Will aperture will ever have improved synergies with iLife?

Aperture is a beautiful piece of software, but it is really a pain that:
We can't aperture share its library with iPhoto! It is a big waste of time and hard drive space to replicate your library for the ones already both iPhoto and aperture!
IMHO Aperture should be able to interact with iLife: If you really want to use iLife to its full potential, you have to import your images in iPhoto. Let's say I want to create a website with iWeb, or include pictures in my podcast when using Garageband, why can't I use the pictures in the aperture library?
I guess merging the two libraries would really make a lot of sense...
Joe, if you hear me ...

Just asked that myself. Especially about PhotoCasting as a way to work with remote clients. It is not just about 'Aunt Jane' but a darn good business workflow to PictureCast right from Aperture. Wow, could I use that! To repeat: we collaborate on brochures, web and newsletter designs with distant clients. PhotoCasting solves a whole range of concerns if I can take client notes and 'cast' the work right back in one click and have them available to the client via RSS. One feature I would like added is that the 'cast' images have a choice of full or partial size in the same way as emailing. Our clients don't need full size, but only to see the images for approval. Of course that is a few steps away but exporting to a new 'hot folder' via Automator, but would be nice right within Aperture too.
There is a need to sync and play with other programs too. Maybe a one central library access for all programs that is user defined?
Good idea, workflow is everything these days. Anything that adds to that is just making more time and sales available. I would like to see Apple stress some of the business workflow, but I understand why they are going for mass appeal with the 'Aunt Jane' and not using "Business Clients"

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion with the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody. The Model 5,1 will probably run 10.9 Mavricks when it comes out.
10.8 Mountain Lion is a download from the App Store, the price is $19.99.
Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.8 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mountain Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mountain Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Is it likely that I will ever have an Internet con...

Just wondering if I will ever be reconnected to the internet again?
In our flat in the middle of nowhere in central Russia I had fibre to the premises installed the day after I requested it and at an exact time specified by me! It also costs less than £10 a month for 100 Mbps up and down with no data caps!
If they can do it in Russia (considered to be at least 20 years behind the west), why can't BT just reconnect my phone line to ADSL at the exchange?
I'm not a new customer, I'm an existing customer whose service has been disconnected by BT because of BT and Openreach failing to work together and stop taking orders to connect people to a broken fttc cabinet. So I can have no connection at all for 2 weeks but, I can't have a working on ADSL.
BT PLC is the pinnacle of everything that is wrong with this monopolistic type approach to freedom of choice. There is no freedom of choice here in the UK, for most of us we can only get internet access via our phone lines which are the sole property of BT Openreach. This means we cannot go to another supplier for a better service as essentially we are still getting a BT product supplied by BT Openreach. Albeit usually cheaper from other suppliers.
Yes I know my case is being looked into but, what I really want is the internet connection that I pay for!

If they can't get someone out to fix the cabinet, how can they get someone out to move your line back from the cabinet?

  • WAITED A YEAR FOR THE PRE ON VERIZON---HAS MS EXCHANGE PROB BEEN FIXED--WILL I HAVE TO REPLACE WITH DROID?

Well this is my first post.  Hopefully not my last...but we'll see.
I have waited a year for the Pre to get to Verizon and now that I have purchased it I find out that I cannot connect with our server to get access to outlook.  I have email and it seems to be working okay but if I can't get access to Outlook then the phone is worthless.  Has the problem with connecting with connecting to ms exchange been resolved?  Calling the IT department of the very large company that I work for to ask them to update ANYTHING to accomodate me (one person) is rediculous and they wouldn't do it anyway.
Sooo...is there any help for me or will I have to dump palm.  Had Treo 755 and it was wonderful!!!  No need for symantics...can I get to Outlook using MS Exchange or not.
Thank you Palm for you great service through years but Outlook is more important.  Hope I can have both.
    This question was solved.

Go to the calendar (or contacts app) and from the menu select Preferences and Accounts. You should see your Exchange server listed. If you do, then I'm not sure what's going on: you may want to go to call Palm/Verizon support and have them walk you through it. (http://www.palm.com/support and select your device and carrier)
If you don't then you can try adding it, but honestly it should have added both contacts and calendar for your server when you added the email account. I can't advise enough especially if a one-on-one phone or chat would be helpful, contacting support to work with you. Good luck.

  • Switching from PC to MAC -Will I have a problem with Lightroom?

I am getting ready to switch from a PC to a MAC ( I think).  I know I will need new Lightroom software.  Other than that, will I have any problems.  Will it read my files automatically?  Sepcifically, will it maintain my key words, ratings, metadata, and such?
    Thanks so much,
    Leora

No. There is a download for each system. What is common is the licence key to activate the install. The latest update issued today is here.
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
If you have a License for LR 2.x you can download and install its free and you can have it installed on two computers. One can be Mac and one Win or two on either system.
P.S The update is the full program so you do not need to install the original version, you just have to input the License Key. keep it safe.

  • Will a Refurbished iBook come with iLife '06?

