Wild card prompt

Hi ,
Can u give the difference between wild card and multi select prompts.
THANKS!

user,
Multi select prompt is vice versa of drop down functionality i.e. In multi select prompt you are provided with a capability to select multiple values.
I did not hear of wild card prompt in OBEE. But what I assume is you can search using wild card characters within Multi select prompt.
Open the multi select prompt, within the pop-up window you have like, begins with, etc. thus based on your need use _(underscore) to search.

  • Using a column twice in a dashboard prompt -- multi-select and wild-carding

    My client is using OBIEE 10.1.3.2; they cannot upgrade at this time. However, they want to be able to enter both a list of values and a wild-card search for additional values at the same time for a single column in a dashboard prompt.
    Since they cannot upgrade, they do not have the wild-card search feature of the enhanced multi-select prompt feature of 10.1.3.3 and later releases.
    Has anyone found another method to do this, perhaps by using a column twice in a dashboard prompt or in separate dashboard prompts on the same dashboard apge, in order to OR the results of a multi-select and an edit box (with wild-card pattern-match entry)? I suspect that will not work -- that the results sets of one prompt for a column will override any other prompt result sets for the same column.
    Has anyone found another way to do this, prior to release 10.1.3.3?

    Yes, it is possible.
    This is how to do it:
    In your report you need to add two filters on the same column and combine them with OR.
    First filter: is prompted.
    Second filter: is like presentation_variable
    Then protect this filter!* This will make that your prompt will be filtered on the pres. variable and that it won't be overwritten by another prompt.
    Now create your dashboard prompt:
    First add your column with an edit box and attach the presentation variable to it.
    Then edit the formula of the column, so it will not reference to the column anymore. (Which isn't needed, since the value will be set to the pres. variable.)
    Then add the same column with a multi-select.
    Then test it and check your results.

    i was wondering how i would change a wild card in a script i am working on. right now its set up to use % as a wild card, when i prompt the user for an input.
    i would like to change that so that all the user would have to do is hit the enter key to bypass the prompt. i think i am supposed to use the default syntax but i am not sure where to put it.

  • Using wild card with Captivate 5 ( fill in the blank)

    I am training software package that requires many fill in the blanks besides the login screeen.  If I were to recording the actions using Captivate 5 record, I think,  I can only use a demonstration recording as oppsed to having my students interact with the product by filling in the blank. For example, my product asks for a login. When I login to demonstrate how it should be done, the product reponds correctly.  By my student is limited to watching as opposed to interacting.  While login is not such a big deal, there are several other areas where the same concept applies.  Ideally, I wish to use wild cards in fill in the blank so that any name or information can be used to interact with Captivate and move the slide along.    Is this possible, and if so, how?

    I think Lilybiri may be misinterpreting your use of the term "wildcards" to mean using them in the programming sense.
    Perhaps you are referring to the characters that appear in a typical Password field to hide what the user is actually typing?
    If so, the text field object in Captivate has an option to use these password characters so that the user's typing characters are hidden.  The characters used are asterisks, which are what some people refer to as wildcard characters.

  • File adapter wild card not working

    Hi Gurus,
    My file adapter seems to have issues with me
    This adapter do not obey me when I specify wild cards. I have tried * , ? and also "Adavnced selection of source file" but no use. Although, he is a perfect gentleman when I specify complete file names.
    Could you please suggest how to tame him?
    Regards,
    AV.

    Hi,
    this is what SAP Help says about it:
    file.sourceFileName=<filename>
    Specify the name of the file that you want to process.
    The name can contain a placeholder (*) at any point, so as to be able to select a list of files for processing.
    The following are valid examples for filename:
    myFile.txt
    my*.txt
    *.txt
    File.
    File.*
    myle.
    Names that comprise more than two parts are also permitted.
    Hope it helps.

  • Wild Card as key field value in Content Conversion

    Hi,
         Can any one please tell me that can a wild card such as '*' be used as key field value.
    Thnx,
    Pravesh Puria.

    Hi Pravesh
    For the file name in the sender file adapter you can use the '*' or '?'(as a placeholder for exactly one character)
    You can also enable the "Advanced Selection for Source File" in the sender file adapter, where you can do two things:
    a)you can specify an exclusion mask for the file name specified above.
    b)you can specify/lits multiple directories with a file name and an associated exclusion mask, e.g. in file name you put ".txt" and in the associated exclusion mask "a". The every file with ".txt" except "a" will be fetched from that directory.
    Try it out.

  • Characteristic wild card in report painter

    Dear experts..
    I am developing a report painter for PS cost element report with structure CCSS.
    I want to create rows with dynamic characteristic and I am thinking of using wildcard in the characteristic variable.
    What I am trying to achieve is basically to filter WBS only for those which consist "ABC" in the project number (ABC in POSID). I know it can be achieved in the selection screen but I want the selection screen to be as generic as possible and only filter it at row level.
    In the normal functional report we can use '*' as the wildcard but it can not be used in characteristic variable.
    Appreciate any enlightenment on how to use variable or set to be able to do this.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Alexei,
    Welcome to SDN.
    You need to give the exact file name. System can not determine file name with wild card.
    Hope this will help.

