Will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port?

I've not been able to find any information about this on the web and there is definitely some confusion about DisplayPort versions - could some one answer the question will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K IPS Monitor at it's native resolution of 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port? Would that be at 30Hz rather than 60Hz?
Many thanks, Mark.

Go to Solution.

The X220 will drive the Dell UP2414Q 4K resolution through Displayport. I have tested this on the Pro2840m LCD which has the same resolution. But only on 30 hz refresh rate.
The X220 with the Series 3 Workstation Dock will drive 2 of the Pro2840m through 2 separate displayport.
The X201 will also drive this 4K resolution, as long as the LCD's 4K can accept Displayport 1.1 standard (on the 1.2 standard, the LCD will stay blank).
https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14671257827/in/set-72157645860787090
the above image confirms the 4K resolution and my X220 driving that resolution @ 30 hz.
For 60 hz refresh rate on the 4K resolution with integrated Intel GPU, you need Haswell CPU with the HD5000 graphics card, anything below that will only drive the 4K resolution at 30 Hz.

  • WIll my MP drive a dell U2711

I ordered a Dell U2711 as I'm tired of waiting for Apple's new monitor offerings and I never checked if my MP will drive it ok. It has the ATI 4890 HD and the Dell the following inputs : VGA, DVI, Composite, Component, HDMI, DisplayPort.
I believe the Apple card has a mini display port and dvi out but whcih input to the Dell is used ? Will the DVI work or must I get a mini displayport to displayport cable ?
Anyone provide comments on this monitor..anyone here using it ?
    Thanks

Another option is to get a mini display port to display port adapter from monoprice.com for about $10 and you can use the mini display port to drive the monitor if you need the DVI for something else on the card.

  • FIX for Dell U3011 displaying YPbPr instead of RGB via display port

I kind of hacked my way around and got my Dell U3011 to properly display RGB instead of YPbPr (or YCbCr) over a mini display port to display port cable for my MacBook Pro Retina 15"! WOOHOO! no need for that stupid $150 dual link dvi to mini displayport adapter anymore, which was incredibly flakey and sometimes the monitor turned on, and sometimes it didn't etc... lots of problems.
    Download the file from:
    http://www.8mmdesign.com/u3011-rgb-ypbpr-fix/DisplayVendorID-10ac.zip
    unzip into:
    /System/Library/Displays/Overrides
It will create a new directory called:
    /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-10ac
Then reboot the system, and it should work. Go to system preferences, displays, color, and set the display profile to Color LCD.
This will *ONLY* work for the Dell u3011 and it is completely UNTESTED. Use at your OWN RISK. But you should have proper RGB colors after doing this.
    Good luck!

This post helped me: http://ireckon.net/2013/03/force-rgb-mode-in-mac-os-x-to-fix-the-picture-quality -of-an-external-monitor
I have an Onkyo AV Receiver TX-NR414, I'm using the HDMI passthru (connecting Mac to AVR, then AVR to TV) and my Macs where giving bad colors.
Connecting the Mac directly to the TV was ok.
So the problem was the need to force the Mac to output RGB, the above linked blog post has a link to a Ruby script that will create a profile with RGB output. Follow the instructions and it will get it right.

