does anybody know if i can get a 17" macbook pro on special order . i am thinking of getting one next year?
i realize nobody here works at mac . so just a shot

No new 17 in models made. Apple found sales on them was too low.
Some are available in the Apple Refurbished store (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac). They are upgradable (HD, RAM).

Somehow, OS X doesn't detect Bluetooth in your computer. First, reset the PRAM and the SMC, and see if you can use Bluetooth then.
If not, hold Command and R keys while your computer is starting to start in OS X Recovery, and reinstall OS X. If, after reinstalling OS X, you can't use Bluetooth, there's a hardware issue with your Mac, so take your Mac to an Apple Store or reseller

ORDERING A NEW MACBOOK PRO...

I am a medical student currently based in Athens, Greece and will be vistiting the States (NYC) for a Medical Convention in ten days. During my stay, I would like to buy a new MacBook Pro, along with some software. Does anyone know how I can place an order for a special configuration Mac (and not just what might be available in the NYC Apple Store at the time) and discuss all available payment options with Apple? I am asking this because the AppleStore website only allows for credit card payment options to be enabled when placing an order online, and only when a particular shipment address is available in the US for the products to be sent to. Furthermore, I can not find an official e-mail address by means of which to contact Apple for information. How can I place my order beforehand (so that the products I have requested may be available at the NYC Apple Store on my arrival in ten days, and made to my specifications) and arrange for the shipment time to coincide with the convention time, as would be convenient? Also, in the same context, does Apple allow people visiting the States to purchase an iPhone in retail fashion, without using an AT&T account? Sorry to disturb with this, and thanks in advance to anyone willing to assist.

As end users we can't really speculate regarding Apple's policy. Neither do the terms of use on the right, which you read to enter the board really help in that matter. I would call the Apple Store online to ask your questions.

Can Apple Store order a custom MacBook Pro For Me...

I purchased a 2015 MacBook Pro two days ago. Purchased the 256gb 8GB ram model. I find that I do actually need the 16GB of RAM. If I still have my macbook pro within the return policy, can Apple Store order one for me (with 16gb of RAM) and let me use the one I currently have until the 16GB model comes into the store and I just swap computers and pay the difference? Or do I just pay the difference up front and swap computers when the 16GB model comes in?
I would be without a computer for the time being, and I have clients that I work with on a day to day basis. Being without a computer would be very bad...

You may be able to arrange with the Apple Store genius or specialist, to help you migrate
the current computer content to the new one when it arrives, and before you surrender the
one you want to upgrade from; they may also be able to help erase the returned model.
Usually from the time you contact Apple and arrange to return the computer (under the
14 day time frame) you then have a certain amount of time to send or take the return
to Apple; so if you contact Apple on say, the 12th day, and there are no weekends or
holidays to disrupt the physical time-frame return, you may have more than just 2 days.
I was told after discussing the return of a new Mini, (on the 8th day) that I had 14 days
after the day I told them I was wanting to return the computer. And if I chose to change
my mind, I could do nothing and that time-frame would elapse.
However, returns and exchange policies vary from OK to non-existent when the purchase
was through an authorized reseller that was not an authentic official Apple Store, or via the
official online Apple Store. An independent reseller usually will not allow returns or refunds.
Hopefully you can work it out to get the model you want and not be stuck with two, or none...

I am not able to update iMovie to my macbook pro late 2011 which came bundled with it.

It shows that imovie update is available in the update tab, but it doesn't show in the purchased tab. iLife '11 came bundled with my Macbook Pro but when I try to update iMovie, it tells me to sign in with the apple id that I purchased it with. I have no other apple ID. Sometimes it tells me that I had to have purchased it from the app store first before I can update it. What's the solution to this problem, please. iPhoto updated with no problem. There was no update for Garage Band so I don't know if that will be a problem when an update is available. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply but that didn't work for me. The trouble was imovie wasn't showing up in my purchases even though it was saying I needed an update because it was installed on my computer. I finally contacted the itunes app store. I was told that the imovie app shows up as a purchase for my apple ID. I had to delete it from my applications folder, then repurchase it. That worked. Apple refunded the money to my card once I provided the order number to them. All is well, now.

Just ordered a new macbook pro

I am excited about receiving my new Macbook Pro next week. I have never owned one but has been working with one at my church, which is the main reason why I got it. We are going to be running Final Cut Studio 2. One of my friends told me that I may need to invest in an external hard drive because the projects we will be doing (broadcasts for tv) may eat up alot of hard drive space. Which leads to my first question - where can I get an external hard drive and how much do they run? Is this something I need to consider?
Also, because I will be transferring video clips from the church to home. will a regular flash drive work? Or are there special ones just for Mac (you can tell I was primarily a PC user)

Yes, you'll most likely need an external drive. The standard Mac OS X and bundled software installation isn't small and full installation of Final Cut Studio is quite enormous itself. Just that will chomp through nearly half a 120GB drive.
You can get external drive from pratically any computer component seller, even probably Walmart, but not all drives are equal. I find those from G-Technology a good buy…

… and will match your new MBP. Just be sure to buy one with a FireWire 800 connection as it'll perform better than FireWire 400 and way better than USB2.
As for moving video data, you're best to do it on an external drive. USB flash drives won't be large enough for the data quantities yuo'll have. An iPod Calssic might be an interesting solution if you have one.

Why not able to access Family Share on MacBook Pro?

I am supposed to be part of a Family Share account. I can access Family Share & other family member's purchases on my iPad but NOT on my MacBook Pro that is running Maverick OS. I log into iTunes, click on the drop down window at the top where my name is located but when the window drops down Family Share is not an option nor am I able to see the names of the other family members in the group. I have tried going to "System Preferences" to "iCloud" and then try to look for "Manage Family" but it is not there. Even if I then if after getting to "iCloud" & logging into "Account Details" there is not anything about "Manage Family" or "Family Share"
Can you not participate with Family Share using Maverick OS?
I would REALLY appreciate assistance with this issue.

It appears you need Yosemite.

I just ordered a 2.33 GHz C2D Macbook pro with 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard drive, etc. are there any apps I should get for it right off the bat? Are there any problems that are known f this model? Or is there anything at all i should get for it?

Still not able to input video on my Macbook Pro

I have a new MacBookPro. I used to be able to use my Dazzle Hollywood Video input device, to import tapes into my Imovie program. Since I got the new computer I cannot get Imovie to see anything other than the Facetime camera. I cannot switch to the Dazzle unit. Is there some trick to getting my computer to see the VHS tape?
I have tried everything I can think of .

Contact the Dazzel vendor or developer. Confirm if their software is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.7. Your current os is outdated.

IPhone headset no more able to control iTunes playback on MacBook Pro

After I have updated to Mac OS X 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1 on the latest 13" MacBook Pro, it's not possible to control the iTunes via iPhone headset anymore. Only the volume keys work but the middle key (which can be used for play, pause, next, previous, fast forward) stopped working. I've been looking for any possible settings to activate that in iTunes but I can't see any. Can anyone else confirm that? And could you suggest a solution? I was really used to controlling iTunes playback the same way I am controlling it on the iPhone and I thought it was really cool that Apple has allowed such consistency and interoperability between products. I hope that's a bug and not a decision.

I do not want to store my library on my macbook because it is a work computer and do not want to take up storage space there.
