Will an eMac run Leopard 10.5?

My old eMac's specifications are below. I'm having some Tiger 10.4.11 system problems at the moment. Instead of trying to track them down I thought that upgrading to Leopard might be a better bet. Will be grateful for some advice!
Machine Name: eMac
Machine Model: PowerMac6,4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.42 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 768 MB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.9.2f1
Serial Number: YM*

Does installation of 10.5 overwrite all or any my current preference files etc?
Only if a problem occurs. Back them up first.

  • Running leopard on emac

Anyone having any success installing and running leopard 10.5 on a vintage emac (ATI) 1.0 GHZ machine?

Yes.  Seems to meet basic requirements. But I'm interested to learn of experiences others who are running 10.5 on a 1GHZ eMac are having.  Thanks.
10.5.8 will run on your model according to MacTracker.
Sure you want to know how well it runs, can't tell you that, but the bump helps.

  • My app will no longer run under Snow Leopard, runs fine under Lion.

My app will no longer run under Snow Leopard, even though it was originally written for Snow Leopard.  It runs fine on my Dev machine under Lion. But when I test it on my Snow Leopard Mac Mini the app starts but the window does not appear. Going to file, new window does nothing. My depolyment target is set to 10.6. Is there something I did to make my app lose Snow Leopard compatiblty?

Does your application use features only available in Lion?  Are you getting any console logs?

  • I have an emac running 10.5.8  I purchased snow leopard to upgrade. during the attempt to install, the computer says this is not an intel and is mot supported.  i think this is a power pc? am i stuck with this 10.5.8 version or is there away i can upgrade

I have an emac running 10.5.8  I purchased a copy of snow leopard from apple. upon attempting the install i read that the computer is not an intel. I believe this is a power PC?  Is there a way to upgrade to the snow leopard or am I stuck with this version 10.5.8?  Thank you for any help.

As Niel says, no way to go past 10.5.8 on your Mac, but there is a more upto date Browser...
TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions...

  • Getting new 8 core today - will it run Leopard?

My 2006 Mac Pro died today. I have 4 SATA drives in it's bays. One of the HD's has a Snow Leopard install and another has Leopard 10.5.8 on it. The other two have media files on them. I want to drop all 4 into the new Mac Pro and pull the one it comes with (for now)
Will I be able to option boot into my 10.5.8 HD like I did with my old Mac or will the new 8 core not let me run an OS lower than what it came with?
I'm a Pro Tools user under a deadline and it would be extremely convenient (I'm really under the gun at the moment) to just boot right into my Leopard drive and keep working!
    Thanks ahead of time!
    Dan-

My suggestion would be to get an older Mac that is capable of running Leopard in your case. The newer Mac is only going to cause you grief with your older software.

  • Will microsoft office for mac 2004 transfer from my emac running 10.4.11 to the new iMac running mountain lion using migration assistant?

will microsoft office for mac 2004 transfer from my emac running 10.4.11 to the new iMac running mountain lion using migration assistant?

Microsoft Office 2004 will not work on any Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion. You will need to upgrade to Office 2011, buy the less expensive iWork apps from the App Store or use a free office clone like OpenOffice or NeoOffice.

    Hi.
I'm guessing that you'r not buying a new edition of the Adobe Suite 5.5.
Apparently Adobe haven't been awake to make sure the 5.5 is 100% compatiable with Lion. However, I do believe it's only a few minor troubles you will experince and Adobe constantly update their software to adjust to Lion.
You should go to Adobe.com and see the list of known issues.
    Best regards.

  • Will the new MBP's run Leopard (10.5)?

I was trying to boot my i5 MacBook Pro with an external HD that has Leopard. I was able to select that HD for start-up. However, after the chime, it gets stuck at the apple logo and the computer gets very hot.
I'm thinking that the new MBP's don't like Leopard.

Will the new MBP's run Leopard (10.5)?
    No.

  • Will LE9 work on a PPC G5 running Leopard?

Will be getting a new iMac in a few weeks but was hoping to get the LE9 update and install it on my G5 running Leopard. Will it work?
    Thanks

I run LE9 on a G5 dual processor with Leopard and it is fine for me. There were updates that I wanted to load that required an Intel processor so be sure the version you use does not include such an update.

  • Will my 12" G4 PB 1.5ghz ,,, Run Leopard ?  Minimum system requirements ?

The Genius told me to wait for Leopard os X . Well I would like to know if I need a dual processor with an intel chip machine. Will it be retro compatible ?
    Thanks Hans K.
    powerbook g4 , superdrive , 700MB + ram   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

Yes your machine will run Leopard very well. I've used both retail and developer seeds since before the 10.0 public beta and every major Mac OS X update has increased performance on the same hardware. There have yet to be any negative comments (performance wise) about the current developer seeds.
In addition, the GPU in your machine supports Core Animation, so theoretically in many respects you should get a smoother experience.
Leopard is scheduled to be released by Spring 2007, so that's why you were probably advised to wait for an upgrade.

