Will an unlocked iPhone 4S work with both CDMA and GSM SIM cards?

I was using the iPhone 4S with a GSM sim card all these years here in India and would like to switch to a CDMA carrier.
Does the phone work with both SIM cards? Or is there a separate model which works with CDMA?

I know this question is probably premature, I don't think apple has mentioned anything about it yet, but I saw that past unlocked iPhones (4 and 4S) would not work on Verizon. I'm a Verizon customer and I want to keep my unlimited data plan, the only way to do this is buy a iPhone at retail, but from what I saw regarding the 4 and 4S I may not be able to do this. Honestly I'm not convinced to jump to sprint so quickly. I am monitoring my data as it is, I'm a heavy data user as I watch a lot of movies from Netflix Hulu plus crackle etc. the flip side of this is that I do most of this on my iPad, which I have currently unlimited data on, so I can still get by without unlimited data on my cell, it's more of me not wanting to lose what I have. But thanks for all the info. I'm secretly hoping that apple has redone the unlocked iPhones but I wont lose any sleep over wishful thinking. I'm just quite anal I guess lol. Thanks again

An officially unlocked iphone 4 will work with other GSM networks. The ONLY major GSM network in the U.S is T-Mobile ( who are being purchased by AT&T). Currently with T-Mobile you will not get 3G service or visual voicemail with the iphone.

The SIM card In my iPhone 5 has been giving me occasional messages that there has been a SIM Failure, there is NO SIM, or that there is an INVALID SIM. Until today, I was able to restart it with no problem and the SIM card would start up.

How come a USB will work with both Mac and Windows (as in that there are already files from Windows and Mac can still read and write onto it) but a external Hard Drive won't (as in there are files from Windows on there but Mac can read but not write)?

I have a Seagate Drive that I'm hoping to copy some movies from my Mac onto (because it only has a 512 SSD and I'd rather keep that empty and handy for more readily needed files) but it won't work. It shows up as a drive when connected (with the orange USB drive icon popping up) and is appropirately labeled "FreeAgent Drive", but when I try to copy files onto it it won't work. There are already windows files on there, such as some windows backups and lot's and lot's of pictures and videos. However, I have several USBs which already have windows files on them (namely movies, music, and other stuff) and copying and stuff works fine. Why won't it work with this hard drive and would work with USBs? Please help me out here guys, I am not experienced with Hard disks and formatting and stuff like that. 10 points for whoever helps me out the most. Thanks.

We will need to reformat your EXT, but it will then work on both Mac and Win
Connect the drive to your Mac, open disk utility
Go to the partiton tab and select '1' ... format should be ExFAT ... in options select MBR
Format the drive
It should now work on both OSs; report back

Unlocked iphone not working with tmobile

I bought an iphone 4 off craigslist, which they said was unlocked. When I came home put the Tmobile sim card in it goes to no serivce. I put the same sim card in another unlocked iphone and it works. I called ATT and they said the phone i just bought is unlocked. I contacted Tmobile and they said the same thing but everything they told me to do didnt help, still no service. Called Apple they say its unlocked also. The phone itself is in near perfect condition, but is out of warranty by a couple of months. Anyone have any ideas?
I have tried reseting the network settings and doing a restore/update with itunes right now.

Go into a T-Mobile Store and have them try other microSIMs and see if one works. If you know anyone who has an AT&T smartphone try theirs in your iPhone.
If you called Apple and they said it was unlocked it is indeed so. And upgrading to 6.1 would indeed not have succeeded if there was a hack present.

I am moving to Spain for a year and would like to get a new iPhone before going. My plan is to buy an unlocked iPhone 5S from the apple store in the US, bring it to Spain, and use a Spanish phone company (vodafone, orange, yoigo,...) SIM when I get there.

The model I can buy at the US apple store is A1533 (GSM).

i agree with matt exFat is a hybrid with good compatibility between both windows and mac, but it has this problem with huge cluster size so it'll eat your hdd up.
if you are using it on a single windows pc you can install a HFS+ reader to that windows pc it'll enable you to read the hdd formatted HFS+ but you WON'T be able to write to it!!
anyway it's your choice since both are okay but personally i've formatted mine to HFS+ and installed a reader on the pc

Your car charger and the video component cables for your 3G should continue to work. The reason some of the car chargers that worked with the first generation iPhone didn't work with the iPhone 3G is Apple removed the firewire pins from the dock connector with the iPhone 3G. A number of car chargers charged via firewire, not USB. The first generation iPhone supports charging via firewire, which is not supported with the iPhone 3G, and will no longer be supported with any future iPhone or iPod models.

Unlocked iPhone not working with Vodafone

I have an awkward problem. A couple of months ago I bought an unlocked iphone in Italy because I was moving to the Netherlands and I knew they didn't sell unlocked iPhones there. In the meantime I successfully used my Italian prepaid SIM card.
Now I bought a Vodafone NL SIM card. The first time I tried to use it, I got a No Service message on my iPhone but apparently the SIM was working with another cheap phone that I have. Today I went to the Vodafone store where I bought the SIM and they replaced the SIM card twice. Apparently the last SIM card was working, I could call and receive calls, send and receive text messages.
Unfortunately, I can use the phone just for 10 minutes, then I get a No Service message. I have to reboot my iPhone and then it works again (for 10 minutes).
Vodafone told me that they did everything they could and the problem depends on my phone (they even support the iPhone, all the settings are right, but still no luck).
Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Do you think this problem depends on the iPhone?
I really don't know what to do and I have a 1 year contract (even if it is only 10 € p/m, it is still annoying).

Yes, if your phone is unlocked. I had been using my iPhone 4S on T-Mobile months before they started carrying it, and still do.
