Will an ethernet adapter work on an iMac?

I have tried on numerous occasions to connect my iMac to the internet via an ethernet connection but the following message appears: "Cable Unplugged".  I have given up on the ethernet port and would like to know if an ethernet adapter would work on an iMac.  All the information that I have read says that the ethernet adapter works on a Mac but nowhere does it mention the iMac.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to all of you.  Firstly, thanks for your input.  Good to be a part of the support community.  I went to my local Apple reseller store, explained the situation, and they recommended an ethernet to Thunderbolt adapter.  I took it home, installed it and, voila, I now have an (really fast) ethernet connection.  The gentlemen at the store told me that the adapter is not for transferring data, only internet access.  Please feel free to relay this information to anyone you know with an ethernet connection problem like the one I had.  Regards.

  • Running windows virtual. Will thunderbolt ethernet adapter work?

    Hi
I need to program SIEMENS PLC. I want to buy a mba but this program (step 7 tia portal) only runs on windows. so I want to run it in virtual mode (parallel or virtualbox vw ware fusion.. w/e). The older plc's can be programmed with a usb connection but this connection (usb) will work in windows virtual mode right?
but here's the deal, the newer plc's can ONLY be programmed with a internet connection. so I need to give my virtual windows 7 a static ip address before I can connect with my plc.
will these both connections work? I need to know before I buy one.. and everyone gives me different answers..
    thnx alot.
    ps: sorry for bad english

Here is a screen shot from VMware. This is accessible from the Settings ->  Network Adapter -> Network Adapter Settings...
If you click on the TB Ethernet, radio button (as highlighted by the box), it will prompt you for the Administrative password and then create a virtual bridge interface using this physical connection.

  • Will Apple's USB-Ethernet Adapter Work on iMac

One of the pins in the ethernet port of my iMac were bent. The second I attempted to bring the pin up, it broke. So I haven't been able to use ethernet for over a year.
Will the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter work on my Late 2006 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac? It is loaded with Leopard 10.5.5. I've read these adapters would only work for MBAir but will it work on my iMac?
I'm not looking to get back Gigabyte Ethernet capability, I generally want to use ethernet again.

I do have a Base Station the current base station.
All my stuff except my iMac & iBook is packed deep in a storage facility since I'm on a move to someplace else. Meanwhile I'm staying in a place that doesn't have Wi-FI but offers wired ethernet connection.
I have my iBook but I want to use my iMac again & that adapter is all I need to get it connected. I just want to know if it would work since it's intent is for the MacBook Air.

No. If you want a 2013 iMac with a VESA mount, you have to order it from Apple that way. Or consider this:

Well, there are different versions of Sata.  See:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Revisions
I think this is the info someone would need:
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the word hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz

Look around & see if you can find the bus speed for the SATA.

  • Does the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter work with a MacBook Air that's been updated to Lion?

I saw a comment at the online Apple store that the USB Ethernet Adapter didn't work with Lion. Anyone else have experience with the adapter?

Just point the tech rep to the apple website that lists the Ethernet to USB system requirements as:
    "Overview
The Apple USB Ethernet Adapter is a simple, one-piece external adapter that plugs into the USB 2.0 port of your MacBook Air to provide 10/100BASE-T performance. Simply plug your Ethernet cable into the RJ-45 connector — no external power is required. It’s small, light, easy to install, and even easier to use.

  • Will latest Media Player work on updated iMac 350?

I've bought a 120 gig Seagate 7200 speed HD, 512 megs more ram, and a retail version of Panther to upgrade my mom's iMac. For the most part she will only use Safari, Mail, & put a few digitial camera photos on it to view and store. However, she recently signed up for Netflix movie rentals and currently can't view the media player trailers in OS 9.1 - they don't offer Quicktime trailers (which I've contacted them and requested they please offer Quicktime trailers with no response from Netflix).
Will she be able to view them in Panther if she downloads media player? From the minimum system requirements (like a G3 with 400 or 450 mhz) it at first glance appears she again can't view them; however, the system requirements are "recommended" and I'm wondering with this faster HD and around 640 megs of memory that perhaps it's possible - especially since the Netflix previews are fairly low resolution. Comments/real user experiences with the recent versions of media player on such an older system would be much appreciated.

So you think that the latest Windows media player will work on the iMac 350, it just may stall sometimes.
I know the previous version of Media Player is still avaliable, would it work any better on older machines like the iMac 350?

  • How will Batman Arkham City work on my iMac 21.5 Late 2013?

Hi everybody, I have just bought an iMac for Christmas and I wanna know how will Batman Arkham City work on my computer. The especifications are this: 21.5, 2.7 i5, 8GB RAM and Iris Pro Graphics 1024 MB Late 2013. How will the game look compared with a PS3? And I am also worried because the are some people who say that gaming in an iMac like mines can damage it, is it true?
Thank You, and sorry for my English I am from Spain and I dont totally control the language.