  • (URGENT) eMac with leopard running FCE 2?

I have an apple eMac running 10.5.8 and i got a great deal on FCE 2.0 i was wondering if this would work on the machine?

Yes, FCE 2 should run fine on an eMac with 10.5.8
If it were me, I'd prefer FCE 3 or 3.5 on your machine but if your deal is for FCE 2, you'll be fine.

  • My MacBook pro, 15 inch, 1.83 gh, 2gig ram won't run Leopard - Will yours??

Sorry to double post, but this question now relates to whether others with my MBP are having the same problem, or it is just my laptop. Also whether Apple knows about the problem so they can address it in future updates. I would really like to be able to run Leopard.
    Re: Dock crashes macbook pro
I have installed Leopard and its upgrade four times - one simple upgrade, one with archive install, and two erase and installs using two different install disks.I have zapped PRAM. When I touch the dock, I get odd video initially in area of cursor which spreads and progresses to a crash (freeze not panic). It happens in guest logon and with a fresh install without user setting restoration. This does not happen in safe boot mode. I reinstalled Tiger, and the problem appears to be fixed.
Ergo ipso facto - my hardware does not like Leopard, and I am left after 8-10 hours of mucking around with the joyful task of manually returning my backup apps and docs to my laptop. I am disappointed to say the least.
Any body else have this problem? Am I missing something?

Your post says "Re: Dock crashes macbook pro". Does this mean the Apple Dock or a 3rd party docking device? Admittedly I have a new machine but its working fine with Leopard. Maybe its your firmware version. Probably a good idea to take it to an Apple store.

  • Just Got a Power Mac G4 Dual 500, will it run leopard?

    Hi,
I just got a "new" power mac G4 system. Its a G4 Dual Processor 500 Mhz with 1 gig of RAM. I also got the matching 17" LCD apple studio display. I have it up and running nice with the latest version of tiger. I was wondering if its possible to run leopard on my machine. I want to keep tiger as my main OS, but i'd like to play with leopard on a second HD. Is this possible?
    thanks,
    -Allen

I think the "other methods" involves hacks, or basically ways to get the software to do things (viz. install) it was not intended to do (and probably violating the license). There's a fine line here because I have seen discussions in other parts of the forums on how to get things to installed or run on computers on which they were not intended to be installed. I think since hacks directly and blatantly circumvent the intentions of the Leopard installer (versus having it install on an external drive under the auspices of a qualified Mac fully using the software under conditions and in a manner in which it was intended to be used) it is deemed on the wrong side of the line.
Summary: No posting information on how to get around software licenses or Digital Rights Management.

  • Will Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 run Leopard?

I just bought a MacBook Pro and purchased Leopard (had to get the install disks since I bought the Macbook prior to Leopard release). I also have a 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 and need to know if I can load and run Leopard on it? It currently has OS 10.3.9 and would like to get it up to speed and in sync with my MacBook if possible . . . but am still confused about everything I see on in discussions as to whether or not this is possible. Help!
    Robin

The G4 can readily run Leopard. Here's the requirements:
    *Leopard Technical Requirements*

However, the license that came with your Leopard install DVD limits you to one Mac, unless you bought the family pack.

  • ATI Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition will not work with leopard

When I installed a new ATI Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition, 256MB; my Dual 2 GHz G5 (June 2004) will not allow me to drive my Apple Cinema Display while running under leopard, (neither 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 with Leopard Graphics Update).
The mac starts up as usual and gets to the white screen with Apple logo -then the progress ring eventually stalls. The mouse pointer becomes visible and can be moved freely around this screen.
I can connect from other macs on the network and navigate files, but screen sharing results in an all black window.
The Radeon 9600 works fine if I start up the mac with the Tiger installation disk.
I have tried every suggestion that I could find on these boards and elsewhere: zapped the pram, reset the SMU, installed older ATI Drivers, etc...
Of course the G5 is far out of warranty. I've been running Leopard since the day it shipped - so that's out of warranty now, and there is little help to be found on the ATI/AMD website. I'm afraid I'll have to return the card before Apple releases another graphics update.
The stock graphics card that came with this mac is the nVIDIA 64MB GeForce FX 5200 - but it's having trouble keeping up with Leopard's demands - my isight barely works, most special effects in iChat and PhotoBooth are unusable, and of course I'm not given the option to use a transparent menu bar,
I am really good at swapping video cards in the G5 now - but I'm so frustrated.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
    thanks
