Will all photos in iphoto on my mac be synced with icloud photo library?

I enabled the "Icloud Photo Library" (beta) just now, and I have lots and lots of photos in "photos" in Iphoto.
Will these be uploaded and backed up in that cloud? So if i would lose my computer, would they still be up there?
If not, is this an option that will be created in some future?
(Thats right, i don't know how to google)
Thanks you!

No photos from your Mac will be uploaded anywhere at this time. iPhoto does not use the iCloud photo library at all. It's only available on the photos app on your iOS device. When iPhoto is replaced with Photos for Mac, sometime in 2015, then we will know what features are available.
But right now, if your computer is stolen you will lose everything.
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • PS Elements/Organizer 11 sync with iCloud Photo Share

i have Photoshop Elements 11 suite on a PC win8. I wanted help in setting up my organizer so everytime I download pictures from my camera/card reader into organizer library, it would sync with icloud photo share. This is a functionality that iPhoto has that I just transitioned from. Since my wife and I take pictures on our iPhones, iPads and other cameras with SD card, the latter photos don't get to be part of the latest taken (not shown on icloud photo share) and we miss out on them when viewing the latest consolidate photos we take. I think I understand the watch folder in Organizer which I set to photo share folder of the icloud app's picture designated folder, but don't know how to set up the upload from organizer to icloud. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a great question.  I've been using Photoshop Elements/Organizer (and PS Album before that) for many years and now more recently iCloud.  I also am interested in consolidating these collections.  I don't think there is any way yet to easily synchronize these, but with iCloud Beta you can easily upload photos in a PSE catalog into iCloud by simply selecting and dragging (I find it necessary to first drag/copy them into a temp folder on my desktop, and then upload them into iCloud using the iCloud Beta upload button).  After this full resolution photos will appear in iCloud and on your iPhone and other devices.  One problem I've discovered though with turns out to be a real headache, is the dates.  The date the photo was taken is not read properly by the iPhone Photo app and so the photo will appear to have an incorrect date.  I don't know why this is happening, but it seems to be a problem with how iCloud Beta is importing the JPG file.  I wish Apple would solve this.  If anyone else has found this problem and a solution, I'd like to know.  Anyway, I hope this answer helps.

  • Mac not synced with iCloud (iPad/iphone)

Nothing is synced with the new install of ML.  I've updated apps, made sure i'm signed in icloud but i can't seem to get anything to work.
EX: when i click on the cloud icon near the address bar, it just says that it will show open tabs on other iOS devices.  i have open windows, but it doesn't work
Also, Pages is fully updated, but when i make a change on my mac, it will not show up on my ipad.
any suggestions?  what did i miss?
    thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that notes syncing (mail and notes on a computer) is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the notes you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone'  or other non iCloud account (you can do this by checking in accounts on an iOS device, or the left side panel in mail on a computer), non iCloud notes will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your notes are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking notes syncing (mail and notes on a computer) in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling notes syncing.

  • Photo's not syncing with iCloud photo library from and to iPhone

Photo synchronization stopped working from and to my iPhone 6.
Currently new photo's taken on my phone aren't uploaded to the iCloud photo library and new photo's uploaded from my mac to the iCloud library aren't showing up on my iphone. I still have enough space available on iCloud.
It worked fine until two weeks ago.
Any suggestions how this issue can be resolved?
    Thanks,
    Koen

My process was turning on iCloud Photo Library on my imac only at first and uploaded my 70,000 pics which took about 2 weeks (did much of it at night). After it was done I turned it on my three devices at the same time (iphone 6, iPhone 6+ and iPad 2). The download to the devices (eg thumbnails) took about another week and it seemed to work largely fine until recently. It doesn't however really work on my iPad 2, but it's so old I'm not too surprised.
My only issue now (hopefully) is the response time on the 6+ which seems quite slow. Good luck and I would try to turn it on and see what happens. But be patient, at first it takes quite some time.

  • Why can't I edit or delete Address Book "On My Mac" or sync with iCloud?

Why can't I edit or delete Address Book cards on my Macs, now that I've migrated to iCloud?  I can edit/delete if I go to iCloud, but the changes don't sync with my Macs.  What's happening, and what's a solution?  Just wait for Apple to fix a bug?

On your mac, if your look at the left panel of the Address Book, you'll find general categories of "iCloud" and possibly "On my mac" - if you have contacts in the latter, then they are only local to your mac, they are not shared with iCloud.  If you don't have an "iCloud" category, then your mac(s) is not set up of iCloud.  Go to system preferences and look in iCloud.  Is the mac signed into iCloud, are contacts turned on for syncing?

  • I want to move photos from iPhoto to my Iphone without syncing my iphone photos to my Mac

    Hello,
I want to copy photos on my computer in iPhoto to my iphone without transfering the pictures on my phone to my computer.  I believe that the syncing feature in itunes will download the photos into itunes as well as upload the photos I've selected.  In summary:
Photos from computer to phone:  Good
photos from phone to computer:  Bad
Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks.

I want to copy photos on my computer in iPhoto to my iphone without transfering the pictures on my phone to my computer.
    Simple.
Once iPhoto opens, don't import anything..
    Just quit the iPhoto application.
I believe that the syncing feature in itunes will download the photos into itunes
iTunes does not download photos from the phone or into iTunes.
iPhoto imports them if you tell it to.

