Will a standard G5 run on its side

I have an old G5 and not much space to in my home office. I run a mac pro too. I was hoping to store the old G5 under the desk in a horizontal position. the G5 is not water cooled. It was my office computer and I would like to keep the content separate from my home stuff. Will running the computer on its side have any adverse effects I intend to screen share and am unlikely to use its CD drive again.

I ran Mac Pro on its side for two years (no hum that way for some reason) but I would be worried about air flow and ventilation if the desk blocks or limits air - especially out the back, or if it will be close to or against a wall.
Pioneer SuperDrive had a 'lip' that held DVD/CDs in place but they did worry me, louder, and worry about positioning the read head.
I use KVM from Gefen which has worked very well, just wish I could afford to run two dual DVIs or 3 computers. But never fails to detect and no delay, so I can run system A and B easily enough. Never used screen sharing, I prefer hardware.

Can a G5 run on its side, can it be used horizontally?

I have a fully functional dual 2 ghz G5 tower and was wondering if it can function on its side? Or, does it have to be vertical?

Not a G5 but Mac Pro, only issue is whether the optical drive is designed (with a lip) to hold media in place. Otherwise, shouldn't matter or be different. I've had mine this way for nearly 3 yrs, sometimes upright as well but easier to get at parts.
Just my take on this and it has been asked a couple times, but can't recall seeing it mentioned in G5 forum.

Will a standard IMac run Football Manager?

im looking into buying an IMac, & I really want it to play Football Manager 2015 with good quality so I can watch in 3D & have around 10 leagues added in, so could someone please tell me if a standard IMac would be able to run it.
My friend has an IMac (2008 I think) & that seems to run it fine but other people have said a 2011 couldn't run it, & that's why I'm getting confused.
Any any help or advice would be much appreciated.

It can run on mac as well on the box in the top right hand corner it says PC, Mac & Linux, you don't have to play it through steam if u buy the Disc

I currently have my Mini tilted on its side and it is amazing how much space i can save like this without it being in front of the screen and then taking up s[ace next to it, but is this safe?

Contract item customer fields not getting saved from ITS side??

Hi there,
I have had to add "account assignment" details to a contract item (3 fields: account assignment, G/L account and cost center)...
All is going fine....in fact the 3 fields have been added on the contract item level in function group BBP_CTR_UI_ITS screen 4100. I followed the instructions in SAP note number 458591 "user defined fields: preparation and use"...
The 3 fields I added where "generated" down to SAP table level and now appear in table BBP_PDIGP...
Also when I create a contract from transaction BBP_CTR_MAIN and fill my 3 new fields in on the item level all works fine when I release the contract...the contract item gets created and the 3 new fields appear nicely in table BBP_PDIGP....so from the GUI side all is PERFECT...
I have worked on the ITS side of things quite a bit but now I clearly don't understand something...
I go to "internet service" BBP_CTR_MAIN - template SAPLBBP_CTR_UI_ITS 4100.....I have added my code and my 3 fields display perfectly on the web page....for each contract item.....
As I said I can make the contract with the 3 new fields filled perfectly via the GUI (transaction BBP_CTR_MAIN)....and if I VIEW that contract on the web it also displays perfect with the 3 filled in fields....
If I COPY that contract.....and save the new one, the 3 fields are still fine, all saved.
NOW COMES THE PROBLEM:-)
If I create a new contract from the web, fill in my 3 fields on the contract item level THE 3 FIELD VALUES SEEM TO NOT GET POSTED BACK AND SAVED IN THE SRM DATABASE...
I have tried everything from using FIELD-GET, FIELD-SET...the note I mentioned above mentions some BADI's that I could possibly use:
BBP_CUF_BADI_2 (modify screen methods etc)
BBP_DOC_SAVE_BADI
All I really want to try understand is how interaction between the user clicking on the web page and the SAP GUI screen flow is really happening.....I mean I see in function group BBP_CTR_UI_ITS there are a number of function modules with ITS in them, are those function modules just called when the user is clicking on the web (via ITS etc) - I would assume so...
Bottomline is I need what is happening in the SAP GUI to happen on the web as well.....it is almost there, I just need a push in the right direction so that I can grab the fields from the web page, in the most standard way possible.

Can you place a g5 on its side to use?

i would like my daughter to use this G5 but it is too big for her desk unless we lie it on its side. Will this damage it or cause it not to work properly.

In the early days of hard drives, manufacturers stated they could be used in either a horizontal or vertical platter orientation. However, they recommended that you not change the orientation of the drive once in the "run in." Their concern was that, in a vertical position, the platter would wear its bearings more on one side. Not a problem if the drive stayed vertical but was if you decided to run it horizontally later.
I've not see this recommnedation in a long time so maybe drive makers have improved the bearings, but the Old Computer Fuddy-Duddy part of my psyche still has me worried about changing orientation after a drive has run in one position for a long time.

