My ex took my iPad and did a factory reset. Will she be able to use my apple account? Will my cellular plan still be active? We are currently living in Japan. My cellular plan is from SoftBank Japan.

Thanks Brian. It looks like the Apple Configurator app will reset settings and account info. I will look into third party apps as well. It needs to be as simple and quick as possible as we would be doing it daily to many ATVs.

Your discussion of the rationale for not being able to delete and account is perceptive and reasonable. But somehow, it seems to me that I ought to be able to expunge and account without the fear that my name will be re-used by someone else after I abandon it. It just feels wrong to not be able to terminate a relationship. More pragmatically, I would like to halt the repeated emails I get about someone trying to hack into my account and that I have to reset the password.
Even the phone company benches a number when someone cancels it. This helps prevent the new number holder from getting calls from people who mistakenly dial from their own phone logs. It seems that retiring the Apple address would be a nice, compassionate answer to the problem. Of course, this can be mis-used, but most egregious cases can be handled with technology. It's hard to believe the problem can't be solved with technology if one wanted to.

Sorry; I've been away for a day or two so could not respond. I think the last post from ashlie covers your question. I don't use an iPhone so I know only basics about it. As I see that reply, you log in with the ID you dont want, then log out. Then log in with the second ID you do want and log out. That should leave you with the second ID as your ID and by never using the other one again the old ID will in effect go away.

Hi Catherine,
You cannot delete an Apple account. Why do you want to delete it? Why not just stop using the one you don't want to use anymore? Just rememeber, purchases are forever tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with, so if you have Apps under the first ID, you probably want to go into that ID under Manage your Apple ID, and change the password to the same password you have on your current ID.
That way, when you are asked for a password to update apps going forward, it won't matter which ID is asking for the password, because it will be the same.

You can not delete an Apple account. You will have to use a different email address to setup a new account if they are in conflict with each other.

You don't have to take her off your account exactly: she needs to sign out from your account on her computers and devices. Then she can obtain an Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com and use it to sign into System Preferences or Settings>iCloud.
However, there are some issue about this. If she has been syncing her calendars and contacts to your account then the data will disappear from her devices, but remain on your account. Individual calendars can be exported as .ics files and reimported into her account, but if she has her contacts mixed up with yours she will have to enter them individually in the new account (or export yours, import them into hers, and delete the ones she doesn't want.
More intractable is the email issue. She cannot move an address from your account to hers, so if she has been using a alias on your account to have her own address she cannot transfer it. She will have to create a new email address.

If you have iCloud and/or iTunes accounts just sign out of them (however iTunes Store purchases cannot be transferred to a different account). You can create a new ID at http://appleid.apple.com - you will need a different non-Apple email address.
However if you've forgotten the password to the original account, go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Are you saying you have a previously owned iPhone that is still Activation Locked to the previous user?
if so, that user must release the iPhone. Until that happens, the iPhone will remain Activation Locked and useless to you.

Par for the course with so many companies - "Delete My Account" is virtually impossible to find. How can I delete my Apple account? I don't want yet another account that people can hack and buy stuff fraudulently. Thanks. I wholeheartedly agree. It seems rather pedestrian given that *supposedly* lesser sites/brands allow 'opting out gracefully' at any time - most with the ability to scrub everything clean and start again.
It's annoying enough that Apple fail to contribute much practical help here, but to obfuscate the fact it's also impossible to leave is rather unbecoming to say the least - just see the number of questions on account deletion etc.
