Will bluetooth make reception better?

I wonder if this is even possible, BUT...
is it possible that my new bluetooth headset makes my iPhone reception better???
I have cruddy reception in my house. All over my house it's terrible. BUT, whenever I use the bluetooth in the house, I've noticed that I can hear everyone clearly and they can hear me. Before, I'd have to walk outside onto the front lawn for conversations. The bluetooth conversations are the first ones I've actually had inside my house with the iPhone.
If it is the bluetooth, why?

There are three antennas in the iPhone: *GSM/EDGE 850/900 MHz*, *GSM/EDGE 1800/1900 MHz*, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. So it's difficult to see how using the bluetooth headset would affect GSM reception, unless the iPhone is delivering more power overall to boost signals when bluetooth is turned on. You should be aware that Bluetooth is a major battery drainer, as is Wi-Fi, so if you are resorting to this, then expect to see your battery life affected. Still, if this is the only way that you can get better reception, then I guess it's better to have it turned on rather than to risk dropped calls.

  • Will Lion make FCPX better?

    Hi Guys
I'd appreciate any thoughts whatsoever to help unscramble my brain regarding my below query about Final Cut Pro X, which I currently do not own (have FCS3).
Based on the short article below, thanks to the imminent arrival of MacOS X Lion, could 3rd parties do "interesting things" to Final Cut Pro X?
"In MacOS X Lion, AppleScript apps have access to all the operating system class libraries. Third parties might be able to do interesting things with AppleScript access to Final Cut Pro X data using specialised commands in an AppleScript menu within the application."
    http://alex4d.wordpress.com/2011/07/18/secret-fcpx-xml-multi-user-editing/
I'm no programmer, but by "interesting things" I'm wondering whether 3rd parties might be able to bring extra features to the color grading aspects of FCPX and also extra features to the sound editing aspects of FCPX?
I'm thinking in terms of how programmers create extensions for the likes of Chrome and Firefox. Do you think something like this could be possible with Final Cut Pro X thanks to Lion? If this was possible, could it make FCPX a much more attractive proposition for professional editors?

    Hi
I'm also getting Choppy playback working on my mac mini, even using proxy.
(at home) I'm on FCPX 10.0.3,  OS 10.6.8
Mac Mini 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB Ram, but only 256MB VRAM.
Is the small VRAM causing this issue? I've been editing the same project from a FW800 Hard Drive for several days and never get the type of choppy playback when at work on an 2010 model iMac. Same version of FCPX and 10.6.8.  That's all I know at the moment im afraid. I can update the iMac details tomorrow morning.
Do I need a faster Mac Mini at home? Should I go to Lion?
Any help will be very much appreicated.

  • When will apple make a better call record and control app

really the call record is so poor that i need to find an app to keep my call records (and there is non available in the store), its a smartphone that cannot memorize phone calls and when they were made older than 2 weeks or more than a certain number of calls.

No one here would know Apple's future plans and speculation is prohibited. You can submit feedback requesting such a feature here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
The call log is not limited by time. It holds the last 100 calls.
    Best of luck.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Itunes doesn't work well with icloud - will Match make it perfect?

I was quite excited by the security and convenience possibilities of icloud and music. I am very disappointed that I have to buy a yearly subscription service to get if to work properly.
I am about to go through the six steps to get match for itunes working. And *that* requires a computer that I don't have.
Background: When I heard about icloud I thought 'What a great concept! I can backup everything - I lose my phone, my music - no problem.'
Not quite. Aside from other problems with icloud (another post coming) itunes is NOT integrated with icloud. NEW USERS BE WARNED. Weird thing is that icloud works for everything else, even my 1800 videos and photographs.
I did a restore from icloud and about 30% of my songs did not show up, 25% of my playlists were greyed out (empty) and 15% had disappeared. Songs showed up in some lists (purchased) but not others (albums?) What the heck? I observed that going to my account at itunes store showed everything and there was a cloud symbol with a downwards arrow, i.e. download. I have slow wifi at home and no data service on my phone so this was a headache downloading all my songs one by one and reorganizing/creating playlists manually. Imagine if I had 50000 songs! This hassle was even though *all* songs were purchased from itunes. Nit a single ripped CD or torrented song.
Based on multiple previous disappointments and different stories depending on who I talk to at Apple I am skeptical of whether Itunes Match will truly make my iphone5 musical experience seamless and problem-free. I have 5000 songs from various sources (mostly ripped CDs from public libraries but also some internet sources) on a hard drive overseas and the concept of replacing them with superior bit rates and album art is appealing. But I am cautious. His do I know Apple doesn't change the rules 5 years from now - technically or legally? And if I miss a yearly payment will my songs self-destruct?

