Will BT upgrade me from my ancient Home Hub v1.0 ?...

I've been a BT Broadband customer for about 6 years, and I'm still using the same version 1.0 Home Hub that I got when I first signed-up all those years ago.
What do I need to do to get a more modern Home Hub from BT?
The one I've got isn't broken as such, but I'm a bit fed-up with it resetting itself all the time, especially when I'm playing online games, particularly those played viia Steam (which I do a lot). It would be nice to get one that doesn't reset like this, especially as I'm paying for the top/unlimited package.
Cheers

Simply phone 0800 111 4567 and tell them that your router keeps resetting itself. If you're in contract they'll give you a new HH3, if you're out of contract then by agreeing to sign up for 12 months - and they'll probably offer you a deal to lower your BB cost too - you'll get a new router.

  • Can Airport extreme be used as a repeater from the BT home hub

can Airport extreme be used as a repeater from the BT home hub because my laptop will be very far away and i currently get a rubbish signal on my Windows pc so when i upgrade to the mac pro i am wonderimg if i could use the airport extreme as a repeater to strenthen my already rubbish signal??

You might want to check with BT to see if they have a device to do what you want.
Using wireless only, the AirPort Extreme will only "extend" or "repeat" the wireless signal if it has been produced by another Apple router. It is not compatible with routers from other suppliers for this purpose.

  • Will the time capsule work the bt home hub 3

Will my time capsule work with the bt home hub 3

Apple products work in a huddle with themselves.. all others are excluded so no you cannot wireless repeat if that is what you mean.
In bridge though the TC can work as a WAP.. as can every wireless router ever made. You must connect to the home hub by ethernet. Then set the wireless manually and use the same network name, ie SSID, and security settings and password.. but you need to use a different wireless channel. You can then roam with any wireless devices..and they should connect to the strongest signal. In reality it doesn't work 100% and I think it is easier to use a different SSID and know what you are connecting too, but that is up to you.

  • Broadband Talk handset numbering on Home Hub 2B

Upgraded recently from an old Home Hub 1 to a 2B version.
Initially, I made a bit of a mess in registering the two former handsets used for BBTalk access and as an internal intercom.  Therefore I used the De-register all handsets option from the Hub's menu so as to start again from a "clean sheet".
However, it seems that the de-register option doesn't actually remove all the previous settings as I'm now left with a mess as to the internal numbers assigned for intercom calls between handsets.  Handset 2 is now No.4 and Handset 1 responds to internal calls to Nos. 1, 2, or 3!  All I wanted was what I had previously, ie Handset 1 assigned as No.1 and Handset 2 assigned as No.2 with Handsets 3 & 4 spare.
While its only a minor irritation, I'd like to tidy it up.  Any ideas please?

The home hub 2 type b has the buggiest firmware known to man, if you have an un-altered backup of the home hubs firmware, I would replace it and start again as the firmware still saves previous states even though you have reset it back to factory defaults.
I'm beginning to realise that the internal workings of the 2B does not accord with its smart black exterior!  I do have a slightly used HH2A that a friend gave me when my old HH1 started having problems with ADSL2+.
Does your experience suggest that a 2A is a less bug-prone device than the 2B?
Just about everyone on this forum suggest the type A HH2 rather than the type b it simply has been out long enough to have had most of the bugs worked out of it, Where as the type b has had an obscene amount of complaints about it from unable to media share, unusable connections, loss of hub phones I could go on all day lol
Having the option of either a used HH2a or a new HH2b available, I took your advice and changed over to the HH2a.  Now in respect of intercom calls between the (now) three handsets (a 2.1, an old 1010, and a really ancient DECT phone), the HH2a does "what it says on the tin" with each handset allocated just a single internal number to call even after de-registering and re-registering.
So telephony-wise I'm sorted with the HH2a.  Many thanks.

  • Home HUb 2 to 4 upgrade?

HI...I'm thinking of upgrading from the v2 Home Hub to v4.  I don't have infinity (not available to me), but I do have a house full of users and wireless devices, I am also thinking of installing a NAS for music streaiming...
Is it worth the upgrade?  It talks about dual frequencies (if you are close?  Am usually at least ten feet from the router...).
    Is it a painless upgrade?
    Any thoughts aappreciated!
    cheers

changing to a HH4 will not increase your conenction speed which is what you require if you have a lot of people using the conenction at the same time

  • Remove BT Broadband Talk from BT Home Hub

    Hi
We've just changed the package we were on with BT, and have been sent an email explaining that we need to remove our BT Broadband Talk service from our BT Home Hub, else it willl effect our bandwidth.
The instructions in the email are for a Software Version 6.2.2.6 or 6.1.1.R, but we have version Software version 8.1.H.U (Type A).
Does anyone know what I'm meant to do? What is Broadband Talk anyway? We've never had a telephone connected to our home hub.
    Thanks

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
What a strange request ... BBTalk certainly will not affect your bandwidth, and the service is ceasing in the beginning of 2014 I believe after a year's grace.
Either the email is a fake or sent by mistake. Either way, you can just delete the email.
BBTalk is a phone over the internet for users of hubs 1 or 2 on plain old adsl. These hubs had an attachment for a huib phone which was either included or sold separately. It enabled you to answer your normal phone line calls on it if set up, and to make calls over the normal phone line by prefixing the dialling with a 5. You had a different number associated with the hub phone, an 05xxx number or in most cases a number in the local area if requested.
    These are called VOIP numbers.
The service is incompatible with BTInfinity or for newer hubs (3, 4 or 5) as these hubs are not DECT systems for cordless phones.

