Will a contract free us iPhone 4GS work in Europe?

Hi
Does anybody know if a US iPhone (contract free) will work in Europe (Denmark)?
Thanks

No, not unless the iPhone was sold as unlocked.
Contract free does not automatically equate to being unlocked.

Will the Maps on my iphone 5 work in Ireland?

It depends on how you purchased it. Did you ask for an unlocked phone at the Apple store? Did you get the iPhone at a substantial savings? Did you sign a  two-year contract with AT&T. If you did get an unlocked phone, then no, it is isn't locked. If you answered yes to the others, then it is locked to AT&T. AT&T will only unlock the phone if you have completed your contract with them.

Would be possible to buy a contract free unlocked iphone 5s from USA & use it overseas over a GSM network?

    Yes.
Only Apple sells officially unlocked iPhones in the US, & the T-Mobile labeled iPhone is officially unlocked if putchased from Apple.
But, your warranty/support will only be valid in the US, & the phone will most likely not support LTE anywhere other than North America.
Any issues, no authorized source, outside of the US, will touch the phone, or help you in anyway.

  • IPhone 6 (or Plus) contract-free and unlocked to work outside the USA?

I'm from Italy, and we have the highest prices in the whole world for the 6.
I want to buy one from the online US Apple Store, since I can't fly over just for a phone.
Yes I am aware I would then not have any warranty, since it's not international.
From what I've gathered the 3 carriers-with-contract options are obviously locked phones, respectively with those 3 carriers.
Even if you first activate them with a different SIM (different country&carrier), they wouldn't work and/or stay locked.
Also since they're made for those 3 carriers, they would obviously not support the 4G/LTE bands in my country.
The 4th option is this contract-free T-Mobile one, it's apparently unlocked, and works with other SIMs, from other countries too.
But there's still the network bands issue, and apparently even that T-Mobile one is not the proper model to work in my country.
At least for my country the model must be the following:
    A15486 (iPhone 6 GSM) and A1522 (iPhone 6 Plus)
Bottom line is, the carrier-locked ones are no good, for various reasons, but the unlocked one is no good either!
Does anyone anywhere know (or can gather US info for me) WHERE I can find those 2 models?
If they're on sale in the US at all? Which ones on the online store are those 2?
It would make sense that the unlocked one would also have the proper bands to work abroad, since it does work with foreign SIMs!
But various people say it is not the proper model, I wonder which one is, at this point.
They do exist, if the model numbers have been published!
    Anyone? :/

    Thanks for your response Peter
Why would you want to buy a leading edge iPhone and not be able to use 4G
I wouldn't, which is why I'm asking if anyone has 1st hand experience of trying it.
If Apple could produce an iPhone that covered 4G worldwide why would they actually have to make 2 different models
Beats me! The reason I'm curious is my friend has an iphone 5s purchased from an Apple Store in the US which works perfectly on 3G, 4G, etc. using a Tesco sim in the UK. Just wondering if the 6 (which I've read is more  LTE 'versatile' - although I could be mistaken) can do the same.
To reiterate, has anyone out there actually brought back a US iphone 6 and found that it works (or does not work) with 4G?
    Cheers!

  • Will my iPhone 5 work in Europe?

Will my iPhone five in Norway?

What model number does you iPhone have? Check Settings > General > About and look for model. If it says A1533 or A1457 or A1530 you iPhone is a GSM model which should work in Europe with european carriers but to be absolutley sure you should ask the carrier you want to use in Europe.

  • Contract-free locked Iphone 4s

Hi, everybody, simple question, the most current contract-free Iphone 4s in apple store is locked, is it locked just for CDMA carrier?  GSM carrier can use it? can i use it in other country?

Contract-free and unlocked are not the same. You have to specifically request an unlocked phone. There have been reports in the U.S. that the Apple Stores are already selling unlocked phones, however, I'm unaware of any official announcement. Your best bet would be to ask your Apple Store directly if they have unlocked phones available for sale.

  • Which model iphone 5 works in Europe ?

To avoid issues probably yes a GSM model
Yes, that would be the iPhone 5 model A1429 for the LTE.  Doesn't have to be unlocked.  It could be locked to your mobile company and only your mobile company.

  • Will the contract-free iphone 5 work in europe?

  • Will my factory unlocked non contract t-mobile iphone 6 work in India if I use another sim there?

I am planning to buy the new iPhone 6 with the t-mobile non contract version which is factory unlocked. I will occasionally travel to India, so I will the Indian sim in India. I wanted to know if my Indian sim will work in this phone or not?

Not sure if your question was answered, but I just used a T-Mobile iPhone 6 in France with no problem.  T-mobile does not appear to have a lock on the phones.  In case this is relevant, I first turned on and set up the iPhone 6 in the US with the T-Mobile sim in it, but never intentionally "activated" anything with T-Mobile.  I just used the iPhone on Wifi for a couple of weeks in the US before returning to France.
Other than the "unlock" issue, iPhone 6 should work in India with any sim-based network.

  • Will the apple care for iphone 5 work internationally?

