Will Adobe CS5 run if I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I downloaded Mountain Lion but haven't installed it yet because I am unsure if Adobe CS5 will work.

See the Roaring Apps compatability website -> http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.
They show which CS5 apps will run and which may be problematic.

    Mtn Lion not due out until the Summer, so no, you will not get a free upgrade.

  • MB running hot after upgrade to mountain Lion

    After upgrading from snow leopard to mountain lion my MB2010 is running very hot. It's been almost a month since the upgrade so I refuse to believe re-indexing files can be the reason. I see others with MBP/iMac having the same issue, I suspect this is a bug. It keeps the fan going and CPU temp reaches 95degC on a regular basis. It's killing the MB battery and I fear for my fertility....
    Is Apple going to solve this issue?

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks for your feedback,
    I did look at what applicatione were running and checked the memory usage when forcing termination of the individual apps in a sequence, but I noticed no major difference yet... I did not check the CPU load specifically, I used the system monitoring widget for this. I have just checked temps in AM that is indeed useful... but i find no clues there either. What in the Activity Monitor do you recommend monitoring? I just checked and the total CPU load is around 15% and all apps indvidually below 5% (I'm not running CAD programs or other CPU heavy programs typically...).
    Still the CPU gets hot. When I don't use it I now put it on the floor (nice cool tiles) so the heat can dissipate.

  • Will Adobe CS5 work with Intel HD Graphics card 3000?

    I am thinking about buying this laptop. http://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-dv7-6163us-17.3-Laptop/product_343565
    Will Adobe CS5 run on it OK?

    Both of the HP laptops that you mentioned will be quite sluggish in running CS5, even compared to a cheap $400 desktop:
    1) Neither of those laptops have more than one single internal hard drive, which is already below Adobe's stated minimum requirements. Adobe requires a minimum of two discrete fast hard drives (no partitions) in order to run CS5 at all. Unfortunately, neither of those HP laptops have an eSATA port at all. (Those HP laptops have two USB 3.0 ports - but USB by itself doesn't support RAID at all.) Nor does either of those two laptops have any provision whatsoever to accommodate nore than the included internal hard drive.
    2) Based on the CPU alone, your first choice of a laptop with an i7-2630QM is better - but only if it also has an Nvidia GPU with 1GB or more. The CPU in your second choice, an i5-2410M, is only a dual-core CPU (in fact, all mobile i5's are only dual-core) - and no system (laptop or desktop) with a dual-core CPU performs as well in CS5 as even a mediocre system with a quad-core CPU.
    3) Neither of those two HP laptops come with (or is even available with) a GPU that supports MPE GPU acceleration. The first choice has only the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics while the other comes with an onboard AMD Mobility Radeon GPU. And as we all know, both of those systems would have run CS5 only in MPE software-only mode. There is a plugin to allow CS5 to utilize the QuickSync feature of the first laptop (the second one cannot utilize QuickSync at all because it uses a discrete GPU) - but that would have speeded up only the encoding times (it would not have helped rendering times much if at all).
    4) All consumer HP systems - both laptop and desktop - come pre-loaded with a ton of bloatware that cannot be easily uninstalled (or more precisely, software whose uninstallation still leaves behind pieces of it that actually slows down system performance and/or makes it run less stably). Worse, neither laptop includes a system restore disk (all of the restore files are on a locked hard drive partition that can only be accessed by one of HP's authorized service facilities). HP will sell you a recovery/restore disk, but that will cost you an additional fee.
    5) Both of those systems come with only 6GB of RAM. In the case of laptops, 8GB is recommended if you're going to run CS5 much. Although the systems theoretically support 16GB of RAM, those two laptops have only two DIMM slots, and there are currently no compatible 8GB modules on the market.
    6) Finally, the internal hard drive spins at only 5400 RPM. Laptop hard drives, as a rule, are slower than desktop hard drives (sequential speed wise). You'd be lucky if that 750GB 5400 RPM hard drive can sustain even half the sequential speed of the slowest current-production "Green" desktop hard drive.
    As a result, both of those laptops would have been slower in the PPBM5 benchmark than most (if not all) of the desktops on the PPBM5 results list.

    Consider running your Adobe and AppleWorks software in Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) installed in Parallels in Lion or Mt. Lion:

    I just upgraded to mountain lion osx and now my applications are crossed out and out of date. they will not run. how do i fix this?

    Here is a recent post I assembled for a similar question:
    Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
    However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will open, modify and save your data files;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:

    As Austin Kinsella1 says, it's a good idea to check your program versions.

    You should not. But it never hurts to have a backup because bad things can happen.

    No. Mountain Lion Client and Server are two separate purchases and downloads. You will need to upgrade to both.

    Will Adobe CS5 work on OS X Yosemite?

    Lots of threads on this popular question! Go to http://roaringapps.com/ for a compatibility chart. Very handy. You also may want to check on some of your other important apps. Things have actually changed on this chart since I looked at it on Friday. I'm sure developers are busy busy right now!
    Also, rumor has it you will need to update java. Give it a try and let us know how it goes! I am about to do all of this but just ordered a new router so I need to take care of that first.

    On my 2008 MacBook I am running 10.6.8 with Microsoft Office 10.1.  Will this version of Office work if  I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

    No! Even Office 2004 will not run under Lion and newer. You can check out http://www.libreoffice.org/ and iWorks applications to replace Office.
    Check your applications for Mavericks compatibility here:  http://roaringapps.com/
    Note: a new version of Office for Mac is expected later this year or early next year. Buying Office 2011 now is buying old software. There will be no credits for older versions. The next version of Office will be subscription. This is the best option I know currently for subscription. This includes a free update to the new version when it's released.
    Office 365 Home Premium 1yr Subscription
    Regular List Price: $99.99  Price: $71.49 (price varies)
    Licensed for one user to install on up to five devices (Mac or PC)

    I a running 10.6. on a 2.1 ghz intel core 2 duo. Can i upgrade to mountain lion or will it slow down?

    Read the following technical specification
    This will tell you what facilities your computer needs to be upgraded to Mountain Lion.
    Pay particular attention to the amount of RAM.  Apple says you need 2GB, most people here would recommend 4GB.
    When you are satisfied you are equipped, you will need to use App store to buy the download ... and away you go.
