Will a ramdrive help with Premiere Pro 5.0?

I am upgrading my memory to a total of 32 GB and have read a little bit about using a ramdrive.  Will this help with video editing, and if so, how can I best utilize this extra memory?

I don't completely agree with what Harm said in his post, but some of his points are valid.  First it shouldn't really take any machine very long at all to create a RAM drive, and once created it should be easy to constantly re-use.  If it fills up with scratch files that you know you don't need, you can delete the files, or free the RAM drive and then re-create it.
That said, memory use is the key and only you know how much RAM your PPro instance is using during your normal editing.  If you know for sure that PPro never exceeds, say, 10G of RAM, you could easily create a 16G RAM drive and tell PPro to use it for scratch space.  But obviously that's 16G of RAM you can't use for anything else, so your system will begin paging if it needs more for some reason.  So before you do that, it's up to you to figure out A)how much RAM you need to do your normal edits, and B)how much space you need for scratch, on average.
I do think 32G is cutting it a bit close, per Harm.  I have 48 and I cut 16 of it off and make a scratch drive with it.  That works out well for me, but it may not for you.  You have to figure that one out yourself.
Make sense?

  • Help with Premiere Pro freezing after importing MPEG files

    I have
had some files sent for me to edit which are MPEG I believe.  They will import, but
as soon as I try and do anything with it, the whole thing freezes for several minutes!  It is unworkable.  I have tried waitin
g for the audio file to conform.  I have tried rendering the work area.  None of this helps.  If it does play, it lasts for a few seco
nds with sound playing at what appears to be twice the speed!  I normally wortk with DV files and these are fine.  By the way, the files I am struggling with do play in media player/real player etc.  I cant believe that premiere would not support this format.  Even Movie Maker just about manages it!  When it does freeze, it really freezes!  As in it wont even let me shut down without literally ripping out the power cable!!  Please help with simple English if possible, and sorry if I havent given you specifics that you would need.  But I honmestly dont know as these were just files sent to me on a memory stick. It was filming from a camcorder, but not sure what type.  The thumbnail says MPEG and the properties just says movie file.  It is about 2GB for an hour I think.  Thanks for any help.  My version is Premier Pro 1.5

Genuinely sorry that I dont know all the technical things that people need
to know.  I always try to find out when I am asked specifically and told how
to find them.  I did look at the link, but that just seemed to be a lot of
stuff about posting ettiquette, nothing about MPEGS.  Perhaps I got the link
wrong.  All a bit hard for me as I have a visual imp[airment.  Thanks again

I have a very old labtop that was running out of disk space.  I opened up the "Preview" folder of Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 and deleted all the preview files.  Now Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 will not open.  When it gets to "Loading Write_on.aex", I get this error message:
    Runtime Error!
    Program:...iles/Adobe/Adobe Premiere 2.0/Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
The problem is that Adobe no longer supports this program.  Please help as I cannot open/edit my files!

  • I Need Help With Premiere Pro CC File Issue

When I shoot video with my Canon XF100 camera for an extended period it creates new files every 5 minutes. In a continous shoot it keeps these separate files in a sub-folder until I hit the stop button. When I recommence shooting it creates a new sub folder and a new file.
Until recently Premiere Pro CC would read each file seperately in a sub folder but just recently it has started to combine them all. For example, if I was shooting continuously for 15 minutes I would get three 5 minutes filesand Premiere Pro CC would normally see 3 separate 5 minute files with their own file names but just recently it will see 3 files, each 15 minutes in lenghth, and each with the same content even though they have different file names.
Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, do you have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Milton

  • Need help with Premiere Pro 6 media/file management!

I've been an Avid editor for 20+ years and understand media management in that world. I've recently learned FCP 7 and understand media management in that world. But for the life of me I cannot wrap my head around how Premiere Pro 6 manages media. I am looking for a very straightforward explanation, chart, anything to make sense of this. Thanks in advance for helping an old dog learn new tricks!

  • Help with Premiere Pro

Hello, I started a project on a trial run of Premiere Pro CC, and then when it expired I purchased Premiere Pro as a CC, and month to month.
Thursday I went to open it and got a "this project contained a sequence that could not be opened...." error, and researched how to fix it. The helps didnt help, but then suddenly when I tried again it opened in a newer version of Premiere Pro.
So I figured it had to update, and now I'm updating again, because I got the same error message.
My question is: Should I uninstall Premiere Pro 2014? Its showing that my trial was for Premiere Pro 2014, and what I purchased was Premiere Pro (NOT 2014).
I just want to work on my project without these errors that keep popping up, and I'm not sure what I should do.
I'm a little confused, so if this didn't make sense, please ask me to clarify...