  • Why are my key photos of my events in iphoto on the mac not syncing with my iphone and ipad?

    anyone?

Since iPhoto can handle 1,000,000 photos probably not
a wild guess is event sort - view menu ==> sort event
If you give us some details we can help - what version of iPhoto and of the OS? How much free space do you have on your hard drive?
what exactly are you seeing happen? any error messages? any recent changes?

  • Ipad and mac not syncing with icloud

I am unable to sync my photos and contacts from my ipad with my Mac through icloud. The ipad and mac both have the latest update.

For icloud email on your device, you must have icloud turned on, but also have the Mail app set up to connect to icloud.  In Settings>Mail, Contacts,...  look in the Mail section under Accounts.  You must set up your icloud email account there in order to use the Mail app to read and send emails.

  • Numbers Mac not syncing with iCloud (file status Waiting)

    Anyone else having this problem?
Created a new document in Numbers on my MBP. Saved to iCloud but the status remains as 'Waiting'.
I've unchecked and checked documents in the System Preferences/iCloud to try to reset but no joy. Don't seem to be able to force an update and it's definitely not showing up in iCloud (web or on my phone).
    Give up or persist?
    Thanks

I am having the same problem on my iMac.  It was suggested to me to switch from my wired connection to my wireless connection.
When I did that, all of my documents became synced!
Just to make sure that my wired connection isn't blocking iCloud traffic, I switched back to my wired connection and everything works fine.
If, however, I restart the computer or log out, I have to do the whole process again. (Switch from wired to wireless and then back to wired.)
I am chalking this up to a .0 release.  Maybe this will be addressed in 10.8.1.

  • How do I get the contacts from my mac to syn with icloud? I need to back up my phone and don't want to lose my contacts when I get a new phone.

How do I get the contacts from my mac to sync with Icloud? I need to back up my phone since I will be receiving a new one tomorrow and the icloud contacts are not the same as the ones on my mac.  Help me

OS X Lion. 10.7. Your profile says your running 10.6.8, which is Snow Leopard. You need 10.7 to use iCloud with your Mac.

  • Does iPhoto 9.6 work with iCloud Photo Library at all?

I have iOs 8.1, but I have not enabled iCloud Drive or iCloud Photo Library yet, and I have not updated to Yosemite yet. I don't want to activate those until I know how photos between thee mac and iPhone will work after they are enabled.
Does iPhoto 9.6 interact at all with iCloud Photo Library? Does it even "see" iCPL photos similar to PhotoStream? Can it import from there? Do any of the crops and edits come through in iPhoto from the iOS photos app (whether imported from the iCPL or even via direct d/l from the phone via usb?

So what are you guys doing to manage your photos until the OSX Photos app come out? Just not using iCloud Photo Library at all I assume?
Can you use iCloud photo library but still manually import photos into iPhoto from USB import?
You can view your iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and download from iCloud Photo Library (Beta) at https://beta.icloud.com  or https://www.icloud.com  on your Mac, if you click the "Photos" icon. Click the "?" mark, to view the help for "Photos". But you cannot yet upload directly from your Mac to this library, even if the iCloud Photos Help is saying otherwise.
You can download to your mac from your devices using USB, but with iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled on your iPad or iPhone, you can no longer sync photos to them using iTunes Photo sync. So it is hard to get any photos onto your devices at the moment, other than using Photo Stream. To upload  photos to your iPad/iPhone using iTunes you have to disable iCloud Photo Library. And the synced photos will be erased, when you enable iCloud Photo Library again.

  • How do I transfer photos in iPhoto from my Mac Book to my iMac?

How do I transfer photos in iPhoto from my Mac Book to my iMac?

Depends on exactly what you want to transfer:
The Original files: Export from iPhoto on the MacBook (File -> Export, set the kind to Original) and copy the files to the iMac. Then import to the Library on the iMac
The Edited files: Export from iPhoto on the MacBook (File -> Export, set the kind to Jpeg or tiff, note the options for adding metadata to the export) and copy the files to the iMac. Then import to the Library on the iMac
Both and all the Metadata: Link the two Macs together and use  iPhoto Library Manager

  • My iPhone was stolen last night and I'm trying to recover all my photos from that phone and get them on my mac laptop. The iCloud photo stream only imported 1,000 photos from my stolen phone. How can I retrieve all of my other photos?

my iPhone was stolen last night and I'm trying to recover all my photos from that phone and get them on my mac laptop. The iCloud photo stream only imported 1,000 photos from my stolen phone. How can I retrieve all of my other photos?

You have to reset the device to Factory Settings in order to restore it from an iCloud backup. You probably want to back it up as is before you do this.
To do the reset after you have backed up the current device, go to Settings>Reset>Reset all Content & Settings. This will erase the device. If you are signed onto iCloud with Find My iPhone turned on, go to Settings>iCloud and scroll to the bottom to sign out of iCloud before you do the reset.
Once you have reset your device, you will set it up like a new phone. When it asks if you want to restore it from an iCloud backup, select the backup you want to restore it from.
    Cheers,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, when you are going to turn off or restart your Mac, you will see a box called "Reopen windows when logging back in" in the shutdown or restart window. Untick this box and see if the App Store opens automatically in the next startup.
If it starts, open System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items, and see if the App Store shows up. If so, remove it from this list
