Will bigger ram make Lion better?

Hi, i have a Macbook Pro, Mid 2010 13".
Currently it has 4gb of Ram and i'm just thinking for the price this website is offering, should i do it? And should i all work fine? I work with Logic alot and lately it's been running slower (i've been using about 20-30 tracks). I was just wondering whether having 8gb ram will make my Macbook work more efficiently with Lion as well.

That's where i'm looking at getting it from...
Thanks

The Pro Applications are any Applications that are designed for professional users and usually have all the bells and whistles, but also a very steep learning curve: Logic, Final Cut, Aperture etc. You can see the full list here
There are many threads on how much RAM is need in the Aperture discussion group.
You were also asking about the quality of the RAM you selected, I hope somebody else will be able to answer that part of your question - I took my MBP to an certified Apple Store to have the RAM put in, because I did not want to loose the warranty.

  • Will more RAM make photoshop run better

    Hey everybody
I am thinking of upgrading to 2GB of RAM, i dont really no how this will help my computer, but if it does, will it make Photoshop run nice and smooth, or does RAM have nothing to do with that.
    Thanks everybody

More Ram will make everything run better including Photoshop. I run CS3 on my MacBook and it works great. As cheap as Ram is I would suggest you get as much as you can afford.

  • Acer Aspire V5-122P-0408. Will Windows 10 make it better?

I installed the Windows 10 Enterprise evaluation from Microsoft.  chrome loads in like 8-9 seconds. better than windows 8 but not as good as Ubuntu.  guess this laptop is going on ebay for cheap.

In case someone should stumble accross this thread.  Its not windows 8 that makes this laptop so bad.  Its a combination of the processor and all the bloatware that is included with the laptop bundle.  So if you followed my original thread I had wiped the operating system.  I wiped the hard drive completely and installed linux.  I thought for sure that I was going to have to buy a new key if I wanted windows back on the laptop. I contacted acer support and they said that it was going to cost me 44 dollars to have a USB drive sent to my home so I could re-install the OS.  I called the extended warranty company and they said they wont do anything for voluntary software changes.  Then I had a random guy on facebook give me a link to this...    How to Download Windows 10, 7, 8, and 8.1 Install Media — Legally  http://www.howtogeek.com/186775/how-to-download-windows-7-8-and-8.1-installation-media-legally/ I was able to download windows 8.1 directly from microsoft.  Make a USB bootable drive with software that microsoft gave me.  And to top it off, because the windows KEY is embeded in the motheboard I was able to install windows 8.  Completely updated to 8.1, then even upgrade to windows 10!  The best thing of all is that it wasn't boggled down with ANY BLOATWARE and it was FREE!! Acer.. I am very dissapointed in your customer support.  And your products blow!

  • Will more RAM make my Macbook Pro run faster/smoother?

I've been scowering the internet for information about the best way to improve the performance of my Macbook Pro. Not sure who to listen to.
    Here's my situation:
I have MacKeeper, which I run to rid my pc of extra files and junk.
I am running Parallels 9 and Windows 7 Ultimate (which I use daily for work purposes).
I more often than not run many programs simultaneously (which I think is the reason for its lag).
I am contemplating purchasing the max amount of RAM possible for my computer. Not sure what that is. 16GB, I think.
    Hardware Overview:
Model Name:          MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.26 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          5 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.07 GHz

Get rid of MacKeeper if you wish to improve performance: How to Remove MacKeeper. You can install up to:
    Maximum Memory
    8.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
You do not have sufficient memory to run OS X and Parallels w/Windows. A minimum of 8 GBs is required for decent performance.

  • Will adding RAM to my Mac Mini make it run faster ?

    Hey all,
Since I upgraded to Mavericks, I've started having two issues with my Mac Mini (mid-2011 edition, with 4Gb of RAM and an Intel i5 processor at 2,5Ghz)
    1. I use FileVault so I need to login as soon as my machine will boot. Unfortunately, after the upgrade, the layout of my keyboard switched to US. So every time I login, I need to type my password in as if I had a qwerty keyboard. Apple is well aware of the issue which is reported on many forums but still hasn't released a patch yet. That's a nice middle finger shown at their customers, but I guess this is customers service the Apple style.
    2. Next, I have a more embarrassing issue. My Mac Mini has become so slow that it has become almost unusable for many common tasks such as managing my photos in iPhoto or just surfing the web with Google Chrome. I noticed that doing almost nothing on my computer, I always at 3,5Gb and up of memory usage. As I'm typing these lines, I only have iPhoto and 4 tabs in Google Chrome opened and the "Used memory" line in the activity monitor says I'm using 3,99Gb of RAM.
So here is my question :
    - Could the lack of RAM be the main reason my Mac Mini is extremely slow and often freezing on commons tasks (iPhoto and surfing the web) ?
    - If so, would upgrading to 8Gb  of RAM make it noticeably faster ?
    Thanks !

