Will 'Adobe Reader 9.5.5' send notification to update after end of support on June 23, 2013?

This is installed on an edition of ‘Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2’. System type: 32-bit Operating System. Using IE9 browser.

Probably is the best way to go if end of support for ‘Adobe Reader 9.5.5’ is June 23, 2013. Does automatic update select the latest version of ‘Adobe Reader X’?

If the PDF is a form fillable PDF, which I assume that it is, email it to yourself or send it to DropBox and open it on your computer. You should see the fields filled in there. It works for me if I do it that way.
Adobe Reader supports it, but the other apps don't. I assume that if you email the PDF to a computer user it would be readable in Adode Reader.

  • When will Adobe Reader for Mobile Devices support 3D PDF files?

When will Adobe Reader for Mobile Devices support 3D PDF files?

There are two basic varieties of LiveCycle XFA...Static XFA and Dynamic XFA, which are very different in terms of their future for potential support in Adobe Reader for iOS. Which variety of XFA are you using?
Static XFA uses the PDF markup language for content and form fields, so users can view the documents in Adobe Reader for iOS, but we currently do not properly handle filling, saving, and submitting those forms. I have improving our handling of Static XFA on my roadmap, but cannot offer any specific date yet (sorry, policy plus actual uncertainty). I know that there are some other apps that partially support Static XFA, though I do not know how complete their support is. If you can even open the XFA document in Adobe Reader for iOS, it is likely Static XFA.
Dynamic XFA is effectively a JavaScript application packaged inside a PDF wrapper, which generates layout and form fields via code and requires a significant engine to support this. Support for Dynamic XFA is unfortunately not currently on our roadmap for iOS due to the nature of the technology, and our concern that any implementation we try likely will not pass Apple's restriction against installing something that allows other "apps" to be downloaded and executed from within it. The LiveCycle team is exploring solutions for our enterprise customers wanting to use Dynamic XFA from mobile devices as part of their server offering, but I cannot offer any insight here. To my knowledge, there are no applications that handle Dynamic XFA other than Adobe Reader for the desktop platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux).

  • Cannot use Adobe Reader "Mail" button to send via Yahoo mail.

When trying to use the "mail" button in Adobe Reader (or do File -> Send File...) to send the file via Yahoo e-mail, I get the following error:
"An unknown error occurred while uploading the attachment."
    Adobe Reader 11.0.10 for Windows.
Getting this error only on Yahoo e-mail accounts
Getting this on multiple Yahoo accounts on multiple PC's.
All PC's have current versions of Reader (11.0.10), all Windows 7/IE11 with current patches.
A client of ours was using this until last week, when it stopped working.
It is not working on any PC right now with Yahoo mail.

    Hi johnc46494667,
Please let me know whether you are getting this error since an Adobe Reader update.
Are you signed out of other accounts (except yahoo)?
Does this happen with every PDF file or any particular one?
    Hope to hear from you.

please help!!!!!! i filled out a job application using adobe reader but i cannot send the file back via email because the file is protected with a lock. how do i unlock this file to send it?!!!!!!!!!

    Hi kevinv1987,
It doesn't sound like the PDF was password protected (or Adobe Reader would prompt you for a password). Instead, it sounds like that file may be marked locked by your operating system. Are you on Mac OS or Windows? In either case, here are instructions for removing the lock icon from the file:
Remove the Lock Icon from a Folder in Windows 7 (check Microsoft's website if you have a different version of Windows)
On Mac OS, select the file in the Finder, and choose File > Get Info. Then, just deselect the Lock checkbox.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • When will Adobe Reader support interactive PDF elements on iOS?

When will Adobe Reader support interactive PDF elements on iOS? I don't want to hear the line that Apple won't allow Flash. Adobe needs to get a workaround PRONTO! We need detection of simple buttons and support for Mp4 and f4v - as exported inline by inDesign when creating PDFs.

