Will a WRE54G work on a WRTP54G router(vonage phone built in)

I have been trying and trying to get it to work but im about to give up.My buddy gave me the Range extender but im not sure if it will work with this router. Thanks for any info.

If anyone is using a WRTP54G VoiP router and wishes to add a WRE54Gv2 it is important to change the ip address of the WRE54G, which by default is set at 192.168.1.240.  An earlier post stated it was not possible to setup a version 2 WRE54G and a WRTP54G VoiP router, which is incorrect.  Below is an example of what worked in my network using the combination of the WRTP54G and the WRE54G v.2.  Also to help lessen the complication, I would recommend disabling any wireless security within your router until the setup of the range extender is completed.
During the setup of the WRE54G, the only way I was able to add the WRE54G v.2 into my network was via the ethernet port using the setup wizard.  The problem with adding the WRE54G into the network of a WRTP54G router is the router assigns ip addresses in the range of 192.186.15.* and is not able to assign the address 192.168.1.240 which the range extender, by default uses.  If you setup the range
extender utilizing the default ip address, 192.168.1.240, you will be unable to access the WRE54G either via a wired or wireless connection as the ip address isn't valid since it is outside of the range of what the router can assign.
Solution to the problem.  When setting up the range extender, WRE54g, take a look at the ip range assigned by your router.  For instance I have the ip range of my router set to 192.168.15.200 - 209. Select an ip address that is in the range of what your router will assign.  I would recommend selecting an address at the end of the
range, in my example I selected 192.168.15.209.  Whatever you choose, write it down and keep it in a safe place.  Now utilizing the setup wizard for the range extender, during the setup process, follow the setup through and when it asks for
confirmation of the default ip address, DO NOT accept it.  This is time to change from the default ip address of 192.168.1.240 to the ip address that you have written down, the one you selected which is in the range of your router.  Input the new ip address, in my example 192.168.15.209, and complete the setup. Everything should finish up and you should now disconnect the ethernet cable from your range extender.  After doing a power cycle, confirm that the range extender is setup in your network by opening the extender using the ip address that you wrote down, and assigned to it. In this example, I used http://192.168.15.209 If you can access the extender via the newly assigned ip address, which is in range of your router, your range extender is operating in your network.
At this point, if you are going to enable some form of wireless security you will be able to setup the WEP keys in your router and range extender simultaneously.
Good luck.

    Hi,
Does anybody know if the WRE54G will work with the WRT610N router?
    Thanks

or you may just connect an N access point (like the WAP610N) to the main router ro expand the wireless coverage.

  • Using a BEFSR41v3 with a WRT110 and will a WRE54G work with the WRT110

I want to use the BEFSR41 as my main router and use the WRT110 as an access point (wired from the BEFSR41) on the 2nd  floor of my house. Will this work?  Will I lose speed??
Is the WRE54G compatible (and will it work) with the WRT110?

If you want to use WRT110 with BEFSR41 then, you need to hardwired the wireless router to the wired router using an ethernet cable.Follow this link to cascade both the router.
If the Range Expander is version3 then,it should work with WRT110.

I'm using a WRT160N router and only getting 2 bars out of 5; fair signal. A friend has offered to sell me a WRE54G range expander. Will a G repeater work with an N router?

Yes,the WRE54G should work with WRT160N...You need to match all the wireless settings of the router to the range expander and it should work then.

The key to what you seem to want to do is to be able to get Apple's Time Capsule router to "join" the network that your Conceptronic router.  I believe that works with some third-party routers, but I've never seen a list of those that work in such a configuration and I have no experience with Conceptronic equipment.
You might be better off with a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device instead of a Time Capsule.

  • Will Macbook late 2008 aluminum work with N wireless router?

I see in the tech specs that it is a/b/g compatible. Will it work with an N router?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The short answer is 'Yes', it will work with an N router.

    Why the 'draft' notation?
The 802.11n draft specification was originally introduced in 2003.
It was not finalized by IEEE until September 2009.

  • WRTP54G router: I have internet access wirelessly but a wired desktop doesn't.

