Will 802.11n card fit into 2005 iMac?

Is there any point? Perhaps not, but I want to consign my iMac G5 to a workshop studio in my garden, and I need to get a wi-fi card for it first. Will the newer 802.11n cards fit in old 2005 G5 iMacs, or is the slot only intended for the older 802.11g cards?

Will the newer 802.11n cards fit in old 2005 G5 iMacs...
No
...or is the slot only intended for the older 802.11g cards?
Yes, only for the AirPort Extreme card.

  • 802.11n card in an older MacBook Pro

I have looked around & it seems you can buy an Airport Extreme 802.11n card from the Fastmac online store. I watched the instructional video on Macworld of the guy installing it & it seems pretty easy & the performance improved greatly in his laptop. Before I follow through with this, I just wanted to check & see if anyone else has done this self-installed upgrade & how it worked out for them. I want to call Apple to see if they will do it for me, but I don't believe they will. My laptop is still under warranty (ends in mid 2009) & I would hate to void that warranty, but if Apple wont give me an upgrade that was available a year after I bought my laptop, then I will have to do it myself. I love Apple, but sometimes they just seem to zip by too fast & forget about their previous models & that customers still own them. So if anyone could shed some light on the matter, it would be really great. Thanks.

Well, I am not looking for a faster connection with file transfers within the house, what I am looking for is a solid, stable, consistent, connection. We just bought a new NetGear wireless router & the PC that is hard wired into it works fine, we were hoping that it would output a strong signal throughout the house for my laptop & the Wii & DS's. The Wii & the DS's work great, but for some reason my laptop can't keep the connection for more than 5 minutes at a time. It is VERY frustrating. I have read in several forums, where people have had the same problem, the MacBook Pro (older model) just can't hold onto a connection for more than a few minutes. I was in the same room as the router & my airport bars would go from 4, to 2, to 1 & then no signal & would have to search for an access point & then connect to it, only to have go through that same mess all over again. This is why I wanted to switch to a "n" card instead of "g". So that I would have a more stable connection. The router says that the "g" connection is supported up to a few hundred feet away from the router... I'm lucky if I keep a connection when I am sitting on a chair with the router underneath me.

  • Can a pcie-1x sound card fit into the third pcie-8x slot of P7N Platinium ?

can a pcie-x1 sound card fit into the third pcie-x8 slot of P7N Platinium (indicated by the green arrow in the pic below) ?
what is the intended usage or practical usage for that 3rd slot?
Also, kindly enquire if 3 ways SLI really feasible and any driver is released and tested to support it?
    My rig specification are as follow: 1)msi p7n sli platinium, 2)intel e8400 stock cooler, 3) 2x 2GB Crucial Ballistix  DDR2 800, 4)2x msi 8800gt oc 512mb  5) acbel M8 750 6) Samsung 160gb hdd 7) Asus DRW.
thank you. i do like this motherboard, very nice layout and the circu-pipe in particular. lack of sata ports has been compensated by purchasing a 4 sata ports controller card. if the third pcie x8 is a pcie x1 slot, that will be even better.

    Yes you can
great to hear that. like that, i can consider buying the Asustek Xonar D2X Audio Card PCI-E as the green indicated pcie x8 is my only unoccupied slot after using 2  gfxs (2 slots) and 1 sata controller pci card.
    thank for your prompt reply.

  • Where Can I Get An 802.11n Card???

Anyone Know Where I Can Purchase An 802.11n Card???

Are you actually getting the 802.11n speeds? Have you checked the wireless card that is installed in your MacBook so that you are sure it is the newer card? Remember that these are backwards compatible. This was an add on for the newer core2duo MacBook Pro and C2D MacBooks. Apple did not include it until the newer versions came out.
I guess there is a chance you might have one if it was built in the last week of core duo models and they had already got the 802.11 modules in. Which as I said Apple did not start doing till the core 2 duo.
I only know that when these modules were checked by different people none found the new modules in the core duo. That is why people are upgrading theirs now.
I guess the important thing is your happy with the speeds you are getting:->

  • Can a G3 iBook airport card fit into my G4 17" iMac?

Just wondering if anyone know whether my old iBook airport card will fit into the G4 17" iMac.

Your iBook G3 uses the original 802.11b AirPort card.
Your 1 GHz iMac G4 requires the 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme card. Your iMac can not use the older card.

  • Wireless 802.11n card for iMac G5

I am running a 802.11n wireless network (linksys) with WPA Personal security. Is there any USB or internal adapter to allow a wireless connection to my home network. I have a iMac G5 Power mac 8.2 and the airport card worked fine with the g class network? Apple's official stance is that they do not provide or support any external or 3rd party device to assist. They suggest I drop back dwon to a g network. So much for cutting edge...

rottencore, Welcome to the discussion area!
There is no internal solution. For an external USB solution, look at Quickertek.

  • Can anyone recommend a good 802.11n card/usb adaptor for a Windows PC?

I'm about to buy a new iMac and an Airport Extreme Base Station, and I would like my wife's Windows XP PC to be able to take advantage of 802.11n, as the base station will be in the living room and our office room (where the new iMac and the PC live) gets a terrible reception with 802.11g (thick interior walls being the main problem).
I've had a look online at various USB/PCI products, but can any of you recommend one that works particularly well with the Airport Extreme?
Perhaps the Airport Express would be the best solution, as my wife's PC has an ethernet card, plus we also have a USB printer in the office that we'd like to share over the whole house?