iCloud is not iTunes Match. The two services are seperate and distinct and one service does not require the other. iTunes Match does not use iCloud storage, nor is it a backup service.
iTunes Match only scans, matches and uploads tracks in an iTunes library. It does not not do this on an iOS device. You cannot even purchase iTunes Match except through iTunes on a computer.
You should take a look at this page to get a better idea of what iTunes Match is and does: http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

  • Will Yosemite Make My Computer Faster or Slower?

I have been holding off for quite a while when Yosemite came out.  I tried the beta, but quickly reverted back to Mavericks because of that pesky expand button.  That's not why I'm here though.  I need to know if and when I download Yosemite again, will it make my 2011 MBP 13 inch faster or slower?  I heard Yosemite is a RAM hog, but I have 16 GB of RAM, so I don't think that should be an issue.  What do you all think?  I can give more information on the system if you need.
Edit: I should also mention I plan on using the computer mainly for gaming.  It responds well to most games already, but can have (very small) issues if running skyrim or other higher quality 3D games.

I heard Yosemite is a RAM hog,
That is a misconception propagated by people who do not understand that Apple memory management changed with OS 10.9 Mavericks. For more efficient use of RAM, Mavericks and Yosemite now claim a lot of the free RAM for faster access. This Apple article may help you understand it:
How to use Activity Monitor - Apple Support
The new metrics for evaluating RAM usage are Swaps and Memory Pressure as shown in the little chart at the bottom of the Activity Monitor window when you have the "Memory" tab selected.
Within the last six weeks, I upgraded two of our Macs to Yosemite and see no difference in performance from the prior OS versions installed: 10.9 on a 2012 non-Retina Macbook Pro and 10.8 on a 2011 iMac. Both have the entry-level processors for their respective models, the 2.5Ghz i5.
Neither computer has third-party anti-virus maintenance software, not do that have the questionable software that comes bundled with "name-brand" external hard drives.

  • How could I make Siri better?

On the Siri official page, Apple states that Siri gets better by learning owners' accent.
Here comes the question: how does Siri get better?
I mean, once you used Siri and found the words are slighty off from what you actually said.
Most people might just launch Siri again and re-spoke the sentence again until Siri finally got what they wanted.
Is Siri able to learn the accent from this action?
Siri sometimes got wrong on certain names especially they're ones Nickname and probably not even a complete word.
Then Siri tried to make the whole senetence logical by changing the entire sentence which will result something completely off the original given command.
Anyone knows how to make Siri better and more personalized?

    I'd suggest:
    1) don't have setNumeratorr and setDenominator methods. Make the numerator and denominator final fields in Rational. That is, make each Rational instance immutable.
    2) Give Rational a constructor that takes two longs. One is the numerator and the other is the denominator. The constructor removes common factors between the two and stores the values in their most reduced form.
    3) The add method can probably be cleaned up give (2).
    4) Don't name the argument to add "object". Of course it's an object. Call it "operand" or even just "other".

  • Helping make MoleHill better

    Hi Everyone,
I would like to thank everyone for trying out the two Incubator builds we have released over the past few months.  Your input and feedback has been invaluable in making MoleHill the awesome feature it will one day be.  I say one day because we are still hard at work fixing the bugs and issues you report!
To further aid this process I ask that everyone try the Zombie Tycoon demo game found here http://molehill.zombietycoon.com/
With each new release of the Incubator build.  If you encounter any issues please click the link 'Rendering Issues or Crashes?' at the bottom which will submit the information to myself and the Dev team to track down GPU specific problems.
In addition to trying the Zombie Tycoon game, I am always scanning the forums here, and many many of the posts have been very helpful as well.  So if you find an issue that isn't specific to the Zombie Tycoon game please post here or in another thread.  I'm listening!
Thank you once again, and happy gaming!

  • Future Direction - How will Oracle make this product accessible?

How will Oracle make this product accessible to the user community? Is this the type of offering where we'll be able to download the product (for free) from OTN or Metalink? The beta release shows a lot of promising functionality.
    Thanks.

