Will a USB Keyboard let me enter the BIOS?

Hi guys,
I am looking to buy a wireless keyboard/mouse from Microsoft and I have a couple questions for you guys:
I have the option to use PS/2 connections for both the mouse and the keyboard OR just one USB connection for both. Since I want the mouse to use a USB connection for higher refresh rates, I have to use the USB connection for the keyboard as well.
1. If i have a USB keyboard, will I be able to enter the BIOS? I am thinking NO because USB devices are loaded when windows xp loads.
2. Does anybody know if it really makes a difference to use USB vs. PS/2 for the mouse? (for gaming purposes)
Thanks again.

FWIW I have a CoolerMaster alloy USB keyboard and while it works fine with XP Pro (SP1a), BIOS does not detect it so I have to keep a PS/2 keyboard around for when I need to play with the BIOS.
I've tried pluging it in to the front ports, back ports and via the self powered hub on my display with no success. Maybe a later BIOS (I use 1.9) for the 865PE Neo2-FIS2R will fix things.
Unfortunately, CoolerMaster do not supply a USB-PS/2 adapter unlike every other keyboard manufacturer I've seen and these are very difficult to find as separately purchasable items. So I am stuck with keeping the spare PS/2 keyboard around.
Anyone know if the same problem exists on other motherboards, especially with the AMI BIOS, or is this just an MSI issue?
Update
Just tried installing SUSE 9 Linix on this machine and it hangs when probing USB/loading the uhci-hcd module. I now suspect the 82801 EB USB controller, the MSI implementation or both are faulty in some way but I'll wait for SUSE's reply on this problem.
With all the problems USB seems to cause I don't think the world is quite ready for legacy free PC's yet
Update 040120
Turns out the problem with Linux was because I had "Legacy USB" enabled in BIOS, no problems at all after disabling it.

I did not do my research before changing my Apple ID from an outdated email address to a current one. I just changed and verified and though I was all set. WRONG! Now I cannot sign in to iCloud because it will not let me enter the new Apple ID. I read the 10/30/13 randers4 post to just change your Apple ID back then sign in and change it to the new email address again and then you can sign in, but I cannot change back to the prior email address Apple ID because that is no longer an active email account (or at least not mine). Any thoughts on how to get signed into iCloud when it does not allow me to type in the new Apple ID and the old Apple ID no longer exists.
I see that many people have asked, but no one has come up with a solution that I found.
    Thanks for any help!

This did not work for me.  My old email account for iCloud still pops up on my screen every time I open my macbook.  I've deleted it, reset it, every thing I can think of and it still shows up.  I think six months of this is more than enough time to wait.

  • Satellite P750 Keypad won't let me enter the 1 or 6 key

    Hi Folks,
    Hope someone can help me.
My keypad has developed a problem and will not let me enter the 1 or 6 key.
All the other ones are working fine. This error seemed random at first, but now seems to be like that all the time. I have done a system restore, but that did not help. I am running Windows 7.
Any suggestions, help will be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Rob
    It is a PSAY3A-02J001 Satellite P750

I guess your keyboard is faulty. This would explain the problem. Just for test purposes, connect an external USB keyboard and check how it acts.
If everything would work properly, the keyboard controller is OK and it must be definitely an internal keyboard problem.
In such case only keyboard replacement would help you.
In case the warranty is valid, I would recommend contacting an Toshiba ASP sine this would be fixed free of charge.
    Good luck dude.

  • Will any USB keyboard work w/GarageBand?

I have never used garageband and would like to buy a keyboard for my son to use with a Leopard mac. Will any USB keyboard work? Is it necessary to install drivers? Thanks.

Yes you should be good to go with any connection. The new Mac already has your drivers installed - simple!

You (or your kids) inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
Any tips on how to stop it from happening?
Yes. To learn how to avoid it in the future read How to install adware.
If you require them, Apple's removal instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

  • Trying to register my copy of Elements 13, the program won't let me enter the code.

I purchased a copy of Elements 13 from amazon.ca and, when I try to activate the program, I get to the place where I'm to enter the code but the page won't let me enter the code.
The code includes letters and numbers but the page only allows me to enter the numbers.
    What do I do?

I dug all over the surfaces I could find and nothing... finally, I decided to cut the tapes at the bottom of the retail box... just a 'what the heck... this is stupid' kind of move and................. there it was on the bottom/hold the discs in place rectangle thing...
Whoever thought of something like that?

a clearcmoscan be usefull or not?
Yes, I would suggest to clear CMOS with main A/C power cord removed from PSU.  >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
    See if that changes anything.

  • Impossible to find the key to enter the bios on the pc B50-70

hello I do not find the key to enter the bios on the pc I have B50-70 essyé F1, F2 and Del but it does not work

Good day and welcome to the community.
Have a look at page 10 of: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/b40_b50_ug_en.pdf
Do you see item #3 (Novo button) on the right-hand side of your laptop? If you push it briefly while the laptop is fully powered off, it should boot to a small menu that has entering BIOS as one of the choices.
Please let us know if this helps.
    Regards.

  • Z87-G43, can't enter the BIOS Setup, system is not running

    Hi everyone,
I was working with my pc for about 2 months. Since the very first day i had few problems with mobo but now i can't even run the system and enter the bios. First of all, i had problem with running the system after disabled the MSI logo. I had to enebled it again, because it was the only way to turn on PC (bios stopped at the screen with black screen and a2 code) but it was about 1 month ago. I also remember that from the very beginning option "Hardware Monitor" wasn't working, i mean bios was freezing too and i had to restart PC. Furthermore i have noticed that after choosing language to Polish, few more options in "Settings" appeared, but after switching language back to english they were gone. Unfortunately i can't say now, which one it was because now i got the biggest problem...
BIOS is not running at all. I mean, it all stops with A2 code in right bottom corner of the screen. I can't even enter the bios setup. It shows "Setup is preparing to start" or something like that, but it doesn't run... Can't do nothing atm. BIOS version was the latest - 1.6 . It all started to happening when i had entered to option in bios with disabling or enabling MSI logo, i didn't choose nothing, it freezed, i have resterted PC, and now i nothing is running...  Btw sometimes, i coudn't run the system and bios was freezeing also, if my TL-WN722N wasn't connected to USB port in front case's panel. But now, whenever Tp-LINK is connected or not, it's not running...

A2 is IDE detect <--- that is a HDD/SSD problem or its cable (try a different one)
if the above doesn't work try to foll0w >>Clear CMOS Guide<< do that to reset the BIOS to defaults with power cord removed from your PSU!
after performing the above steps make sure you enter BIOS and reset the SATA mode (AHCI/IDE/RAID to what you installed your os at) and boot order to your SSD first!
Ye that's the reason, I have a new brand 1tb sata 3 where I installed the windows, but the old 320gb sata 2 is causing the same error, so I have to remove the cables from the sata 2 hdd, than the pc boots ok. I shutdown & reatach the old drive & evrething works untill the PC enters stand by again.

  • Re: Portege - Which key I need to enter the BIOS?

Which key do I use enter the BIOS? F12 is to choose which boot drive but I can't get into BIOS settings.
    Thanks

    Hi
It would be very useful if you also post what notebook model you have ;)
Anyway, if you can go into boot menu pressing F12 you should be able to access BIOS if you press *F2*.
    Check this!
