Will Airport Extreme work with OS X 10.4.11

I have a MacBook (black) with OS X 10.4.11 and am unable to configure my new Airport Extreme (802.11n) using Airport Utility 5.4.2 (the newest one available for download). When I try to set-up the AEBS, I get this error message:
+"This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this Apple wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Use the version of AirPort Utility that came on the CD with your Apple wireless device."+
When I try to install the software from the CD that came with the Airport, I get this message:
+"You cannot install Airport Utility on this volume. This software requires Mac OS X version 10.5.7 or later."+
When I bought the AEBS today, I was worried that it wouldn't work with OS X 10.4.x but the salesperson at the Apple Store assured me it would. I know that the specs online said +"For setup and administration: Mac computer with Mac OS X v10.5.7 or later, CD drive, and Ethernet or wireless networking capability"+ but I found the Technical Specs from Apple's Support Page stating that +"For setup and administration: Mac with Mac OS X v10.4 or later, CD drive, and Ethernet or wireless networking capability"+ so I thought maybe they had done something to allow users with the older OS to still set-up and use the AEBS.
I am able to use the AEBS without any problems (online with it right now) but I would really like the opportunity to set-up and protect my wireless network. Is there any way to do this on my current OS or will I have to upgrade in order to use the Airport Extreme?

If you could borrow a Mac with a newer operating system, you could use this to setup the AirPort Extreme and your computer would work on the network. Alternately, you might check to see if someone at the Apple store could help you setup your AirPort Extreme there and then you could take it home.
If you can't find a Mac to setup the AirPort Extreme, you will need to upgrade your system software to be able to configure the device.

The most recent AirPort Extreme works without any problem with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, but the problem is that it requires AirPort Utility 6.3 to set it up, and this version is only available for OS X Lion and Mountain Lion.
If you don't want to upgrade Mac OS X and you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you can use them to set up your AirPort Extreme. Open Settings > Wi-Fi, choose your AirPort station and follow the steps.
If you don't have any of those devices, upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. Open the Mac App Store and purchase it. Make a backup of your data with Time Machine and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com When the download finishes, upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install AirPort Utility 6.3, which you have to open and follow its steps.
The other option is to return your AirPort Extreme and get an older one

The AirPort Extreme fully implements the IEEE 802.11 wireless protocols for a through n and will work with any computer that uses a compliant version of any of those protocols. So, yes it will work with the Lenovo as long as the Lenovo is not doing something strange with wireless.

In addition to Keith's comments, if you are asking if the iPad can configure an Apple router like the AirPort Express, the answer would be yes, if you download and install AirPort Utility from the App Store. It's free.
I'm assuming that you have a newer version of the Express. Check the Model No on the side of the device. It needs to be A1264.

if you do not have an Ethernet Internet connection to connect to the Ethernet port on the Express, you can still use the Express to "Create a wireless network", but of course devices will not be able to connect to the Internet. The Express will complain, but you can ignore the error messages.
If your printer is wireless, hopefully it is an AirPrint compatible printer. Then you would be able to print from the iPad. Check this Apple Support document for information about compatible printers. There might be other applications that would allow this as well. Check Keith's post for that info.

How do I make an Airport Extreme work with a Linksys WRT160N

I have a Linksys WRT160N V3 Router that I have connected to my cable modem. I have an iMac in another room along with a PC based laptop. Range is fine to get them to connect wirelessly. However what I would like to do is to also connect my Blu-Ray device to the internet. However it isn't wireless. I was told I could use an Airport Extreme to bridge to my WRT160N. What I want to do is hardwire connect my Blu-Ray player and perhaps my iMac to the Airport Extreme using my WRT160n's access to the cable modem. Basically I'm trying to make to wirelss routers talk to each other. I can't seem to make the Airport Extreme work. Any assistance would be great.

Unfortunately, this is not correct. The AirPort Extreme does not have the capability that you need. If you could connect the Linksys and Extreme together using an ethernet cable, it would function as you wish. Or, if it's not possible to connect them using an ethernet cable, you might take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the AC wiring in your home.

Will this Airport Extreme work with iPod Touch?

I just received an Apple iPod Touch (32gb, 3rd gen.) for Christmas.
I've always been a PC user, so I don't know much about Apple products.
I'd like to get an inexpensive wireless router to use with it.
I'd like to be able to surf the web, get e-mail, watch Hulu, and listen to
internet radio stations. I use Time-Warner broadband (Road Runner) and I have been able to do all of the above with my cabled PC.
I've been looking at: Airport Extreme Base Station M8799LL/A Model No. A1034. It looks like a flying saucer. Since Road Runner download speeds for my PC are around 2.5mps and this Airport Extreme can handle up to 54mps, is it safe to assume it will work with the iPod Touch?
If anyone has a moment and would jot down their thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it! If it won't work, and you could suggest some inexpensive wireless routers, that would be great as well!

Yes. I use a similar flying saucer Airport Extreme 802.11g (54mps) base station with my 2g iPod Touch 32GB.
In theory, you should be able to use any 802.11b or 802.11g WiFi base station with the iPod Touch.

Airport extrem working with expresses to create a powerful network, but how

I have one extreme base station and 3 expresses in a 3 story house with a basement. My network base is on the 3rd floor and I want the base station to link from that one to others to boost the signal. I thought I had it all set but am not getting good signal at all. Oh and I have 8 total computers: 4 pcs, 1 Powerbook G4, 2 Imac Intels, 1 Macmini intel.
3 Pcs are hard wired the other wireless and all the Macs are wireless.
There is a dlink systeme set up that was implace before and used for wireless but with the new Macs im switching to Airports. Should I git rid of the Dlink wireless router?