When this product goes production it will also be free. You will be able to download the production version from OTN.
In the future it may be bundled with the database, though this has not yet been decided.
Also, you will see this database functionality in future releases of JDeveloper, as they are both developed from the same JDeveloper IDE platform.

  • When will Apple make an ipad that lets you make and receive phone calls?

When will Apple make an ipad that lets you make and receive phone calls?

The iphone is too small for me to use for the internet (maybe it's my age)-- especially for Facebook--where I am a Page Administrator, but the mini ipad would be just right for both phone and internet. I'll bet they make a new ipad able to make and receive phone calls right after I buy the current one.

  • Will installing Firefox 4 Beta remove Firefox 3.6.13?

I want to try Firefox 4 Beta, but I don't want to lose my firefox 3.6.13 with all my add-ons and plugins until I am sure they will work in the Beta version.
Can both be loaded at the same time? I am running Vista SP2 on a Gateway Desktop.

The Firefox 4 beta versions install in a separate program folder (e.g. C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 10) and doesn't replace the current Firefox 3.6.x release.
So you have both versions installed and you need to make sure that you click the desktop shortcut with to launch the Firefox version that you want.
Create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

  • Will Apple make me pay for Pages 3 just to get the bugs out of 2?

I'm another Pages 1 owner who is not happy with Apple's failure to produce a bug fix for Pages 1.
It's fine to ask for more money for new features, but I don't like having to pay more just to get rid of the bugs they've known about since the beginning (the Tabs bug, as just one example).
So if I swallow my frustration and buy v2, do you think Apple will produce any updates for fixing bugs in this version? Or will they make me wait another year and buy the software a third time?

Pages' update policy has been argued to death a while back.
It's probably not going to change, so maybe balance accounts against other options on the basis that this is going to be subscription software! Personally I find not so bad value at that, since other programs also become obsolete or get tired, or charge you more for an update than the cost of iWork anyway.
As to your question about "bug fixes" - free updates might indeed be made available to fix up actual bugs. a Pages 1.0.1 must have been offerred somewhere along the line, and there was a Pages 1.0.2 just before Pages was released. If this happens with Pages 2, you will get it from software update.
Wishlists about new features, or how the existing ones might be made to work better are not actual bugs. And often they reflect somewhat conflicting requirements. So Apple have to sift through these, work out a way to implement them - and most likely will be looking at another release before they get around to it.
For AU$119 a year - make sure you get the best value by putting in feedback to Apple (Pages main menu, Provide Pages Feedback). Or consider what the Applestore salesman told me when I asked about iLife '06, which I would be unlikely to use enough to stretch what it does. Just get every second new version, he said. So that's $59.50 a year. You pays your money and you takes your choice. On the other hand, in my opinion, Pages 2.0.1 really does owe Pages 2 users a thing or two - and I do hope Apple are getting on with it.
    Regards.

  • Having Dual video cards or SLI in premiere CC will it make a difference?

    I have the Geforce 980x
IF i have 2 in SLI
will it make any difference for my render time

See Tweakers Page - Exporting Style and Tweakers Page - What video card to use?
    Do you have at least:
    6-core or 8-core i7, overclocked to 4.2+ GHz or dual Xeon 10-core E5 v3 or better, and
64 or 128 GB RAM, and
Sustained transfer rates on all volumes of more than 400 MB/s, and
    32+ unused PCIe-3.0 lanes available.
If the answer is YES to all 4 points above, then a dual GTX 980 may - just may - be beneficial if:
you render for previews all the time using accelerated effects, or
you export from source to destination with rescaling (i.e. 4K to HD or HD to SD), frame rate changes, frame blending almost always.
If your workflow does not include these two points almost all the time, having two video cards is a waste of money.
Using SLI is irrelevant for PR, since the video cards are treated as separate components. If anything, using the SLI bridge can only complicate matters and reduce performance, because of the inherent overhead of the SLI design.

  • Will Apple make a desktop app for Beats Music?

Will Apple make a desktop app (OS X) for Beats Music? Seems to make sense. Can Apple make THAT kind of  decision, now that the deal is done? I would love to use it when on my MBP.

What apple will probably do is embed the streaming service into iTunes but no one really knows what will happen, or if they are going to keep the beats name for the service. They're rumors saying that apple will put beats on all iOS devices in the next iOS update so I guess we will see how they incorporate the service into their services.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