According to a review written in Oct 2013, they cover several aspects of this year's iMac and go into graphics performance, where they said they tried a few tests and a few games. The game inquiry appeared to be given a satisfactory nod or affirmative here: http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/08/apple-imac-review-2013/ or coverage of recent specs here: http://www.macworld.co.uk/mac/reviews/?reviewid=3470461
Since I didn't  look into Mactracker for Late 2013 specs to see when that version shipped, the numbers may have changed if 'Late' model was available after the October 2013 date of their review.
There also are a few other incidents of that game in use on iMacs of later vintage, as per search results: https://www.google.com/#q=Batman+Arkham+City+in+iMac+2013+model
Hopefully the game & the new iMac works out well for you.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • MacMiniServer (late 2009): Will this HDMI adapter work?

I have a mac mini SNL server (late 2009) model.
Currently, I have it hooked up to my Samsung 42" DLP
via the mini display to vga adapter I bought the same day I got it,
and a cheap VGA cable I picked up at BestBuy for >$15.
But now, I'm thinking I should go with HDMI, simply because:
    a. the TV supports it, and
    b. The Cheap VGA cable doesn't screw into the adapter, and occasionally
while plugging in / out an iPod, the VGA cable will come loose
    from the adapter.
I'm looking at this adapter via NewerTech that is on sale right now at OWC.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/CBLMDPHDMI/
that, & a cheap HDMI cable ( >$12) at Walmart.
Would that work? What else might I need to do?

Yes, that cable combination will work.

  • Will USB power adapter work overseas?

The Apple Store says it works in US, Canada and Japan, etc., where they use two prong plugs. Will it work along with an Apple travel adapter in places like New Zealand where they use 3 prongs and 220 V?

The wall charger works on 110 or 220 VAC. However, depending upon where you are you may need an adopter to match the plug configuration in a particular location. Apple sells this. Note it has six adopters but also includes the wall charger and other things.

  • Hp laptop - will the wireless adapter work?

    Hi there,
can anyone tell me if this laptop will work ok with arch?#
    http://h20195.www2.hp.com/PDF/c01578676.pdf
specifically the wireless adapter, everything else is probably pretty straight forward.
    Thanks in advance!

Hahah no i didn't expect anyone to do all the work for me. I did some more digging, and it's proving difficult to check the exact wireless card that is in that model. Even the HP site lists two different ones.
It would appear to either be:
    Atheros (possibly AR5009)
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft … ct=3812213
or Broadcom (possibly 4322AG, but it's not specific)
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft … ct=3812213
After looking around a little more, i found this:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=222491
Looks like if its a broadcom, its a no-go, but Atheros is for the win. I'll have to contact the shop to see if they can tell me which one it will be.

  • Will Singapore-market iSight work US-market iMac?

Via eBay, I found new-in-box iSight cameras from a seller in Singapore. The part number is M8817ZP/C instead of M8817LL/C. Will there be any issues using this with my iMac? (I'm sure I can forget about any tech. support.)
Here's the listing for more info. The Apple-Singapore web site to which the listing links reads no differently than Apple-USA's site.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200052416977

    Hi Helicon,
They will work fine. The Mnnnn is the model number, anything after that is usually documentation or packaging variations. Z variations are usually international.

  • Will the digitial adapter work with this ca

I'm currently using the on-board Motherboard sound card because it has an SPDIF output (digital coax) that I can send to both the local receiver, and the receiver in my theater. I have the onboard card set to send both analog and digital audio out via that spdif so I can play mp3's or games, or movies I have saved on the computer in the theater.
My dilema is that using onboard soundcards often turn up problems with video games. Choppy games, and crashes can occur due to the poorly designed motherboard drivers for the onboard soundcard, even when using the most up to date audio drivers.
I have one of the original Sound Blaster LIVE! cards model CT4830. It has a yellow port that looks like a standard mini /8th inch audio jack (like the others). It has the exact same depth as the other 4 ports on the card, and looking at the solder points, it appears that it has less solder points on it than the other connectors.
    So here's the questions:
. Can I use this card and use a RCA to /8th mini connector adapter to get Digital Coax out of this card, or does it require some special adapter cable?
    2. If I can use the above adapter and make it work for digital coax, can I send ALL audio to that port, including analog audio, or will it only pass digital audio to it and not convert analog to digital?
    3. The internal ports you can connect to on this card are: TAD, CD_IN, and AUX_IN. There isn't a port on CD_SPDIF. Due to that factor, if both of the above questions are yes, will this unit process digital audio (such as DTS or AC3) through the IDE channel and into this card from the CD/DVD player that's onboard, so that this card will send the DTS feed to my receiver, or will some additional tweaks be nessecary to make that happen?
