Will a g4 17" powerbook purchased new n 2006 accept a SATA less than 500 GB HDD

I have a 17"G4 powerbook lap top purchased new in 2006. The HDD just went on a walkabout. I want to knowifthe puter willl accept a SATA less than 500GB 7200 rpm HDD replacement. If so what bits and pieces would I need to effect such an upgrade?

This is what you are stuck with in the G4.
Hard Drive Interface
Ultra ATA/100 (ATA-6)
Links to this kind of drive. Or try google and Amazon (2.5 ATA hard drive). There isn't as much choice as these have not been OEM equiped for several years. I bought a spare for my G4 12" some time ago just in case I would need it. Finding a SCSI drive is even more challenging

The ringer switch on the side of my Iphone 4S has stopped working and the phone is now turning itself on and off silent without me touching any buttons. Will this be covered under warrenty? I have had the phone for less than a year. Although I have had the screen replaced, and wondered if this may void the warrenty?

Yes, the screen replacement (I am assuming by you our a 3rd party) voided your warranty.

  • New Magic Mouse uses batteries in less than a day

A couple of weeks ago I got my beautifull 27" mac will all (except 16 GB of ram) the options.
Overall it has been a unquestionable investment.
However, the magic mouse has had unacceptable battery performance.
The original batteries only lasted just over 2 weeks and I was forced to replace them just a couple of days ago.
Throughout their life the mouse presented mixed signals about battery percentage, after a few days of use it suddenly reported low battery (the day before it said 100%) and then after moving the batteries around it returned functionality.
I had to repeat this "fix" untill the batteries were totally dead.  earlier today I had to exchange the second pair of batteries, which had a supprisingly short battery-life.
After hardly using the mouse today because I was away filming I returned to find the mouse batteries dead eventhough they were brand new.
I have searched the forum and found similar problems of short battery life but less then a day of hardly any use is simply unnacceptable!!
Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing the problem?
If not then I'm going have no choice but to ask for a replacement.
    Thanks,
    Arek Sredzki

    Hello:
First, battery life is a direct function of usage and the type of batteries in use.
Throughout their life the mouse presented mixed signals about battery percentage, after a few days of use it suddenly reported low battery (the day before it said 100%) and then after moving the batteries around it returned functionality.
Inaccurate readings (in system preferences) is a known problem.  I have found that a Dashboard widget (mighty monitor) is reasonably accurate.
If usage is a problem, I suggest you consider rechargeables.  I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger.  Rechargeables do not last as long as Lithium batteries, but they are available on short notice and are environmentally friendly.

  • Why does my NEW ipod keep shutting off in less than 30 seconds of play time

Rcv'd ipod at Christmas; was setup in spanish when I first turned on & thought that was weird; had issues trying to download version 10 of itunes but after two days it finally went through successfully; charged for two days; used for first time today and it keeps shutting off after 30-90 seconds of playtime; is this a common issue or do I need to send back?

No, push the headphones firmly all the way in. The headphone jack on new nanos is very tight, make sure the plastic on the headset jack is flush with the body of the nano.

  • I got a new download of Elements started for less than a minute and discovered I set German instead

I set German instead of English in my download .. how do I change that?.. it's only about a minute into the download. I paused it and can't cancel or remove the German and start over?

Simply go to the original download page and pick the correct language then start the download.

Firewire drive will not mount on PowerBooks

    Hi All,
A friend of mine has a Titanium Powerbook G4 500's with 640mb ram and OS 10.2. She has purchased a Fantom Drive 120gb Firewire drive to back up her work. The drive will not mount on her machine. It will mount on my G5 running 10.3.9. I went to the Fantom Site, and all I could find was a link to Apple's site on Tiger.
She bought a set of Panther disks and wanted to back up all of her stuff before the upgrade.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    David

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that did'nt work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try. Hers should be the 10.2.8 Combo update. Others reading, download the Combo that applies to your system.
If that still did'nt get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!
    Good Luck!
    Cheers!

Anywysw I need to reach apple and have them make it so I can do it again. I had a similar problem with Playstation and when I called them they fixed it for me... even windows (which you can only have one serial per computer) made it easy because all I had to do was call them and they fixed it for me. Now I need APPLE to do the same and this is the only place I could see to actually say what is going on... I can't believe I have to do this with my iPhone... I wanted an mp3 player and a phone together and if I can't put new songs until September 20, 2012 I am going to freak out!

  • New 21.5 iMac (mid 2010)  cannot boot within less than one month!!! My God!

I bought a new 21.5 IMac on 17/9/2010, and tonight it was started when I left, In 10 mins when I came back, it turned down... I don`t know why, and then I press the start bottom, nothing happened... even without any hard driver sound.
I tried a lot, it doesn`t work at all, no start hard driver sound, I borrowed another power supply line which works nice from my friend and try on my imac, still doesn`t work, so I think it`s something serious wrong...
But could you image a new imac stop working with in less than one month???
Is any friends else get the same trouble?
    Anyone's help would be appreciated.
    Thx~~

I agree with elmac. Call Apple immediately. Don't wait. You have the 90 day service. You should also consider purchasing Apple Care if you can still do so. That will extend your service to 3 years.

Take it to Apple Store. You are covered under your 1 year warranty.

  • I have an iPad, four years old and still going strong.  I want to upgrade to a newer iOS 8 iPad.  If I do this, will I lose all my purchases on the old iPad?  If not, how do I transfer my purchases?

Hi,  If I buy a new iPad, iOS 8, will I lose all my purchases that are on my 4 year old iPad, iOS 5.5.1?  If not, how do I keep them?

Follow the instructions here or here; using the first set of instructions then requires syncing the second device with the iTunes library containing the content.

    Hi Carol 22,
Thanks for the post.  Depending upon the printer model, print drivers may be available from ASU.  If not, then go to hp.com and download Mt. Lion drivers to your iMac.  After you complete the hardware setup of the printer, if connecting wireless, then connect the printer to your network and then complete the installation and add the printer.  Then you can go back and remove your old printer.  I hope this helps...Good Luck!
I work for HP but my posts and replies are my own....Thank you!

  • I am reading about this conversion from an AOL username to a new Apple ID. Is this legitimate and will I lose access to purchases?

is this conversion from an AOL username to a new Apple ID legit? Will I lose access to purchases?

    Hi Kellyezvous,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
The conversion from AOL Username to Apple ID is legit, and you will not lose access to your iTunes Store purchases as a result of this change.
For more information, see this Apple Support page:
Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID - Apple Support
You must convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID to maintain access to the stores and to content you purchased previously.
Apple can't provide support for AOL Username accounts that aren't converted by March 31, 2015. The conversion process applies only to AOL Usernames. You don't need to convert an Apple ID that ends in @aol.com. Also, this transition doesn't affect any AOL services that you use with your AOL Username.
    Cheers,
    Jeremy

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.
