Will all disk utilities work on a SSD?
Have installed two SSD's in my mid 2012 Mac Pro.
Will Disk Warrior and Apple Disk Utility work on these drives?
Are both safe for SSD's?

Erase free space in Disk Utilities grayed out for SSD
Is it normal that this function (erase free space) does not work for a SSD? It is grayed out on my iMac for SSD not for the 1 TB HDD.
Now that I installed Lion and Trim is working (on original Apple SSD) in my iMac I would like to erase free space. I read somewhere that you should do this if you did not have the Trim option before and you do have it now. Or is this BS?

Will iDVD Disk Image work for creating DVD's on PC
I created a disk image of video that I have made DVD's from. I want to send the disk image to friends to create DVD's but they have PC's. Is there a way for them to use that disk image to make CD's? What programs would they use? etc.

Welcome to apple discussions. The good news is that a disc image burned through iDvd is identical in content to the finished dvd. So if your friend can use the video_ts folder to create a new dvd (on his choice of PC Dvd burning software) then there shouldn't be a problem. At worst you may have to first provide him/her with a burned iDvd rather than the disc image (depending on weather or not s/he can read said image on a PC).
I personally use Roxio Toast to burn the disc image to Dvd-R. And Roxio also make a PC version of this software called Roxio Creator. Although I've read the PC version for Windows Vista isn't nearly as good as the Mac version. (why I don't know).

Most folks who run Windows Vista / burn Dvd's on a pc do not necessarily use Roxio products as opposed to Nero or CDBurnerXP (and there are other alternatives also listed below for the PC).

I have received a software update notification. Currently I am having an iPhone 4 with IOS 5.1.1 installed. It works fin but at some point after i attend some call it gets blank, then i need to lock the screen & unlock it to get the home page. You will lose Google Maps and YouTube, but there is a YouTube app in the App Store. Supposedly Google is readying a Google Maps app.
Downgrading can be problematic and is not supported by Apple. Do not upgrade if you have a problem with any of the items I listed. -
Carbon Cloner, SuperDuper and disk utilities
Hey all..
I'm trying to clone my current HDD to the new one.
1) In carbon cloner, I can only select one partition. If I select the mac parition, will that also clone the windows (on bootcamp) partition?
2) SuperDuper doesn't have clone option, but it has "back up all files" option, is that what creates clone? Plus, windows partition is not visible in SuperDuper, does that mean once i clone the mac drive i'll be also cloning the windows partition?
3) i'm going to install windows vista, i already found website telling me how to do it. but i'll lose the data on windows xp partition, will the disk utilities image creator help me save the data on the windows xp partition? (including all files, programs and settings).1. CCC will not clone a Windows partition.
2. SD's Backup All Files is the cloning function. It also does not backup Windows partitions.
3. Rather than erase XP you can upgrade it to Vista.
4. Disk Utility's Restore option will clone a Windows partition. However, I have no idea if the clone is usable by Windows unless the backup volume's format is MS-DOS (can't be NTFS because it isn't writable by OS X.)
To backup your Windows partition either boot into Windows and use Windows backup software or use the freeware Winclone - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. -
[Very Urgent] Prepaid plan on iphone - will apps, web, data work normally?
Hi, I am keen on getting a prepaid plan.
I am very frustrated with ATT and T-Mobile because they need me to unlock my iphone in order to use web and data access. If I don't, I can only use calls and text on the iphone. If I get an iphone 5, get it unlocked and place a prepaid SIM card into it, will all the apps work normally? Can I buy the ATT prepaid plan? If not, which carrier should I get?

I'm seriously considering picking up my first Mac. I was really interested in the iMac, but I feel that it's just too expensive for me at this time. So, now I'm looking at the Mac Mini. Again, price appears to be an issue.
After looking at Apple's store, it has come to my attention that the cheapest monitor they sell is $800. In that case, I'd be better off buying the iMac.