  • How to use wild card character in input field

    Hi
    I'm creating model in which the Purchase Order information need to be entered in Input Field.
    My requirement is search using wild char char as '*'
    Let say in input field  i gave PO order as 20* then it'll search for all the PO's which starts from 20.
    Could you please share some documents/guidelines, for this issue
    Thanks and Regards
    Puneet

    Hi,
    You can use the wild card char in the input box.please try  below steps.
    1.Check whether the input string has ' * '  char using "CONTAINS(text,pattern)" operation.
    2.If yes, Replace the ' * ' with space by "REPLACE(text,pattern,repstr)" operation.->consider this result as input2
    3.Now , Have a Filter from ur webservice(which gives your Purchase Order information )
    and filter it by the condition " BEGINS(WSField,input2)"
    the Final expression in the filter will be "_=IF(CONTAINS(input,""),BEGINS(HelpWSField,REPLACE(input,"\","")),true)_"
    Hope it helps.

  • When using rabbitmq-jms for vFabric RabbitMQ javax.jms.Message.getJMSDestination does not return the actual destination when it is received from a consumer listening on a Topic with a wild card

    When using rabbitmq-jms for vFabric RabbitMQ javax.jms.Message.getJMSDestination does not return the actual destination when it is received from a consumer listening on a Topic with a wild card. I have tested with both 1.0.3 and 1.0.5 clients with RabbitMQ 3.1.5.
    I was wondering if the community was aware of this problem and if there are any workarounds? If not what is the proper channel to file a bug report. An example code snippet is below. The test fails because the TextMessageMatcher expects the destination passed in on construction (second parameter) to equal the desination on the message received (aquired from getJMSDestination).
            Mockery context = new Mockery();
            final MessageListener messageListener = context.mock(MessageListener.class);
            final Latch latch = new LatchImpl();
            final String prefix = "test" + System.currentTimeMillis();
            context.checking(new Expectations() {
                    oneOf(messageListener).onMessage(with(new TextMessageMatcher("MSG1", prefix + ".1234")));
                    will(new CustomAction("release latch") {
                        @Override
                        public Object invoke(Invocation invocation) throws Throwable {
                            latch.unlatch();
                            return null;
            final Connection connection = createConnection(null, null);
            Session session = connection.createSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
            connection.start();
            Topic wildcardTopic = (Topic) getInitialContext().lookup(prefix + "." + "#");
            Topic destination = (Topic) getInitialContext().lookup(prefix + ".1234");
            final MessageConsumer consumer = session.createConsumer(wildcardTopic);
            consumer.setMessageListener(messageListener);
            MessageProducer producer = session.createProducer(null);
            producer.send(destination, session.createTextMessage("MSG1"));
            latch.await(5000);
            connection.close();
            Thread.sleep(5);
            context.assertIsSatisfied();

  • Wild card search in a FM

    Hi experts,
    I have a FM in which there is one table customer_name
    It has fields as SIGN (type SIGN), OPTION (type OPTION), LOW (type name1_gp), HIGH (type name1_gp).
    Now the user can give single value, or a range of values for the customer name.
    I am familiar with the wild card search for a select option, but not sure how to apply that funda here.
    For ex: If a customer enters the customer name as MG*, then all the names starting with MG should appear
    in the output.
    Similarly, if the user enters AP* in LOW and MG* in high, the corresponding output should be displayed.
    Can you please help me out?
    Thanks,
    Ajay.

    Hi,
    Do like this
    t_table-sign = 'I'.
    t_table-option = 'CP'.
    t_table-low = 'AB*'.
    t_table-high = 'MG*'.
    append t_table.
    Use this in your select query.

  • Alert Rule - not working. Wild Card character issue

    Hi All,
           I have a requirement where I need to trigger alerts for mapping failures
    of all the interfaces whose namespace is urn:abc.com:odna* or urn:abc.com.odna*.     (in the first instance, there is dot before odna and int he second instance, a colon before odna )
    So to suit both the cases, I gave urn:abc.comodna in the Alert Rule.
    It worked before. But now its not working.
    Then when i changed it to urn:abc.com:odna* it works again. i really dont understand how it worked before and why it fails now.
    What is the reason for the unpredicatable behaviour of WildCard Character based Alert Rules?
    Should Wild Card Characters be avoided completely?

    Hey
    Just create two separate alert rules for the same alert category
    one for urn:abc.com:odna* and another for urn:abc.com.odna*.
    but before that please make sure that "Suppress multiple alerts of this rule" box is unchecked.
    Also please check SAP Note 913858

  • How to use wild card with variable in powershell

    HI
    i am trying to use wild card with variable but getting an error message, "You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression."
    $src = 'C:\Temp'
    $TabletzipPath = $src + "tab*.zip"
    i would like to copy the tablet zip file which is placed in in $src to be copied in $TabletzipPath.
    i am using tab* because this file name changes continuously. so if i give a fix name for example tablet1.zip than it works fine.

    Not sure if the wildcard will work without seeing how you're using the variable.
    That said, I can say that it looks like you're missing the backslash between the $src path and the wildcard filename. As-is the above code assigns a value to $TabletzipPath of "C:\temptab*.zip" instead of what you are likely expecting ("C:\temp\tab*.zip")