    The user solved their issue:
EDIT: I updated Premiere Pro and it works fine now. So i just want to know if I should un-install Premiere 2014
    Thanks,

  • What software for someone to help with Premiere Pro CS5

For the last 9 months I have been processing video using PP CS5 for a small church.  The church is now recording several programs and I would like some help in processing the videos that are created.  The church is small so probably can't afford a copy of the software that I have, so I will have to propose some options for them.  The two that come to my mind are:
    1) Adobe allows me to have two machines loaded with Master Collection CS5.  Since I am only using one, I could install on another person's computer.  I think this may be somewhere less than the spirit of the EULA.  Besides, I am not real anxious to do this anyway.
    2) Help them find a low cost alternative.  I think they may be able to do this for $100 to $200 for the software.  All they need to do is to trim the ends of the extra film, then add some title slides and save to Flash for the website and burn to DVD for archive.  As an option, they might be able to make a menu for the archive DVD.
Anybody know of any other options or suggested low end video editing software.  BTW, I took a quick look at Cyberlink PowerDirector and I could not find a way to save in the Flash format - other than creating a Youtube account and then sending the video directly to Youtube.

    Colin,
You are correct. PrE will handle AVCHD on an adequate computer. It will edit, allow Titles, PiP, many Effects (too many are Auto only, however), and can Export/Share to Flash, with one big caveat - there is NO Transparency available from PrE, like from PrPro, so no sprites, etc. Just plain FLV.
The files that PrE works from will work in PrPro and vice versa. However, the use of a PrPro PRPROJ (Project file) will NOT work in PrE. A PrE PREL (Project file) might Open in PrPro, but there are a bunch of things that can keep this from working correctly: Themes/Instant Movies, some New Blue FX Effects and Transitions, etc., that are specific to PrE. Otherwise, if PrE and PrPro are contemporary, say PrE 9 and PrPro CS5, and not of that "stuff" is used, it is likely that a PrE 9 PREL will Open in PrPro CS5 - I can do that with PrE 4 and PrPro 2.0/CS2, as they were contemporaries. I cannot Open later PrE PREL's in PrPro 2.0/CS2, and only get a failure.
For simple editing (especially if one is not intending on migrating between PrE & PrPro), PrE should fit the bill nicely. Much more is done "behind the scenes," and the GUI is more of a "Big-Button" solution, than PrPro, where one has much more control, though much needs to be done by hand. There are also some MAJOR layout differences between the two GUI's, but with some training, one can go with either pretty easily.
    Hope that this helps,

  • Help with Premiere Pro 2.0?

So this programs really frustrating me with the way things tend to just stop working. I've got a ten-minute documentary due in a few days for school and everything's breaking down on me. Yesterday i added two video tracks to the timeline. Usually with this progam i could line up/sychronize clips when a black line and triangle would appear, but this feature suddenly stopped working. I tried deleting the additional tracks, restarting adobe, and restarting the computer. It still won't work. I cant figure out how to get it back and without it lining up clips is time-consuming. Please help, thanks.

Making Projects easier, and more fun, is what we enjoy doing, almost as much as using to software to edit.
    Good luck, and happy editing,
    Hunt
PS - there are times, when Snap gets in the way, and you will want to turn it off. When doing any sync corrections, is a great time to hit S to toggle it OFF. Just remember to hit S again, to turn it back ON.

  • Help with Premiere Pro CS3

I am having problems with getting the audio track to go into the audio layer that I would like for it to go in.  I am trying to get the audio track to go into layer 1; however, it keeps dropping  into audio layer 3. Please tell me what I can do to get audio and video to place properly in the layers that I want them to go into.

Probably the easiest way to assure that your Audio goes where you want it (so long as it is an appropriate Audio Track, per the answer above), is to Lock your existing Audio Track (mobile device's Audio Track), and then drag your SB Audio Clip below the Master Track. A new, appropriate Audio Track will be created for you. Note: Locking is not required, but does protect that Audio Track from a "dragging accident."
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS when done, you can go to Sequence and Delete Unused, checking Audio Tracks to "tidy" things up a bit. You can also Rename each Audio Track (and Video Track) to suit your needs. You are not locked into Audio 1, etc.

Will  card nVidia geforce GTx 760 work with premiere pro?

