Will Adobe CS5.5 Work on Yosemite?

I was wondering if anybody who has downloaded the Yosemite update and uses CS5.5 software, if your software was able to work?  I really need to know because  I got the CS5.5 creative suite (at the student price and version) when I was a student in college, but I had received a faulty disc that didn't work so both times I've had to install it by calling Adobe Tech Support (since my Macbook Pro Graphics card went out, thus replaced it with my current Macbook Air, Mid 2011) via a download code they sent me both times.
I am an artist and have a degree in Graphic Design, so having my Adobe programs work is very important to me!  It's also my only source of income at the moment via art commissions.
These are the Programs I need to know about
*Flash CS5.5
*Ilustrator CS5.1
*InDesign CS5.5
*Photoshop CS5.1
My current setup is OS X 10.7.5 Lion and everything works fine.  I refuse to upgrade my Mac unless I know my programs will work or until Yosemite fixes the glitches with the Adobe programs (according to reviews I've read.. most negative thus I'm really scared to upgrade).
Please help!

A partition is part of the space on a hard drive. Using Disk Utility on an empty drive you can, during the formatting operation, set up two or more partitions. Each partition will appear on your desktop as a separate drive and can be used as such. You can save to each, open files in each, eject each, mount each, as though each was a separate physical drive. Partitions are a tidy way to keep files separate from others not related to them: such as the installation of a complete operating system; backups of your current system; files etc.
I'm not sure but I don't think that complex applications like Adobe's can be backed up as stand-alone applications. This is probably because when they are installed the installation involves putting code into the bowels of the Operating System, and making a copy of the application would not copy that code. Obviously, Adobe make sure that their software cannot be copied simply, for obvious reasons.
I think (only think) from an experience a few years ago that Adobe keep a record of a person's purchases and subsequent upgrades of their software, and you might be able to contact Adobe (their Chat line worked well for me a year ago when I upgraded from Photoshop and Indesign CS5.5 to CS6) and on giving them details they might allow you to re-download their application and give you an activation code.
When I upgraded to Yosemite yesterday I simply ran Apple's installer obtained from the App Store. This installed Yosemite without interfering with any documents, application, utilities, music, images, emails etc. so I was able to use my iMac right away as normal. I have successfully upgraded the OS like this from Lion to M. Lion, to Mavericks, to Yosemite, relying on the OS installation not corrupting any of these files. Worked so far.
More generally you might like to consider getting a backup utility like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. Using CCC my iMac does a full cloned bootable backup of my whole system at 4 am every day on to a USB 2 external hard drive. If I get corruption (very rare) I can just boot up (restart) on the CCC clone as the Startup disc (see System Preferences) and get back to 4 am in about 10 minutes, or use CCC to clone the backup clone on to the internal hard drive in about 20 minutes.
Good luck.

Lots of threads on this popular question! Go to http://roaringapps.com/ for a compatibility chart. Very handy. You also may want to check on some of your other important apps. Things have actually changed on this chart since I looked at it on Friday. I'm sure developers are busy busy right now!
Also, rumor has it you will need to update java. Give it a try and let us know how it goes! I am about to do all of this but just ordered a new router so I need to take care of that first.

  • Will Adobe CS5 work with Intel HD Graphics card 3000?

I am thinking about buying this laptop. http://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-dv7-6163us-17.3-Laptop/product_343565
Will Adobe CS5 run on it OK?