You will need to replace the D-Link with the Airport Extreme.
Step 1
Configure the Airport Extreme so it is working as a single wireless router - do not touch the WDS tab in other words where it was before you started.
For ease use a new network name and security.
If necessary do a reset.
Wait ten minutes
Step 2
Factory reset the Airport Express.
Plug the Airport Express in.
On your Mac remain connected to the Airport Extreme wireless network.
Run the Airport Assistant say that you want to configure a new base station.
It should find the Airport Express and ask you some questions, confirm that you want to extend the network of the Extreme network, in other words extend an existing network.
Once it has configured both Airports.
Wait ten minutes.
Repeat Step 2 for each of the remaining Airport Express units.
You may want to reconfigure the middle Airport Express as a relay unit instead of a remote unit.
You are good to go.

Airport Extreme working with video chat

Has anyone else had any problems doing iChat's video chat through an Airport Extreme? I used to be able to video chat fine through my wired LAN, but when I set up the Airport Extreme connected to the wired LAN, it will allow me to connect through a video chat but it only shows my camera view, no sound or picture from my buddy, and iChat thinks it's doing a video chat just fine. Anyone else had this problem? Are there ports I need to fix?

I take it you are connecting to the internet via a router of some kind. You have then attached the Airport to the router to gain wireless internet access. If this is the case you need to make sure you have the Airport Extreme configured as a bridge otherwise you have a situation known as double NAT. NAT is a method used to share a single connection with multiple computers and works as a rudimentary firewall. iChat AV has a hard enough time dealing with a single NAT but if you have NAT on your AIrport and your router it is going to fail.

Hi Everyone. I hope this post will be helpful because I have been very frustrated with apple and their customer support and I figured this out on my own by reading all of the discussions and playing with my settings but it took me a while...
I recently for school bought all apple products and I have non-mac products as well. I bought the airport extreme believing I could hook up all of my computers through it and share the printers and my mybook external hard drive with my husbands desktop and the other lap tops. Unfortunately this was not as easy as advertised...
I was not able to successfully have both computers stay connected to the printers so I have to have mine for my laptop connected via the airport extreme and my husband has his desktop connected to a different printer via a ethernet cable. It would work at set up and then a few hours later not print anymore and reinstalling the drivers just confused it... if anyone knows a solution for this please let me know. It worked wirelessly for me but not for him.
As far as the external drive for the airport extreme goes I went and bought an additional USB port hub so I could access my printer wirelessly and my external hard drive as well for time machine back ups.
I set up my external hard drive so that it will save files from both a mac and a non-mac computer and we can both access it (not sure if that matters in the solution or problem for others); however, the desktop (non-mac) was able to by clicking and dragging files to it assess the hard drive and utilize it and my macbook was not able to because the airport extreme showed the drive under disks but when I tried to access it through time machine it was not there. I played with this for a long time and finally figured it out.
I believe I went under finder, then chose go from the menu bar, then chose connect to server and the default for it is afp://10.0.1.1.. You enter this in under server address and you may be prompted to give your password. The password was tricky as well because it showed my computers user name and I thought it would want that password but instead it wanted the password to log into my internet or my airport extreme's password. Once I put this in I was able to open my time machine preferences, finally choose the mybook external hard drive that was now showing up, choose it and my computer is currently doing a back up as I type without the error message of failed, unable to locate volume, or any others.

Seems to me you should have done your homework setting up your network and not assuming that any third party device you choose to use would work without problems.

Will Airport express work with tivo

I would like to get program content up dates through my airport express. i get itunes to my stereo no problems. Can I get program content the same way. I only airport in my imac. thanks for help with this issue.

In the back of the Tivo you have a USB port, which you can hook up either a USB wi-fi dongle or a USB to Ethernet convertor.
Price wise, you are probably just as well off getting a USB wi-fi dongle, as the adapters aren't that cheap, and you have some flexibility of where you put your Tivo.
Also if I remember correctly, you have to have the AE operating in WDS to enable the Ethernet port, i.e. you need a second AE or an Airport Extreme (Or one of a few other routers that run WDS).

Airport Extreme working with iMac but not with Windows 7 Laptop!

My iMac (OSX 10.5.8) has been working fine with my Airport Extreme, but a new member of our household cannot connect wirelessly with their Windown 7 Laptop. The PC can see the wireless name for our household and says it is connected to it, but there is a problem actually connecting to the internet. Has anyone experienced similar problems? We are at a loss as to what to do. Applecare were no help (despite forking out for the advanced applecare warranty) and both Mac and PC service providers blame each other. Any advice would be much appreicated. Surely the Airport Extreme can talk simultaneously to PC and Mac wireless computers?

I have had the same issue. Airplay working with all devices apart from one windows 7 (the actual media server) and have spent over a week trying to resolve it.
This worked for me.
Turn off windows firewall and in my instance macafee. Be warned while macafee says that it's off there are services running all the time.
You will need to open macafee settings and turn off access protection first
Then search services from start bar
Open services and filter by manufacturer
Stoop all macafee services
Right click the start bar
Open task manager
Stop all macafee processes
Try your airport utility you should now see your express
If you can you will see your icon in iTunes
This pores that it's likely to be a macafee issues. Of course you do not want to leave the firewall off so I installed macafee and installed a fresh copy turning both the windows and macafee firewall on with no resultant issues

It will accept AC input voltages between 100 and 240 AC, 50 to 60 HZ. All you will need is an adapter plug to interface between the US plug and the Euro/Greece wall socket. These adapter plugs are low cost.
