Will applications update when downloaded with a different iTunes account?

Here is my scenario:
My girlfriend bought an iPhone. To sync her contacts I used iTunes on my computer, unknowlingly setting up her iPhone to have my iTunes account set up on it. Since I didn't realize my iTunes account was saved to her iPhone, she proceeded to download several free apps to her phone, all under my account.
After realizing what had happened when we tried to sync the iPhone to her computer, I did some research on the web and figured out how to get her iTunes account on the iPhone (I accesse the store on her computer and then synced her iPhone to it - problem solved). To allow her to continue using the applications on her phone, I authorized her computer to use my iTunes account.
My question: If her phone now has her iTunes account, but still has some applications originally downloaded under my account will the app store still check for updates for these applications?
Also, are there any other considerations I should be aware of with this situation?
Thanks for your help,
George

Free applications are easy to "re-purchase"
Lets say you bought Travel Planning software for $39 under an appleID with your work email address. Then you got a mobileMe account for personal use and that of course is an appleID too. Well, good luck getting updates for your $39 purchase. You "can" do it...but it means you have to logon to the iTunes store as the old account get the updates, log back into the first account to get updates for the apps purchased with that account...and then sync to the iPhone. Lots of fun.

You can't. The iLife apps get tied in with not only the Apple ID, but the Mac that they were accepted on.The Mac App Store will always remeber that the iLife apps have been accepted once before already on this Mac and will only offer to update them with the Apple ID into whose account they were accepted.

  • How do updates work if you download Apps with 2 different itunes accounts?

I am wondering what will happen when Apps need to be updated and they have been purchased on the same iPad but with two different iTunes accounts?
One person is signed in and purchases Apps and then signs out. The other person signs in and make purchases with another account.
When updates are available, you are asked to put in a password. Does it matter which password is used??
    Will this be workable?
    Thanks,
    Prea

Your purchases are linked to your own iTunes account so in order to update you would have to log in with the one account to update the apps purchased from that account, sign out, then sign in with the second account in order to update those apps purchased with the second account.
Yes it matters which password you use. Separate accounts will require separate passwords in order to sign in and update apps.

  • E-pub books: when I click on a book to read it, this message appears:  "This item was originally downloaded with a different user account or Adobe ID. To continue, please add that account."

I incorrectly replaced the backup for my iPad2 by accident when I tried to retrieve it to my new iPad Air.  It now no longer exists.
I can still see the icons of the books on Kalahari's reader. (Kalahari is an e-pub bookshop in South Africa.
When I click on a book to read it, this message appears:  "This item was originally downloaded with a different user account or Adobe ID. To continue, please add that account."
I know for certain that the Adobe ID (e-mail address) is still correct. See below.  The password seems to be the problem.  This appears to have been changed a few times over the past two and a half years.  Which one? Was hoping Adobe could help. (case number: 0214089318)
Can anyone please assist me to get back on track, what should I do to open and read my e-pub books again?
    Much appreciated.

  • Can I use 1 computer with 2 different iTunes accounts and devices? We're afraid we're going to wipeout one library or the other if we do??

My son got an iPhone and wanted his own iTunes account. Now his computer died, and he wants to connect to his iTunes account on my computer. When it asks to sync the computer, a message comes up and we're afraid either his or my library are going to be wiped out by trying to do this. Is it possible to use 1 computer with 2 different iTunes accounts and devices without wiping out one of the libraries? Thanks for any info.

If the content was not originally purchased/synced to the device from your computer it will erase and replace the content from the device with that of the computer. If you have content that you want to backup you can transfer purchases http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848 check this link out

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

You can't merge two iTunes accounts.

  • How to share apps between 2 iPads with 2 different iTunes account in 2 computers?