    HI,
I am planning to buy the iphone5 from US and will be using it in India. However, i have some small doubts about the glitches and the probable damage might occur while using it. However, to prevent and also as a precautionary measure, suppose i get the apple care along with iphone 5, then will apple care provide its support in india?

    No.
Search these forums for "iPhone" and "India" you'll find out very quickly that this has already been addressed here many, many times.

  • Will a U.S. ipod FM transmitter work in Europe?

I want to buy a FM transmitter, but I'm moving to Germany in 4 months. I wasn't sure if the transmitter will work with the frequencies in Europe. Any help would be great making my decision.
    Thank you,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I am living in Germany and using a Griffin FM transmitter. It works, but you should consider the following:
    1. They are illegal here, by our laws regulating the use of radio frequencies. If you use it, you are starting, in legal terms, your own radio station, which is prohibited without permit. In fact, they are not even available for purchase here, so all you could do is obtain one abroad, i.e. the States, beforehand.
    2. Depending on the installation of the car's antenna, the ipod has to be placed very precisely within the car for a satisfactory (quality does not go above) reception.
    3. This one also goes with 2.: We do have a much higher number of radio stations, within border regions, this number is even higher. Where I live, I have to change the FM transmitters frequency every half hour or so, so that local stations do not interfere too badly (I gave up changing frequency every so often and do try 2. instead, easier while driving). E.g.: I get another public station every .2 step on the FM band in most regions I drive in, making it hard to find a good frequency for the transmitter. Since I am living inbetween Alsace and Switzerland, this maked it even worse., but even further into Germany, this problem becomes a hassle.
My personal conclusion: Here it makes more sense to get a radio with a cassette player and use an appropiate adapter, or one of the options offered by Dension or Harman Kardon. The other option I am starting to use is to simply burn CD for the road of iTunes... (I am not to thrilled about leaving my original CDs in the car).
Another reason I am burning CDs / considering the Dension solution: We do have a public street report service, which, if an appropriate station is selected, would pause the CD or a device connected via a controller, to play street reports. This function is only available if you connect the iPod via the Dension solution or internal/extenal CD-player: Using the cassette tape player would pause playback, but not the iPod itself, using the FM-transmitter solution, would only enable radios with multiple reception to keep up this function.
Hope this is of help, Feel free to contact me.

  • Does IPhone 6 T-Mobile Contract free mean its unlocked ?

Hi, I am thinking to buy an Iphone 6 plus. will IPhone 6 T-Mobile Contract free work in Turkey with any carriers?
iPhone: Wireless carrier support and features there is a column says Carrier offers unlocking.
    What does that mean ?

    Enes,
There are 2 ways of buying a T-Mobile iPhone 6 (Model A1549) in the US. The first one is directly from a T-Mobile shop where, like imobl stated, you must activate T-Mobile contract for 40 days after which you can end the contract. The second one is directly from Apple Retail Stores or Apple.com, where the phone comes with a T-Mobile SIM card which you may opt not using it. Essentially the iPhone 6 you would get in the second option will be contract free and unlocked and you would not have to wait 40 days to use your Turkish SIM card.
2G and 3G networks will perfectly work in Turkey. To the best of my knowledge as of now there is not any Turkish mobile operator utilizing 4G/LTE and it is not possible to know which 4G/LTE bands they would use in the future. We may assume Turkish operators would utilize one of the several bands used in Europe in the future, in which case your T-Mobile iPhone 6 purchased in the US most likely would not support 4G/LTE. I used and have been using my T-Mobile iPhone 5s (Model A1532) without any problem in the US and Turkey, respectively, and my T-Mobile iPhone 6 (Model A1549) is on its way to Turkey which I will receive from a relative who has recently visited the US for a week. (Other iPhone 6 Models marketed for other operators in the US such as AT&T, Verizon etc. may have wider band coverage which may work in Turkey's 4G/LTE when it becomes available. However you must review their contract terms and conditions as well as their capability of being unlocked very carefully before purchasing such a Model.)
All in all, I would say, considering that 1) it may take quite a while for Turkish operators to adopt 4G/LTE, 2) even after being adopted, it will likely be very premature, unstable and slow for which you may have to pay price premium for a while after its adoption, all of which had been the case in regards to 3G in Turkey; and 3) the price difference between iPhone 6 in the US and Turkey even Europe is huge, I would import iPhone 6 from the US. If 4G/LTE were ubiquitously available in Turkey (at least all over the major cities) and in a stable and fast fashion, then I might have given a second thought from importing it from Europe or even buying directly from Turkey, especially due to superior warranty coverage in Turkey.

  • IPhone 5S Contract-Free T-Mobile

Good afternon, want to now if contract-free 5S iPhone will work internationally, or is needed some steps as to work abroad? there is no sims free version

Make sure your friend only purchases from Apple, no where else. Only Apple sells officially unlocked iPhones in the US, & the T-Mobile labeled iPhone is officially unlocked if putchased from Apple.
But, your warranty/support will only be valid in the US, & the phone will not support LTE in India.
Any issues, no authorized source will touch the phone in India, or help you in anyway.