Running Mainstage along side Mackie desk into firepod for 5 piece live band

I have been studying the Macprovideos.com on mainstage and I'm half way through. My query is what would be the best way to set up my gear to utilise mainstage with my current pa and MacBook Pro 2.4 GHZ Intel Core i5 4GB Memory for my live covers band. I'm a mac fan and I've recently upgraded to logic studio and hoping to utilise mainstage for live performances. We run our own sound as many small bands do, but because I'm the gear tech/geek in the band I'm always striving to improve our sound for the listener & clients.
Band (playing R&b old and new skool) Top 40 music
Myself on Guitars, vocs, Keys (analog gear hope to use mainstage) + Pa
1x Bass player, vocs
1x Live Drums, Vocs
1x Keys
1x front Male singer
My goal Is to run run mainstage along side my mackie 1604 VLZ Pro mixer into Mackie active srm 450,s 1x mackie 15" Sub. I have a Pesonus Firewire Firepod. 8 xlr ins, 8 outs.
I also would like to use Mainstage for its guitars sending a Bus feed from mainstage out to my ZT Lunchbox guitar Amp onstage. Also I would like to Have access to some Keys, Rhodes, organ clav for second keys to help out our keyboardist especially with some of the hiphop music where there isnt any guitars, so I will run a midi keyboard via usb
Am I asking to much of my MBP & Mainstage to run the whole band into my firepod?
what would be the best way to run my band with this set up? IF it is going to be to CPU Taxing then is there a way for me to run everything through the mackie and using mainstage for effects processing utlising the reverbs, compressors, limitors etc.

Well, you got some good equipment. Now, how best to use it? I would play to the strengths of each piece, and avoid the weaknesses.
Mackie PA - great for vocal pre's and routing, zero latency, real faders and stuff
MainStage - great for digital effects and virtual instruments, but you always have some latency
Firepod - lotsa pre's and flexible routing
Too bad you don't have a MOTU Ultralite, which has hardware compression, reverb limiting, and eq on all its ins and outs, so that saves some CPU power. But you don't, so...
I personally don't run my vocals through MainStage, other than running a signal in to do delay/echo (at 100% wet). I don't like ANY latency on vocals. So you could try that method, with your real-time dry signal through the PA, a vocal send bus to MainStage for delay (or even reverb, 100% wet). That saves some CPU.
Bass player, why not 100% through amps/PA? Hard to beat.
Keyboards, sure do 'em virtual in MainStage. Lotsa great options. Unless of course, you have real cool keyboards that sound good.
Guitars, if the latency doesn't bother you, use MainStage for amp sims and stompboxes if the sound suits you. Run it to your Lunchbox if you wanna. You'll need midi-based foot controller, though.
You could run outs from MainStage/Firepod into your Mackie if you wanted to mix all from one spot, which would be good, I think.
So, you would sorta end up with Mackie as your main vocal thing, and your mixer and PA; MainStage as an effect processor and for virtual instruments. and FirePod as a in/out interface between the two.

Short-term storage of MBP on its side

Hi,
I have a late 2007 model MacBook Pro 15" that I am considering leaving in my locker at school overnight on a regular basis. To do this, I must store the computer (in a protective case) on its side, otherwise it will not fit. Does that harm it in any way? Would it make a difference whether the computer was shut down or in sleep mode?

Absolutly not!
Treat the MBP as a pizza and always keep it parallel to the ground.! Even tipping it a few degrees, less than a 1/4 inch, can cause most of the problems you read about here! I have leveled all me desks as I found a few off them were just off enough to cause serious issues! Mac sells levels for just this purpose.

There should be NO problem storing the MBP in any position. Myself I turn off the MBP when traveling but will leave it on with certain apps. active to save juice if I think I'll need them.
Now I don't know about running it in different positions. Some folks I know use it as a HD and plug keyboard and display and close the MBP. For some reason I think I'd try to stick to the pizza scenario and keep it level in this case but I've not heard anything about this.
Sorry again for the joke.... I guess I'm not that sorry or I wouldn't post it huh?

Mac OS 10.5 / I deleted the " Private" folder ... and emptied the trash. So the folder and its contents no longer exists on my computer at all !!! I do have the OS dvd that i purchased years ago... But my computer will not start from it on its own. My

My question is what is the open source or terminal language code used to tell my mac to look in the DVD rom drive for startup info? I know that im not the only person in this world who has deleted the "PRIVATE" folder and emptied the trash so it no longer exists on their machine...
That said theres gotta be a common fix for a Power PC G4 that has the OS X dvd in the rom drive but wont look to it to reinstall the vital contents of the PRIVATE folder.
Once again there is not a copy of this file or its contents in the recycle bin...
Also rebooting the machine , pressing and holding the letter C does not prompt the machine to look to the dvd rom drive.
I was reinstalling pro tools and figured I would make some room by cleaning my computers HD...
Lol It was a bad choice to delete this file ...

