Will an iMac 1.25GHz G4 20" logic board fit in a 17" base?

I have an opportunity to get an iMac 20" G4 1.25GHz logic board that has USB 2.0. The tech specs say that the 17 & 20 are both 10.6" in diameter and they look to have the same I/O connectors. Does anyone know if the 20" will fit in the 17" housing?

  • What will it cost to get a new logic board in my 17" macbook pro 2.2 i7

Water was spilled on a 17" macbook pro 2.2 i7 early 2011 model and now it won't power up. What will Apple charge me to replace the logic board, which I assume is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Only Apple can give you a definitive answer.  Take it in for a diagnosis and you will be told what are the exact costs.

  • Will a late 2007 logic board fit in a early 2006 chassis?

I have a 2006 MBP and the GPU went out in it. Common problem, so I've been told. I am just going to replace the logic board and was wondering if the late 2007 logic boards fit in the early 2006 body. If not, what will fit? Just trying to get a little more bang for my buck. It's a 17 inch, by the way.

The answer is no for any one who looks at this.

  • Will a iMac G5 work to run Logic 8 smoothly?

I am looking to buy an iMac soley to run Logic. I am using Logic 7 right now but will probably upgrade in the next 6 mo. I am trying to make the most cost efficient decision... as much as I would like to get a brand new iMac it seems like it may make sense to go ahead and get something cheaper if it can run logic smoothly. As I mentioned, the only thing I will be doing is running logic on the machine... will a iMac G5 work? I was thinking about getting a 2.0Ghz + processor and then probably upgrading the RAM. Any and all feedback is very much appreciated, thanks!

Well for one thing, I don't think the OP will have much luck trying to add UAD cards to an imac, seeing as there's no option for PCI cards.. Secondly, an imac G5 vs a G5 tower isn't a fair comparison given that the imac G5s were only single core vs dual core or more, so a lot slower where it counts.
To the OP: "running logic smoothly" can mean a lot of things. If you want better advice, you should give an outline of what you expect to do with logic. For example, if you just want to do basic multitracking, recording guitar/vocals etc, and use a small handful of software synths, then you'd probably be OK. But if you're expecting to be able to make extensive use of all of the plug ins and software synths that come with logic, and any other AU ones you might have, then I'd say forget about it. Any current model intel mac, or a second hand intel mac from the past 2 years or so will be a much much smarter move.

  • Late 2006 24" imac - broken sata connector on logic board

How to fix broken sata port on logic board? It snapped off, apparently it wasn't soldered on very securely. Now I can only boot my machine with external usb drive. Help!

    Hi Aaron
Bummer, I only see 4 options.
    1. Continue to run from an External HD, FireWire 400 is faster than USB.
    2. Find someone with the tools and skill to re-solder a connector back onto the logic board.
+(problem is, not to many folks can or will, because it's nearly impossibly)+
    3. Buy a new Logic Board for $600+ > http://www.welovemacs.com/apim242inco26.html
+(problem is, that the iMac isn't worth $600)+
    4. Buy a New or Refurbished iMac.

Personally I'd put my money on #4, instead of spending another dime on a 4 year old machine that also needs a Graphic's Chip and who knows what else.

  • Erase Imac g5 ALS With bad Logic Board?

I'm finally getting around to selling my old 20" Imac Power PC 2.0Ghz Ambient Light sensor. I'd like to do an erase, however I'm afraid it won't stay on through the process. It runs for 10-20 minutes and then dies. Sometimes I get over an hours use. I'm guessing the logic board is bad, from what I've read.
Can I boot in target mode and erase it with my new iMac? If I do that, will it erase the OS or is there an option where I can keep the OS on there, but erase everything else?
If I try to use the install CD to do a full reset and erase and my imac crashes during, is that bad?
I've already manually deleted all of my music, videos, pictures and installed applications, but I'm not sure if my credit card info was stored on it. Its been a while since I've used it.
    Thanks
    J

You can use Target Disk mode and then Disk Utility to erase it and then install an OS, but if it won't stay on for very long, it might not stay on in TDM either. Give it a try from your install disc, do a simple erase, then reinstall the OS.

  • 1st Generation iMac G5 with new main logic board but now no Bluetooth?

    Greetings:
As an owner of a 1st generation iMac, I can finally report that my iMacG G5 is now working fine since the main logic board has been replaced because of bad capacitors.
A NEW problem has been created. My internal bluetooth no longer works and is not visible in the hardware profile. I suspect that the Apple repair center may have removed my module or that it was attached to the old main logic board. On PC's running MS Windows (XP), there is a "hardware detect" routine.
QUESTION: Can anyone tell me if the internal module is visible by taking the cover off? I cannot seem to find a photo of where or how the module is attached. I can see my Airport module. Regardless, the Apple repair center said to simply bring it back in and they would fix the problem. They indicated that it was a simple software fix. After trying many different software techniques, I still believe they somehow forgot that my computer had BT and it went back with my old logic board.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jeff

We discovered the problem. After taking my iMac G5 back to the Apple service center, I got to observe the technician remove my G5 cover and bluetooth module.
The problem was due to the fact that the initial technician apparently did not realize he/she broke off the very small connecting pins on the module when he/she removed it from the original main logic board with the bad capacitors. They simply screwed it on the main logic board. They order a new BT module to replace the broken one.
FYI: It is very easy to install the BT module on the main logic board as I observed. No soldering, etc.. The location is directly above the power supply but below the airport card. It is about the size of a postage stamp and is in clear view withou removing any parts.
    Thanks to All....Miriam...

  • Will a 14" iBook Logic board fit inside a 12" iBook?

I've seen pictures of the logic boards on various retailer sites, and want to upgrade my 1.0GHz 12" to as fast as possible. I was thinking about the 1.33 GHz 12" but if the 1.42GHz 14" fits then that would be pretty sweet... does anybody have any insight on this?

    "I really don't think it's worth the bother....just get a 12" one."
Whether or not it is "worth the bother" is soley a matter of what you consider a bother. To some, and I suspect this of the OP, it is very rewarding to do repairs and modifications, and particularliry mods that have not been done before. I say kudos to the OP for trying. It may be cheaper to buy a used 1.33GHz ibook but doing his proposed mod, whether he is successful or not, will make him a little better off than the "can't do's".
In fact, on this forum all I ever read is "have it looked at" or "send it to Apple" or "it is not user replaceable" etc. Nobody here ever seems to entertain the concept of actually doing something for him/herself.

  • Will apple replace a faulty or bad logic board on my 2013 MacBook Pro?

I have a late 2013 13" macbook pro that has been diagnosed, by a non apple provider, with a bad logic board.  The place where i took it suggested getting that confirmed with Apple.  I have an appointment tomorrow at my local apple dealer...
but am worried that this practically new laptop is toast or going to be very costly since I don't have applecare!!  Any help for me????

my late 2013 13" pro also has a bad logic board. The diag said it was a memory failure. I'm 3 months out of warranty and had it sent to the repair center for $280 plus tax. I don't feel like the logic board was defective I just didn't catch it in time. I tried a restore a few months ago and it worked better because i was in Yosemite beta since the developers beta and I thought the issues were because of the betas. It has constant panics and restarts but I was trying to get by until now it wouldn't turn on and disk utility said the hard drive was not mounted and it wouldn't let me restore It. maybe there are a few more people with problems then there should be so soon.

  • New logic board fitted & posible os failure

Sorry if this is long winded. My son (just finished Uni but lives 200mls away) has a 33 month old iMac G5, recently it would not always power (eg no electricity) up before finally failing.
It was taken to the local Apple Centre who said the logic (motherboard) had failed (due to a FireWire prob), a new one was flitted this week under 3yr warranty, however the shop said it will not boot up with the existing Hard Drive (but will with another) due to an OS failure (not covered under warranty, they said the Disk Utility is greyed out, (guessing they put it in a caddy). They said they will do several formats of the drive before reinstalling the OS on existing drive at a cost of £100!!!!!!! Now I have some questions as they need to know ASAP.
    1. Could the logicboard failing, affect the OS or via versa.
    2. Is the shop trying some rip off on cost of multiple reformatting saying it will take 2hrs to do?
    3. Would we be better off getting a new hard drive and installing OS ourselves, or get shop to put in new HD rather than multireformat old HD to save on time? And then get some data recovery specialist to get all his photo’s off (although shop says it can’t be done).
4.Is there a known issue with the board failing so early board?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ramasay-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards
I will answer to the best of my ability.
    1. The logic board failing could have caused something on or with the drive to fail. Simply ask for the old drive back, get an external FireWire case, and access the drive that way. It is possible that a utility like DiskWarrior might be able to recover most of your files.
    2. Actually it might take longer to format depending on the size of the drive.
    3. Depending on the model iMac and your technical abilities replacing the hard drive yourself might be the cheapest option. Make sure doing so will not void any warranty that you might have on the logic board replacement. It may be wise to have the shop install a new and larger hard drive and install the original system on that.
    4. Many things can cause a logic board to fail. To have it repaired under warranty or AppleCare is a beautiful thing. You may check here to see if you are covered by any of the repair extension programs for known covered issues with iMacs: iMac Programs

  • What Logic Board fits an iBook G3 900 mhz?

    Hi!
I have an iBook G3 12" 900mhz with a bad logic board. I'm planning to replace it. Can I fit all kinds of dual USB iBook Logic Boards in there?
    Cheers!

    What are the symptoms?
You may know that enough Dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from the logic board problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Check out the FAQ page and if the symptoms look familiar, give Apple a call. If the iBook qualifies, it's a free fix.
You can find the original purchase date of the iBook, by entering its serial number into the box toward the bottom right of Apple's main support page under "About Your Support Coverage."
If it is past the three-year time limit (which it probably is), try calling Apple and ask for Customer Relations (NOT Customer Service--they can't help you) and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case.
If the answer from Apple is absolutely, positively, "NO!" and the symptoms are those of the classic logic board failure described on the FAQ page, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Displays Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.

  • Would an 1236 logic board fit into an a1211 case?

    Hi all,
I'm just curious, I picked up a 2.33 ghz a1211 macbook pro for very cheap, and was very disappointing to find out that apple decided to not make drivers for the x1600 work on mountain lion, even thought the drivers work just great in windows 7 x64. Anyways, I am going to upgrade the hard drive, and the super drive doesnt work so I am replacing that too. But my main question is since I'm gonna have the laptop completely open anyways, If I were to buy a cheap a1226 2.4ghz logic board, which I believe works with mountain lion, would it fit into the case properly?

No, I don't believe so - the other components (power, RAM, etc) are also in different physical configurations, so there's no way to attach them to a new MB in an older tower.

  • Can you tell me if this logic board fits my macbook please?

Hi, I have a late 2006 A1181 white macbook 2.0ghz with a dead logic board and I saw this A1181 820-2279-A T8300 2.4ghz board for sale for a reasonable price, I think it is a late 2008 board but it looks the same thing as my old board, could this board possibly fit my late 2006 macbook?
    Thanks,
    Paul

I figured out the answer, it's...nope...

  • IMac display connector on logic board

Does anyone know the part number or part description for the connector on the logic board that connects to the display (tdms) cable on an iMac G4? On the logic board, where the old one was, is the notation "j10". The person I got this iMac from tried upgrading the hard drive and accidentally ripped the connector off because they didn't unclip the tdms cable from the drive first.
I figure soldering a new connector on should be a pretty easy fix, but I'm not sure what part to order. I know a few places that I could probably order it from, once I know what I'm ordering.

Seems to me a similar question has appeared in these boards, and
there are a few people who are regulars, that may know the answer.
Been awhile since I've seen the posts regarding this topic, so I can't
just put a link to the correct discussion at this time. Maybe the post
could appear as part of a search; such a dragnet approach may be
daunting and the yield well beyond the scope of your needs.
A slightly different discussion than I recall, but near the neighborhood:

Is there a close-up picture here of the connector in question?

You may be able to contact this source via his Discussions