  • BT Home Hub connection issue on XBOX 360

I have just upgraded from a BT Home Hub 3, to the BT Home Hub 4, before the upgrade I ran Sky TV wired, and 3PCs wifi, my Ipad and my Iphone. I also ran my XBOX 360 wifi, and a PS3 wifi, all worked no problem.
Now I am on BT Home Hub 4, all my connections are the same all working well apart from the XBOX 360.
I have tried doing the fix on the BT site logging into the Hub changed the SIDD and set the other bit to NO. this did not work.
I then reset the XBOX to factory settings as this was in another fix, I then reset the XBOX to the Hub 4, logged on to call of duty ghosts got half way through a game it crashed out saying no conection reset to test conection.
The Hub will conect to my XBOX 360 but only stay conected for up to 14 mins at most.
Do I need to go back to my BT Home Hub 3, Can any body help its starting to be a pain. As one good person said use a wired conection that would be good, but due to location would be hard. I did think upgrading was ment to make things better not harder. Please Help.

To add, I had on online chat with BT, they said that no problems exist about XBOX 360  and the BT Home Hub to do with wifi.
If this is the case why have a fix on the BT site, that does not work may I add well not on my XBOX.
I found BT online chat not much help in this case.
    Please advise and help

  • BT home hub 4 wireless connection issue on the Xbo...

    Hi all,
It has been flagged to us that there may be an issue when connecting an Xbox 360 to the new BT home hub 4.
As many of you are aware the new BT home hub 4 has dual wireless bands broadcasting in the  2.4 GHz and 5 GHz range.
It seems that when connecting an Xbox 360 wirelessly to the hub 4, the Xbox will state that there is an error, like the one below.
“There is more than one network in range that has this SSID, please change your router SSID before proceeding”
This issue seems to be due to the fact then when the Xbox scans for the available wireless networks, it sees both SSID's  and insists that one of them must be changed in case of a conflict.
This is an Xbox 360 issue and not a hub 4 problem
When Xbox 360 was released some 8 years ago dual band routers were very uncommon; so the Xbox has not been setup to deal with this type of connection.
To correct this issue we have some steps that you can follow so that you can connect to the hub. You will need to log into the BT home hub manager  and change the SSID on the 5 GHZ band being broadcasted from the hub.
Steps to do this are as follows…….
Log in to the Hub 4 in the normal manner setting up a new password or using the custom password that has been setup by the customer then navigate to the Advanced Settings
Then select continue to advanced setting
    Then select wireless
    Then select 5GHZ
After that you will need to change Sync with 2.4 from yes to NO
After this has been done you will then be able to change the SSID of the 5GZ band adding a number or a letter to the end
After all this has been done you will then need to click apply to save the changes
You will now be able to connect the Xbox in the normal way using the default wireless key

Try changing the wireless channel in the hub. Enter 192.168.1.254 then go to wireless switch to manual and try another channel. You can try downloading inssider3 which will show netwrorks and their channels round about you

  • IPod touch keeps loosing my home hub as the default wifi connection

Can any one tell me how I can keep the Home hub as my default wifi connection when I am at home. Currently I will set it to connect to the Home hub and it does no problem. then when I stop using it for a while it becomes disconnected and I have to reconnect it manually again which can be a bit of a nuisance.
Any help on this and why it is happening would be much appreciated thanx ahead of time

yes it is thats not the problem its staying logged on it seems after a period of inactivity it unlocks itself and locks on to a free wifi network like BTzone which although that is great for out and about stuff but not at home when I have my own network.....any ideas would be appreciated as to why this is happening and how I can stop it thanx ahead of time

  • Connecting time capsule wirelessly to BT home hub

Help unable to set up time capsule to wirelessly join my BT home hub (original white home hub for use in UK). Goes through all the stages then when restarts can't find airport device. Took it to local genius bar and worked fine there. Is this a problem peculiar to home hubs?

ESM@ESM, welcome to the discussion area!
In order to "Join a wireless network", you need to know the exact type of wireless security that your BT Home Hub is using, so you can provide those settings to the Time Capsule. It cannot join your network unless you have the correct settings.
It would be much easier to configure your Time Capsule to connect to your Home Hub using an ethernet cable. This will still allow you to use your Home Hub wireless network for backups, and you'll also have the option to use ethernet for backups, which will allow you to backup much more quickly. Can you consider that option?

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express Issues

    Hello all
I am having major issues setting up my airport express to my home hub and also setting up Time Capsule to join my wireless network...
I really need a step by step guide if possible.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    PC

    Welcome to the discussions!
You told us that you were having "major issues", but did not tell us specifically how you are trying to configure the AirPort Express, or what service you want it to perfrom on your Home Hub network, so providing a step by step guide is not possible without a bit more information.
Can you clarify on this, please?
In regards to configuring your Time Capsule to "join" the Home Hub wireless network, do you understand that the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled in this type of configuration, so you will not have the option to back up large files or make initial backups using an ethernet connection?
In order for the Time Capsule to "join" the wireless network provided by the Home Hub router, you willl need to know (or be able to locate) the exact type of wireless security settings that your Home Hub is using. The Time Capsule must be provided with this information in order for it to "join" the wireless network successfully.
Can you provide this information, or if you do not know, check with your service provider to obtain this information? We cannot proceed with the configuration until we have this information.
If you are able to locate the Time Capule near your Home Hub and establish a permanent ethernet connection between the Home Hub and Time Capsule, you will be able to backup using the Home Hub wireless network and also have the option to backup using ethernet if you wish. In addition, this type of installation is much simpler to configure (and more reliable in operation in my experience) and we would not need to know the type of wireless security that the Home Hub uses if you choose this setup option.
Please post back when you have an opportunity.

My Ipad will not receive signal from new home Xfinity modem.  I reset Pad but still doen't get WIFI

Does it not show the presence of a wifi signal, or just not connect?
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
