Will AE CS6 use all my cuda cores?

I have 2 quadro cx cards. Specs for each are 1.5g memory and 192 cuda cores and have the latest drivers.
1) Will AE use 1.5 or 3g of gddr? It is currently showing 1.5 usage.
2) Will AE use 192 or 392 cores?
3) Do I have to install the SLI bridge?

1) Will AE use 1.5 or 3g of gddr?
Never. Having two cards does not double the memory because each card will redundantly store data in its local RAM.
2) Will AE use 192 or 392 cores?
AE doesn't care. It will use whatever the driver makes available and that is an either/ or thing. It's all or nothing. If your driver enables both cards all 392 cores will be avialable, if foer some reason the driver goes belly up, it may only show one or none at all...
3) Do I have to install the SLI bridge?
For CUDA you shouldn't have to, as it's managed directly over the PCI bus.

  • Can Photoshop Cs6 Use all 12 Cores ?

    Hi,
I'm purchasing a new Mac Pro 12 Core Desktop and I was wondering can Cs6 use all 12 cores of the processor  ? Also, How much real ram can photoshop use ?
    Thanks

You can read about it in this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-performance-photoshop-cs4-cs5.html
The more cores you use, the less you get from each additional core. Therefore, Photoshop doesn’t run four times as fast on a computer with 16 processor cores as on a computer with four cores. For

What will really make a difference apart from RAM and processor is your Hard Drive itself. Faster drive equals lower processing latency, resulting in faster saves and so on. Your scratch disk highly depends on the hard drive that you use.

First, did you use Setup or Migration Assistant? That can happen when coming from a PowerMac or sometimes even from another (Intel) Mac.
Second, wait for the next version of Final Cut due very soon to ship (may have to wait for the ".1" of course to clean up any early issues.

  • Can Acrobat 9 Multi-Thread (use all my cpu cores)

i have several 700+ page thick PDF documents i want to run OCR on. i can batch run them just fine, however i cannot get adobe to use more than one core of my 8 core iMac. so the process takes needlessly long because 87% of my CPU power is just sitting idle. i also cannot do anything with adobe while it is running its OCR program.
is there a way to force acrobat to be multi-threaded?
is there a way to use it for other things while its working?

Nope, no version of Acrobat is a multithreaded application. See the first bullet point: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/DevFAQ_Introduction.21.16.ht ml

  • New GPU Quadro k5200 installed and having problem with my AE, PPro CS6  not using the GPUs cuda.

Hi guys, I recently bought a workstation from BOXX tech with a new GPU Quadro k5200 installed in it.
I am having problem with my AE, PPro CS6 using the GPUs cuda.
I went to Nvidia Settings and use the specific App to select it to use GPU n- Quadro k5200. But still not working.
    Please help

If you edited the Cudatextfile in the Adobe Premiere CS6 directory correctly then the acceleration should be enabled. The only way it it's not is if you have the wrong driver for that version of Adobe or did not edit the text file with the exact name of the card. You can use the GPUsniffer in that same Premiere directoy with the command prompt to see the name the GPU should be listed as. The Ray Tracer file in AE has to be edited with the same listing.

  • Only using 1 of 4 cores ?

    Hi
Everytime there is a high processing app running at max, it seems to use all of one core block on Activity Monitor, but the rest of the 3 remaining cores are empty. AM shows 100% cpu and things dont get any better if i open another app alongside - it just detracts from the one processor being utilised at any one time.
It just seems that i dont get the benefit at all of the 3 redundant cores ?
is there any way i can change a setting to get more cores working all the time instead of one maxing out at a time ?
    cheers

Applications must be written in multi thread to spread across multiple cores, single thread application, like QT I think, will always run on one core. I don't know why, off hand, running more applications will not use more cores, perhaps an OS issue.

  • CS5 not using all available memory/CPU

I'm sure this is the opposite complaint you usually get, but for some reason AME will only sometimes use all available memory/CPU power.  I'm on an 8 core Mac Pro, and while AME will sometimes register as using ~%1,000 CPU and just blitz through videos, other times it hovers around %100 and processes at regular speed.  Right now, for example, it's using about 600 MB of memory, leaving over 3.6 GB free.  Is there any way to assure that it always runs at max speed?