We have an excellent wireless network working in the house, but my desktop (which isn't wireless) can't get internet access.  It says that a network cable is unplugged - it's not.  When a cable is plugged into one of the 4 ethernet ports in the back of the router, the ethernet lights on the front don't light up or flash or anything.  I think that part isn't working.  Is there anything I can do?  Should I update the firmware?  Or just get a new router?  I have tried using different cables, but nothing changes.  The only way for the desktop to get online is to take the router out of the configuration, but then the wireless network and the Vonage phone are out.
I went to ipconfig at the command prompt and under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: my Media State is Media disconnected.  So, I'm guessing the ethernet ports on the router are not working at all.
    Thanks for your help.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Do continuos ping ping 192.168.1.1 -t and check how many replies or RTO you will have. If you have replies even just a bit connect your PC to the modem to get internet connection and download the latest firmware and upgrade utility for your Router.
    FIRMWARE
    1. Go to www.linksys.com/downloads
    2. Enter the Model Number of your Router
    3. Choose Get Downloads
    4. Select the Device Version
    5. Check Downloads and Drivers then download the Firmware
    UPGRADE UTILITY
    1. Go to www.linksys.com/downloads
    2. Enter the Model Numner BEFSR41
    3. Choose Get Downloads
    4. Select Device Version - Version 4.0
    5. Check Downloads and Drivers then download the Utility
    After downloading those files.
Connect your PC back to the Router then run the TFTP(Utlity) set Server = 192.168.1.1; Password = admin; then choose the firmware file that you have downloaded. Then Upgrade the firmware of your router.
Note : Make sure the you have set the TCP/IP and DNS Server of you computer back to OBTAIN IP ADDRESS.
Note : To run the TFTP Utility set the TCP/IP and DNS Server of your computer back to USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDREESS.
Just follow the previous posts to do this. Good Luck.

  • How to get bonjour to work on a wag120n router so ipad can print wireless to hp deskjet 3070A

Does anyone know of a fax to to get bonjour to work on a wag120n router so my ipad can see and print wireless to hp deskjet 3070A.  I can reach the home page of the HP printer from the ipad using safari but the printer doesn't come up as an airprinter option.   I have a PC laptop (not apple) and it can print wireless to the HP 3070A.
I have logged on to the wag120n and it has firmware V1.00.16
I can't see any multcast options within the admin setup.
Any clues ?  thanks for your time.

I have looked for multicast options/filter within the admin function on the router but can NOT see any.  I have contacted CISCO directly and they have confirmed that this router will NOT do it, and they have no intention on bringing out a fix.  If someone has got it to work, let me know.  thanks for your time.  Andrew

  • Macbook Pro will not reliably connect to our wifi router  - any suggestions?!

    Hi
My partner has recently bought a second-hand (but fully functional) Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.8 to set up in our home office.
Our wireless router is not in the same room (it's in the living room via the hallway) but no other computer or device in the house has any problems detecting and connecting to the router.
My partner's pc netbook and my iPhone 4S connect fine all through the flat. My iMac (located in the office) also has no problems.
We have managed to get the Pro connected to the internet wirelessly a couple of times in the living room (although not all the time) but as soon as it is moved into the office the connection cannot be found or successfully connected to.
Can't help but think that there's some little setting or something that we've not done that is causing the problem - seems odd that all the other devices connecting have never had any issues! I'm not completely technically minded, but have had enough experience with computers to feel fairly confident on them - just wondered if anyone might be able to suggest anything?
The Network Preferences pages don't seem to be any help to me - I've tried several things in there that would usually help to rectify a troublesome connection.
Any help or advice would be so much appreciated - my partner bought this Macbook Pro to replace her netbook and a reliable online connection is paramount as she is designing websites etc. with it!
    Thanks,
    Jimbanzee

    Hi JohnTh
Thanks for your suggestion (and apologies that it's taken forever for me to try this out and get back to you)!
I think I've done what you suggested but I think my lack of computer knowledge is letting me down as it did not work.
I went to Network in System Preferences whilst connected to the internet via Ethernet cable, and managed to connect to my router, I then locked the changes, removed the cable and then restarted but straight away upon logging in, it had lost the changes and was unable to find the wireless connection.
To be honest, it will not always find it when the ethernet cable is plugged in - in fact, I've witnessed it go from green light connection, having found the router and getting an ip address to amber without the ip address to not being able to locate the router (all whilst still plugged in on ethernet) within the space of about two minutes!
I'm a bit hazy on the details of your suggestion when you say:
Go to the wireless setup from here, and change the name to something that you can recognise. Make sure that it is password protected. Save it so that it'll write itself to its flash memory (your network will briefly not work).
I went to the Network page of System Preferences straight away - is there somewhere else I should do the wireless setup? Our wireless connection is (as it is on my iMac which connects fine wirelessly) protected with a WPA2 Personal password.
How do I save it so that the setup will write itself to it's flash memory? Sorry not sure where this is!
I have also tried to remove the 'remembered' network from the advanced airport settings using the '-' button and then adding it '+' back in, but this also does not seem to work.
We are planning on upgrading the operating system from 10.5.8 once we can get a secure connection - my partner is happy that she can connect to the internet via Ethernet cable but she is wanting to sell her PC netbook (in order to part fund the purchase of the Macbook Pro) and she's not happy to do so until she can connect wirelessly successfully!
Finally, thanks for all your help and suggestions - really appreciate it and hope to find a solution!

