Will all my data be erased is I update my iPod 4 to generation 6?

I have an iPod touch 4th generation. I want to update it to generation 6, but I heard I will lose all my data. I have over $50 worth on some apps. Is this (the data erasing) true?

If you are using the ipod as designed and syncing it to your computer regularly, then you will lose nothing.
Everything on your ipod should always be on your computer, especially before any upodate/restore/etc

Follow these instructions. When you restore the iPod from backup as the article says your iPod will also be updated.

  • When I upgrade from OS10.5.8 to Snow Leopard will all my data transfer.  If I need to back up what is the best way to do this?

I plan to upgrade from OS10.5.8 to Snow Leopard. Will all my data, applications and settings transfer automatically?
If I need to back up what is the best way to do this?

If everything works perfectly, your data should not be touched.
Personally I never trust my data to everything working perfectly.
I always backup everything twice at least.

  • If I put an app in the trash so I can redownload it on the correct apple account, will all the data be lost?

If I put an app in the trash so I can redownload it on the correct apple account, will all the data be lost? The app is iPhoto and I can't open it since I updated my system to yosemite.

You choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Pictures/ as the path(or elsewhere if you moved the library), and drag the library to a volume formatted as Mac OS Extended.

i synced my ipod and all my data got erased
    wat shud i do?

You need to unsync them from your iPod. Plug it in, go to iTunes, Press your iPod on the screen, either in the sidebar or in the top bar, and check unsync photos. That's the only way to delete those.

  • Computer crashed ! Will all iPhone data be transferred to new empty iTunes ?

    Title says it all:
My computer crashed, so will all the data (music, books, pictures, apps, data inside apps, folder organisation, apps' logins and passwords, ) currently inside my iPhone be transferred to the new empty iTunes ?
I don't care about Notes and Contacts which are synced to iCloud.
Or will the empty new iTunes empty my iPhone ?

Sorry but you know nothing about my story and what happened with my computer so please don't barge in with wrong conclusions and make a fool of yourself.
Fortunately there are helpful people around such as wjosten to hep and not judge.
Not to mention saying things such as "It's also counterintuitive to believe that a cell phone is a backup device."
Who believes that ? Who are you talking to ? Certainly not me. As it's exactly the opposite: originally sync has been created to back up your device on a computer. The computer is the back up, not the device. And when your back-up fails anybody expects to be able to copy ALL your data simply from the original drive to another back-up drive.
Apple's one-way-only method is ABSOLUTELY counter-intuitive, you will find coultless topics on the internet of people not getting it and having issues with this and software such as Phoneview, DiskAid, IExplorer, etc... being created by third-parties to compensate Apple's weaknesses.
Just another example : I would be happy to know why they had to wait "the Third Millennium, over 30 years since the first consumer-oriented computer became available" to add the ability to sync contacts and calendars between a Mac and iOS device via USB connection, available only now since OSX 10.9.3 !!...
Apple has certainly made historically good choices over the years, but no matter how difficult it is to admit for some people it also has made and stuck to other very poor choices. And this is one of them, right there...

  • When IOS5 is ready to install , will all my data disappear ?

I have an Ipad 2 , with the latest IOS 4.3.3 .. When IOS 5 is ready to install on ipad2 & to be upgraded on my ipad , will all my data ( apps , images & etc ) will disappear ?
    Thanks

I lost all my apps and all my data, including email messages.  I do backup my apps but since the iOS updates said it was restoring my iPad I thought it restored my apps and data as well.
Wrong.  It only restores standard iPad apps and their data, it doesn't even restore iBooks.  What a stupid software update!  I don't know why it doesn't automatically restore the other apps and data but it should at least throw up a dialog box to ask you if you want to restore your purchased apps and their data.
The other ridiculous thing about it is that you never have to restore apps when you update MacOS so why does iOS need to wipe the whole system and files to update?  Seems to me iOS developers are not trying hard enough.
This whole experience is really putting me off.

  • I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1 and my Photos, Videos, contacts, music, App data, etc. was deleted. How can I all the data back?

I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1. I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on a Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack 3 installed on the Windows XP (which I believe is the latest version). After updating, I unplugged my iPod from the computer. I saw that all my photos and videos were on my iPod, but there were no apps. A window popped up and told me to enter a passcode for my iPod. I entered a passcode. I then locked my iPod and entered what I thought to be the correct passcode, but my iPod remained unlocked. Desperate, I tried many passcodes with failure. After a while, my iPod became disabled for a long time. I decided to reset my iPod. After I reseted it, I chose to reset from my earlier back up. After reseting, my computer loaded on all my apps. But, when I started using my iPod, I realized all my photos, videos, music, app data (like game saves and high scores), etc. were gone! I have no idea what to do and I am very stressed about this! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET ALL MY STUFF BACK!!!!!!

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • How do I erase a song from my ipod shuffle 4th generation

How do I erase a song from my ipod shuffle 4tg generation? I didn,t get any instuctions with mine.

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
In order to remove songs from an iPod you must plug it into the computer it was originally synchronizing with and de-select the songs you no longer wish to have on the iPod. If you no longer have access to that computer then I would plug it into your current computer and restore the iPod. This will remove all the songs from the device but you will be able to just move the songs you wish to store on the device back over.

  • I just recently updated my iPod Nano 7th Generation, and, after the upgrade finished, my iTunes library, playlists and all, vanished. How can I restore the playlists and songs to iTunes?

I updated my iPod Nano 7th Generation, and it wiped my iTunes library. I no longer have my playlists or movies. I was able to recover my music, but the many, many playlists I had, I could not recover. Is there any way I could recover them?

    Hello apbvieira,
It sounds like your iPod Nano is not recognized in iTunes anymore after a recent update. I recommend the following article to help you get that in order named:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
If you haven't already done so, use the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant that applies to your iPod. This will often solve your issue.
If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Note: To determine if your iPod syncs via USB or FireWire, check the table in the Additional Information section below.
This step will get you started, but there are additional steps in the article if you need them.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

Hi all i won't update my iPod touch 4 generation to ios 5 but there are win the download end its showing a massage (the network connection timed out)

Okay. I've tried syncing it first, resetting it first, downloading the firmware, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, I've checked my connections and ports and everything, run all kinds of diagnostics, and nothing is working. Every time it says it's backing it up, my iPod resets and then it's back to square one. I'm going to restore it and see if that helps. What a pain in the butt, especially since it wouldn't back it up.... >.<

  • Will the hard disk be erase when I update to Lion

Will my document be erased when I update to Lion?

No. Your user accounts will be maintained.
HOWEVER, that doesn't mean you shouldn't backup first, in case anything goes wrong (and if you don't backup and things don't work out as intended, you've only yourself to blame!).
