Will animated GIFs work on ipod video?

Title says it all. Will animated Gifs work on ipod video?

Because the ipod does not recognize the .gif (Graphics Interchange Format) file format.

  • Animated GIF works in-network, doesn't out ????

    Greetings,
    I have a RoboHelp (FlashHelp) piece at
    http://iqweb.mcny.edu/iqweb/Student_IQWeb/userGuide/student_IQWeb.htm,
    which has a few animated GIFs, you can find one at the end of the
    page in the Do It Online book, View Application Status topic. There
    are two animated airplane smilies marking the end of the page and
    the end of the documentation. This work is hosted by a server
    maintained in-house at the college for which the piece was
    developed.
    I have the same work hosted outside for my own portfolio, at
    http://mywebniche.com/ID/MCNY/RoboHelp/Student_IQWeb/userGuide/student_iqweb.htm
    and the animated GIFs do not animate.
    Also, when I view the piece at the -in-house location
    http://iqweb.mcny.edu/iqweb/Student_IQWeb/userGuide/student_IQWeb.htm
    from outside the college, ie, outside the LAN, the very same
    animated GIFs also fail to animate.
    Does anyone have any idea what is going on? It is not a
    browser setting, I've checked all those, they're the same inside
    and out. It can't be the server per se since the in-house server's
    animated GIFs work fine when viewing from in-house, but not from
    the "outside." Conversely, the animated GIFs in the RoboHelp on the
    outside server animate just fine when viewed from within the
    college LAN, but also fail when viewed from the outside.
    Why would a GIF animate inside a LAN but not outside?
    regards,
    stevenjs

    Hi stevenjs
    Sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news. I just tried both
    links and in both cases, the gifs were animating just dandy. The
    only thing that comes to mind is that I noticed your site stresses
    IE as the suggested browser and I'm using Firefox. But I'm thinking
    even that shouldn't really have a bearing on a simple animated
    .GIF.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Boynq iCube Docking Station work with iPod Video ?

    I am very interested in this product. But not sure if Boynq iCube Docking Station work with iPod Video ? Has anyone out there with a ipod video also has this. Does it dock well with say iPod Video 30G ?

    as long as it has the same connecter it should be fine.
    if you get one make sure the ipod fits in the cradle well.
    if it wiggles too much or seems to be leaning further back than it should either put something around it to keep it standing up or return it and get a different kind.

  • When will Apple release the new iPod Video Firmware?!?

    Hello there
    I'm just wondering when will Apple will release iPod Video Firmware that does fix the Artowork disappearance in iPod Video
    You can check the whole problem details in: Re: Ipod album cover problem "An unknown error occurred (-50)

  • Will FM receiver work with iPod Touch?

    Hi there! I haven't posted for a while...
    I really want an iPod Touch, and have been doing my research online...one of the main complains that keeps coming up is that the iPod Touch doesn't have a volume button. I have a 1st gen iPod Nano, and for that I have an FM receiver (Apple brand, not some cheapo junk). If I can use that with a Touch, then there would be no problem, but the new iPod receiver box doesn't mention that it works with the Touch. If anyone has tried it and could tell me, that would be awesome.
    Just one last thing...I also read that people were having problems with the colour black on their screens, that it appeared all shimmery. Has a patch come through for that, or has it been fixed?
    Thank you in advance!
    Alex

    - No, Apple's iPod Radio Remote does not work with iPod touch. Look for compatible devices on the online Apple Store.
    - I don't think a patch can solve it, but the screen problem was only in the beginning, I don't think it's still an issue.

  • Will most apps work with ipod 2nd or 3rd gen?

    hi there
    im looking to buy an ipod touch but im going to buy a slightly older version 2nd or 3rd generation but i dont wether most apps (especially games) are gonna work or have a lag and how to avoid that because it seems that the new IOS dont work so well with the older ipod.
    thanks!

    You'll have to look at the requirements for each App in the app to determine whether or not it will still work with a 2G iPod Touch, which can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1.
    Several apps have already been updated to require iOS 5 or later, which can be installed on a 3G iPod Touch.
    So in my opinion, it would be much more effective to purchase a 3G iPod Touch instead.

  • WILL PSP CASE WORK WITH IPOD NANO?

    Heya i jus bought an iPod nano and im wondering if the $20 psp case would work without scratching my iPod.

    yea well there is a case that ships with PSP and its black....yea the case is really big but Apple should learn from Sony and make something that is identical to this but with the dimensions of the ipod nano....all im asking is will it work?

  • Will iPhone cable work with iPod classic?

    Will the combination iPhone/BT headset cable that came with my iPhone also charge my iPod classic?

    The cable that came with the iPhone should charge any iPod with a 30 pin connection. I charge my nano with the iPhone dock/cable.

  • Animated GIF - not working properly

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get an animated GIF working in my swing program. I am drawing on a JPanel using paintComponent.
    Here's the thing: It will animate, (faster then it should) and then pause animation for 5 seconds, then animate again. I am trying to achieve constant animation, at the framerate in which is set inside of the GIF file. Is there a better method to use then what I am using? It's not a repaint problem, as I am repainting constantly. Here's what I got:
    String filename = "myimage.gif";
    Image img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(filename);
    g.drawImage(img, x + 28, y + 79, this);A code snippet would be helpful as I am only two weeks into Java and have difficultly reading the Sun documentation.
    Thanks for reading,
    Nate

    Does that entire code snippet appear in the paintComponent method? It should be more like this,
    String filename = "myimage.gif"
    Image img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(filename);
    public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
         g.drawImage(img,x+28,y+79,this);
    }You shouldn't try to get the image from the toolkit everytime. Just get it once, and everytime you paint the image, the next frame will be painted.
    To introduce a constant delay you can use javax.swing.Timer to simply repaint the panel whenever you want to. Here's sort of a basic example
    import javax.swing.ImageIcon;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.Timer;
    import java.awt.Image;
    public class GifAnimation extends JPanel
            implements java.awt.event.ActionListener {
        private Image img;
        private Timer timer;
        private int delay;
        public GifAnimation(String fileName) {
            java.awt.Toolkit toolkit = java.awt.Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
            //The image icon will load the image
            img = new ImageIcon(toolkit.getImage(fileName)).getImage();
            if (img.getWidth(null) == -1 && img.getHeight(null) == -1) {
                System.err.println("Unable to load image: " + fileName);
            }else {
                setPreferredSize(new java.awt.Dimension(img.getWidth(null),
                                                       img.getHeight(null)));
            //in milliseconds
            this.delay = 100;
        public int getDelay() {
            return delay;
        public void setDelay(int delay) {
            this.delay = delay;
            if (timer != null) {
                timer.setDelay(delay);
        //This method is called when a component is connected to a native
        //resource.  It is an indication that we can now start painting.
        public void addNotify() {
            super.addNotify();
            if (img.getWidth(null) != -1) {
                timer = new javax.swing.Timer(delay, this);
                timer.start();
        public void removeNotify() {
            super.removeNotify();
            if(timer != null) {
                timer.stop();
                timer = null;
        public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent e) {
            //you can alternatively use paintImmediately(), but there are
            //going to be certain consequences to using that.
            repaint();
        public void paintComponent(java.awt.Graphics g) {
            //Clears the background before drawing the next frame
            super.paintComponent(g);
            if(img.getWidth(null) != -1) {
                int x = (getWidth() - img.getWidth(null))/2;
                int y = (getHeight() - img.getHeight(null))/2;
                g.drawImage(img,x,y,this);
    }In a GIF file each frame has a duration specified in hundreds of a second. And each frame also has an offset position (not all the frames need to have the same width or height). I can show you how to load this information from the file, but I'm not sure if it would bring major confusion. It requires the use of javax.imageio.ImageIO and javax.imageio.metadata.IIOMetadata . It also requires a recursive method to search the image's metadata for the needed information (a bit overwhelming for a person two weeks into java).

  • Animated Gifs in iWeb: Do they work?

    Do animated GIFs work in iWeb?
    If so, how do you get them in there without iWeb turning them to PNGs?

    Bonjour,
    Yes, they work.
    Drag and drop an animated gif to iWeb.
    publish
    In this [page|http://iweb.debutersurmac.com/siteiweb/Blog/Entrees/2009/3/4iWeb_09_et_lesimages.html] i have an gif (panda)
    Now you have a .mov file. But it isn't an movie : it isn't a file that quicktime can read...
    In source code, HTML tags are those used for an image.
    img src="../../../../Media/roulade-1.mov" alt="" style="height: 94px; position: relative; width: 99px; " class="inline-block"
    And if you drag and drop if from your browser to desktop, you'll have an .gif file (roulade-1.mov.gif).

  • Keynote 3: Transparent Animated GIF Problems

    I've been trying to get an animated GIF with a transparent background to run in Keynote, but it's giving some disastrous results.
    I produce the animation by rendering the frames as PNG (with alpha channel) in MegaPOV 1.2.1. Then I use the convert utility from ImageMagick 6.2.9 to make them into an animated GIF.
    When I drop the animated GIF into Keynote 3.0.2, the first frame shows fine (with transparency and all). But when I animate it, the background goes red (the main color in this particular movie) and some trace of the previous frames stays. It seems like:
    1. Rather than displaying the GIF frame-by-frame, each frame is getting layered onto the previous frames.
    2. Keynote doesn't like the alpha channel for some reason.
    Problem 1 is also present if I open the GIF in Preview (is that supposed to be the correct behavior of an animated GIF?). Problem 2 seems to be Keynote-specific.
    Any suggestions for a work-around on this? The animated GIFs work fine if rendered without the alpha channel, but it'd look so much better with transparency!
    iMac 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    MegaPOV doesn't have a GIF output option. The choices are PNG, Targa, PPM, and hdr (not familiar with that last one). I don't know if PPM even has alpha-capability.
    So in some way, I have to convert PNG to GIF. The tools I have to do this are ImageMagick and Gimp. I tried them both, then viewed the results using several programs. Results are tabulated below -- (1) means that problem 1 from above was apparent (ie, parts of the previous frames were visible under the current frame); (2) means that problem 2 was visible (ie, the transparent parts took on some background color).
    If I didn't know how to change the default white background in the program, I couldn't tell whether problem (2) occurred, since the movie made with Gimp had a white background in Keynote.
    Using ImageMagick 6.2.9 to convert PNG->GIF and animate GIF:
    * viewing with Safari 2.0.4 : (1), can't tell for (2)
    * viewing with Preview 3.0.9 : (1), can't tell for (2)
    * viewing with Firefox 2.0.0.3 : (1)
    * viewing with Keynote 3.0.2 : (1), (2) -- alpha goes red
    Using Gimp 2.2.11 to convert PNG->GIF and animate GIF:
    * viewing with Safari : (1), can't tell for (2)
    * viewing with Preview : (1), can't tell for (2)
    * viewing with Firefox : (1)
    * viewing with Keynote : (1), (2) -- alpha goes white
    I only converted the first few frames using Gimp, since I was doing it by hand.
    All of this makes me wonder whether I'm dreaming the impossible, since problem (1) is universally present. It also makes me pretty sure that problem (2) is Keynote-specific.
    If there are any other tools that will convert/animate GIFs on a modern Mac, I'd love to hear about them. My UNIX-y tools seem to be failing me here. The Mac tools I remember from "back in the day" -- GIFBuilder and GIFConverter -- seem to have been abandoned around the beginning of Mac OS X. GIFBuilder won't even load my files, and GIFConverter still lacks alpha support in PNG.

  • Voice memos on ipod video

    I cant find a mike which will work on ipod video. I gather there is one clled micromemo but it isnt available yet. Would appreciate any suggestions.

    You're correct. There are currently none available.
    I would imagine that there will be several available very soon though.
    Cheers!

  • Problems only with Adobe ImageReady Animated GIF

    Anyone encounter a problem and solution for getting ImageReady animated GIF working properly in a java app? Developer placed 2 animated gifs in the app which caused the CPU system resources to spike to 100%.
    We then tested animated GIFs made from Macromedia Flash and also a freeware animated GIF editor, and both work out fine in the same java app.
    It's odd, but we think there's a problem specifically with animated GIFs produced by Adobe's Image Ready in the Creative Suite 1 package.
    Anyone have more insight?

    Its been a long time since I have used ImageReady, and then it was for about year when CS3 came out. So my memory if very rusty with that program. (In other words I am hoping that I am not too far off base, lol.)
    Check and make sure there are the same number of layers as there are frames. I believe there is an option in the animation palette for sending the frames to layers. Once you know that the frames and layers match (plus any additional layers you create), you can clear out the animation and reapply the layers to frames.
    You should find a small icon in the upper right hand corner of the animation palette and the layers palette. Clicking them will bring up a menu that will do what you need.

  • Problem to display Animated Gif from HTML into JEditorPane

    I have a problem displaying animated gif that comes from URL (HTML) into JEditorPane.
    Let me show you the source I have:
    * @author Dobromir Gospodinov
    * @version 1.0
    * Date: Dec 6, 2002
    * Time: 6:47:53 PM
    package test.advertserver;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class Test {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              JFrame frame = new JFrame();
              JEditorPane ed = new JEditorPane();
              try {
                   ed.setPage("http://localhost:8200/servlet?key=value");
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              JPanel panel = new JPanel();
              panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(500, 500));
              panel.add(ed);
              frame.getContentPane().add(panel);
              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }Part of the returned from servlet HTML includes an img tag:
    <img src="/images/MyAnimatedGif.gif" alt="animated gif comment" width="480" height="50"  border="0">Let us assume that MyAnimatedGif.gif has 10 frames and gif is looped - when the 10th is dipslayed it has to display the 1st and so on.
    JEditorPane displays frames from 1 to 10 correctly but does not start from the first again. Instead JEditorPane displays a broken image.
    I locate where the problem arise:
    JEditorPane has an HTMLEditorKit that creates javax.swing.text.html.ImageView instance for every IMG tag.
    And here is the problem:
    ImageView has an ImageObserver necessary for the asynchronous image download. ImageObserver has the imageUpdate method. But this imageUpdate method is never called with ALLBITS flag raised up. Instead, after the last frame of MyAnimatedGif.gif is downloaded the imageUpdate method is called with flag ERROR raised up. Obviously this is a bug of Sun's implementation. Finaly the flag ALLBITS has to be received for normal end of image observing. But ALLBITS flag does not come.
    So, can anybody help me how to load an animated gif within JEditorPane completely.
    Thank You in advance,
    Dobromir Gospodinov
    P.S. If somebody of you wants to debbug what happens within ImageView will have to implement it (and related classes too, because of the limited package visability) borrowing the source from Sun's ImageView.

    I'm also having this problem with java 1.4.1 I discovered that some animated gifs work fine, while others stop animating. Running with java 1.3.1 fixed the problem. I'm going to report this as a bug

  • Animated GIF in RoboHelp

    Hi there!
    I am using RoboHelp version 11 and I was wondering if I inserted a GIF with animation in a topic, would that animation appear in my project?
    Any help would be great.

    Animated gifs work fine. (Although I have seen some issues when an animated GIF is the only content of a dropdown. But it will work fine for the rest.)
