Will an Att Iphone 5 work in the UK with a UK sim card

Will an Att Iphone 5 with a UK sim card work in Scotland.
I don't want to unlock or jailbreak my phone either.
Thanks

How do you "officially unlock" a phone.
Does that change the warranty.
Does unlocking change EVERYTHING like jailbreaking it does.
Do I have to reload everything on my phone.

  • Would an unlocked iphone bought in the usa work in the uk with a uk sim card

I am looking to buy an unlocked iphone 4s on my next trip to the usa and was wondering if it would work back in the uk with a uk sim card?

If it is truly unlocked, yes. Note, though, that you would get no warranty or other support for a US-sold iPhone in the UK. Should it ever need service, you'd have to send the iPhone to someone you know in the US to get it serviced. So think hard before you decide to purchase a US iPhone.

  •  Will an unlocked iPhone 5 work on the Verizon network?

Will an unlocked iPhone 5 work on the Verizon network? I know this question is probably premature, I don't think apple has mentioned anything about it yet, but I saw that past unlocked iPhones (4 and 4S) would not work on Verizon. I'm a Verizon customer and I want to keep my unlimited data plan, the only way to do this is buy a iPhone at retail, but from what I saw regarding the 4 and 4S I may not be able to do this. I did read that the iPhone 4S is being made in three distinctive models, 1 with a CDMA network and 2 others with varied GSM - LTE networks. I'm hoping this means that an unlocked iPhone 5S can now run on the Verizon network. Any ideas if I'm correct? Thanks.

Honestly I'm not convinced to jump to sprint so quickly. I am monitoring my data as it is, I'm a heavy data user as I watch a lot of movies from Netflix Hulu plus crackle etc. the flip side of this is that I do most of this on my iPad, which I have currently unlimited data on, so I can still get by without unlimited data on my cell, it's more of me not wanting to lose what I have. But thanks for all the info. I'm secretly hoping that apple has redone the unlocked iPhones but I wont lose any sleep over wishful thinking. I'm just quite anal I guess lol. Thanks again

I have an iphone 4 unlooked by AT&T with a TMobile sim card. Does anyone know if downloading this update will screw-up my phone?

In regards to the iPhone being officially unlocked by ATT thru Apple?
    No.
A problem arises when installing an iOS update on an iPhone that was hacked to be unlocked.

you need to contact the provider of your old phone and find out 1) if the provider unlocks phones and 2) what the procedure is to get the phone unlocked.

Can i use my iPhone from vodafone egypt in Qatar with a new SIM card from vodafone Qatar

No. Vodaphone Egypt and Vodaphone Qatar are two different carriers. They have the same parent company, but you can not use a phone locked to Vodafone Egypt with a Vodafone Qatar SIM.

  • Can I buy an iphone in the USA and use it in the UK with an o2 sim card?

I have just been re-issued an o2 pay monthly sim card as my phone was stolen. I'm going to NYC in September and was thinking of getting a iPhone in an apple store there. Will I be able to bring it home and use it in England with my o2 sim card? Or will I need to get it unlocked? Thank you

Thank you so much. This makes a lot of my sense. As my phone was stolen too, it probably makes sense to buy it in the UK and keep the reciept as i'm claiming on insurance ... I thought I might save money by getting it in the US, but actually you're right, after all the hassle and then the problems afterwards, probably best just to stick to the home country! Thank you.

I just bought a contact free iphone 6, and I want to give this as a gift to my friend in China. Can he use this iphone 6 with a GSM sim card? Thanks!

You'll have to check with the Chinese telephone company if they have nano sims and are configures with the same frequency of your iPhone.

  • I need to know if I buy an iPhone 5 or 5c in the US whether it will work in the UK with a PAYG sim

I am currently living in the USA but will be moving back to the UK next year. I am not familiar with US phones or network providers. I have done a little research re CDMA / GSM  / frequencies etc but am just confused!!!
I would like to buy my daughter an iPhone but would like her to be able to use it when we visit the UK on vacation or when we move back. Ideally I do not want to be tied to a contract here and would prefer PAYG but if thats not an option would possibly consider it.
Is this going to be possible?
If so What do I need to be looking out for?
In the UK it is quite simple...I would just buy an unlocked phone or have one of the UK carriers unlock it for me and then just use overseas with a PAYG sim but are the phones here sim free?
    Please help.
    Many thanks
    Jo

The answer is complicated. None of the major carriers offer PAYG service in the US, but if you buy a contract-free phone for full price you can get a plan that can be canceled at any time from any of the major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile). There are smaller resellers that offer PAYG service (StraightTalk, for example), but they are hard to deal with.
The most liberal is the GSM carrier T-Mobile. They have "unbundled" the phone from the service, so if you bring your own phone or pay full price for a phone the monthly cost will be lower.
The other 3 will charge you the same monthly cost whether you pay full price for the phone or get a subsidized phone.
Verizon iPhone 5 series phones are unlocked out of the box for international use (thanks to a condition the FCC imposed on Verizon when they were allowed to buy a substantial chunk of spectrum). They are the only phones sold in the US that will work on LTE bands in the UK and Europe.
Sprint is not a good choice, because they give you a hard time if you want to unlock your phone.
AT&T phones are locked, but they will unlock the phone if you pay full price or pay off your early termination fee. However, they will only work on GSM in the UK, not on LTE (4G).