I would agree with that, go SATA if you're an island. That's what the majority of my system is set up with.
However, I also have a DSR-11 connected via firewire, and I get firewire drives shipped to me by clients, so I need an additional firewire bus. I bought the cheapest fw400 card I could find, and haven't had any issues yet. I think I spent $35 at CompUSA.
Are there issues that would make me want to buy a better card?

  • MacBook Air:     Will 802.11n Wi-Fi  work in a 'remote' location.

Hello, could I seek some guidance from Macbook Air users?
    Brief Background:
I live in a small town in Thailand some 320 kms south of Bangkok. This is not at the end of the world and technology is slowly catching up e.g. but no 3G here.
There is Wifi here around the centre of town but I do not think it covers the whole surrounding area also WiFi does is not always seem to be available 24 hours.
I have a Nokia mobile that sometimes 'pick-ups' a WLANs and finds a signal named 'SMC".
The phone says I am connected to 'SMC' and the display show the Wi-Fi icon (not encrypted).
I need a notebook that does not need to be connected to the Internet via Ethernet.
    My question:
Apple tech specs state  802.11n Wi-Fi wireless networking built into the MBA.
Will a MBA be able to connect to the 'outside world' using this technology when you consider my location?
Do I need Airport Express Base Station in my house if I had a MBA?
Does Airport Express amplify a signal or search for one?
Would appreciates it if someone can give me some opinions.
    Thank you.

Simply set up a Wi-Fi router that the ATV and iPhone can connect to, if this device has Internet access that is best, then both devices will be able to connect via AirPlay.
If the router does not have Internet access, neither device will be able to stream Internet content. They will only be able to play the content that exists on the devices.

  • Firwire cable not fitting into new imac 24"!

My imac 24" has just arrived...
I bought a 6 pin to 6 pin firewire cable to migrate my stuff from my G4.
The cable fits into the G4 but not the imac 24"!!!!
    What am i doing wrong?
Also, can i migrate stuff later after playing around withthe new imac?
    thanks in advance!

So is it too late to use the firewire to migrate my stuff?
The only things i definatley will migrate will be documents, photos and itunes library.
No, it's not too late. You can still connect the two systems via Firewire Target Disk Mode and use the Migration Assistant (in your iMac's Applications -> Utilities folder) to bring over all your documents. Or you can just drag them over manually.
I don't recommend migrating applications from a PowerPC-based Mac to an Intel-based one. It's rare, but sometimes it has happened that the Migration Assistant overwrites a previouly-installed Intel-native app with the PowerPC-based one. I don't think Migration Assistant will copy all the extra folders for Adobe's apps anyway, though I could be wrong. I'd suggest just reinstalling Photoshop and Word on the new system.

  • Installing Airport Extreme 802.11n card in eMac killed keyboard?

    Hello,
I got an Airport Extreme 802.11n base station and card for my eMac (which I want to run in the next room from my new Mac Pro) from local Apple Store yesterday.
I read and followed the card installation instructions exactly. - This included installing the software from the CD.* - But as soon as I installed the card, my mouse and keyboard lost contact with the eMac. (Totally unresponsive to key commands or mouse movement.)
I shut down my eMac and my (new) Philips DSL modem: both of these have shown no symptoms up to the time of the card installation. I un-installed the card and waited 5-minutes. Modem and eMac came back normally and so did my keyboard and mouse.
Just prior to installation, I ran DiskWarrior and Repair Permissions. Also: I unplugged and "re-plugged" the USB keyboard and mouse before shutting down of eMac & modem - this made no difference.
    * I did notice: The documentation for the base station says the eMac needs Airport Setup Assistant 5.2. The eMac has Airport Setup Assistant 4.2. Yet - when I ran the installation program, it recognized and reported as updated Airport Setup Assistant 4.2.
Anyone have a solution to my loss of keyboard and mouse with card installed? Please - the Mac Pro arrives tomorrow.

    I'm answering my own question:
I got around to simply trying a second time to install the Airport Extreme card in this eMac. This time - I shut it down before starting installation of the card.
I suspected that shutting down would be a good idea - since it seems very likely that the System needs to load whatever drivers or extensions are needed to enable Airport. But the instruction either did not mention shutting down before installing the card or I missed mention of it in my haste to complete this and numerous other tasks before day's end.
Anyway - that seems to be what happened because bootup was normal and the mouse cursor and keyboard worked as soon as the desktop appeared.
Now - I proceed to setup the base station and test it on the eMac. If all goes as I hope - in 36 hours I'll have both this old eMac and the new Mac Pro living happily in their separate rooms.

  • 802.11n card 42T0825 installation (antennas)

    hi gurus here:
i got the new 802.11abgn card (42T0825) and ready to get it installed without adding the third antenna. but with existing two antennas (one is grey and one is black), the card has three connectors. so my question is: which two connectors should i use?
    thanks

If it's the same connectors as on my N-card, the #3 one is the one in the middle, and the one you should not use (it's for the white antenna-cable you don't have).
Which ones you connect to #1 and #2 doesn't really matter, but the sequence is grey, white, black, so grey for 1 and black for 2.

  • HT2309 will a 3gs sim card fit into a 4gs phone?

can i put my 3gs sim card into a 4s iphone?

No. The iPhone 3GS uses a standard SIM where the iPhone 4S uses a microSIM. It is possible to cut down a standard SIM, but that often causes problems, so it would be best to get a microSIM from your cell carrier.
