Will amendments be lost if fonts are missing until I can purchase the new font?

Hi There, We have a document produced by an outside design agency using fonts that we do not own.  We need to make many amendments to the document and want to start these now before our very lengthy procurement process provides us with the missing font which is Interstate (it is not a Typekit font as far as I can see). We have a very tight deadline for the document is needed so if we make amendments in the highlighted missing font text and when the purchase is made make the substitution?  Any help or advice gratefully received !!
Thanks from Janet

Don’t change anything as far as styles or assigned fonts. Let InDesign do the substitution.
When you open the file on a machine that does have the font, it will automatically work.
Be aware that while you can easily do the edits that under no circumstance should you attempt to anything else such as adjust kerning, tracking or the like since you’re not dealing with the final font. You may also find that copyfit is going to be off as well.
