Will Airport Base Station (white) work with MacBook Pro?

I have an older Airport Base Station (white) which I'd like to use with a new MacBook Pro laptop. However when I try to set it up I get a message that the base station doesn't see my wireless card. The card is listed in system profiler but the base station doesn't recognize it. Is the Airport base station compatible with the newer airport extreme card in the Macbook Pro?

Bill,
Yes, the newer Airport Cards are backward compatible with the older 802.11b technology.
How are you trying to set this up?
Are you using Airport Setup Assistant?
Try using the Assistant to "Change settings on an existing Airport Base Station".
See if your computer will find the base station this way.
Make sure you allow the Assistant to set up your computer using DHCP and IPv6. You can always change them back manually when you are finished.
Let us know what happens.

  • How to configure correctly the Airport Base Station to work with windows PC?

    Hi Friends...
I am having MacBook Air and Windows PCs with XP & Windows7.
In MacBook I can use the internet through Airport Extreme Base Station.
But In windows PCs I am unable to use. It is not getting the IP. And I am unable to configure DHCP also.
Please help me out in this or let me know where i can get step by step instructions.
    Regards,
    Prakash

If you temporarily disable wireless security on the AirPort, can both PCs now get their proper IP address information from the DHCP server in the base station?

    11. How is the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter different from the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter?
The Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter works best with displays that operate at dual-link resolutions, which are resolutions above 1920 x 1200. For displays that do not support dual-link DVI resolutions (displays that operate at resolutions of 1920 x 1200 or lower) you should use the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter instead.
    12. Which monitors work with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter?
Use the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to connect your computer to a 30-inch display that includes a dual-link DVI connector, such as the Apple Cinema HD Display. Note: For such displays, be sure to connect the USB connection on the adapter to the USB port on your Mac; also connect the USB connection from the display to the USB port on the adapter.

  • Will a large Apple monitor work with MacBook Pro without add on hardware?

Can I just plug a large Apple monitor into my Mac Pro and have it work or do I need a special card? I'd like to attach a 30" Apple display.
    Thanks!

You'll get more applicable answers if you ask in the MacBook Pro forum, then. What applies to a Mac Pro, which is what this forum is for, and to the MacBook Pro may be very different.
When you repost, please be sure to specific your exact model of MacBook Pro. You can get this information by running System Profiler and looking in the Hardware section for the model identifier, processor name and processor speed. Knowing exactly what you have may be important in answering your question.

  • Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display?

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display, please?
Have searched Adobe website for answer - most recent is 2013 answer, saying no.
Contradicted by a staff ember who only referred to Photoshop, not Elements.
Reason I need it is that iPhoto does not support very high resolution photos - which I have now scanned onto my MacBook and do not want to re-scan!! After 90 minutes at my local Genius bar (lovely folk, very conscientiously searching for an answer...), re-scanning was their final piece of advice.
    Help, please...

    Hello Smis,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are having issues with your HP Monitor on your MAC. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Updating a Monitor Driver, where it states under the sub-heading Using HP monitors on a Mac "HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
This being said all I can advise is that you check to see that the monitor is set to operat at 60Hz and contact Apple for assistance if that does not get your monitor displaying correctly.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

  • MacBook Air Superdrive?? Does it work with MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I need an external Superdrive. Does the MacBook Air Superdrive work with MacBook Pro??

No, it does not (at least, not without opening the drive and modifying the internal components).
External optical drives from Sony and LaCie work well with the MBP. Here's ONE EXAMPLE, here's ANOTHER EXAMPLE, both from Amazon.

    Thanks!

It should. First, turn on BlueTooth on the computer. In BT preferences be sure to check the option to look for all devices. Your remote should be picked up and a notice asking if you want to Pair it with the computer. Select Yes. Once it is paired it can be used to control your computer.

  • Does 'Network Connect' work with MacBook Pro?

My safari unexpectedly quits when attempting to log into my company's VPN.
    - I log into our VPN website and the connection begins to initialize
    - with my MacBook, Safari (2.0.3) unexpectedly quits
    - with my PowerBook, 'Network Connect' automatically starts and the VPN connection completes without any problem
Does 'Network Connect' work with MacBook Pro? Any ideas?

Resolved. MacBook Pro was having trouble dowloading the 'Network Connect' application when I logged into my VPN client for the first time. I copied it from my PowerBook G4 over to the appropriate folder and it now works perfectly.