Pat Willener, Thank you for your message. I have done what you suggest. I could have sworn I started this topic in the general Adobe Reader discussion. So I have also placed a copy back where I thought I first had it so it can be found by other Windows users who, like me, are creating PDF files because they are meant to comply with an international cross-platform standard and not simply be the domain of one platform over the other.
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature: Support for interactive PDFs
How would you like the feature to work? When I add a transparent frame containing a  basic Adobe Media encoded mp4 or f4v video, export to interactive PDF from Adobe InDesign, I want the PDF and its interactive videos to work on iPads. See an example file here: ***EXAMPLE PROVIDED***  Click the lefthand top and bottom corners to bring up interactive video elements which should open in floating window, maximized, then have an exit button to close and continue reading the PDF. Of course, this does not function under Adobe Reader for iOS. You also need to attend to audio files embedded in the same way and allow an exit button to close the audio window so the reader can continue reading the PDF on Windows.
Why is this feature important to you? I create eReaders for schools across the whole country and they are taking up iPads at an unprecedented rate. If Adobe do not produce a solution for interactive PDFs on iOS then I will no longer use InDesign, Acrobat, Adobe Media Encoder or Photoshop to create works in the future. You're looking at a massive education market that will leave Adobe behind if this is not acted upon very very soon. For some publishers it's already too late and they have moved to app based creation tools.

  • Using Maverick, error message: Adobe Reader could not open '***.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

Receiving error message using current Maverick version: "Adobe Reader could not open '***.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).".  Is fix the same as on previous OS versions?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Adobe Reader could not open .img because it is either not a supported file type or the file damaged

Yes, *.img is either a stone old image format (as in picture/ photo) or a shorthand for a disk image archive. If you're reasonably sure it's a pixel image, use a converter like IrfanView or XnView and turn it into something Acrobat/ Reader can actually use...

  • When will Adobe Reader for iOS support Livecycle XFA forms?

Adobe Reader for iOS currently does not appear to support XFA forms created through Livecycle. Although it supports some field types, the HTTP submit and Email submit buttons don't work.
Being able to email the completed form ready for someone else to submit would be a work around, however when attempting to 'share' a completed form and send it by email the form is blank when saved and opened in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a PC.
We are getting more and more requests from ipad users who wish to use our forms, and it seems that some other paid-for apps claim to support this. Seeing as Adobe Reader is the industry standard product for using PDFs could we have more support for pdf forms please?
...or at the very least, a product roadmap with some dates for when this might be available please?

There are two basic varieties of LiveCycle XFA...Static XFA and Dynamic XFA, which are very different in terms of their future for potential support in Adobe Reader for iOS. Which variety of XFA are you using?

  • Adobe Reader & Outlook 2003/2007 send to email

I have multiple Windows XP users experiencing this problem when trying to send and PDF file through email.
    Adobe-File-send through email.
Adobe and the email gets locked up with the following error message:
"Microsoft Office Outlook, The operation failed due to network or other communication problems. Check your connections and try again."
It seems that if the users send the email within 30 seconds the email sends ok but if the wait past 30 - 60 seconds thats when the above error occurs.
Microsoft said this an adobe issue and Adobe said they had the fix for Acrobat users to upgrade to version 9 but when I told them I'm using Adobe reader 9 and I have the same problem they told me adobe reader users have to use the forums for support.???
Has anybody seen this before and have you found a workaround?