According to the image of memory usage you posted, the Virtual Memory is taking 5GB of HDD free space to run (whatever was on, in the image) and the physical RAM was nearly all taken, with 3.99GB in use. Most of the items in the far right side appear to be other usage, some in MB. Where is that being used?
    {Not certain what to make of the other usages, because it is easy to forget what I saw when it isn't english. But I do understand several written languages and a few listened-to, even though I don't speak them. Even some dialects from Asia if I see the speaker. Except cyrillic Rus, greek, & a few others.}
Given the RAM is the least expensive way to add performance to a machine with hungry operating system and applications that also won't go unfed, this aspect and a good deal of unused or 'free space' in the hard disk drive both add up to better performance. Less RAM than optimal is a bottleneck, as would an overly full near capacity hard disk drive; when running on a slim margin.
Other browsers to consider are Mozilla-derived FireFox, Seamonkey, and iCab. Maybe Opera.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Will upgrading my memory to 4gb make lion run like snow leapord use to?

I downloaded Lion thinking I would be able to do all the cool stuff the commercial said I would. Well I can't, so now I have Lion running on a computer that doesn't seem to be up for the task. I read that the min memory is 4gb and I only have 2gb. I am debating on whether or not go back to snow leopard which will make me backup everything or just ugrading to 4gb. I just worry that since 4gb is the min ram it still will be kind of slow.
    Thanks

No really SL used way less resources then Lion does. upgrading will help some but Lion still won't run as fast as SL did on your Mac.
When I say more resources I mean more CPU cycles and accessing the HDD more along with using more RAM.
So it's just not the amount of RAM installed in the system.

As long as it meets the minimum technical specifications, although the more above the minimum you have, the better the experience.

  • Will upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion make my Lion Time Machine Backups unusable?

I had a situation where when I upraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, my Time Machine Backups became unusable. It says that the Backups were not compatible and it was really frustrating because I had to delete my backups from Snow Leopard and re-backup from my Mac with the newly installed Lion.
Will this happen if I upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion? Has anyone had trouble from this upgrade to Mountain Lion. Has your Time Machine backups been working fine with the new operating system?
    Thanks!!

Will upgrading to Mountain Lion erase all my files? And can't I only backup my home folder from Time Machine anyways? As long as I don't use Migration Assistant to restore the System files.
But yeah, will upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion erase all my files and accounts?
    Thanks!!

  • General questions to make performance better after a while in windows 8.1!

    hi,
to make the performnance better after a while
I know  that I have,to clean up hard disk first, but when I run harddisk clean up  wizard I see a lot of options that you can choose to  clean the harddisk , but I  know also  that is not wise to choose  all of this
options here  , my question  is which options in this wizard is wize  to vink and clean   when I want to make some space on harddisk?
2--I read also if I want to speed up performance I have to delete virtual memory then I have to run disk defragmentation and then I have to make a  new virtual memory which wil be at least 1 and halve time bigger than the real memory and it is
better if I make the virtual memory on a partition which has not  OS.   do you agree whith this advise?
3- I have also heard from MVP"rs that third party register cleaners wil make more harm than speed the performance!
4- how I know which services I have to enable and disable?
5-if I upgrade the memory from 4 GB to six GB for example wil that effect the performance?
6-is there also in internet options  any things to clean to speed the performance?
very short answers wil be enough.
    thanks

    Hi,
1,Detailed description of using disk cleanup in the following link, I usually just choose all, then OK, it will not cause any damages.

3, Many third party software can provide some help in some cases but not all, so be careful to use it.
4,For services, it depends on what you need, but some services running in the background are very important, when you want to disable some services, I suggest you first refer to some useful articles.
5, Actually I think it all depends what you want to do with your computer. if you use graphic programs like 3D Max or play games with high resolution graphic ,then you need bigger rams. if it is just for normal
use like surfing the internet, I think a smaller ram is also fine,

  • Faster processor or bigger ram?

    dear forum,
i asked basically the same question some days ago, but i didn't have a satisfying answer, so here i am again..
i wanna use LE on a MackBook. The question is, is it better to have a faster processor (2.0 instead 1.83) or a bigger ram (2 instead 1 Gb) ?
having both -unfortunately- is not an option, so i have to pick one.
    what should i do?
    thanx folks!

