Will a 14" iBook Logic board fit inside a 12" iBook?

I've seen pictures of the logic boards on various retailer sites, and want to upgrade my 1.0GHz 12" to as fast as possible. I was thinking about the 1.33 GHz 12" but if the 1.42GHz 14" fits then that would be pretty sweet... does anybody have any insight on this?

"I really don't think it's worth the bother....just get a 12" one."
Whether or not it is "worth the bother" is soley a matter of what you consider a bother. To some, and I suspect this of the OP, it is very rewarding to do repairs and modifications, and particularliry mods that have not been done before. I say kudos to the OP for trying. It may be cheaper to buy a used 1.33GHz ibook but doing his proposed mod, whether he is successful or not, will make him a little better off than the "can't do's".
In fact, on this forum all I ever read is "have it looked at" or "send it to Apple" or "it is not user replaceable" etc. Nobody here ever seems to entertain the concept of actually doing something for him/herself.

  • Will a late 2007 logic board fit in a early 2006 chassis?

I have a 2006 MBP and the GPU went out in it. Common problem, so I've been told. I am just going to replace the logic board and was wondering if the late 2007 logic boards fit in the early 2006 body. If not, what will fit? Just trying to get a little more bang for my buck. It's a 17 inch, by the way.

The answer is no for any one who looks at this.

  • What Logic Board fits an iBook G3 900 mhz?

    Hi!
I have an iBook G3 12" 900mhz with a bad logic board. I'm planning to replace it. Can I fit all kinds of dual USB iBook Logic Boards in there?
    Cheers!

    What are the symptoms?
You may know that enough Dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from the logic board problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Check out the FAQ page and if the symptoms look familiar, give Apple a call. If the iBook qualifies, it's a free fix.
You can find the original purchase date of the iBook, by entering its serial number into the box toward the bottom right of Apple's main support page under "About Your Support Coverage."
If it is past the three-year time limit (which it probably is), try calling Apple and ask for Customer Relations (NOT Customer Service--they can't help you) and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case.
If the answer from Apple is absolutely, positively, "NO!" and the symptoms are those of the classic logic board failure described on the FAQ page, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Displays Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.

  • Will an iMac 1.25GHz G4 20" logic board fit in a 17" base?

I have an opportunity to get an iMac 20" G4 1.25GHz logic board that has USB 2.0. The tech specs say that the 17 & 20 are both 10.6" in diameter and they look to have the same I/O connectors. Does anyone know if the 20" will fit in the 17" housing?

  • Will Apple replace my Logic Board for free?

Sounds crazy I know. But I read a bunch of different threads on many sites saying they replace it for free and some say they don't. Let me explain why I believe I shouldn't pay to get this repaired. Since I bought my MBP I've had problems from it. When I got it I kept getting the message saying...you need to restart your computer...otherwise known as a Kernal Panic. I took it to apple , they couldn't find the problem so they replaced the hard drive for free. This didn't fix the problem but I did not feel like having to continue to take my computer to apple because I do all of my work on my computer so I really didn't the time and I just worked around it. Just recently my computer has began to shut off randomly while using certain programs such as Chrome and Apple Motion. After putting a thread on here I've learned that this is a kernel panic once again but being caused by the logic board. Now I don't know if I received a faulty computer but day one I've been having these problems. Which is the reason I'm asking will Apple repair what wasn't caused by the user?
I need to add that I love Apple and their products, I've had and have many computers and other devices from them that function flawlessly. This MacBook Pro is the only thing I'm having a problem with.
Thanks for any help that anyone one can provide.

Took me a little bit to get this posted becuase i just had another kenrmal panic, but here it is.

  • Will Apple do a Logic Board Replacement?

I have a 2.16 C2D Merom Blackbook. Because of the way Leopard hogs ram, the original 2GB capacity (I currently have 1) may not be enough soon. I am going to switch to the Blackbook from a 4 year old PC as my main machine in 6 or 8 monts.
My question is: does anyone know if Apple will replace the logic board in my Macbook with a new one with Santa Rosa and a 2.6 C2D for the regular fee as it just bit the dust (I am assuming the processor is permanently attached to the logic board, otherwise I would keep the current 2.16 C2D? I am guessing it would be >$300, but it would probably be worth it to get a Santa Rosa logic board, 4 gigs of corsair ram and a 250GB hard drive.
Also, does anyone know if the pre Santa Rosa Macbook will support 3GB of ram, as the chipset supposedly supports it, even though it would break the dual-channelness?
EDIT: Forgot to say its Parallels that is the real memory drain that could drive me to need 4 gigs of ram. MacOSX, Windows XP and Ubuntu at the same time would be sweeeeet!

Only Apple can tell you that.
Also, does anyone know if the pre Santa Rosa Macbook will support 3GB of ram, as the chipset supposedly supports it, even though it would break the dual-channelness?
They support 4 GB the regular c2d could use 3gb and the original cd 2 gb.

  • Would an 1236 logic board fit into an a1211 case?

