Will any mail apps open to the inbox by default?

I have been using computers for decades...and have had my iPhone for a few years now. It was only a few days ago that I got my first iPad and was surprised by the "feature" that all of the mail apps seem offer...
I am talking about opening the app to the last email you were looking at. I tried a few different apps and they all seem to offer the same thing.
Why does it seem to be an iPad thing to make you go to your inbox instead of having it be the first thing you see?
Can anyone direct me to an app for the iPad that when I open it, I will see my inbox?
Maybe it's just me but I don't want the contents of an email being displayed on my screen until I choose...who knows who will be looking over my shoulder when the app is opened.
Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.
Scott

This answer does not help me at all.
It does not address my initial question...not even a little bit.
Me mentioning someone looking over my shoulder was just an example.
The point is, I want an app that opens by default directly to the inbox.
If you have anything useful to contribute, please do.

On my iPad2 the mail app opens and the page icons are there but no messages are shown. I know mail is being sent as I can access it in other ways plus the envelope icon on my homepage continues to show the number of messages received.
I have rebooted twice now but cannot think of anything else to do
    Help please

Go to Settings>Mail the account and turn the account off and then back on
Next delete the account from the iPad and reenter the settings.

  • HT5361 new message in mail- it opens BEHIND the inbox

Something just changed on my Mac - now when I open a new mail message it it positioned BEHIND the inbox and I cannot read it.  How do i make it so it pops up IN FRONT OF the inbox?  (that is the way it has always worked - I don't know what changed.)

Would you post a screen shot of a message so people can see what you are seeing? Make sure you cover any personal information using Preview. Post the screen shot in a Reply using the camera icon. Copy and paste doesn't work.

  • My Mail app opens unprompted everytime i reboot or awake my macbook pro from sleep.  This was not an issue until i shut down my laptop for the first time in a while 2 days ago.  ANy ideas how to stop this?

I recently shut down my MacBook Pro for the first time in a long time.  SInce then, everytime i reboot or awake my laptop from sleep, the Mail app opens unprompted causing my computer to slow down incredibly, and some apps to freeze.  I have no idea how to stop this or why it even started doing this.  Any ideas on how to get it to stop? Thanks!

I have this problem too with my Macbook Air. Mail opens automatically every time my laptop sleeps. I actually just asked about this in my own thread. However, it is not causing my apps to freeze.

  • Can't Download Mail when Sitting in the Inbox

After installing OS X Mountain Lion my Mail application will not download new mail from my IMAP account if I have the Mail app open and am sitting in the Inbox. Neither a manual "Get Mail" or the automatic 5 minute check for new mail will work.
If I switch to view any other mail folder (other than the Inbox) - the waiting messages will download immediately to the Inbox (assuming there are new messages to recieve).
Not a show stopper but it's annoying.

It's McAfee. A little while ago I noticed all the issues with McAfee involvement so I just made the recommended changes - after a few minutes of testing, that may have been the cause - will continue to check it out.

  • Mail.app shows my .mac inbox is empty.  all other tools show it is not.

a few days ago mail started acting strangely on my .mac account. it would indicate that i had a large number of unread messages in my .mac inbox, then when i looked at the inbox in mail, it would show up as empty.
i started to think that there must be some kind of problem, so i quit mail and checked via webmail. webmail can see all the msgs in my inbox. i quit and try mail.app again. same result (mail shows 0 messages).
i try forcing a "synchronize" from within mail (from the mailboxes menu). there is no change. i try a "rebuild" command from the mailbox menu. there is no change.
i try firing up entourage and it sees the mail in my inbox. i quit entourage and try mail again. no change (mail shows 0 messages).
i suspect that there is some kind of corruption or something either in the local state on my machine or perhaps a message which has some malformed headers or something which is sitting in my inbox and causing mail.app to be unable to properly download the mailbox contents.
i tried using webmail to go in and either delete the messages or move them aside to a separate temporary mailbox. back in mail.app, it sees the new temporary mailbox and at first indicates that it has ~40 or so unread msgs (which is true plus about 10 more read msgs), but when i actually click on the mailbox to look at it, it appears empty. i reconfirmed that webmail and entourage can both see ~50 msgs in the temp mailbox, but mail.app shows zero.
also, in addition, the same problem still holds for my inbox. so now when i send myself a test message, mail.app temporarily indicates that i have new mail, but then when i look in my inbox, nothing appears in mail.app. if i quit and go look at my inbox with webmail or entourage, i can see the new mail as expected.
i looked in system.log, console.log, and mail.log and didn't see any log msgs that seemed to relate to whatever problem mail was having reading the headers/contents from the server.
so i was trying to fix the problem by clearing out my inbox using webmail, but instead it appears that i have merely replicated the cause of the problem so that it now affects two folders instead of just one.
does anyone know of a way to definitively clear out a mailbox altogether on the server? it would be reassuring to know that there was not some hidden corrupt msg sitting in my inbox messing things up.
any other suggestions for how to get out of this state? thanks.
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