  • Will a Canadian iPhone 6 work in the UK?

I currently live in the UK though I'm a Canadian. I have been looking at upgrading to a new phone as I currently have an unlocked Canadian iPhone 4s that I brought to the UK with me. I was hoping to upgrade to the 6, and thought buying in Canada might be less expensive overall as I am going home for a visit in a few weeks. This being said, I have read a lot of reviews saying that the UK is not very LTE friendly and often doesn't even support the 4G from the iPhone, because they are on different networks or something…I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to get the phone in Canada as it would be cheaper, and I may end up back in Canada within the next two years, meaning it might be more ideal to have a Canadian phone anyway. I just wanted to know if there is any other information I should know before making this decision.
    Thoughts?

I tried to understand that chart/table twice, and still don't fully understand how to decipher it really. It's a lot of jargon to me. This is what I've got from it so far….Can you let me know if I'm anywhere near the right track?
The Canadian LTE band compatible model (Model A1549) does not appear to be the same as the Model A1586 which appears to be the one that is compatible with UK bands. Does this mean that buying the A1549 would not work in the UK 4G bands and the A1586 would not work in Canada? There is a disclaimer on the A1586 however, saying that "Models A1586 and A1524 also support LTE networks listed for models A1549 and A1522." So it would be ideal to get the A1586 which should work on both sets of bands. Is this a correct assumption?
From what I found on this website. http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/ my carrier in the UK (Three), will work on the 800 MhZ, which is listed under both models. But I don't fully understand as I said earlier.
I understand that the warranty is not valid worldwide. This is not something that really worries me unless there are a considerable number of bugs within the iPhone 6. Is this the case? I have had my 4s for nearly 3 or 4 years now, and have not had to take it back for repairs or anything once. (knock on wood). I could likely easily send it to the apple store in canada for repairs and have my parents at home send it back to me in the UK when it was repaired.
I'm more concerned about whether it will work in both countries successfully to the best of its ability, or not.

  • Will a US Iphone 6 work in the UK

    guys,
i am travelling to new york from england, in early november and would like to take advantage of the exchange rate by purchasing an iphone 6.
i have checked the apple website, and noticed that they do an unlocked t mobile handset with a 16 gb memory for onlt $649
i have checked out the LTE page on the apple website and it suggests that model no's AS1586 should work, however the forums are a little confusing.
    May i ask,
will this phone work in the uk on a 3 network sim card that i already have ?
would the purchase be subject to any tax ?
would the us apple warranty be valid in the uk ?
    thanks for your time

If you live in the UK, then it is ridiculous to even consider purchasing an iPhone in the US - you will end up not saving a lot and you also have a phone with no warranty cover for the UK and one that will not work on the UK 4G networks either. DON'T DO IT.  If you live in the UK and you want an iPhone 6, then buy the iPhone 6 in the UK directly from the Apple store and NOT in the US.
The models are different between different countries and the US has networks that are not compatible, so yes, the phone will work, but not on 4G in the UK.  You will never be able to get that on a US purchased phone.
Yes, the phone will be subject to US sales tax and perhaps local taxes for the State you are in.  You may also find that you have to pay import duty at the airport to bring the phone into the UK, so at the end of the day you will probably save no money at all buy purchasing the phone in the UK.
No - iPhone warranty is NOT international so if you buy your phone in the US you will have no warranty cover for the UK - it would mean flying back to the US if you have a problem with your phone.
The US T-Mobile phone is not an unlocked phone, but sim/contract free.  People have said that if you do not activate the phone with the T-Mobile sim card, but use the sim card that you want to use, so a sim card from 3, then the phone will activate and remain unlocked, so don't activate with the T-Moible sim card, or the phone will lock to T-Mobile and you then need to contract them to get the phone unlocked - that is the difference between unlocked and sim/contract free.
If you live in the UK and want an iPhone 6 then buy it from an Apple store in the UK and you can buy a phone that is unlocked, that you will have EU warranty cover for and will be fully compatible with the UK 4G networks.
Can't really be clearer than that other than saying if you want to use the phone in the UK, then DO NOT buy it in the US.
