Will apple tv version 1 run hulu plus

I am using a Apple Tv generation 1 to have composite video instead of HDMI to connect to a lower resolution tv. I want to use Hulu Plus which does run on later generation Apple Tv's. When I start up the Apple Tv I do not see Hultu as a supported program, under Interned I see Itunes and Radion. Is there a way to update the software on the Apple Tv generation 1 to be able to access Hulu Plus

No the AppleTV has not been updated for some time and will not be updated.

  • Will Apple TV Version 1 Upgrade to Provide HBO GO?

    Here's the situation:
I just moved into a new condo where the previous owner very generously left behind his entire TV-Audio setup.  There's some great stuff, though it's all a bit outdated.  Among the treasures is an Apple TV box, version 1.
When I first accessed Apple TV I discovered it was running software version 2.4.  This means I can watch YouTube, purchase streaming media via the iTunes Store, access my PC's iTunes music and video libraries via WiFi and a few other things.  Very nice, and it's all working fine.
But I also want to stream HBO GO, and it's not offered in software version 2.4 for ATV v.1.  Would it be offered if I upgrated the ATV software to the latest and greatest?  I have no idea, and I haven't been able to find out from reading this forum or any other place I can find on the web.  So why not just upgrade and see?  Apparently I can't.
ATV tells me that an upgrade is available and I choose it and it downloads via WiFi -- takes a good while -- and then when it comes time to install I get a warning that the system may restart several times during the upgrade process.  And then it does restart, and then I see a picture of an AppleTV v.1 with a blinking question mark above it and that's where everything stops.  Apparently I can watch that blinking question mark all day and nothing will happen.  Then I have to unplug the ATV to reboot and I find myself right back at software version 2.4 with the system asking me once again if I want to upgrade.
    So...two questions:
    1) Is there a way to force my ATV to upgrade?  With no danger of bricking it?
    2) Is there really even an upgrade for ATV v.1 that will give me HBO GO capability?
    And...an answer to a question I'm anticipating:
Why not just buy a new ATV v.3 because, I mean, they're only about $100?
Because I want analog output and ATV v.3 doesn't offer analog.  It's a long story and it's related to my Denon amplifier which won't output digital sound (HDMI or optical) to Zone 2 and I want to use that Zone 2 feature for the speakers on my deck and yes I could get a switcher box to solve that problem but still I want to watch HBO GO anyway so....
Can Apple TV version 1 be upgraded to provide HBO GO?  And if so, what do I need to do to stop getting stuck at the blinking question mark?  Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    1) No.
    2) No.

  • Will Apple TV gain support for Hulu?

My family has a BluRay Player, a Wii and an Apple TV.  We can get Netflix on all of them, and Hulu Plus on the BluRay.  I want to know if Apple TV will gain Hulu Plus Support.  I also would like to know if the iPod Touch 4G will gain AirPlay Mirroring support.

This is a user forum, no one here can answer your question regarding Hulu.
As for the iPod mirroring, no. It's processor intensive and is limited to iPhone 4S and iPad 2 since they are more powerful and can handle it.

  • Can i get hulu plus with apple tv

Before I invest in an apple tv can you get Hulu Plus.

May I ask, then, what's the point of getting Apple TV? I'm not trying to be a smarty pants. I honestly need to know because we're searching for a Cable TV alternative.
    Thx.

  • HT201272 I had hulu plus app downloaded, now it won't let me because it says I need iOS 5 ! I didn't need iOS 5 last month&its 2nd time I took app off because of problems w/hulu&thats what they said to do!! Can anybody help me&my 2nd generation iPhone ?!

Does anyone know why I can't upload hulu app on my 2nd Gen. iPhone ? I did it b4 on same phone&know it won't let me! Ive uploaded other apps w/out iOS 5&now I can't find any apps to download since I removed Hulu!

The current version of the Hulu Plus app requires iOS 5 or later which will not run on an iPhone 3G, if that's the model you have. If you kept a backup of the old version of the app, you can probably put that back into iTunes and sync it to your iPhone, though whether it will still work with Hulu I can't say.
    Regards.

  • Will apple be able to work with AMD also?

    Hi,
Will apple be able to run on AMD processor chips also when it comes out for intel chips?

The MacTel will have an Intel processor and another chip intended to limit OS X and Apple software to running only on MacTel machines. How difficult it will be for hackers to break that protection to allow OS X and Apple apps to run on WinTel and WinAMD boxes only time will tell but Apple does not intend to make it easy because they are first and foremost a hardware manufacturer and that is where their profit lies.

Hi there, I have a 2009 Macbook - running on OS X V.10.6.8... but I'm looking at upgrading the Operating System to V.10.10. Will your latest version of LIghtroom (the one I can currently get a free one month trial of from your site) work with Apple's latest operating system - Yosemite V.10.10? Or will LR only work with V.10.7, 10.8 or 10.9?
    Thanks, Seamus

Hey, problem solved. One of the drives was faulty. I erased the 2nd drive (which was showing up as the degraded raid slice), deleted the RAID set and restored the 2nd drive from a back-up disk image. After that, when I booted using 'option' I was presented with two boot disks but only one that worked. And when it did boot  up only the reformatted disk was showing in Diskutil so I'm guessing the second one is knackered. With it still in place the server still wouldn't boot up from a full shutdown, but the moment it was removed it booted up no probs. Wakes up from sleep as well so it seems sorted.
So now just need to decide whether I'll bother with replacing the second drive or just use an external back-up. I have just bought a 1TB drive to back up to so will probably just go with that.
Btw, is there anyway I can test the drive I removed to see if can be saved?
Thanks for all your help. Your siamese twin comment was the push I need to erase the drive, I'd be holding off before that.