Yes, the GTX 760 will work nicely with Premiere on the PC. What version? With CS6, you may need to delete the "cuda_supported_cards.txt" file from the Adobe folder.

  • Is there any way to create a file compatible with Premiere Pro

Is there any way to create a file in Premiere elements that is compatible with Premiere Pro and that can be used in Premiere Pro

    Consternation
The important information that I do not see mentioned nor offered by you.
1.What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system it is running? What version of Premiere Pro do you want to use?
The Premiere Pro Import Supported Formats seem to indicate that it will accept the Premiere Elements project.prel (project file) on Windows Only.
Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Supported file formats
This may or may not be possible depending on damaged projects or outdated elements.
    2. If you want to export your Premiere Elements Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive and subsequently import that into your Premiere Pro version, that "should" work. You would go to the Premiere Elements Publish+Share/Computer/ and make a selection based on what the Premiere Pro Import Supported file formats are and what you need. I can help you with that. But, details first.
But, just a "beware"...when you get to Premiere Elements 11 or 12 (if that is the version involved) Publish+Share/Computer/ there are several categories, but all you see is Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. The rest of the list that includes AVI and QuickTime which both need to be scrolled to all of the time to see them, not just sometimes, with the thin scroll bar to the right of the list of choices. You can export files
with AVI file extension, under Publish+Share/Computer/AVI
with MOV file extension, under Publish + Share/Computer/QuickTime
And, if you do not have QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements, you are not going to have presets for the QuickTime export.
Remember, there is more to an export than just its file extension. Know your other export properties as well.
In many cases, you can customize the export settings to suit your requirements.
Problems will exist if you are trying to go from Premiere Elements Windows to Premiere Pro Mac or vice versa.
I would be glad for the opportunity to help you with this issue, but details are needed.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Audition CS5.5 with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello everybody.
I am considering downgrading from Master Collection CS5 to Adobe Production Premium CS5.5
But quite frankly it's just because of one application.
Though, i am in doubt if i'll actually going to make the downgrade.
And as you could and might have guessed it is the Adobe Audition CS5.5 Application.
Though really the whole pack has a GREAT improvement overall, I just actaully want to mix SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro and sound editing application (Audition).
Which leads me to my next question.
Now with Adobe Soundbooth CS5 closed off (by April 24th), and an UPGRADE for Soundbooth CS5 users to Audition CS5. Does this mean that Audition CS5.5 works SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro CS5?
Is there a dynamic link between the two applications? (Audition CS5.5 and Premiere Pro CS5)
AM i able to send mixes between the two? I really don't want to loose any Audio data, such as 5.1 channel mapping, volume mixing, denoising, general mixing etc.
All i really need is some good quality sound editing which works seamless, as After Effects and Premiere Pro has proved to me can be done.
Just want to know if it is possible. Or if I REALLY have to upgrade in order to get the sweet apples.
    Best
    Lucas

    Hi _durin_
    Thanks for your quick response.
But I didn't quite understand your answer.
I have seen Jason Levine's video earlier, as CS5.5 was announced and it looks natively good. I understand the mixdown attributes etc.
Please correct me if im wrong HOWEVER this workflow and settings applies still to ONLY the new CS5.5 Version?
Im currently using Master Collection CS5.
Instead of getting either the Production Premium, or Master Collection I am strongly considering updating Soundbooth CS5 to Audition CS5.5 (the option is there as i can tell by SoundBooth's website, though i get a weird error message when I click the update link...)
However I need to know, IF Audition CS5.5 works well with the PREVIOUS version (that'll be CS5 not 5.5), of Premiere Pro.
Are there an option to render the reference video, and generate a interchange session from WITHIN Premiere Pro CS5 to Audition CS5.5?
Im sorry if I either sound harsh or "willingly" misunderstanding. But I have only documentation on how the integration works between the current versions (meaning 5.5).
Im as you can guess VERY confused over the move from Adobe to make a .5 version instead of a full-fledged CS6 solution. It causes a stir, cause I then don't know much of the integration between the previous applications.
I have seen as an example that Photoshop CS5 have gotten the update to receive paintings/files made with their new touch API. So I wonder whether integrational features will be a part of the CS5 pack since, as i've mentioned, an application like Soundbooth gets replaced with Audition, with an upgrade option for the Soundbooth owners.
Im confused and hope you can help me clear my mind up, whether to upgrade or not. I will download the trial eventually, but not onto my current CS5 system since I already use this in my daily video work and want to AVOID confusion.
    Best
    Lucas