oh forgot to mention a couple other clear signs that mail.app is "confused" here:
if i right click on a mailbox in the mailboxes window and select "get info..." (a very useful command hidden in an odd place), it shows me that right now my inbox has 3 messages and my temp mailbox has 50 messages. but when i look at either of these mailboxes normally, they show up with zero messages.
if i send myself a test message and then tell mail.app to check for mail, the new message indicator comes on and my inbox temporarily shows up as having 3 new messages. then when i click on it, it shows up as empty and the new message indicator goes away again. if i repeat this it will say 4 new messages, etc.
so it's acting like there's some kind of corrupt partial message at the top of my inbox that mail.app can't read and keeps choking on. i've had this happen before on other imap servers a while back. for those servers, i had normal login access, so i could go and edit or delete the offending file. in this case (apple's .mac server), i don't know how to do the equivalent.

  • On launch, mail app goes into first inbox.

Is there any way to change this? Try this -- double click your home button and kill your mail app. Now launch it. It goes inside your first inbox, right? I want it to initially display the main menu with all my inboxes. Right now, I'm having to click back every time my mail app launches for the first time.
    Thanks for the help.

Dont' remove the Mail app from the recently used apps bar or dock and whichever mailbox you have selected when leaving the app will be selected when returning to the app. The Mail app is suspended when leaving the app, so removing the Mail app from the recently used apps bar or dock doesn't accomplish anything.

  • Annoying: Mail app opens randomly after screen saver login

    Hi
I have my security settings setup so that everytime my iMac goes into screen saver mode it asks for login password. Recently I have noticed that if I leave the computer unattended for a long period of time (a few hours) and come back, the mail app opens up. If I just go away for a few minutes and come back the problem does not occur.
Since I am not using the mail app and have not set it up, the setup account window is the one to come up.
I have checked the Login Items under Accounts in System Preferences and it's not there. I have also right clicked the icon in the dock and checked if it was set to start up automatically - it isn't.
I have read online this maybe has something to do with email alerts from iCal but I have not set up iCal to send email, nor do I know where I can disable that type of feature. This is happening even when iCal is closed and I have no events for that day. I've looked around in the prefrences of iCal and disabled any option that has something to do with email but it still happens.
The next logical step was to check Activity Monitor to try and see what started a process. You see I am originally a Windows user and have recently converted my OS religion. Back in Windows when something like this happened I had many tools that could tell me what started the application and even it's command line. But with the Mac all i have is the activity monitor and I'm still not familiar. I have clicked the process and then inspect, the parent process indicated launchd, pressing that lead me to another inspector window still without much info.
How can I solve this, it is becoming rather annoying?
Also does anyone know a better process monitor for mac? or how to use top on the terminal to get the information I need?
Please help a confused new mac user!
    Thanks

So I've tried both of the tips you gave my guys, but non of them works
But I've found out something. When I switch to different space (in spaces), than drop some file and then try to switch back to my mail space, there are 2 possibilities how to do it. First - I just move mouse to the space to where I want to switch, wait for a second and it switch automatically or I can move mouse to the space where I want to switch and than press spacebar to make it faster.
The strange thing with opening app from dock happens just when I press the spacebar.
And question for your other answer - yes, it happens just with apps in my dock.
    It is so uncomfortable...
EDIT: few days ago I've run OnyX (which was probably mistake) and this happens probably since than. I used it because Snow Leopard got little bit slower so I wanted to clean it... It might be because of that.

  • Help I can only have max. 3 osx apps. open at the same time ?