  • When will Hulu Plus be available on the Apple TV?

I have not purchased an Apple TV yet because I have been waiting for it to support Hulu Plus.  Does anyone know if this will be available soon??

Your guess is as good as anyones. Whenever apple and Hulu reach a deal I guess. I'm hoping come October, new stuff will be brought to the atv.

  • How can I get AirPlay mirroring to fill widescreen? It works automatically for apps built for apple tv, but not Hulu Plus, for example, which letterboxes.

Airplay mirroring works great for apps (mostly video-related ones) with native Apple TV support, but for other apps - most notably Hulu Plus, it will only show letterbox on my 16:9 plasma TV. Again, my movies, tv shows and in-app videos like in CNN where there's a built-in AirPlay support will fill my widescreen, but apps that don't (Hulu Plus, games, photos) will not. Do I have to change the aspect ratio on the tv to 4:3? Will changing the resolution help.
How can I get mirroring to fill the entire tv screen, regardless of the app? Thanks.

Guys. Let's not get confused here.
-AirPlay mirroring feature 'mirrors' what's on your iPad 2 or above or your iPhone 4s on to your big TV via the Apple TV black box.
-Video apps that stream video (like native YouTube app) uses AirPlay which is different to mirroring.
-When you use the 'mirror' feature you get black bars all around (left/right & top/bottom)
-There are Games that use the full screen via the AirPlay mirroring feature and there are games that don't. It depends on the Game. For example download Asphalt 7:Heat and you'll notice you get widescreen display on the big TV but if you play Batman or Max Payne or others that don't support AirPlay mirroring then it you get black bars left and right.
-What's neat about the AirPlay mirror feature is that when you play Asphalt 7 with 'mirroring' set to on, the race is shown on the TV while your iPad shows something completely different (the route in real time with your rear view mirror)
-The Apple iPhoto app on your iPhone 4s or iPad 2/3 with AirPlay mirroring feature on you get a different experience. All of a sudden it goes full screen, and you are presented with their iPhoto logo.
-Those who have the first generation iPad don't have mirroring capabilities so the Asphalt 7:Heat games feature aren't available or the iPhoto app features. With iPad 1 you can only stream video or music or image slideshow (which all stream full screen). iPad 2 and iPad 3 can also do this but with the added benefit of 'mirorring' what is displayed on the iPad screen. Some apps take advantage of this, some don't.
There are no special setting on Apple TV to get rid of the black bars. You may be able to change the zoom settings on your actual big TV.
Hopefully this will clear this all up. I have the iPad 1 and recently upgraded to the new iPad 3. I also have an iPhone 4s. Same issues.
I don't think the AirPlay 'mirror' feature has developed fully yet. It has it's limitations but also has its advantages.

  • Apple TV keeps Hulu Plus playing in background

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV, and the software is all up to date. I'm having a strange problem where the remote has stopped responding during playback, especially in the Hulu Plus app. I'll be watching a show, try and pause or rewind, and the remote won't respond. However, if I hit Menu several times, I'll eventually get the Hulu menus superimposed on the show that I'm watching. The show keeps playing continually, but eventually, I can get back to the Apple TV menu (again, with Hulu still playing and visible as the background) and reboot the Apple TV or start a show in a different app. That seems to be the only thing that will kill it. Has anyone else had this problem? I guess I can just avoid Hulu on the Apple TV...

  • Apple TV, Hulu Plus, and Factory Restore issues.

I have a Apple TV 3rd gen I believe. A couple weeks ago Hulu Plus stopped playing videos. I tried logging out and back in and when that didn't work I tried doing a Restore on the apple tv, but everytime it gets to a certain point it fails and tells me to try again. I'm at a loss of what to do. Please help.

  • Apple TV HULU plus

I have an older second generation apple tv purchased Dec 11, but am pretty sure that I should be able to use Hulu plus on mine. But there is no option for it on my main menu screen. What am I missing? Should I do a software up date? Will that fix it?

Where are you located? This is US only. Make sure location is set correctly via settings. Reboot device, router.

  • Will Mackeeper keep my computer running good or does apple have something better

Will Mackeeper keep my computer running good or does apple have something better

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Use your computer; don't fuss with it.
Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception to the above rule. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction. Use with caution.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    4. Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until sometime in 2011, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
    6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

  • Will Apple Genius Bar run Diagnostic tests on my computer or do I need to set up a special appointment?

I got my Mac OSX with Lion about 9 months ago. Two months after I bought it, it crashed. Apple gave no direct explanation and ended up wiping the computer. Two months after that it happended again. That time they gave me a knew hard drive but they still didn't give me an explanation. Then recenty it crashed (kernal panicked) after I downloaded the thunderbolt application. That time apple was able to restore everything.
Unfortunately, my computer is now showing many of the same symptoms (slow loading, safari freezing, applications needing to be forced quit...etc) as it did before it crashed the first two times. I should mention that when I say "crashed" I mean my computer wouldn't turn on again. Now I am afraid to turn my computer off or even let it go to sleep. I know this isn't good for it but I don't know what else to do.
So my question is, will Apple Genius Bar run some diagnostic tests for me or give me a special lesson? Or do I need to pay for a special lesson? I just want a trained person to run some diagnostics and go through the basics of updating, shutting down, and restarting my computer with me. That way if anything goes wrong they see it first hand.
One more thing, could it be something I am doing. I have downloaded Flash Player but only from the Flash website. But I have heard Flash/Mac problems. Or is there anything else I could be doing or downloading?

With Apple you Always Need to Make an Appointment. Otherwise they will turn you away. Even if the place is empty.
