Will Boot Camp be untouched during 10.7 upgrade?

I have a 1st Gen MBA running boot camp with xp.
Everything runs smoothly for how I need it... My question would be if I just upgrade to 10.7 how will this mess with my Boot Camp/ XP??
Is there anything I need to do BEFORE I upgrade to make the transition smooth??
thanks!

NTFS drivers, including Paragon NTFS 9.0, are not compatible with shipped version of Lion (once again, like every past OS release - it changed between working with the previews, beta, etc but 'broke'' with shipped versions). Same could happen with HFS+ drivers for Windows.

No. The newest Mac OS X version capable of setting up Windows XP or Vista in Boot Camp is 10.6.8, which is too old for that Mac model.
You may be able to use it inside a product such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion.

  • Uninstalling Leaopard. Will boot camp still work?

Hi I have leopard and boot camp installed on my MBP right now. I was wondering if I uninstall leopard and put tiger back on, will boot camp work automatically?

    Sam:
Shouldn't be an issue. Both are on separate partitions and unrelated. Just don't do anything to the boot camp parititon.

  • Will Boot Camp in leopard work with 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate?

I installed Boot Camp beta in Tiger. Then I installed the 64 bit version of windows Vista Ultimate. Many drivers were not installed such as the keyboard mapping driver. I bought Leopard. Should the version of Boot Camp in Leopard work with the 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate or would I probably encounter the same driver problems? Should I delete the Windows partition before upgrading to Leopard and then install the 32 bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate for all the drivers to work properly?
    Please advise what to do.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
since the 'new' BootCamp 2.0 also only includes Driver support for the 32-bit Windows versions, you will get a 2nd Encounter.
Is there a specific reason for you to use the 64-bit versions, apart from maybe the 4GB RAM 'issue' ?
Installing the 32-bit version and then the Drivers from the OSX DVD should give you all the drivers needed.

  • Will Boot Camp function after upgrade to Mavericks?

Planning on upgrading from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks.
I now have Windows XP on my Boot Camp partition. I also use an old version (2.0.8) of VMware Fusion to access the same BootCamp WinXP.  I rarely use Windows & I know my old version of VMware will not work. Would need to purchase a new version (6.x) for ~ $60.00.
But, I’m hoping I could still Option Boot into my BootCamp Windows.
Am I correct? Or after upgrading to Mavericks, will I be unable to boot into Windows w/o a bunch of fixes & troubleshooting?
    Regards,
    Steve

    Thanks!
    Fingers crossed.
As soon as I purchase iBank I will do the upgrade. Will make a bootable clone just b4 I do the upgrade.
Will run Repair Permissions as well.
    Probably late tonight or Monday.

  • Will boot camp work with XP

I have a new MacBook Air and would like to use Boot Camp to split the drive.  Will it work with XP, or do I have to load Win 7?

I agree with SP Forsythe recommendation, you can buy Parallels Desktop 7 ($79.95) or VMware Fusion 4(49.95) these programs make what is called a virtual machine on your iMac it's like any other program, but is is designed to run Windows and other OS along side of your Mac OS no need to restart your iMac, the main advantage.  Note: You will need to have a full version of Microsoft Windows.

  • Will Boot camp disappear again when update to OSX 10.10.1?

Hi, I just recover the boot camp bugs in Yosemite 10.10, and now Apple is asking to update to 10.10.1, will it affect the Boot camp again? Anyone can verify this?
    Thanks

but I'm not sure the Bootcamp partition can be backed up in the same way.
You will either need to back up Windows to an external NTFS partition, or use Winclone.
Are the developers of OS X aware of these problems?
There is enough evidence to show the problems. Some users have contacted Apple Tech Support.

  • Will Boot Camp work with the new Macbook Airs?

I want an 11.6" MBA now, but I want to be sure I can put Windows 7 on it if I need to. Will this just work like the other MacBooks? Does the new MBA software USB key come with the Boot Camp setup files? Thanks!

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on my MBA 11" using a USB flash drive and a program called rEFIt, http://refit.sourceforge.net. it's a free program that also lets you install Linux too. you can even triple boot.
i have had no problems with my MBA and i've had it for a few weeks now. it's awesome.
for those curious how i managed to install Win 7 via USB flash drive, i used a free program from MS that you can find here. http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool?err=t2#at2
    i hope that helps.
now i must go post a new thread with my problem of enabling AHCI on the MBA!

  • Boot Camp no longer available after Mavericks upgrade?

    Hi,
I've recently upgraded to Mavericks (MacBook 13" 2010). Since upgrading I have not been able to access BootCamp during start up. The partion still exists, but there seems to be some problem(s) with it.
I've attached a screen shot of the issue as it appears in Utilities.
I fear I may have to reformat and partion the hard drive again, but I don't have access to the Boot Camp disk (just moved country and didn't consider it to be essential packing....)
    Any advice would be great!
    Thanks,
    Amy

you can dl a windows 7 ISO online, you just need your product key to activate it

  • Will boot camp, VMware, or Paralles allow me to open a password protected powerpoint file?

Everyting I'm reading says I have to use either a windows computer, or have the creator send the document to me as unprotected.
Seems like if you didn't have access to a windows computer, and didn't have time to wait for the creator to send a new version, there would be a work around.
I've moved over Mac, and am trying to convince my wife to do the same.  However, she's concerned that since she runs her legal firm out of her home office, she will run into situation in which can can get something done if she's on a Mac.  I almost had her convinced this would never happen, and then she got this password protected powerpoint that she had to share with another attorney, who responded to her that when she tried to open it, she got a message that it couldn't open a password protected document.  I tried it on my Macbook Pro and got the same message.
Anyone know if there's an easy work around for this?
(p.s. I saw a post where someone used NeoOffice for a similar situation with a password protected Excel document, but since I'm on Lion and it requires a $10 donation, I didn't want to shell out $10 just to find out it wouldn't work.)
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Yes... and it works...
Because you really are running a full-up Windows inside a window running on Lion....
VMWare emulates a hardware computer....   and you install Windows, then Microsoft Office for Windows...
And  you end up with a "machine within a machine"...
    BUT...   BUT....
You have to purchase one of each:
       VMWare Fusion
       Microsoft Windows
Microsoft Office for Windows (not the same license as Microsoft Office for MAC..)
This won't be cheap...  it will cost money...
But I do it all the time...

You will need to install Windows on your computer in able to get IE.
In my opinion you should not be messing with work-arounds especially if the need is related to work or school. Just install what is needed and get on with work without potential issues due to incompatibility etc.
Unfortunately totally incorrect, please follow the instructions to my first post for the solution.

  • Will Boot Camp allow me to use Microsoft CD-ROMS on my mac?

Hi, was just wondering if anyone could tell me how I can use Microsoft CD ROMS on my mac? My Mac will accept the disc, and after trying to set it up it will eject the disc. Let me know, thanks.

  • Snow Leopard and Boot Camp partition

    hello all.
can i keep my Boot Camp partition intact when performing a clean install of SL?
does it allow me to format only the Mac partition of the HD, keeping the Windows (Boot Camp) partition untouched and fully functional?

I would move to SL if, and only if, I had an external drive with a bootable clone of my internal on it and had my files backed up separately on a second partition of the external. I think that there is enough risk in going to SL that such conservatism is warranted. I would not use time machine. Without getting into detail, it can be highly problematic. You will be able to extract your settings, files, and programs from your clone if you do the current version of an erase and install.
To erase and install, start up to your DVD and stop after selecting your language. Use the menus to start Disk Utility and erase you drive. Quit Disk Utility and proceed with your installation. At the end, you will be able to choose to reclaim your settings, files, and apps from the clone (leave the external drive plugged in during the installation).
If you do not like SL, then you can restore your internal using the clone. I would do all cloning and related restoration with SuperDuper. This app is up to date.
