problem.

Ive Had 32gb IPOD Touch n now just got an 8gb IPHONE 4S. My question is how am I supposed to sync my iphone without it syncing my current library that is well over 32gb of info? In other words, can i pick and choose what I want to put on just iphone?
thanks but if Im using iCloud For my Iphone and backing my ipod touch to my computer is that ok or would I have to back both up to ICloud. As u can telll, I want to kep the 2 devices seperate as much as possible, only putting on my phone what i choose to download, buy, or take from my current itunes library most importantly.

I never set up any security questions for my apple ID and I was asked on the app store to sign in and answer my security questions, I never made any in the first place and it came up with questions that I didn't know. I've already been in support and tried to reset them, but I have to answer the security questions in order to change them. Is there any way to find out what they are?

Update on Bioinformatics WIKI, scripting challenges, and a general question
I am waiting for my site to go on-line at Oak Ridge National Labs (USA, Tennessee). Should be another week or so, maybe less.
When that happens, you will see a veritable explosion of scripting challenges in my wiki (Emerging Technologies->Bioinformatics.)
One general question in preparation for these challenges.
There are a number of standard bioinformatic programs that can be run interactively via the web at various sites, e.g. "BLAST" and "STRIDE".
Although these can also be run locally, this requires that you download large databases and keep them updated.
So here's my question to the scripting experts:
Are scripting languages powerful enough to submit queries to web pages and then use regex's to parse the html that is returned?
Bill Mann has used PERL to do some of the required regex parsing, but there is a lot left to do, and, his stuff only works when a perl program is invoking a bioinformatic program locally, not interactively.
If so, we all can do some beautiful stuff together , if anyone is interested ......my wiki on...
There is by it's very nature no such thing as MY WIKI, except you run your own wiki project in an exclusive mode. Which were...well ... unusual.
