Hi Guys,
This week my girlfriend's parents found that the screen on their ipad mini has multiple lines across it / and is off centre. they are currently in the US the week. I've booked it into the Sheffield Store (the warranty expires in March 2015), I have all the original payment details etc - will Apple deal with me in the absence of the owner? Hopefully so but I'd like to clarify one way or the other before going into store! It seems very difficult to ask Apple non-technical related questions like this.

If you mean that you are going to an Apple Store to buy a new Mac, and you want to know if they will transfer your data for you then the answer is "maybe." Many stores will do that for you, but some may not. Good idea to ask first.

Perhaps, but maybe not, as what can they do with one with the UK plugs? I'm just saying regional things like that often have to be returned at a store in the country you bought them.
But, just go and ask as the worse they can say is no. If they do say no they cannot exchange it, then for very little money you can buy a UK-to-India plug adapter and use that charger in India anyway. Such plug adapters are only $2-$5 here in the USA on Amazon.

Only the carrier your phone is currently locked to can authorize an unlock. Apple can NOT do that.

You can try, but the iPhone warranty terms state that Apple "may" restrict warranty/service to country of original purchase...key word here is "may".

Create a separate user account for you. Launch iTunes, then Store>Authorize this Computer. Then:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:

Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

I just purchased today a refurbished Macbook Air from Apple. I need to have all of the software, program files, emails, and the ktichen migrated to it from my Macbook Pro. Will my local Apple Store do the migration for me if I take them the receipt for my Macbook Air?

I am certain they will, I am less certain they will do it for free.
I seem to recall their charge is $50 but this may have changed.

I have a Mac Pro. Bought it 1 year ago. Sys Profiler tells me:

Disk Utility tells me my two internal hard drives are as follows:

(which I think is: Seagate ST3500641AS 500GB SATA/300 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive)

(which I think is: Western Digital Caviar SE SATA Hard Drive 250 GB, 3 Gb/s, 8 MB Cache, 7200 RPM)
I want to add storage. My reason is I now use external firewire drives for photo, video files I work on day to day and I’ve noticed erratic behavior when running two or more. So I want to run from internal drives and use the externals for backup. However, when I look at what to get, I am stumped by the radical variations in prices for what seem like same or similar drives.
Here’s an example:
At the Apple store I get this:

Thanks for the recommendations. Regards the Barefeats benchmarks, I've spend some time trying to find the 10 drives test. I started trying to find this when I saw your mention of it in another post. The closest I come are these: "SHOOTOUT: Quad Xeon 3.0GHz Mac Pro versus Quad G5 2.5GHz Power Mac. Originally posted August 10th, 2006." And "SHOOTOUT: What's the Fastest Boot Drive for the Mac Pro? Originally posted August 17th, 2006." But these are a year ago. In any case, based on the latter, they say: "the overall fastest single 7200rpm drive was the MaXLine Pro 500GB. The second fastest 7200rpm drive overall was the Hitachi 7K500."
Can you shed some light on how come you'd go with the WD Caviar? At OWC, they list: 500GB Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500 SATA II 3.0Gb Hard Drive-Enterprise class, 16MB Buffer, 7200RPM. $99. (What's Enterprise?). Any reason for not going with that?

Bad screen. Will Apple Store swap my hard drive into new machine?

I got my Macbook Pro 15" a week ago. Within a couple of days it developed a prominent green vertical line near the center of the screen, top to bottom. I have a meeting with a genius tonight. I assume they'll give my a whole new laptop. Can they swap out my existing hard drive to the new laptop? It's not that I have a ton of user data, it's more that I have installed boot camp and Windows 7 on the other partition and it would be pain to backup both partitions before this meeting.

So I took it to the Apple store tonight and they're going to replace the screen. They didn't have one in stock so they'll order that and it will probably arrive mid-week. Then I'll bring it back in, leave it overnight then come back again the next day. Three visits for a broken screen on a week-old laptop! I'm not too happy about that but at least I get to keep my HD.

There's only one way to find out what Apple might do in your case. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
I will say though that I've had two iPads and an iPhone and my wife also has an iPhone. Total use time is 6-7 years and we've never had a cable tear or fail.
