Will a protective cover or slick wrap protect the iphone 4 or 4s from drops?

I love the feeling of the iphone without the case. I love it's sleek form factor and I was thinking of getting a slick wrap carbon fiber protection thingy. I know it protects againest scratches and scuffs but will the iphone 4s 's glass break if it drops. and would the apple bumper be a good alternative along with this to stop from cracks? How much bulk does the apple bumper add and do you guys know what case is thin and will protect the case?

Unfortunately, no case can prevent cracks or damage to the device from a drop. I know there are some really expensive cases out there (Vapor Pro LE) and even with those, iPhones are still subject to damage if dropped. It really depends on what type of surface it is dropped on and the area of the phone that takes the blow.

I allow my special needs child to use the Ipad for specific apps that promote learning, however, I am afraid he may delete the books I have purchased with my Ibook app. Is there a way to protect the content in my Ibook app from being deleted?

So even if your iBooks happen to be deleted, there's no great harm done as you can always redownload them.

Will there be a CLEAR bumper available for the iPhone 4?

Anyone know about a clear iPhone 4 bumper available in the US? I saw one online from a tech site in Europe, but they only ship to Europe and Asia... I figured if there was a clear bumper, we could still enjoy the look of the steel portions of the iPhone 4, and cover any weak spots of the antennae that might exist... Any thoughts? Might there be one available next week on apple.com when we have our choice of a bumper or 3rd party vender???

its not a bumper buy i bought a clear silicone "case" by incase called the "rain". it does have a pretty cool design on the back and the sides are see thru. i put my wifes black iphone 4 in it and i can still see the back of the iphone clearly as well as the metal antenna sides. just an option if you cant find a clear bumper...plus it provides more protection than a bumper...

That's because you erased it.

No. But chances are whoever finds it will encounter Activation Lock and will not be able to use it anyway.

This would make it easier to track the phone in case stolen, And also have the time to remotely remove data in time, before it goes out of reach who knows where and what purpose?
I understand the phone would eventually switch off when no juice on battery, but I hope Apple engineers would code this feature as it would make it harder time for criminals.

Unless the four digit code is successfully guessed-at, the phone should be protected. Your friend should notify the carrier of the loss and hopefully get the plan transferred to a new iPhone.

How do you protect the WIDE SCREEN aspect ration from FC HD to QT

My images are wide screen on Final Cut Express HD but stretched tall with black bars on the left and right in QT. I export using Quicktime Conversion and I even click on the PRESERVE ASPECT RATIO during the conversion.

the trouble is your actual footage really is tall and thin! thats how the anamorphic flag works... it just tells FCP to display the video as widescreen (even though the raw image data is not).
try exporting using Quicktime Conversion , and in the options set the "Size" to something 16:9 ish (like 720x405)

Apple keeps makaking the phone more and more enterprise compatable but the simple feature of editing text and documents seems to elude them.. also, why does the phone only have a "master volume and we can't set sound levels per app or alarm.

Only if enough people REALLY want to compose or edit major docs on the phone rather than on something that allows them (sensibly) to work with the entire document in a controlled environment....

When will Apple do REAL soft "international" keyboards on the iPhone?

Being a Swedish local, remembering the keynote with Steve Jobs making a big issue of using "soft keyboards" for international characters on the iPhone made my brain over-heat with disappointment when I finally got my iPhone 3G and entered "Swedish" under the keyboard settings hoping that a Swedish keyboard layout would appear on the iPhone's soft keyboard.
There is no Swedish (and possibly no other "international") keyboard on the iPhone although the settings are there. All there is is a possibility to enter "international" characters through an awkward point-hold-and-drag mechanism! These characters are being used all the time not only on those rare occations you need to spell out "Motörhead" correctly. What if you needed to click-hold-and-drag everytime you wanted to type an "a"?
Apple have had a few designs through the years that never should have left the office (remember the hockey puck mouse?) and this US-ASCII keyboard layout for "international" keyboards is one of the more ignorant ones - even more so since the facilities for making a proper layout is there.
(Another bug is the Map application assuming that the USA is the correct country for contacts in the address book where no country has been entered, instead of - for instance - using the country used for the keyboard settings as default country where none is explicitly entered or the country where the iPhone was activated?

I recently signed a contract with vodafone Greece for 46 € plan (one of the more expensive from the countries that the iPhone is available) in order to get an iPhone 3G 16GB for 430 € (also one of the highest prices of iPhone with a contract) only to find out that there is no Greek Keyboard. This is unacceptable. I don't care for which other countries you have made keyboard or not (although you make sure to rub it in my face) but the essence of the iphone is that it is a tool to have with you all the time and if the is no ability to right in your native language it is rendered useless. The think that is more frustrating is that those who bought the iPhone from abroad (at 1/4 of the price) and jailbroke it have a Greek keyboard, made by Greek hackers/programmers.
Today comes, as i am told the 2.1 firmware update and i sincerely hope that ithas the Greek keyboard in it otherwise my (and many other i spoke with that bought the iPhone due to its features and not due to the Apple brand) loyalty to the Apple brand (which is already in bad shape due to the Greek retailer Rainbow) is going to be in jeopardy.

With the widespread news of a text/sms vulnerability going round Iphones that once viewed can infect/take control of your iphone (http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20090729121839257 plus many other recent news articles) I would like to know of what anti-virus/hacker prevention software there is available, either as an app, or apple download patch, that can properly protect the Iphone against this threat and others? The link I provided says there is a patch available via Itunes - please can anyone point me in the right direction?

Matt, if you plug the iPhone into the computer iTunes will tell you the OS version you have. If 3.0.1 you are good to go. If 3.0 it will tell you there is a new version and ask if you want to install it. Installing 3.0.1 will fix the SMS vulnerability.
