Will apple tv lag playing a movie from iTunes located on an external HD?

Hi!  I have recently bought an Apple TV 3 and am excited to use it.  Everything is set up and seems to be working fine.  My question is, I had started adding movies to my iTunes library and noticed the size is quite large (1.2 GB per movie) and don't want to fill up my internal hard drive space with these.  If I keep them on an external hard drive, still having them in iTunes but not copying them in their, will playback on Apple TV 3 lag at all if it is running from a USB 2 connected external hard drive on the computer?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks!

Many people including myself keep their iTunes library on an external drive. There should be no problem doing this.

    So r u telling me that I can only look at a movie from my iTunes account on the device that it was download from.  This doesn't set very well me.  U should b able to your purchase movies from your cloud.  Is apple working on this resolution?
    There is no resolution needed, as this is not a problem.
    I am saying not the device, but the Apple ID is what needs to be the same, unless the movie is rented.
    If the movie is rented, it can only reside on one device at a time.  But from your error message above, I don't think that is your situation.
    Your error message suggests a different Apple ID purchased the movie.  If you want to see it, you must use your computer's iTunes, go to Store > Authorize This Account in the iTunes menu on your computer, and have that purchaser sign in with their Apple ID and password, then sync your iPad to that computer.

  • Quick Time will not play HD movies from itunes

    When i'm on the road with my computer I like to be able to play my HD movies without having to open Itunes. So i use Quick Time. But with the HD movies I buy from Itunes this does not work. When I try and play the HD movies on Quick Time, the movie acts like it's playing but the screen is gray. The bar on the bottom displaying the time for the movie is going, but there is no video or audio.
    Is this a problem with authorization or something?

    I have the same problem,i have sync it to my computer and there is no problem to see it but on my iphone 4s can't find it,please help or I just never gonna buy movies from Itunes,i mean why is itunes so difficult to use?

  • Apple TV won't play my movies from iTunes

    I just purchased my Apple TV and I can't movies I bought on iTunes. I can see my purchased tv shows but the only movies available are rentals. Any ideas on how I can find my purchased movies?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    You can't redownload movies as you can TV shows, you'll need to play them via your iTunes library on your computer using homesharing.

  • I can't play my movies from iTunes when i connect to my HDTV.

    I'm having trouble viewing my video from iTunes on my hdtv. I have a 2013 MBP 13" retina display runing OS X Mavericks. i recently bought an hdmi cable so i can hook up my MBP to my HDTV and watch my videos from iTunes.But when i open my itunes and try to play a video is just shows the play and its black. no maker how much i press play it doesnt show on the tv. i disconnect the cable and it show on my mbp. but once again when i plug in the hdmi is goes black again. can anyone help me play my movies to my hdtv.

    What happens if you click play and start the movie and THEN plugin the HDMI cable?
    I am not 100% but pretty sure this is intentionally being blocked by iTuens as a DRM restriction by copyright holders.  Windows media player does the same thing.  You can not play movies or other potentially copyrighted content though the video out (HDMI in this case) port on the computer.
    This is a legal restriction Apple is under.  Not something they do by choice.  One simple way around it would be to by an AppleTV.  They are $100 and let you play your iTunes, iPhoto, etc. content on your TV.  It would also be much more convent since it is meant for this and would let you control the content via remote control.

  • Trouble with Playing Rental Movies from iTunes

    I rented a movie on iTunes (on my apple TV). It started to play after about 5 minutes, no problem. Then after about 50 minutes, I went into Menu, by mistake while trying to pause the movie.... That's it.... cant get back to the movie afer that.
    The movie was no where to be found. When i searched again and found the movie, it allowed me to rent it again - on selecting play option, it said movie already rented but not download and to 'download' it go into Menu>iTunes Store>Check for Rentals.
    I do that and it just seems to go on endlesslu without anything happening.
    Why cant i just play the movie again?
    Any suggestions please

    This got sorted out.
    I chose a diffent itunes store.
    then came back to the original store and i can view the rental movies

  • Apple TV won't stream movies from itunes since installing latest update

    I recently updated my Apple TV and have since been unable to stream movies from my iTunes library. Itunes and all other software is up to date. I even downloaded Mountain Lion OS just in case. Netflix and movie trailers work fine. Streaming from my computer seems to be the only problem.

    I have since purchased a new apple tv which had worked fine until the update was offered. I downloaded the update and the problem happens again on a brand new machine.
    Since then I have spent 2 hrs on the phone with apple without results. Followed by an hour on the phone with Linksys checking network issues. I was just wondering if this is a problem for anyone else? It's not a single device so it has to be a problem with the update intalled.
    Linksys believes the update corrupted the apple tv's firmware. Has anyone else been experiencing problems?

  • HT203180 Why can't my IPad play HD movies from Itunes out of the box. I have a new IPAD purchased in Sept 2012?

    I recently purchased an iPad in September 2012. Tonight I thought I would download Spiderman in HD and take advantage of the iPad to view it. After I paid my $5.99 to itunes and downloaded the movie I found I can't get it to run.
    What a disappointment. I always had faith in apple until now. I lost two hours of my life looking around for a solution to this and found none.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Why I cannot download-buy-play HD movies from iTunes ?

    Hello Apple Support Community,
    Please, help me to understand this better by answering the following questions:
    1- Is Mandatory to have an HDCP-capable HD Televisión ?
    2 - Is it necessary to always connect the laptop to such TV ?
    3 - Can this type of video quality be downloaded-bought-played in the laptop alone (without having to connect it to the HD TV) ?
    4 - Is there any driver that can be installed in the laptop to get rid of the HDTV ?
    Common Laptop Tech Specs used in my case:
    * Gateway NV55C series (HDCP capable via HDMI)
    * 8 GB in RAM
    * Plenty of free HDD.
    * HMDI port
    * Intel Pentium P6100 Processor - Dual Core
    * Windows 7
    Your help is welcome.
    Thanks,

  • What extra equipment do I need to play purchased movies from itunes on my tv?

    What extra equipment is needed to play itunes purchased movies to the tv?

    A couple of options, but both assume you have a TV with an HDMI port:
    Purchase a VGA Adapater and plug the iPad into the TV's HDMI port. $49 US, not inlcuding the HDMI cable
    Purchase an AppleTV. A bit more expensive than the cables, but provides quite a bit more functionaility (including the ability to view purchased movies without the iPad). Runs $99 US. Also allows for using AirPlay
    There are some third party devices (BlueRay players, for example) that support AirPlay, but probably more cost than you want to get into.