  • Time capsule base station not working with Airport Express

    Hi...
I have a network setup using the airport base station hat is part of my (older) time capsule.  I also have an older Airport Express.
My network is working fine...and looks like the first image below.  When I plug in the Airport Express and reset it...I get what you see on the second image.  The thing is...the airport utility is supporting the base station just fine prior to looking for the airport.  I presently have airport utility 6.3.2 and my airport base station has firmware 7.6.4.
    Any help would be great....thanks!

Your express is a G wireless model and not compatible with the N wireless TC.
You can use it but only by using it with ethernet and setting it up as AP.. you also need to use 5.6 utility not v6.. apple removed support for G wireless devices from v6.
    LOL..
    I was 2min late.

  • Old airport base station quits working several times and week and won't let

    me change the password.
I changed the password on my ibook and reset the airport base station but it still will not change the wpa2 password to the new one. I'm changing the password to rule out anyone having hacked into the network. Several times a week the whole network goes down and I have to turn off power to the base station to get it working again.
I have plugged it into a battery backup ups but that has not prevented it from crashing.

Pick, a quick Google search for "Airport Firmware 5.5.1" yielded the following link:
    http://mac.sofotex.com/download-122643.html
I sense you're getting frustrated - I have a gift for such perceptiveness. Anyway, I wish I could explain your problems but I have no magic bullet for what you're experiencing. All I can offer is to suggest you download and install the above firmware. Hopefully the link works; I haven't tried it. There may be other ways of obtaining 5.5.1 but none was immediately apparent from Apple. Once installed, stick with firmware 5.5.1. As I noted I suffered major problems with 5.6 and have heard anecdotal reports of similar problems with 5.7 though apparently they're much rarer. My Extremes run literally forever without problems so I hope yours can too.
Next, disable all the encryption on your network for the duration of your troubleshooting. Simplify things as much as possible - remove all but one wireless client from your network. Perform a "hard reset" of your Extreme and reconfigure it from new. Run things like that for a while and see if anything changes.
Is it possible you're suffering from poor power quality e.g. dropouts, surges, sags, etc? Have you tried a UPS or at least a surge suppressor? I had a spell last summer when the utility would shut off power for a half second a day, literally, a half second, once a day, every day, for weeks. It drove me nuts. They immediately stopped this nonsense the moment I started running my Airport off a battery.

  • Graphite base station not working with my Intel Based Mac Mini and iPhone.

My Airport Express died after 2 years of use. I had to resort to plugging in my old but still functioning Graphite Airport base station. Since the set up assisant on my Mac mini does not work with the older base station, I used my G4 400 tower to set it up. I got it working and tested the connection. On to testing my iPhone. It sees the new network. Password is entered and the wifi icon shows full signal strength, but does not connect to the web. Next I try my Mac mini out on the new network and it too sees the network, but does not connect to the web. I double check the older G4 and the connection is still strong and fast. I shut the G4 down thinking that maybe the Graphite can only support one computer at a time, and the Mac mini and iPhone still can't connect to the web. I'm not sure what to do with this one. Is there a setting that I need to use? As far as security goes, the Graphite base station was set up with a WEP password. Any help would be great

I suggest using AirPort Admin Utility (version 4.2) to check the base station settings and change them, if necessary. (AirPort Admin Utility should be able to configure a Graphite base station from a computer running Mac OS X 10.4, even though AirPort Setup Assistant can't.)
In the Network pane of AirPort Admin Utility, please make sure that "Distribute IP addresses" and "Share a single IP address (using DHCP and NAT)" are checked, and that everything else is unchecked. I am assuming that the Graphite is the only router in your local network and that there are no computers connected via Ethernet.
The Access Control pane of AirPort Admin Utility should list either all of the relevant AirPort ID's or nothing. You can find the AirPort ID of an OS X computer by looking at System Preferences>Network>Show:AirPort>AirPort.
The Internet pane of AirPort Admin Utility should be set in accordance with your Internet provider's requirements. Most likely, it should be set to Connect Using:Ethernet and Configure:Using DHCP.
After verifying the settings, power down the computers, base station and cable or DSL modem for a few minutes, then start them up sequentially, leaving time for each to get fully up and running: first the modem, then the base station, and finally the computers.
The network preferences on the Mac Mini and the iPhone are also relevant. I assume that the preferences are unchanged from those that worked with the AirPort Express.
    I hope this helps.