I had to install Dell Wireless 1702 WiFi +
    Bluetooth Driver
The wireless adapter was defined by this driver, however, the Bluetooth still has an exclamation mark in front of it, and when the Dell WLAN and Bluetooth client installation finished, a pop up message said that Windows couldn't install the device
well, although there was a folder added in documents folder named 'Bluetooth Folder'
Yes, the Bluetooth was named with 'Generic Bluetooth adapter' before installing 'Driver above'. However, after installing the driver above, the Bluetooth adapter named with ' Dell wireless 1702 Bluetooth v3.0". But as you see it's
    still not working will.
The sceen shot shows the device manger before installing  Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver
These screen shots shows the device manger after installing  Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver
I've lit windows detect the operating program for this device on the internet, it said "Windows has detected that the operating  program of this device is up to date. As this screenshot shows.
What should I do because nothing lift to try? If you have a look at the ninth drivers in my previous message, you will see that no other drivers for Bluetooth lift.
Also, I have tried  to install Intel
    Centrino Wireless-N 1030 WiFi Driver
But I have been told that "the installation is blocked', This package of installation cannot be installed on your system' I don't know what this
means, is it because Dell Wireless 1702 WiFi +
    Bluetooth Driver is being installed
Could you please take some of your preciout time out to read carefully my points below to finish this problem?
    first:
Yes, if you had a look at my first post, you would have seen that I really have downloaded and installed the drivers suitable for bluetooth, which was only Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver, which made the bluetooth recognized by Windows 7(64Bit). However, the bluetooth in the device manager still has an exclamation mark as it is shown in the device manager.
I don't have any other drviers which can do more than the what Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver did because I have tried all the drivers listed under 'Network', exept the what are for Etherent.
Yes, when I have tried adding the bluetooth between two laptops(Mohammad and Nasreen).  the bluetooth was added for both laptops as you see in these screenshots below:
The Bluetooth devices of Nasreen's laptop whose bluetooth is having some problems in Device mangage.
The Bluetooth devices of Mohammad's laptop  whosse Bluetooh is defined well in device manager.
But there is still problem in the device managre as shown in the screenshot listed before.
Second: (Important) That when I want to send files or recieving between two bluetooth added in either laptop, I could send them. Also, when I open the Mohammad's bluetooth added in Nansreen's laptop( screenshot
below), I can show what is inside it.
However, when I open the the Nasreen's bluetooth addd in Mohammad's laptop, I noticed  no reponse at all because as you see that disconnected is written in fornt "Nasreen-Pc" as this screenshot:
Although sometimes Nasreen-Pc gets connected as screenshot below, but I am still not able to open the Bluetooth folder of Nasreen-pc from Mohammad-pc. When trying to do that, no response is there.
In other times, Nasreen-pc gets connected for a while, but it comes back disconnected.
Third:: I noticed that the name of Laptop whose Bluetooth was added listed in 'My computer' for the laptop whose Bluetooth is having some problems in the device manager.(First Screen shot below)  However,
the name of the laptop whose Bluetooth is having problems wasn't listed on other laptop's "my computer"(Second Screen shot below)
Finally: : when I clicked "right-click" on "Nasreen-PC" and then clicking on "detecting and troublshooting issues", I found that windows informed me that :
But which driver should I reinstall because I have already installed the Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver almost twice?
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.

Certain driver packages contain drivers from some of the essential services only and for additional services, separate drivers must be installed. Additionally, the service is installed only if a compatible device is installed (or paired).
Therefore, you are seeing the error.
If you are using the Bluetooth L2CAP Interface and Bluetooth Remote Control services and not able to install the services, you can try unpairing the device, restart the PC, pair the device and then check. If that too fails, you need to install a suitable
driver, sometimes even other OEM drivers solve the issue. You can Bing/Google about this. You can also contact Dell Support for more information.
    Balaji Kundalam
    Thanks a lot,
I really didn't understand what you mean with in your first part the service is installed only if a compatible device is installed (or paired).
    The Bluetooth is integrated with
the laptop, then  where other services will come from, all service are related to Bluetooth.
If there are some additional services not related to Bluetooth,
then how can I either let them functioning well or disable them in order to get rid of the yellow exclamation mark
on the name of my laptop in the Device and printers.
Also, I really have installed a
BCBT7(Broadcom Bluetooth) for HP which really defined the same Bluetooth issue,
Device manager after installing the entire setup of driver BCBT7(Broadcom Bluetooth) on HP laptop
but  when trying to install the same
BCBT7(Broadcom Bluetooth)  on Dell,  I faced the error below, although there is an icon for Bluetooth in
the system tray. Also, the Bluetooth is integrated as
you have seen in the device manager.
You didn't answer me: Third:: I noticed that the name of Laptop whose Bluetooth was added listed in 'My computer' for the laptop whose
Bluetooth is having some problems in the device manager.(First Screen shot below)  However, the name of the laptop whose Bluetooth is having problems wasn't listed on other laptop's "my computer"(Second Screen shot below)

  • Will the X1 drive multiple monitors?

I currently have a 2-monitor setup (Dell 30" monitor that requires dual-link DVI, and Dell 24" monitor that requires single-link DVI).
I realize that I'd need to get HDMI-to-DVI and mini-DP to DVI adapters, but if I did so, would the X1 drive the two monitors simultaneously?
As another way of asking, does the X1 drive monitors hooked to the mini-DP and the HDMI ports simultaneously?
    Thanks for any help!

you can drive the Dell 30 inch using the mini DP port (you would need couple of adapters) and the 24 inch using the HDMI port simultaneously.
But the internal LCD will be switched off.