Okay sorry it took forever to respond... But for a while there I gave up on this computer!!!!
Money's been tight lately , so taking it in to a professional was not yet an option... though I did consider it eventhough.
Anyway long story short im glad I didnt spend any money because I already had all the tools necessary to fix this issue but was going about it in the wrong way. Okay so here is my scenario and the breakdown... Though this may not fix the issue for everyone :( which *****... But I know we all will have different circumstances.
Anyway here we go...
Okay so first things first.... Years ago I purchased the OS 10.5.1 disk ... So that has always been in my possession!!!!
I realize that some may not have a disk to reflash your OS to your hard drive... but if you do your in luck.
2ndly ... I had an external harddrive with all of my itunes downloaded music so it was more than okay with me to delete my primary HD because all the important stuff could either be copied over or repathed to be located.
-------If you dont want to read through the whole story the fix is summed up in the bottom section-------
Okay so now the SOLUTION!!!!
By trial and error , and pure boredom I opened up my computer to clean the inside...
AND
"Disconnected the primary HD"
and just because ....... REBOOTED my computer. Just to see what it would do.
Upon restart and though it looked like it would repeat its usual cycle...
About 1 minute in to that process my computer froze for about 2 seconds and flashed to the OS installation screen.
Mind you I havent seen this screen yet... Probably hasnt been since I installed the OS years ago.
After a bit of trial and error...
I decided to tell my computer to startup from the OS 10.5 disk located in my dvd rom drive and restarted once again...
this setting is under
Utilities / startup disk
After a little more trial and error ... I realized that I could reconnect the primary HD , restart the machine and return to the OS installation menu.
So upon this discovery
I went to the Disk Utility located under Utilities
Highlighted my primary HD located in the left hand column
Once highlighted ...
In the heading section on the right I selected the option
Erase
in which I erased My current OS on my primary HD ...
I used the first option in the list under security... Because it seemed like the least invasive and would take the least amount of time to see if this process would actually work.
I FORGOT to add something...
Another reason why I deleted my primary HD!!!!!
I forgot to say that it WOULD NOT!!!!! Show up in the STARTUP list as an option...Even After multiple reboots....
But like clockwork... Once I deleted its name IT SHOWED UP as an option!!!!
So back to the next step...
I returned to the STARTUP option under utilities ... And was then able to see MY primary HD now as a startup option...
But ofcourse it had no name because it we previously erased it.
So when Clicking my newly erased HD ... I was almost immediately prompted to REINSTALL the OS ...
Which said it would take about 57 minutes ... But I believe was alot less...
My issue was resolved ... My computer then stated the install was SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!! :))))))))))) lol ;)
It was like I was setting up for the first time ;) asking for my registration info...
The dilemma of deleting the private folder and emptying the trash is finally over resolved. Done ... and no extra money spent!!!!!!!!!
Its really crazy that the information for such a simple thing is not readily available. Especially being such a simple fix.
I know im not the only person who's had this issue , because i've seen numerous posts with similar wording.
I also know I wont be the last person to have this issue... So I hope this synopsis makes sense.
-------One more time the fix------
*Insert your OS dvd into your dvd rom drive.
*Unplug your primary HD or corrupted startup disk
*Reboot your machine...
Upon restart your primary HD will not be recognized...
* you will then be prompted to select your language.
Once selected
*Click Utilities/startup... Highlight the the selection that refers to the OS dvd located in the dvd rom drive.
* Click restart...
!!!!!!!!!!Be sure to reconnect your Primary HD Before your computer restarts and you hear the chime!!!!!!!!
If you do not replug your HD before the chime it will not be recognized.
In that case restart again.
Upon restart once again
*Choose your language...
*Click Utilities / disk utility
In the left column select and
*Highlight your HD ...
Then towards the top portion / center of the page
*Click the heading Erase
Then on the page toward the bottom
*Click security options
This will then provide erase options.
I USED THE FIRST OPTION
"Dont erase data"...
*click OK
* click erase...
Once erased which should take a few seconds
*Cancel the disk utility...
* Click Utilities / startup
And your newly erased HD should now appear in the list.
* Select your drive from the list by highlighting
It should no longer have a name.
*Once selected, you will then be prompted to restart and install the OS to your newly erased HD...
Thats it!!!!
Once everything reinstalls re-add your personal info or registration info and you are up and running.

CS6 says "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect..."?

CS6 won't open--whenever I try to open a CS6 application, a windows pops up and says "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." This occurs for every single CS6 program (PS, Flash, etc.) except Illustrator. Illustrator is the only one that will open.
I have Windows 8. I've had CS6 for about half a year and this is the first time this has happened.

Is any significant harm likely to come to my time capsule/data if I store the unit on its side?
I have a (metal) cabinet into which the time capsule will fit very nicely, if placed on its side, with the rubber base against the rear of the cabinet.

The more likely issue you will be confronted with will be Wi-Fi signal degradation because of the metal cabinet.

Can't get mysql admin tool runs on its own schedule for backup

I'm trying to schedule a daily backup of all of my databases. It looks as if I have everything configured correctly within MySQL Admin tool, however the backup job never runs. The backup WILL execute if I click the "Execute Backup Now" button. I can't seem to get it to run on its own.
i have Mac OS X 10.4 and mysql 5.0.45
Any suggestions?

Yes it is fine and may be better since it may disapate heat better. You can purchase commercial stands that place them on their side.

I have installed mac keeper and it has initially found numerous issues? with my Mac. What can I do with the existing software to check that my mac is running at its optimum and get rid of these issues.

By uninstalling mackeeper. That software is garbage and will cause more problems then good. Get rid of it immediately.