There's another thread with a similar set of issues. Other than the disk subsystem, there is another possibility for the bottleneck. That is, the codecs that are used to decode the input video files may not be efficiently multithreaded. Hence the codec responsible for creating the output file, the CPU and the disk subsystem all could be lightning fast and collectively they may all be waiting for frames to be served up by the decoder. You can check whether the disk subsystem is the bottleneck by creating a RAM disk (assuming that you have enough system RAM) and both putting all input files on and writing the output files to the RAM drive.

  • CPU Processing Distribution Question. Will 4 core VM use all physical cores on physical processor(s)?

Sorry if the title is vague, I am unsure how to properly word my question down to a single line. Anyways, on to my question, if I have two 16 core processors in a server, but I have 1 virtual machine that is setup with 4 cores, will the vmware only use 4 of the physical cores, or will the processing be distributed among all the cores? If searched the documentation but was unable to find much information about this specific situation. The reason I have it set to 4 cores instead of more is because the application I am trying to run only uses up to 4 core and if I can use vSphere to distribute out that processing it would greatly improve the performance. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Community - a VCPU can only run on a single core at a time - so your 4 VCPU vm will run only 4 of the 32 cores that are available in you ESXi host but each - the ESXi host is also smart enough not let the any of the 4 VCPUs share core either. By default the VM's VCPUs can be scheduled on any of the 332 physical cores
I am also moving your question to a more appropriate forum.

  • Optimizing: Use all 8 cores

Hi, I have an early 2008 Mac Pro with 2 quad core 2.8GHz. When ever I run simulations(around 10,000) in Excel 2004 or when I'm running a program in Matlab it takes a long time, (longer than an old Dell with a Pentium 3 1.8GHz). When I open up the activity monitor it shows that it is only using 12% of the CPU and the other 88% is just sitting idle. I was wondering if there is a way to tell the computer to use all of the CPU for a specific task or if it needs to be done in the program.
Thanks in advance for your help.(I'm not sure if this is in the correct place in the forum. Sorry if it is.)

Intel brings thread optimisation tool to OpenSolaris
By James Niccolai, IDG News Service
Developers who use C++ and Sun's OpenSolaris OS are to be offered a new tool. Intel said that Threading Building Blocks was aimed at reducing the amount of coding that C++ developers have to do to take advantage of the extra computing power in multicore chips.
C++ isn't designed in a way that takes advantage of multiple cores naturally, so application performance won't scale proportionally as additional cores are added. Threading Building Blocks aims to address that.
It is already offered for Windows, Linux, the Mac OS and FreeBSD and it's now available for OpenSolaris, said Doug Fisher, general manager of Intel's Systems Software Division
    http://www.techworld.com/applications/news/index.cfm?newsID=101454
Intel released new compilers last fall with the advent of the Penryn to help generate better optimizations for multi-core chips for use on OS X and other platforms.
Still early on in the multi-core systems, though I think Apple has been on top of the ball, applications do need to be recomiled or even moved to new code base.
CS4 is suppose to come out in 64-bit version for Vista while the OS X version will take longer and wait for CS5.
And the OS can do some of the work at times to help scheduling. But there are times when moving code and data between cores can be ineffecient and lead to "core" or "thread" thrashing which is why you see much larger L3 caches in some systems to take up the latency penalty.
Taming the front side bus, moving to direct connect, embedded memory controller, and also, "Penryn" is two dual-core cpus in a package, while the next generation will be a true native quad-core, the Penryn chip is still more efficient clock for clock over its predecessor Xeon used in 2007 Mac Pro.

  • Photoshop CS6 not using all available computer memory [was:Hello all]

I have the creative cloud trial version, and when I use photoshop cs6 it will not allow me to use all of the memory. I would love any help that can be offered.

Sound like you starting the 32 bit version of Photoshop on a Windows system. If you have a 64 bit Windows system both the 32bit version and the 64bit version of CS6 is installed. Look in you start button you should sett two CS6 start icons one for each version. Only the 64 Bit version can use more than 4GB of Ram.

