The Apple Messages app cones with iOS 5 and later. That means a 3G and later iPod has Messages.
Facetime requires a front camera. That only the 4G and later iPod has FaceTime

    Ever since I got the phone I can not activate facetime or iMessage on my iPhone 4S, Every time I try to activate in with my apple ID and password it says waiting for activation and when I try to sign in a message pops up and says could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.  It has nothing to do with the network connection because no matter what wi fi I am on it says the same message. Help Please!

    I found the fix for the error. Took me a few different tries but I got it to work. You have to completely reset your phone (erase all content and settings) and set it as a, "new phone". I advise you to copy all the information that you want/need onto iCloud first. After I did this my facetime and imessage worked perfectly! Hope this helps.
    On a side note as well your contacts won't be erased either but save them on iCloud just in case.

  • TS4268 Why FaceTime and iMessage not activated with non US located Apple ID?

    I have an iPad mini and I'm not able to activate FaceTime and iMessage using my apple ID whcih has a country set as Egypt, and when I tried to use another ID with US as country, it working fine.
    Note: I was able to activate iMessage using the Egpytian ID before updating to IOS 6.
    I guess this is a problem with IOS 6 and as a work arround you can chnage the country of you ID to US (if you don't have payment details set) and it will be activated.

  • How to FaceTime and iMessage on multiple apple devices with one iTunes account

    We recently received iPad 2's for Christmas and was looking for some advice on how to FaceTime and iMessage on multiple apple devices with One iTunes Account (Apple Id).  I have created or attached other e-mail addresses to our apple id but do not know how to use them on the new devices.  Our home MacBook Pro uses our main apple id for FaceTime.  The iPads have been setup with the main apple id w/o being able to use FaceTime and iMessage.

    If you are trying to connect to someone with a different Apple ID, I think all the devices should work, but one at a time.
    The problem is when you try to connect between two with the same Apple ID.  Once the calling device tries to make the connection, it finds the second device to be "busy".  That is where each needs to use a different E-Mail address when setting it up.
    On iOS devices, when you press the Home button to exit an App, the App may still be active in the background, even when the device is sleeping.  If FaceTime or iMessage is merely being active that way, it may be enough to "tie up" the E-Mail address.
    From the Home screen, double click your Home button.  You will see a list of recent Apps along the bottom of the screen.  Press and hold on one of them until they start to wiggle.  You will then see a red minus sign on each.  Pressing the minus sign will remove an App from the list, and stop it from working in the background.  (Click the Home button to stop the wiggling, and again to hide the recent Apps.)

  • Facetime And iMessage (Wrong Apple Id/Password)

    Recently I've changed my apple id password for my account,
    But when i tried to re-login to my iMessage/FaceTime; it`s showing wrong apple id or password !!!
    i`v tried to use my old password but the same message is keep appearing on my iPhone 4s(iOS 5.1.1) And on my MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion),
    And tried to change my password again with no result, everything is ok for iTunes,AppStore And iCloud,
    The only issue is with these two services (iMessage And FaceTime),
    Is there a way to change my apple id password for iMessage separately?
    as my modest knowledge about apple account I know that this is a unified id and when you change the password it will be changed for all apple apps and service!
    Note: Please don't replay with simple solutions as (reboot your apple devices or restore them) or any user action because I've tried them on all of my apple devices and restored them with no result and I've tried to contact apple support and created a ticket #220407753.
    and they couldn't help me and they advised me to check with their technical support center in my country and i think this is weird and bad action from apple support side and the reply was:

  • TS2755 My iPod 4th generations facetime and imessage has stopped working!

    It was working perfectly fine yesterday night and I went to go and use it again tonight and it doesnt work. I've tried turning my iPod on and off, turing my facetime and imessage on and off, changing my DNS to that 8.8.8.... thing and nothing is working! Please help!

    Hi Friend,
    First, Where are you located and what country did you buy your phone?  Some countries have restricted facetime, ie middle east, UAE.
    Check if you signed in Facetime with your Apple ID and password (Settings>>Facetime).
    Check if you have signed iCloud in.
    Check that FaceTime is not disabled in general/restrictions. If that isn't the problem try changing dns servers on your iPad.
    Go to Contacts app and select the person you want call then tap Facetime.
    Change your address for your currently location. If not works, change it for your native country.
    If still not working, go to Settings -> General -> Date & Time -> Set Automatically: ON (Yes date time setting has been known to cause issue).

  • Unable to use my apple id for facetime and imessage.

    I recently changed my apple id so that I was not sharing the same id with my son.  Now I cannot use my apple id for facetime or imessage.  I can use my son's id, but not mine. (So no network errors, just an id problem.) 
    I am using the latest software - iOS version 8.02
    My time and date are correct.
    The error message I see is that my user name or password is incorrect, but I am 100% sure that I have entered it correct.  Same id/pw works for icloud, itunes, etc. 
    Same problems exists for iPad 3 as for iPhone 5.
    Is there some way I can reset my facetime/imessage settings and clear out any old data that might be stored somewhere (hopefully not wiping out the whole phone/ipad?)