Will all monitors that work for PCs work on Macs? Do I need a special kind of port to make it work?most all computer monitors will work with the mini, but i'm sure there are a few exceptions.
use the DVI to VGA adapter if a non-DVI monitor.
for the really old monitors that have BNC or 13W3 connectors, there are options for those too.
i looked on newegg.com for you and found a widescreen 21" Samsung for $499.99 that has VGA + DVI, plus it also composite, S-Video, and component inputs (for VCR, XBOX, PS2, cable/satellite boxes, camcorder, etc... to really save space and double as a TV)

you can see that i suggested widescreen models, as I think this is THE form factor for all future UI and media and monitors that had DVI, since it is a "feature" that is almost standard now and worth it performance wise. -

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -
my macbook wont start the screen turn blue and stay like that for hrs. It only work when i use safe mode, i try to use disk utilities to fix it but the disk utilities keep saying error and a bunch of other stuff. My external hard drive will not open and only shows up in Disk Utilities. When I try yo repair it, it give me and error of invalid sibling link. How do I fix my external hard drive?
Invalid sibling link may not be fixable by Disk Utility. (Disk Utility is very conservative, and will not attempt repairs that might cause you to lose data.)
It is an indication of serious Directory damage.
that leaves
a) third-party Utilities that will take those risks, or
b) re-initializing the drive (which deletes all your data) and restoring from another backup source.
c) "Copying off whatever files you can salvage" has gone by, and you cannot copy anything off a drive that will not mount. You may be able to use "rescue" programs such as prosoft engineering Data Rescue to copy files to another drive, but that sounds a lot better than its reality. You may get many files, but not get ANY filenames. -
I've been working on a drawing for awhile and a little error message popped up saying my scratch disks are full. I've tried multiple things but I apparently need to restart Photoshop for those things to kick in. I can't restart it as almost all of my work will be gone. Any help is appreciated.
You can purge the swap files etc. from the Edit menu. Try that. Otherwise there is simply no way to salvage the situation once PS runs out of memory, virtual and real one...

Disk full, can't empty trash, recovery disk utilities doesn't work
Ok I am having some real problems and hope someone here can help me out?!? I am getting a start up drive full message, tried emptying my trash and getting " error code -36" , tried verifying disk in utilities and got that I needed to run recovery disk utilities due to corrupt files, but when trying "Command ker & R Restart" just getting a full disk message after Apple Emblem. And not able to run the utility...any suggestions? THANKS!
If you can get the machine to start you will need to move large libraries to an external HD. OS X likes to have 10-15% of the HD available at all times! What libraries I would recommend targeting are your photographs (iPhoto), music (iTunes) and movies (iMovie). Apple provides instructions for how to move those libraries, you can find the links by Googling

Good luck! If you cannot boot the computer you will need to boot from to the recovery partition (hold down the Option key when you hear the startup tone) and use terminal to move the files. -
Applications on my iMac OS 7.1 keeps shutting down immediately when I try to open.

Try booting up to Safe Boot and see if you still have this issue in "safe mode." This will help you determine if the issue is caused by 3rd part sofware, or some other type of OS corruption. -
My Mac keeps starting up to the disk utilities screen. Im guessing i need to repair the disk or load my backed up memory but i am unsure of how to do that. I have all my memory backed up on an external hard drive.
The Disk Utility screen has instructions right on it.
Just read them and follow the directions.

It opens with something like, "select a disk, volume, or image".
You click on your drive in the left column, top item.
The next screen spells out how to do a ( Repair Disk ).
You have a Macintosh. It will not cut your hand off.
If something dangerous is coming, it will say stuff like, "this will erase all the data on your drive. Do you want to proceed?" -

I've recently purchased the Linksys WRT160N however after purchase "of course"I manage to find reviews stating that the router will not work with the WindowsVista Premium, or windows Vista for that matter.

ThanksIt should work with vista without any issues if you are running any software on the computers (64 bit) from linksys it may not work but if you will connect that computer with an ethernet to the router it should work fine.