  • CUDA Cores is what it's all about right ? - just looking at specs 680/580/470

    Hi guys,
Was just looking at the specs for the new Nvidia GTX 680, the 580 and the 470 which I own currently.
    CUDA Cores
    GTX 680 - 1536
    GTX 580 - 512
    GTX 470 - 448
First off, - wow !  ... the 680 specs are amazing.
Second thought - I was really thinking of jumping to the GTX 580 instead of the 680 to save money ( 580 pricing will be dropping dramatically in the coming months )
However.... after seeing the CUDA cores with my own eyes, it seems like a less than brilliant choice to even put money into the 580 at this point.
The 470 could do 448 cuda cores, and the 580 only jumps to 512 ... hardly a jump at all.  Going from 448 CUDA cores to 1536 is just well, mind popping.
What do you all say ?  thoughts ?
    Thanks !
    Dave.

Be aware that although the new 680 GTX has 3x as many cuda cores, its only 2x as far as performance is concerned.
They're not the same type of cuda core from the last generation, fermi. They got rid of the shader clock which was 1.4ghz+ in the past, and now the cuda cores run at the 'core' clock, which is significantly less. Because they dropped the clock, they tripled the cuda cores and in turn got around 2x the performance.
My eyes lit up when I saw the first specs of 1500 cuda cores but then I knew something was up. They only dropped one node, how could they triple the cores?
Anandtech has a great article explaining it. Keplar's (680) cuda cores aren't apple to apple comparisons to Fermi's (580). No shader clock, smaller memory bus but 3x the amount...cant wait for the real kepler big card, not the dual-gpu one either..

  • Premiere Pro is not using all core power for rendering of timeline

I have got PremierePro CS5.5 and i7 920 and nvidia GTX 295. When i edit my footage (cineform) everything is fine becouse i am using CUDA boost but when i am trying to render timeline i saw on my CPU & GPU Monitor that rendering is using maybe about 10% of power of all cores (8 cores). How to do to use all cores power when i am rendering my timeline?

When i am using cuda i work much faster with fullhd timeline than i am working with cpu. I thought that cuda is accelerating only editing of timeline becouse line is always yellow and when i am using rendering line is green and system is using cpu power. So i thought that cuda is acceleration only for editing without rendering acceleration. When i would use cuda for rendering acceleration system should work faster than with cpu rendering and it`s not true.
What is fastest way to turning off CUDA (to turn it on for a while).
    Thanks a lot...

  • Dynamic Linked AE comp not using all cores in Premiere CS5 to render

I have a project that is taking forever to render and am trying to troubleshoot it. It has an AE comp that is used several times and seems to be the culprit. If i load that into after effects and render with my "use 7 of 8 cores with 1GB ram each" setting in afx then my cpu usage is about 80-90% and it renders that segment in 50 seconds.
Now when i link that into premiere and it is rendering along almost maxxing out all 8 cores until it hits that comp and then cpu usage drops down and only one core is at 80% and the rest are around below 20% and that segment takes almost 10 minutes for premiere to get through.
Now obviously i can pre-render that and replace the comp and the problem will be solved but i would much rather see premiere render at full speed like it should. Am i missing something? With multicore systems this would make dynamic linking almost worthless if it wont use them (and i LOVE dynamic linking, it is a GREAT feature)
system is win7, cs5, dual quad xeon (8 cores), GTX 460, and 20GB ram.
    thanks!

    > Am i missing something?
    No, you're not missing anything.
This is a current limitation of using Dynamic Link between Premiere Pro and After Effects. When Premiere Pro calls the headless version of After Effects to render those frames, only one After Effects process is used.
We're working on improving Dynamic Link. If you'd like to influence where we put our effort, please make a feature request so that the folks deciding what work to do can register your vote.

  • How Many CUDA cores does Premiere CS 5.5 use?

    I read an article: http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5.htm
He has tested many different CUDA cards, or Nvidia Cards, and in his article, he states that the maximum number of CUDA cores that Adobe uses are 96. He makes a compelling argument to use a different - or non approved card, as long as it has more than 96 cores.
    Is this true?
Are people getting good performance from cards like the 550 TI, or the 560TI, which are cheaper?
    Your comments are welcomed.
    Thanks
    DBK

In the article, all of the benchmarks were done with Premiere CS5.5
Today, I updated the article to make things a little more clear for everyone.
As a side note to Randall, I just got in an EVGA GT545 Card with DDR5 memory so they are available with DDR5 memory now.

Thank you for responding.  Nothing actually worked!  After reading the posts online, I called Apple.  They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades.  The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did!  But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.