I am looking into a refurb iBook. Has anyone recently purchased one and if so, does it come with iLife '06?
    Thom

    Hi John,
After reviewing the policies and doing some research,
the refurbished iBooks are not mentioned. Apple
considers their refurbished products as good as new
for the most part, but you will find your iBook does
not fall in the the qualifying family part numbers. I
suggest that you call Apple or go to your local Apple
Store and see what they will do. I am sorry if I
mislead anyone, there is nothing regarding
    refurbished computers in the policy.
    Here's an update:
I called Apple customer service last week to ask if my refurb iBook qualified for iLife up-to-date. The person I talked to spoke to his supervisor who said that refurbs didn't qualify because they were "used." I mentioned that some posters in this forum who ordered refurbs were getting iLife '06 either installed or on a separate DVD. So he put in an order for me, attaching it to my original iBook web order (to verify that it was purchased after iLife '06 was released). I just received it today, no charge.
So score 1 for the squeaky wheel!

  • Will i have any problem with dsl connection

I have a old phone line connection that connects directly to a bridge block conector not to a network interface box. Will this effect the quality of HSI, been using comcast for the last 10 years. I have to reinstall phone line to this block that was probally made in the 1940's.

If you are referring to the protector, no your DSL should not be affected by this.

It is my intention to buy a new camcorder and am thinking of a Panasonic HDC-TM900 but I have read is some of the reviews that there are some problems in downloading into FCPX.  Is this camera a good purchase or is there a better alternative at around £650. (in uS dollars I would guess at about $1000)

I have a similar model and it works OK with FCP X.

  • Aperture 3 not sharing updated Previews with iLife/iWork

I have been experiencing an issue with Aperture 3 since updating to 3.4 (and still with the 3.4.2 update I installed on 11/4/2012).
Basically, iTunes, Settings (Desktop/Screensaver) and any iWork app (including Keynote from App store) when loading in the Aperture library doesn't load images I've been adding to Aperture over the last 3 months.  It gets my photo stream, but nothing else that I've added since August (I've added hundreds of images, non-photo stream images, since then).
I've tried doing Aperture Library repair/rebuild.
I've tried deleting iPod Photo Cache.
    I even tried re-installing iTunes 10.7
What else can I do?  I installed Aperture before App Store was out, so it's not as if I can re-download Aperture from App Store and do a re-install.
Short of just removing Aperture, re-installing 3 from the original version I bought then doing all the upgrades, I don't know what else I can do.  This is extremely frustrating as I can't get any new images on to my iPhone 5 or iPad 3 and my Desktop/Screensavers can't use my latest images, even from Smart Albums (like 5 star album, which I usually use for Wallpaper Rotation and Screen Saver on my Apple TV).
Would love some help.  I was hoping Aperture 3.4.2 would fix this, but no.  I thought iTunes 11 might hold hope, but since all other iLife/iWork apps are experiencing the same issue it seems that won't help either.
    Configuration details:
    MacBook Pro 17-inch (early 2010)
    Mac OS X 10.8.2
Aperture 3.4.2 (library size approaching 200GB)

You really seem to have exhausted most of the trouble shooting measures already.
I've also enabled/disabled Preview Sharing...basically any troubleshooting I've found online I've tried.  Nothing is working!
Just for completeness sake: Have you also tried to rebuild the previews for your most recent images? delete them and recreate them?
Have you tried to delete the Aperture preferences, as described in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics?
Can you sync your new images, when you create a new Aperture library and try to sync that?
Can you sync your new images, when you sync from a different user account? (This will erase most of the contents on your IOS device - do you have an older one, that you can sacrifice for the test?).
    Regards

  • Will iTunes ever have 3D movies to view over Apple TV?

Do you think they will ever have 3D movies available to rent or something?

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert them; under Export to Other Formats, there's an Apple TV preset.

  • Does iMovie 06 Work with iLife 08

I have a PM G4, PM G5 (SP 1.8) and a PB G4 1.25. From what I have read, I am convinced that iMovie 08 will not install on any of my macs.
    See this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
I'm curious to know if iMovie 06 will work with the various components of iLife 08. If so it would be worth it for me to purchase iLife 08 since I only do SD video, have no interest in HD video and that way I could use the iPhoto, iweb etc components of iLife 08 with iMovie 06.
If it dosen't work with the other components of iLife 08 then I'll not but it. I'll wait until after Leopard is out in October and then buy a new iMac with Leopard and iLife 08 installed. Also by then the bugs in iLife 08 should also be documented and even some updates released..
    Anyone know?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Thanks Len and everyone who has provided input!!! I'm feeling much better that those of us who have older but still fine running macs with the ability to run leopard when it is released will still be able to use iLife 08 via iMovie 06.
Here is one final question before I mark this solved. I understand that when you install iLife 08 it leaves iMovie 06 intact. But does it upgrade the remaining components of iLife 06 to iLife 08? I have been in the habit of saving my current iLife suite as iLifeXX old and then doing an install of the new version of iLife. This way I would still have the old version to revert to and also have it available if I still had some old iMovie/iDVD projects that were still in the works.
It is very encouraging Len that you were able to successfully import an iMovie 06 project into iLife 08.
Just want to be sure before I do the install and all (except iMovie) of my iLife 06 apps have been replaced with iLife 08 apps.
Again, thanks for all the good news.
    Bob