I have been seeing this off and on. It is rarely consistent and I have been waiting to find a PC that could reproduce this. I finally got one and was able to reproduce the issue about a dozen times back to back, often when the message has been open for a couple minutes. I have been using Windows Debug tools to isolate the culprit and capture a dmp file to analyze. In each instance of the problem a hang is produced after clicking OK to the message. This is where I have been starting the capture. In our case all the dumps of outlook.exe show the culprit as being valkyrie.dll, an add-in associated with Symantec Enterprise Vault. After disabling the add-in, the issue could not be reproduced. I am not 100% convinced though. I would like to know if other dumps outside of our environment point to the same culprit.
To capture a dmp file you will need to install the debugging tools for windows from Microsoft. Once installed, go into the folder where it is installed (C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x86) by default) and run adplus.vbs. Dont worry about the details now, just click OK or Yes to the prompts. You will use adplus from the command line when the issue happens. To do this:
Create the problem and click OK to the "The operation failed due to network or other communication problems. Check your connections and try again". Outlook should become unresponsive/hung up.
Open command window (Start>Run and type cmd).
Navigate to the folder where the debugging tools were installed (cd c:\program files\debugginf tools for windows (x86))
Create a dmp file by running the following: adplus -hang -pn outlook.exe(-hang will tell adplus that a there is a hung application you wish to dump and -pn specifies the process name)
A dialog box will indicate that a folder has been created in the windows debugging folder. It will be named something like Hang_Mode__Date_... The date and time will correspond to the date and time of when the dump took place. Go into this folder and verify there is a .dmp file. The name of the file corresponds to the process ID of the process, the process name, and date and time. The file can be fairly large since it consists of a memory dump.
To analyze this file, open Windbg from the exe or from Start>Programs>Debugging Tools for Windows>WinDbg.
Go to File>Open Crash Dump and locate the file above.
Dont worry about all the jiberish you initially see. In the empty line at the bottom run the following command: !analyze -v. While the file is being analyzed, the status message will say BUSY. Dont worry about the "Error: Symbol file could not be found..."
Look for the FAULTING_MODULE and MODULE_NAME. In our case the culprit this was ntdll and Valkyrie. As mentioned above, Valkyrie.dll is associated with the Symantec Enterprise add-in and this is what we are currently looking at with Symantec.
This is an example of the dump:
I would be interested to know what results you have found.

  • Will Adobe Reader 7.0.9 or 7.1.0 work with Content Server 4?

    Hello Adobe,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S213 laptop, Intel Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP Home.
I've purchased ebooks from SimonSays.com several times over the course of 2008; each time, my Adobe Reader 7.0.9 was able to open the "ebx.etd" file and able to access the ebooks without any problems.
However, the last purchase I made around a week ago keeps leading to me downloading ".acsm" files, which Adobe Reader 7.0.9 (or Adobe Reader 7.1.0) doesn't recognize and can't open.
I contacted SimonSays.com and they suggested that I download Adobe Digital Editions. I don't know if that will solve the problem or not.
I've done some of my own research and found that between my last purchase in early September and the one I made in early October, Adobe changed their Content Server from Version 3 to Version 4? Does that explain why I can't even download the "ebx.etd" files from ebooks I've already downloaded in the past, but instead, get ".acsm" files instead for those ebooks that I've downloaded before?
I take it then that Adobe Reader 7 (any version) can no longer read ebooks you purchase from retailers such as SimonSays.com and that you have to use Adobe Digital Editions instead? I even upgraded from Adobe Reader 7.0.9 to Adobe Reader 7.1.0, thinking that would do the trick, but it's still downloading ".acsm" files.
I did authorize Adobe Reader back in January (which is why I could download and read the ebooks from my previous purchases); I know I ran antivirus and anti-spyware software and wasn't sure whether I deleted something that might have caused this problem, but I know that I've run those same programs and never had this problem before now. Do I have to reauthorize Adobe Reader somehow, and if so, how? I log into Adobe and get that "Eden.ui" zipped file, but putting that into the folder with the ".acsm" file doesn't allow Adobe Reader to open it and read it.
Therefore, is there any way to keep using Adobe Reader 7.1.0 to read my future ebook purchases or is the only way to read ebooks from now on is via Adobe Digital Editions? And if I download Adobe Digital Editions, is it better to keep Adobe Reader 7.1.0 on my system or should I upgrade to Adobe Reader 8 or 9?
I'd greatly appreciate any and all advice on this, as I can't open ebooks I've purchased, and I'm pretty sure there are no refunds for ebook purchases (though I'd prefer to be able to purchase and read ebooks in the future) - thank you.
Please take care and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Joseph Chengery

    Hello,
You will need to install Adobe Digital Editions which will solve this issue. .acsm files only open with Digital Editions. Also, if you import all of your previously purchased books with Digital Editions, they will be migrated automatically. Digital Editions can be downloaded for free from:
