Will an iPhone purchased unlocked in the USA work in India on 3G
I am going to live in USA for 2-3 months. I am planning to buy an unlocked iphone 5, use it there and when i return back to India i plan to use it there also.
My question is will it work in India atleast on 2G and 3G?
Yes it will with an Apple Approved Indian Carrier on GPRS and 3G not not LTE (4G)
However you will have NO warranty in India
and the ONLY source of unlocked iPhones in US is Apple Retail Stores

Historically I believe its been 2-4 months after the release of the provider locked versions. You just have to be patient. Personally I am also waiting for Apple to release a truly unlocked device before I upgrade one of our iPhones.

Only if it is unlocked, and they are not selling the unlocked iPhone at the Apple store yet.
EDIT: I'm sorry, I missed that you referred to iPhone 5S. There should be an unlocked 5S, and it could work in Malaysia, but probably not with all of the bands there. Also, the warranty for the device is good only in the US. -

Expanding on what Tim said to make sure it's clear, only the carrier to which the iPhone is locked can authorize unlocking. If Optus is the original carrier, as would seem to be the case, O2 would not be able to unlock it. Only Optus can authorize the unlock, so you'll need to contact them. They say, though, that only the account holder can apply for unlocking, so you might not be able to get it unlocked and will have to work through the person from whom you bought the iPhone.

I called a guy of the Apple Store Fifth Avenue and he told me it was available unlocked in the USA. Is that true ? Because I heard a lot of people saying it wouldn't be available until end of October.
Thanks !No, at least not yet. Its available unlocked from the canadian apple store. But not in the US store yet, nor any brick and mortar store.

I recently got my iPhone 5 unlocked and the other day I updated my phone to ios 7. After doing so my phone shut off and turned on and it said I had no service. I guess it completely wiped out my unlock. I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do to fix it!!
How, EXACTLY, did you get it "unlocked"? ONLY the carrier it's locked to can authorize unlocking it. Anything else is a hack.