    Hi all,
I'm just curious, I picked up a 2.33 ghz a1211 macbook pro for very cheap, and was very disappointing to find out that apple decided to not make drivers for the x1600 work on mountain lion, even thought the drivers work just great in windows 7 x64. Anyways, I am going to upgrade the hard drive, and the super drive doesnt work so I am replacing that too. But my main question is since I'm gonna have the laptop completely open anyways, If I were to buy a cheap a1226 2.4ghz logic board, which I believe works with mountain lion, would it fit into the case properly?

No, I don't believe so - the other components (power, RAM, etc) are also in different physical configurations, so there's no way to attach them to a new MB in an older tower.

  • Can you tell me if this logic board fits my macbook please?

Hi, I have a late 2006 A1181 white macbook 2.0ghz with a dead logic board and I saw this A1181 820-2279-A T8300 2.4ghz board for sale for a reasonable price, I think it is a late 2008 board but it looks the same thing as my old board, could this board possibly fit my late 2006 macbook?
    Thanks,
    Paul

I figured out the answer, it's...nope...

  • New logic board fitted & posible os failure

Sorry if this is long winded. My son (just finished Uni but lives 200mls away) has a 33 month old iMac G5, recently it would not always power (eg no electricity) up before finally failing.
It was taken to the local Apple Centre who said the logic (motherboard) had failed (due to a FireWire prob), a new one was flitted this week under 3yr warranty, however the shop said it will not boot up with the existing Hard Drive (but will with another) due to an OS failure (not covered under warranty, they said the Disk Utility is greyed out, (guessing they put it in a caddy). They said they will do several formats of the drive before reinstalling the OS on existing drive at a cost of £100!!!!!!! Now I have some questions as they need to know ASAP.
    1. Could the logicboard failing, affect the OS or via versa.
    2. Is the shop trying some rip off on cost of multiple reformatting saying it will take 2hrs to do?
    3. Would we be better off getting a new hard drive and installing OS ourselves, or get shop to put in new HD rather than multireformat old HD to save on time? And then get some data recovery specialist to get all his photo’s off (although shop says it can’t be done).
4.Is there a known issue with the board failing so early board?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ramasay-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards
I will answer to the best of my ability.
    1. The logic board failing could have caused something on or with the drive to fail. Simply ask for the old drive back, get an external FireWire case, and access the drive that way. It is possible that a utility like DiskWarrior might be able to recover most of your files.
    2. Actually it might take longer to format depending on the size of the drive.
    3. Depending on the model iMac and your technical abilities replacing the hard drive yourself might be the cheapest option. Make sure doing so will not void any warranty that you might have on the logic board replacement. It may be wise to have the shop install a new and larger hard drive and install the original system on that.
    4. Many things can cause a logic board to fail. To have it repaired under warranty or AppleCare is a beautiful thing. You may check here to see if you are covered by any of the repair extension programs for known covered issues with iMacs: iMac Programs

  • Early 2011 MacBook Pro logic board upgrade question

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 17'. Will a late 2011 logic board fit in the unibody of an early 2011? My logic board crashed and I'm looking to install a new one myself. I just need to see if I can upgrade mine at all. I want to purchase a logic board with a faster processor and hopefully not as prone to the GPU failure. Any recommendations?

You have the problem discussed in a number of discussions on this forum, most notably here -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0.
Basically the GPU in the machine was poorly soldered onto the logic board. If you take the machine into an Apple Store, they will recommend a logic board replacement. This, however, will not permanently fix the problem. The only permanent fix is to have the GPU 'reballed' - this will cost about $160 and some services offer up to a year's warranty on their work.
I had the problem back in January and, as I was under AppleCare, had my logic board replaced gratis. Once I'm left with no warranty, I will have the GPU reballed.
Take a look at some of the discussion and see some of the photos which are just like yours. The only remedy is the reball.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Old macbook RSS, will apple replace logic board and heat.

Will apple replace my logic board if I experience random shutdown? and if will replace it, it will be the board with duo core 2 on it? because I have the old macbook.

When I got mine replaced for RSS, I had to prove it. This was in early July, when it was a relatively new problem. I also convinced them to replace it rather than take it in for repair, but that's extremely unusual.
I've read posts on these message boards that since early September, some stores will just take it from your hands and start on the "new heatsink" paperwork as soon as you say "random shutdown." But that's not a guarantee that it will happen.
There as also a way to make RSS happen, but it didn't work for everybody. Search in the discussions for "yes > /dev/null". If that procedure works for you and shuts down your MacBook, then you can also do it in the store.

  • My MacBook Pro randomly freezing ever since new logic board?

My mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13" keeps ok randomly freezing ever since I've had a new logic board fitted after my macbook needed a new one (it was fixed through stormfront which is an official apple retailer). It will just freeze, won't be able to move the mouse or anything, and sometimes when I turn it off by holding down the power button, I can most of the time hear a click, but not everytime. Sometimes it freezes when starting up, sometimes it lasts a while before freezing, but recently it's been more like every 5-10 minutes. Can anyone help me as to why this is happening and what the problem may be? I'm running OS X Mavericks. Thankyou.