  • Mac pro (late 2013), Dell UP2414Q and windows8.1 bootcamp

I bought mac pro (late 2013) and Dell UP2414Q.
Monitor is set on DP1.2 and works normally in OS X. I get 4K@60Hz, I can switch to lower resolutions like 1920x1080 and it works.
Then I Installed windwos 8.1 which I need for some testing and I have aproblem here:
When DP 1.2 is enabled, and I switch to 1920x1080 resolution, I get 2 pictures on screen squeezed together - totally useless and I can't work on that.
If I disable DP 1.2 and revert on monitor to DP 1.1 it works normally. But I switch to 4K with only DP1.1 enabled I can get only 30Hz out.
As it seems under OS X I can use any resolution with DP 1.2 enabled, but not in windows 8.1 via bootcamp.
I would really really love to get this working, I tried next things, but nothing worked:
    -update bootcamp support
-update AMD gpu drivers from their web page
I already wrote on Dell forum and I got redirected here on apple forums.

which model  rMBP 13"  or rMBP 15"
the 13 will support it with the latest intel drivers.
the 15 will support it with the latest nvidia drivers.
i have both models and both are working correctly.

  • Mac Pro with Dell UP2414Q Sleep Wake Issue

    Hi,
I have *two* Dell UP2414Q displays connected to a new Mac Pro, both using Display Port 1.2 (MST) setting in order to get 4K @ 60Hz.
Works fine. Except Google Chrome which is really lame at redrawing all these pixels when you scroll up/down.
The issue is: when the displays go to sleep for a longer period of time (actually it's probably when the Mac Pro itself has gone to sleep) and I wake the system up, the Dells sometimes won't wake up!
And if I start fiddling with the display buttons I will get a half image (left half of the screen). Same problem on each display except sometime it's the first one that doesn't wake up, sometimes it's the second one and sometimes it's both. Unfortunately the situation where they both wake up is extremely rare
Has anyone else had similar troubles?
Note: I have had similar sleep wake issues with just one UP2414Q connected.
    I'm running OS X 10.9.4 (of course).
I'm also having a 3rd smaller display connected though a DVI adapter. That one wakes up 100% of the time. I previously had 3 of these and they did always wake up all 3 without issues.
    -Francois.

I have this issue with the UP2414Q monitor and my new Mac Pro . . . . . and then some.
I started by losing the right half of the screen on wake up. After about two months of use, my monitor has developed a fault where both sides of the monitor are displayed but at seemingly very different calibrations. The left half is contrasty and the right half seems to be correctly matched to my working profile. This is using the display port connections. HDMI doesn't have this problem but it also won't run at 60Hz, which was an important factor in my choice of this monitor.
At this point I contacted both Apple and Dell. Although I have had quite a few different Apple support staff over a period of a week or so, they did keep good notes, were very patent and seemed to take a genuine interest into trouble shooting it. I cannot say the same for Dell. At first they did ask questions and did the right thing by sending a replacement. It worked fine on display port, then on HDMI but when I connected it back to display port the split screen problem occurred on the brand new replacement one too. After a day of fiddling with connections it went back to displaying correctly with all connections and has not reverted but it does now have the dead right halve on wakeup more frequently than before. I reconnected the original monitor but that has the split screen problem and I can't find a way of getting it to go away. It is unusable.
This incident with the replacement monitor was five days ago. In that time I have tried to contact Dell support by the original e-mail of the technician that initially helped and by phone, through the support number. The email gets the repeated response "Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for your email. I have left for the day, hence my reply will be delay". It happens in the mooring or the afternoon. A phone call to Dell's support number always starts with a promise to be transferred to the technician dealing with my case and, without fail ends by me being left on hold indefinitely with a terrible one minute audio loop followed by a repeated promise of the next available agent. I once waited over 30 minutes, just to test it. I live in Australia but this was clearly an international call centre. Dell obviously have no intention of dealing with my case. They will have to talk soon though because I still have an extra one of their monitors.
Unless there is a firmware update for this monitor, I would strongly advise against buying one for a Mac, or any Dell product for that matter.

  • How do I drive two Dell M110 projectors from my new 15" Macbook pro

I am trying to drive two Dell M110 projectors from my 15" Macbook Pro.  When connecting one projector via the HDMI port I am able to utilize two seperate "screens" (laptop screen and projector display), but when I connect any projectors via the Thunderbolt port I am only able to clone the laptop desktop across all the connected displays.  I want to be able to display a seperate image on each display.  I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Windows 7 via Parallels 8.  Thank you.

Please note that if Office is being removed to fix a problem prior to re-installing a new copy AppCleaner will not do what is needed, it is important to follow Microsoft's directions exactly, AppCleaner does not.
Carolyn Samit's link is the correct method.

  • Using W510 120 SSD in X220 drive bay?

    Hi Folks,
I posted this question previously, but the full solution has not been posted.
I have a 120 SSD from my W510 which I would like to put in my X220.  Is this possible?  The problem is that the caddy that comes with the 120 SSD is too large for the drive bay of the X220,  It also appears that the pin configureation is different.  I suspect that this is not possible, but I thought I would ask.
    Thanks,

The major problem is that drive has a 1.8" wide form factor, and the W510 caddy beefs it up to a 2.5" wide, 9.5mm high form factor.
The X220 drive bay is intended for a 2.5" wide, 7mm high drive, so you have a few issues to address
There is no "plug and play" caddy for mounting that Toshiba drive in an X220 drive bay, so a degree of creativity will be needed if you want to attempt to do it.
I don't have that drive, so my comments below are based on looking at photos from here.... http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/3516/lenovo_toshiba_oem_thns128gg4baaa_128gb_solid_state_drive/ind...
It appears that the connector on the back of the Toshiba drive is a standard SATA type, and it also appears the drive is 7mm (or so) thick, so the challenge is to get it aligned correctly with the SATA connector in the X220 drive bay.
Electrically it should work , but you would need to figure out how to locate/fix the drive in a X220 drive caddy so that it did not become disconnected.
Personally, I think it is more trouble than it would be worth, as neither the X220 or the drive would be covered by warranty for doing something like that.
    YMMV
    Cheers,
    Bill

  • Drive Dell 3008 WFP From ThunderBolt/Mini-Display Port to Display Port

I am trying to find the reason why my new MBP Retina Display can not drive my 30 inch Dell 3008 WFP Monitor.  When I connect them the MBP flickers as if it is detecting the display, but I never get a picture.  Does any one know if this is possible, and if not the reasons why ?  Should I have chosen a Mini-displayport to DVI or VGA connection instead?  Thanks.

Sorry I did not make that clear.  Instead of the Thunderbolt/Mini-DisplayPort to Displayport. which is the connection I am trying now with the results described...basically nothing.  Monitor knows there is a connection it just says no signal from computer.  MPB does not even show the monitor in display prefences.  I tried holding option and pressing "Detect Displays" and nothing shows up.

  • Will the optical drive from a 14" iBook G3 fit and work in a 12" iBook G3?(

The logic board in my 14" G3 finally died (after two replacements). I've got a 13" G3 that works great, but has the CD-ROM optical drive.
Will the combo drive from the dead 14" fit in the 13" (and, more importantly, will it work)? I'm not afraid of the disassembly - I've replaced iBook hard drives before, so I know the drill - but I don't want to start on the job, only to find that the drive won't fit or won't work.
I've read some posts online about master vs slave settings, HD jumpers, and so forth, but I don't think they're talking about a swap job like this.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
    Dick

    Dick,
Here's the Apple part numbers for the 14" and 12" from the manuals:
    14"
    Optical Drive
    CD-ROM 661-2667
    CD-RW/DVD-ROM 661-2683
    CD-ROM 661-1775
    COMBO 661-1776
    12"
    Optical Drive Assembly w/Bezel
    CD-ROM 661-1775 (Good)
    Combo 661-1776 (Better)
So the numbers seem identical hard to tell from the info I have if the cables are the same but even if they aren't there are usually just adapters that screw into the back to adapt to different cables. Since you have both iBooks you'll have those adapters.
There also seem to be differences in the bracketing but you'll also have those so I'd give it a try.
Oh and also the bezels might be different.
    Richard

Well, there are different versions of Sata.  See:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Revisions
I think this is the info someone would need:
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the word hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
Look around & see if you can find the bus speed for the SATA.