Help I can only have max. 3 apps. open at the same time ?
If I have 3 apps. open, and try to open a 4th. this message comes up :
The application "Mail" cannot be launched. -10810
Of cause if I'm trying to open up something else than mail, lets say iPhoto, it will say "iPhoto".
This is very weird to me, and I'm normally pretty good at solving issues myself, but I'm stuck with this one.
    Please help out

I've had this quite a lot too. Do you find that under these conditions you can't load a disk image either?
At first I put this down to Rosetta taking up a lot of resources. I was running OmniWeb with a lot of pages open in the workspaces so I've switched back to Safari until OmniWeb is UB. This morning I read that having Windows file sharing switched on helps to cause this problem. I switched this off, rebooted and ran disk utility to repair disk permissions and I've been running OK since then. I've currently got 13 apps open plus Finder and Widgets. They include 2 bigguns, Eclipse/MyEclipse and Visual Paradigm for UML. It'll probably stop working now I've written that.
I run a MBP 17 with 2GB memory. My guess is that Windows file sharing does cause problems. I just hope Apple has resolved this in 10.4.7... whenever that is.

  • Is Mail.app one of the "erratic" behavior apps with a reset system clock?

I am hoping someone can help with a fine detail of mail.app (v2.1.3) behavior.
I had an incident where an iMac sent out 200+ smtp hits a minute and was tossed of the network for presumed zombie spaming.
I think I have actually tracked the problem to an unfortunate conjunction of circumstances that is actually innocent (if still annoying)
Let me set up the story:
    1. This is a common use computer, so Mail is not configured (except that it is --I'll get to that in a moment) and
    2. Safari will invoke Mail when you click on an "email link"
Mostly everyone just quits mail if they goof and click an email link.
BUT some time ago at least one person invoked Mail and composed a message. This message, naturally, remained in the outbox ever since. That person learned that they can't send email that way, so ever since they just cmd-Q Mail.
BUT Before this person learned, they walked through the mail-config and told mail to try hitting smtp.mac.com:"nonExistantUser".
So that covers the lead-up. Two days ago, mail was invoked via a Safari link, BUT it wasn't quit, it was sent to the background.
Where it undoubtedly tried to send the outbox repeatedly until it was kicked off the network.
Here is what I don't understand:
Under this scenario of a mis-configured .mac address, will mail repeatedly try and fail to smtp at the maximum possible rate?
    OR
Is the one other factor I am about to describe responsible?
    The one other factor:
The clock battery is dead and there was a power failure at 4am that day.
The system clock reset to 1969.
    Of course, nobody reset it.
Is mail.app one of the apps that the finder message warns "may behave erratically"?
(a GROSS simplification) does it have a bit of code like:
    1 check time-of-last-send-mail-attempt
    check newest-item-in-outbox
if newest-item more recent then last-send-attempt
    do send-mail and record time-of-last-send-mail-attempt
    and go to 1
else wait X minutes and go to 1
which, if the clock was mis-set to 1969 would always record a last-send-attempt prior to anything in the outbox and trigger a send loop.
Does anyone know if either Mail is tenacious about sending to a bad .mac address, or gets ridiculous under this circumstance for bad-clock-set?

Update:  I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

  • Can't get links in my e-mail to open in the active window

I just upgraded to Firefox 4, and while I like how much faster it is and how much less bogged down my Vista laptop is (FF is open pretty much constantly), I'm still struggling a bit with some of the "look and feel" tweaks.
The big problem I'm having right now is that I cannot figure out how to get links in e-mail to open in the active browser window (they keep insisting on opening new windows, which to me makes for clutter). I'm using Thunderbird 3.1.9.

    Hi ,
1.Please do the message tracking for the messages which you have send to the outside world.
2.Just check is there any messages held up On the queue viewer in exchange 2013.
3.make sure all the required exchange services are up and running.
    test-servicehealth | ft -au
4.make sure all the required server components are active in the exchange 2013 server.
    Get-ServerComponentState –Identity "server name"
5.make sure you are having an enough space on the disk drive where the exchange transport queue database resides.
6.Just enable the protocol logging on the send connector and check the logs.
7.You would have use either smart host or your exchange server to directly communicate with the mail servers in internet .So please make sure the name resolution part is working fine.
8.Most importantly you need to check the send connector configurations and reach ability to the smart host if you have on your network.
Please feel free to reply me if you have any queries.

  • Mail app opens every email in separate windows on launch

I can't use my Mail app currently, as every time I launch the app, it starts opening every email I have ever received in cascade windows until the program freezes. Is there a way to reset Mail preferences or something? I don't have Time Machine working currently so that's not an option...

Nevermind, I fixed it by going to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars and disabling the Mail app for all my accounts and then opening Mail app. It worked fine, having no accounts there. Then I enabled the accounts with Mail app open. It seems fine now.