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere but I've spent a lot of time researching this and none of the questions exactly match my situation.
Situation: I have my own iTunes account, Mac and iPad. My Mom has her own PC, iTunes account and I just bought her an iPad.
Issue: I would like to share some apps with her, without her having to buy them all over again.  Since I'm paying for all her app purchases anyway, I would rather not pay for Angry Birds twice.  She has her own apps and music that I have no interest in, so we cannot share 1 iTunes account.
This is what I was thinking of doing from all the research I've read:-   Since I can authorize up to 5 computers or 10 computers & devices from 1 iTunes account, can my Mom sign out of her iTunes account on her PC, sign in to my iTunes account, download all the apps she wants from my account. Then, she signs out of my account, back into hers and sync her iPad.
    Questions:
    1) This (should) mean that her PC is now authorized with 2 iTunes accounts - hers and mine. In other words, she gets to keep all her content in her iPad plus whatever apps she wants from me.  Will this work?
    2) It wouldn't wipe out all her apps/music/photos etc during the sync, will it?
    3) Will update to apps I purchased in my iTunes account automatically also update in her iPad?  Or will the update only happen if she signs out of her account and in to mine again.
    4) If someone knows of a better way of doing this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks much
    Jeff

I do something similar myself and it works quite well, so here are my answers to your questions:
    1. Her PC would be authorized on both iTunes accounts. So yes, the arrangment you mention here will work.
    2. No, nothing will get wiped out from her iTunes library or iPad.
    3. The App Store on her iPad will simply ask for your password in order to update apps from your account. In these cases the authentication alert view will show your Apple ID instead of hers
    4. Maybe instead of using the Purchases tabs (since on the iPad there is an odd restriction to only one account and changing it renders the feature useless for 90 days, why is beyond me) use Home Sharing between the computers if possible, or put what she wants on a flash drive to take to her house.

  • Syncing an Iphone with a different iTunes account to my iTunes acct?

My son has an older model Iphone that I want to download my apps & music onto. The phone already has my ex-wife's iTunes account on it. When I hook up his phone to my laptop and try syncing it to my acct it always says "syncing" and at the top of my computer "backing up LP's iPhone" but nothing happens. Please advise.

The iphone will sync/access music with ONE computer at a time.
Move all of your music from your old computer to your new one first, then sync.
You can use your backup copy to move the music to the new computer.

  • Removal of apps which was installed with a different iTunes account

    Hi there,
I recently had to restore my phone from a iCloud backup. The backup contained apps which was installed by a different iTunes user. The phone keeps prompting me for the password and I don't know the password, I want to remove those apps from the phone so it will stop asking me for the password.
    Please advice. !

If you can't delete the apps without entering a password, that means restrictions is turned on. And you will need the password to turn restrictions off also. So pretty much the only way to get rid of them, is a recovery mode restore to factory settings. But that will delete everything from the phone.
Or if you know who's ID was used to download the apps, ask them for the password, or keep the apps it's up to you.

  • Can two users share the same mac desktop with two different iTunes accounts

I have a mac desktop, my husband and I share the mailbox for our emails but he has his itunes account on the computer. I have mine on an old mac laptop wHich is not working well any longer. Can I create a second Itunes on the desktop so we could both use the same computer yet keep our music separate

    You can.
Your home account can have its own hard drive.
iTunes Media Library can be shared. Or not.
Even have your own boot drive if needed and you have different applications and configuration.
The Mac Pro and OS X are designed for multiple users. Not being limited to just one (or two, now that SSDs have found their way into iMac and laptops) has allowed more people to off load their media and data from the boot drive, which is always good.

  • Is there a way to upload songs from my iTunes to another iPod that is connected with a different iTunes account without any songs being deleted?

My father has thousands of tracks in ipod nano uploaded from his desktop computer itunes, but he wants several tracks from my macbook pro laptop itunes.  Is there a way to get my tracks into his nano without deleting the thousands of tracks.  It seems ridiculous to delete all the tracks just to get a few more.  By the way, he does not have a desktop computer anymore, and the only way to get tracks is from my laptop.  Also some of the tracks in his nano, he does not own the CDs anymore that is why he does not want to automatically delete his thousands of tracks in his nano.  When he had his desktop, he had his own itunes account, and i have my own itunes tracks.  We want to share music although we have our own account. Please help. Thank you Apple.

No. If you have different iPod using a different iTunes acct. you have no choice but to delete the songs and upload your. itunes won't let you transfer songs from different iTunes acct.