    Hey Richard,
no one is going to shout you down mate!
But if someone will, give me a call (I'm a big fellow)! :o)
We all have diferent ideias and tastes, the good thing
is to respect the other forum mates and learn from everyone,
we may not agree always, but we're here to help each other!
I've made a similar option on my laptop 1.5 GHz over the 1.65
and more Ram, almost 2 years latter I don't regret my decision.
In my opinion (nook) if you can´t go any further the 1.83 is
a very good machine, and boy, with 2Mb of ram you'll have a ball!
    Best regards,
    Jorge

  • Will a ram upgrade help this computer.

My family has a 2008 iMac that I never use but my father uses for pictures, Skype etc. The specs are as follows
    iMac
      Model Identifier:           iMac8,1
Processor Name:           Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:           2.66 GHz
      Number of Processors:               1
      Total Number of Cores:               2
      L2 Cache:           6 MB
      Memory:           2 GB
Its running OSX 10.10.2 will a ram upgrade drastically help the performance, it is currently using 1.98 GB of 2 GB of ram when idle, any help would be appreciated 4 GB of ram needed or push it to 6 GB I read on OWC that it can accept 6 GB clarification on that would help. Sorry for the weird question I am a linux/windows user and I am not very knowledgeable with OSX.

2GB of RAM is the minimum system requirements to run Yosemite, 10.10.x. To get a better user experience upgrade the RAM on the 2008 iMac to 6GB, OWC (www.macsales.com) makes a kit for doing so. The link is listed below. You can also contact Crucial.com and they will sell a 1x2GB DIMM and a 1x4GB DIMM (6GB total) however they don't sell the two together as a kit.
The machine currently has 2 x 1GB DIMMs installed, therefore to get to 6GB both DIMMs need to be replaced.

  • Will More Ram stop the GB 08 painful slow down

Will More Ram stop GB 08 from running painful slow ?
I had 3GB of ram and GB on some songs GB would become painfully slow when it came to deleting notes, perhaps 30 seconds to execute the command.
The same with start and stop and many other functions like solo ect, I added two more GB of ram and it did not change this lack of processing problem.
In GB perfs I have Automatic set for all three catagories in the Advanced section
    Any ideas?

It's true that more ram will make garageband run better, but I'm afraid that's not true in your case. I have a 2 year old macbook that had the ram upgraded 1 to 2Gigs and GB did run faster under heavy loads but I would say your processor and OS are maybe a little outdated if you're running GB 08. Then again maybe its something else but you have more than enough ram in my opinion.

  • Will 256mb vram make a diff

I'm considering the iMac 20 inch. The stock config is fine for me since ram is easy to upgrade aftermarket. But the video ram makes me wonder. Is it worth it?
I primarily will use ilife, iwork, and some photo manipulation software. iPhoto is doesn't have enough editing capability for me (ah...if it only had unsharp mask and highlights and shadows it'd be perfect) So I'd be using either elements in emulation or the lightroom beta. I don't do much gaming. I haven't found a game I'm interested in buying in a bit over a year. So it appears that phase of my life is done.
So...what do you guys think? Buy and off the shelf iMac or do BTO to get the 256mb vram?

Thanks gang. I posted this question in a couple other forums and the response is running something like 10 to 1 to get the extra VRAM. ...and several have also brought up increasing RAM at the same time. You're right...it's expensive, but not too much of a markup as there used to be in the past.
I was basing my decision to go stock on fear...if I didn't like the machine or it didn't work, I could take it back to an applestore for return (with restock fee) or switch it out if it's broken out of the box. But if I customize it...it's mine. I'll have to repair it if I'm unfortunate enough to get a bad one. Even when I brought this up on the other forums, the response was to still get the VRAM and memory.
    Thanks again

  • Will upgrading ram improve speed in Mac and windows (VMware fusion)?

I Am using VMware fusion for music production and that program requires a lot of workspace. I have a MacBook Pro 4gb ram and when I turn VMware on it goes to 2 gb ram in Mac and 2 gb ram in windows. My Mac speed is normal when VMware fusion is turned off but when I turn it on my Mac is very slow. Will upgrading ram improve speed in mac and also in windows (windows is also very slow)
Btw my english isn't very good

Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM hungry.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
In your case it will most likely help. You should plan on at least 8 GBs or more, depending upon what your model supports.

  • I have a problem, i bought lion but when i want to install he said me i need to "download osx lion server" i'm running with the last lion beta. how to update please?

i have a problem, i bought lion but when i want to install he said me i need to "download osx lion server" i'm running with the last lion beta. how to update please?
ps: sorry for my english :S

You apparently are using a version of OS X you did not purchase using your Apple ID. Although you can download Mavericks you cannot install it over your current system. You must repartition your hard drive, then reinstall the version of OS X originally installed when it came new from the factory. That would be on the installer discs that should have come with the computer. If the computer did not come with discs from the factory but OS X was pre-installed (Lion or Mountain Lion) then you can perform an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