Both of the HP laptops that you mentioned will be quite sluggish in running CS5, even compared to a cheap $400 desktop:
    1) Neither of those laptops have more than one single internal hard drive, which is already below Adobe's stated minimum requirements. Adobe requires a minimum of two discrete fast hard drives (no partitions) in order to run CS5 at all. Unfortunately, neither of those HP laptops have an eSATA port at all. (Those HP laptops have two USB 3.0 ports - but USB by itself doesn't support RAID at all.) Nor does either of those two laptops have any provision whatsoever to accommodate nore than the included internal hard drive.
    2) Based on the CPU alone, your first choice of a laptop with an i7-2630QM is better - but only if it also has an Nvidia GPU with 1GB or more. The CPU in your second choice, an i5-2410M, is only a dual-core CPU (in fact, all mobile i5's are only dual-core) - and no system (laptop or desktop) with a dual-core CPU performs as well in CS5 as even a mediocre system with a quad-core CPU.
    3) Neither of those two HP laptops come with (or is even available with) a GPU that supports MPE GPU acceleration. The first choice has only the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics while the other comes with an onboard AMD Mobility Radeon GPU. And as we all know, both of those systems would have run CS5 only in MPE software-only mode. There is a plugin to allow CS5 to utilize the QuickSync feature of the first laptop (the second one cannot utilize QuickSync at all because it uses a discrete GPU) - but that would have speeded up only the encoding times (it would not have helped rendering times much if at all).
    4) All consumer HP systems - both laptop and desktop - come pre-loaded with a ton of bloatware that cannot be easily uninstalled (or more precisely, software whose uninstallation still leaves behind pieces of it that actually slows down system performance and/or makes it run less stably). Worse, neither laptop includes a system restore disk (all of the restore files are on a locked hard drive partition that can only be accessed by one of HP's authorized service facilities). HP will sell you a recovery/restore disk, but that will cost you an additional fee.
    5) Both of those systems come with only 6GB of RAM. In the case of laptops, 8GB is recommended if you're going to run CS5 much. Although the systems theoretically support 16GB of RAM, those two laptops have only two DIMM slots, and there are currently no compatible 8GB modules on the market.
    6) Finally, the internal hard drive spins at only 5400 RPM. Laptop hard drives, as a rule, are slower than desktop hard drives (sequential speed wise). You'd be lucky if that 750GB 5400 RPM hard drive can sustain even half the sequential speed of the slowest current-production "Green" desktop hard drive.
As a result, both of those laptops would have been slower in the PPBM5 benchmark than most (if not all) of the desktops on the PPBM5 results list.

  • I need to install new Mac operating system Yosemite. Will Adobe CS5.5 still be compatible with Yosemite or will I have toupgrade all my Adobe products?

I need to install an upgrade to my mac - Yosemite.  Will my CS5.45 version of Adobe products be compatible with Yosemite or will I need to purchase and install upgrades to all the products?

Actually, the question is whether MacOS 10.10 is compatible with CS5.5, an existing application. Alas, when you are running MacOS, you pretty agree to an environment in which an OS upgrade may force application upgrades simply because Apple purposely does not maintain compatibility with existing applications. Sad, but true. Nothing that Adobe can do to get around this.
And more to your original point, Bob Levine is correct. It is not officially supported on MacOS 10.10 and even if you can coerce it to install and run at all, you will definitely have a compromised experience.

  • Will Photoshop CS5 work with Adobe CS 4 Design Premium Suite?

I have been debating to upgrade just the Photoshop to CS5 from my CS4 Design Premium Suite.  I still need training and skill development time with the other software in the suite, but feel pretty good with photoshop CS4 to upgrade to CS5.  Will everything still work together or do I need to upgrade the whole suite?  Thanks

The two applications will work together fine, but…
You CANNOT upgrade to a single, stand-alone application from a suite license under the terms of the EULA, which was clear when you bought the suite.  When you bought the suite, you commited to upgrading the whole suite forever.
So, unless you have a license for a full version of stand-alone Photoshop that has never been used to upgrade to anything, you are stuck with the suite.
I've never bought the suite and use very different versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and InDesign with no problem.

  • Migrating to Fedora (Linux) - Will Adobe products work well in WINE?

I am doing a big change to my systems and OS's, I see that Linux will do what I need. I am finding options for my other Apps, but I would prefer to continue using my Adobe products (they are not my main Apps). Do Adobe products work well in WINE environment? I am also looking at a crossover app that works in a virtual machine.
Thanks for any help or direction.

Migrating software programs from one machine or HD seldom works.  You need to actually *install* software from downloads or installation disks.  You don't mention which product ver you have.
Run the CS or CC Cleaner Tools below to wipe all traces of Adobe products from your HD.  Then re-install the customary way.
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Typically you only need to deactivate if you had previously installed your products on 2 machines.  Creative Cloud software installed on a 3rd machine will deactivate the previous installations.

  • Will adobe cs5.5 indesign run on mavericks?

I'm trying to find whether anyone has found upgrading to Mavericks creates problems for running Adobe CS5.5 and CS5.1 applications.

    Hi
Is anyone having problems printing to Inkjet printers from any Adobe product while running Mavericks. I can print from other software including iTunes but none of the Adobe products will. When I try to print a page will print but if I select the 'printer' tab in the print dialogue screen to fine tune the output to the printer (a Canon PIXMA iP3500) it crashes and gives this error screen:
