Will any Lion compatible application open AppleWorks paint files?

Is there any available application open AppleWorks paint files?
Better yet, any Lion compatible application that will do so.

I've been saving my completed AppleWorks Draw documents for a long time by copying them into Preview and saving from there, but, of course, you lose the ability to edit them then.
A bit off-topic, but I've found that you can't copy/paste an AppleWorks Paint document directly into Preview in Snow Leopard (as you could in previous versions of the OS). You need to paste it into an AppleWorks Draw document first, and then you can copy it from there, go to Preview, and use Command +n to make a new Preview document from the clipboard which then can be saved in the image format you prefer.
Until something that truly replaces AppleWorks comes along, I'm stuck in Snow Leopard, I'm afraid.
I'm just not willing to "make do" with several different applications that don't do as much as AppleWorks does as easily as AppleWorks does it.
Progress … isn't always.

I'm considering buying CC LR/PS package. My camera is Sony a7 - raw ARW. I've been editing using PSE10 and ver 8.7 of the external Adobe DNG converter. Will I be able to open the DNG files in LR with the edits preserved? Will I be able to open the PSD files in LR with the edits preserved? Any import/catalog etc issues between PSE10 and LR?

Lightroom has no problem reading DNG files. Whether the edits you have done to the DNGs you have originally edited in Photoshop Elements 10 I'm not sure. ACR edits made to DNGs are saved in the DNG file itself, as apposed to a XMP sidecar file, so LR should see those edits. At the worst you will get an exclamation mark in the upper right hand corner of the imported DNGs and clicking on that exclamation mark you will get a dialog box asking you to either import settings from disk or overwrite settings. you would select import settings from disk.

  • Will I be able to open InDesign CS6 files from the latest CC version?

Considering Cloud purchase and want to check compatibility. Will I be able to open InDesign CS6 files from the latest CC version? Thanks for any advice on this.

You can open files in CC from CS6 and earlier.
Due to updates to the text engines you might notice a text reflow - note that text won't reflow until it's interacted with.

  • Cant open PC Paint files with Appleworks paint program

I have been using the very simple Paint program that comes with windows. I have finally made the move and ditched the PC for something more stable.
When I try to import my .bmp pictures I used to work on into Appleworks it insists on opeing the Drawing program that has no "fill" etc. Even when I open the Paint program and then "force" it to open a .bmp only part of the picture is shown. I thought that a .bmp is pretty basic and common file type.
Does anyone know if Appleworks can handle .bmp files and if not what are other options. I didn't really feel the need to have a $170 paint program for what I am doing.
    Hope you can help.
    Michael

    Dale,
    Thanks for your reply.
The problem is that I need to use the "fill" in the paint program.
I have actually just been able to get the file to load into Appleworks paint after reading about using the .pict save. All looked good untill I tried to fill. What happens now is that the fill is very chunky and does not bleed thru at all. This makes it pretty useless at the moment.
Same problem, with a twist now.
Looking forward to any further ideas.

  • Opening appleworks 6 files on iworks - pages

    Hi all,
Got a new imac after the sad death of my G5. Have downloaded my copied data held in cloud. I created a a lot of files in appleworks 6 using the drawing facility. All these files end in '.cwk'
Iworks pages will not open them as they're not a word processing document.. Has anyone any idea of how I can rescue these old appleworks 6 files? Thanks Jenny

    OK.
I'm familair with AppleWorks' capabilities; use it all the time.
The problem comes from the formatting used by AW for the various kinds of files it can create, hence my request for clarification.
AW word processing files can be opened by Pages.
AW spreadsheets can be opened by Numbers.
AW presentations can be opened by Keynote.
Unfortunately, there is no equivalent in iWorks for AW drawing-type documents.
I just created a simple drawing file in AW (.cwk suffix type) and tried to find something other than AW which could open it. Unfortunately I could not - none of the iWorks modules could open it, and even GraphicConverter could not open it.
I re-opened the file in AW and re-saved it as a JPEG file via a Save As, and Preview had no problem opening it. Of course, it opened as a static image file; none of the object elements in the original file were addressable as such.
It looks like for your purposes you will probably need to install AppleWorks 6 on your new machine.
I installed the version I use in OS X 10.6.7 by simple drag-copying from a drive to which I had copied all the stuff on my G4 running OS 9. It was a new enough version of AW 6 that it was an "application package program" (.app) version, which meant that it includes versions for both OS 9 and OS X. The specific version I have is AppleWorks v. 6.2.9 (which showed as 6.2.8 in OS 9).
Note that AppleWorks is a PPC program, meaning it is not native to an Intel machine. When I went to run it the first time on my iMac, OS X stated it needed to install Rosetta in order to be able to use that program; I clicked OK and it did that. The importance of this is that AW6 will not run in Lion, since Lion does not support Rosetta.
As an alternate you could find someone who has AppleWorks 6 available to them. They could take those files and convert them (via a Save As) to JPEG or other format usable by the software you have.
Note that you can open/create a document in Pages, and then drop a JPEG into it. The Pages wp doc will then contain that picture.

  • How can I open AppleWorks 6 files using Pages or Word?

I am currently running Mac OS X v.10.4.11, but I am turning in my old mac for a new one in about a week. Almost all of my important files are AppleWorks 6 files and my new mac will not have this program since it has been replaced with Pages. I currently have AppleWorks 6, Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, and Pages 08 on my old mac. I am unsure as to what applications I will have on my new mac (I am a teacher and the macs are school computers so I do not have control over the software), but I think it will have both Word 2008 and Pages 08 or 09. So far I have not had any luck opening my AppleWorks files in Pages or Word. I have been able to copy and paste the AppleWorks files into Pages (they are mostly Draw documents, not simple word processing), but they become an image so I cannot edit the content. I need to be able to edit my documents on my new computer and do not have time to open each AppleWorks file and copy it to Pages anyway. Any suggestions to help me with this compatibility problem?

AppleWorks will run fine on your new Mac, though if you transfer it from the old one you should delete it from there to stay within the terms of the licence. You would need to copy the Appleworks folder over, not just the application.
Pages can open Appleworks 6 word processing documents, Numbers can open Appleworks 6 spreadsheets. It's possible to open AW Draw documents in Eazydraw, or in Pages through a workaround. Nothing will open AW Database documents.
I have written a detailed article going into the process of migrating from Appleworks, including the workaround for Draw>Pages:

  • Can I open Appleworks word files? I've read a range of responses, all conflicting.

I'm currently running 10.6.8 on a 27" iMac with an intel i5 processor. If I upgrade to Maverick, will I be able to open my Appleworks Word files? I never used anything other than the writing portion of the program

The biggest issue for me has been the lack of an Apple replacement for AppleWorks's Database module. That's the biggest reason I still have an iBook running Tiger (and an intel based iMac still on Leopard)—I'm still using one db file because of the formatting options available in the AW DB. Eventually it's going to fail. With luck, I'll have found a path forward by then. But I doubt I'll blame (or shame) Apple for my delay.

  • When I change anything in Develope module LR5 will not allow me to open a .NEF file in PS6

I am using LR5, ACR 8.2 Beta and PS6 on a MAC.  If I open a .NEF file in Develop Module and make any changes I cannot get LR to allow me to choose 'Edit in PS6". The option lights up but nothing happens when I click on it.
If I Choose a .NEF file that has just been imported and no changes have been made, LR will allow me to open it in PS6.  Also .jpg and .psd files will open fine in PS6 from LR5.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you happen to be using a new camera? If the camera you are using in in the latest camera raw that is available in LR5 but is not in the version of camera raw that PS6 uses, that's the behavior I've seen where Photoshop basically doesn't do anything. Remember that Adobe doesn't go back and update camera raw in the old versions of PS. I've got a post coming out on Tuesday that covers my experiences using LR4/LR5 and PS CS4. But the way that I get around the incompatibility is to have LR render the file and send it over the PS instead of having PS try to open my NEF.
I think typically what should happen if you open a NEF, make changes to it, and try to send it over to PS is that you should be prompted by Lightroom to see if you want to send over the NEF or a rendered version of the image with the Lightroom changes. Do you see that dialog at all?

  • Post-migration Network Issues with opening Appleworks 6 files

I just switched over from an ancient eMac to the new 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac for my primary computer at work. Ever since I made the switch however when I try to open older Appleworks 6 files I am prompted repeatedly (at least 4 times):
"Connection failed: The server "SPSP-EMAC" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
It seems like Appleworks is attempting to contact the windows server for SPSP-EMAC (a different eMac on the same network) in order to use the Appleworks 6 program.
I turned windows sharing back on the SPSP-EMAC and now I have to enter a password for the workgroup (seemingly to connect to the SPSP-EMAC in order to avoid the annoying pop-ups).
I'm not sure why the iMac requires this connection to SPSP-EMAC in order to run properly especially when Appleworks functions properly when it is not connected (despite of course the annoying repeat popups).
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

  • What application opens a .wmv file?

I've gotten several .wmv files in my email and being new to Macs I don't know what application opens these files. I can download them successfully however I always get an error message that says Saffari cannot open these files. Help!

.wmv is a Windows Media file.
You can use Windows Media Player for Mac to open those.
You might also need Stuffit Expander to extract the Windows Media Player file after it's downloaded.

  • Appleworks paint files- important

Is there anyway I could retrieve Appleworks or Clarisworks Paint files so that they could be viewable on my Mac? They were made between 2000 and 2006, but on a very old computer running OS 8, and then on a newer but still old computer running 9 and then early versions of X. They are very important to me and I'd like a way to retrieve them.

How about using AppleWorks? AW 6 runs on my Intel computer with MacOs 10.6.2
    Which version do you have?

  • Will we be able to open Captivate 1 files in Captivate 2

    Hi,
Can we open existing Captivate 1 files within Captivate 2? Or
is it advisable to wait for Captivate 2, considering it has many
enhancements? Can we for example, enhance previous completed movies
created with Version 1 with Version 2?
    Regards,
    Boxing Boom

    Hi Boxing Boom
Yes, you should be able to open them just fine.
BUT for anyone converting from 1 to 2, I would strongly
suggest making a backup copy before you do. The reason is because
the internal .CP file structure changes. I don't believe you can
simply open your .CP file using version 1 again. It is forever
converted to a version 2 format.
Actually I just tried it. You receive a dialog upon opening
that advises of this. In a brilliant move by the developers, you
have a button that allows you to perform a backup prior to
    continuing with the process!
    Cheers... Rick

  • Restart Lion without applications opening

Every time I restart my computer, iTunes and BBC iPlayer start automatically even though I have disabled the preference in the system preferences, general, and untick the reopen windows box on logging out. Is there a preference file that I can delete to get Lion to do a 'blank' restart?
The applications are not in the login items under user and groups preferences either. It seems that Lion is 'stuck' at a point that the BBC iPlayer crashed and restarts with the same problem, making it impossible to launch, delete or reinstall the iPlayer. I can get it to work for a while, but everytime I log out and in again, the problematic situation returns with iPlayer opening automatically, into the 'crashed' state.
    Thanks for you help!

  • Opening appleworks label file in new imac,

My christmas card labels were created in appleworks labels, now there is no way to open the cwk label file in my new imac. I don't have access to my appleworks in my old computer, can someone help!!!

    Hi hcz,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Appleworks forum.
Your labels will be in an AppleWorks 6 database file, a file format that can be opened only by AppleWorks 6. There are a couple of routes open to you:
    1.
Get a new AppleWorks 6 installation disk and install the application from that.
Cautions: The installer on the disk must be the OS X version. Early versions of AppleWorks 6 contained both the Classic and OS X versions of AppleWorks, but the installer ran only in OS 9 and earlier. Hardcore Mac had installation disks for AppleWorks 6.2.4, with a Mac OS X installer application when I last checked.
    2.
Find someone who has AppleWorks 6 installed, and get the labels printed (to labels or to a pdf file, from which you can print) and/or get the file converted to a format which you can open with your current spreadsheet program. Suggested formats would be tab delimited text (.txt) or MS Excel (.xls). The text file can be opened into any text editor, then copied and pasted into pretty much any spreadsheet. Most spreadsheets will also open an Excel formatted file.
If you wish, you may send the file to me. I'll return a pdf, a text file and an excel formatted file, and trash the original. If you choose to do this, you'll find my address by clicking my name (in blue0 to the left of this message. Please place "AppleWorks Labels" in the subject line of your message.