  • Will adding AirPort Extreme to my fios router improve my speed and distance to led tv.. The tv keeps dropping network and 50% of the time it tells me my broadband is too slow. I have upgraded to fios faster internet speed.

Will adding AirPort Extreme to my Fios router improve reception on tv located about 50 feet away..have new top of the line samsung smart tv and it drops signal every other day. When trying to watch netflix or amazon it transmits in SD only says bandwidth is not high enough for Hd. My ipad laptops and iphone work fine in this room. Any help will be appreciated or am I better off with a booster.

The AirPort Extreme will not be able to wirelessly "boost" or "repeat" the wireless signal from the Fios router, since It will only work with another Apple router for that feature.
So, if you plan to extend or repeat the FIos wireless signal, you should use a product by the same manufacturer as the Fios router....or possibly a "universal" repeater from a company like Netgear.
Make sure that you understand the store's return policy before you buy any kind of extender or repeater.....since you cannot know if the product will help until you try it out in your home.
The TV really needs a wired Ethernet connection from the Fios router if at all possible.

  • Airport Extreme that I was using as an extender now refuses to work as a main router.

Recently I changed to Fibre Broadband in Singapore.  Because the connection for Fibre was located near the front door wifi was very very weak in my rooms.  This is what I did.
    1.  Connected my Airport Express (2nd Gen) to my "nucleus connect" Fibre modem by Ethernet.
    2.  Use my Airport Extreme (4th Gen) as extender by connecting wirelessly.
The speed that I was getting 30 Mbps.  I should be receiving about 70 - 100 Mbps.
I decided to switch things around by using my Airport Extreme as the Main Router followed by using Airport Express as Extender.  I did the reset, even set it to factory defaults and hard resetting.  But am totally unable to connect my Airport Extreme to my Fibre Modem.  It keeps flashing amber after trying to set it up.  Router is unable to get an IP Address.
Now I have gone back to my original configuration.  Airport extreme in this case as no issues working as an extender but somehow is not able to work as the main router anymore.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to hit 100Mbps.
To get speed up you need ethernet..
Could not connect to Airport Extreme by Ethernet as my wife insisted she did not want wires dangling around the living room.
Ethernet should be properly installed in the walls.
You will simply not get better speed without using ethernet.. as the one and only reliable method of connection..
You may get improvement using AC wireless bridge equipment.. that actually will cost you more than doing it in ethernet.. with poorer results..
AC wireless bridging is highly subject to conditions in the house.. while it looks great on paper it can work really poorly in practice.
You might also do better than 50Mbps using homeplug adapters.. they are like wireless however.. promising much and delivering so much less.. however the latest batch of 500mbps devices in perfect conditions might get better than 50Mbps throughput.
Not sure of technical term, sort of wired bridge
It is actually a wireless bridge. Wireless to ethernet bridge is perhaps the best and clearest term.
Did you test the extreme whilst running 7.6.1 with the express.. my experience is that 7.6.4 is definitely slower and I can show it repeatedly when I flash it up or downgrade back again .. I get worse then better results.
Forcing the link to 5ghz can work but the express are not so great.. I think you would do better with a pair of extreme.. buy a second gen4 or gen5..
But I think you have done really well with the equipment you have..

  • If I purchase a second Airport, will it strengthen the signal from the router in one part of the house , so that the printer, in a basement can see it?

I have a router in my upstairs, main floor of the house.   My iMac connects easily to the router, but the printer does not.  If I purchase a second Airport, will it strengthen the signal from the router so the printer will connect wirelessly to the network?
I had the printer connected to the iMac by USB , but when I upgraded the iMac to Maverick OS10  my scanner no longer worked, the more I fussed with it the less productive it was.   Now the printer no longer is available at all.   The computer does not see it.
The message when I turn them on is that the USB is not compatible.    I unplugged the USB cable,  and would like to connect wirelessly.
    Thank you for any hints
    Carol Havens

If you have an Apple router now providing your wireless network, you could add another....like an AirPort Express, for example....to "extend" the signal wirelessly and provide more coverage.
This is always a bit tricky, because the AirPort Express would need to be located where it can receive a strong signal from the main AirPort wireless router.
For example, if you need more wireless signal in a bedroom at the end of the house, you would locate the AirPort Express about half way between the main AirPort router and the bedroom.
On a side note......only the print function will work when you connect an All-in-One device to the USB port on an AirPort, so connect the All-in-One using wireless for full functionality.

Lots of threads on this popular question! Go to http://roaringapps.com/ for a compatibility chart. Very handy. You also may want to check on some of your other important apps. Things have actually changed on this chart since I looked at it on Friday. I'm sure developers are busy busy right now!
Also, rumor has it you will need to update java. Give it a try and let us know how it goes! I am about to do all of this but just ordered a new router so I need to take care of that first.
