Will carbon applications run on Intel Macs?

Getting a new Mac soon and I still have some old carbon apps. Will they run on the new Intel Macs?
Thanks.

Yes. If they are Universal Binaries then they will run natively, otherwise they'll run under Rosetta emulation.

  • Will CS3 run on intel Mac?

Getting a new mac pro and wondered if CS3 will install on it okay?  Might be a stupid question, but i figured if CS5 wont load on my powermac, maybe cs3 wont work on the newer setup. I ordered CS5 for it,but the print setup is not as nice as CS3 in my opinion.

How soon are you getting a new Mac (pre or post Lion)?
CS3 runs on Intel Macs now with the current kitties. Lion may be another matter.

  • When will Quicken run on Intel Mac without Rosetta?

I've been holding off on buying Quicken for my mac mini. Anybody know when Intuit will release a version of Quicken that runs on Intel Mac without needing Rosetta? Thanks,

    Kappy,
I just looked at the Quicken Support site:
    https://quicken.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/quicken.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=4014&p_created=1137099411&p_sid=9RFCSgti&p_accessibility=0&p_lva =3793&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MSZwX3Byb2RzP Tk1LDU1MSZwX2NhdHM9JnBfcHY9Mi41NTEmcF9jdj0mcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1pbnRlb A**&p_li=&ptopview=1
This is what it says regarding Quicken 2007 for mac in response to the question "Tell me about running Quicken on the new Intel based macs":
"Quicken for Mac is not a universal binary program and will not run natively on an Intel based Mac. All Intel based Macs come equipped with Rosetta software that enables non-universal binary programs to run on Intel Macs. There are no known issues specific to using Quicken 2006 and later on an Intel Mac with Rosetta."
What is the source of your info? Thanks,
    Owen

will lightroom cc run on the Mac operating system OSX 10.8 mountain lion?

You haven't mentioned which version of Lightroom, but anything from 4 up should be no problem. Here's a link to the Lr5 requirements http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html

  • Norton antivirus will not run on Intel Mac

I installed Norton Antivirus that I received from school but when my computer starts it errors and says it will not run on an Intel Mac. How do I uninstall. I took the program and dragged it to trash but it still has a startup item.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Ah the dreaded Norton word: bane of the Mac user.
The install disc should have an un-installer or an un-install option in the installer:

Have a look and let us know how you get on.

  • Getting  ARD 2.2 to launch/run on intel mac

Ive seen some posting on how to run ard 2.2 on a intel mac which suggest the following:
    uninstall ARD
    remove client software(RemoteManagement folder)
    install ARD
    upgrade using ard admim upgrader
but when i open ard it says it had to install some necessary components and does sucessfully then just up and quits...any workaround would be helpful-
    thx

    Hope you have a backup.
Reinstalling OS X should not have any effect on applications or user data.
Erase and Install will wipe out the disk clean.
Safari and Mail should not be deleted.
    Best.

  • Authorware applications run on a Mac

Our language software runs on PC’s. We do have quite a few customers running it on Apple Macs, either via a PC partition or using a PC emulator software.
The following link indicates that Authorware applications will run on a Mac.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/authorware/productinfo/macplayer/
The Adobe Authorware Mac Player allows Authorware applications created in Authorware versions 5.1 through 7.0 for Windows to be delivered on the Apple Macintosh platform.
The Mac Player enables Authorware developers to deliver cross-platform learning applications on the Web, LANs, or CD-ROM.
We’ve downloaded the CD-Rom file from the above link viz. -
    authorware_7_packager.hqx
    which unzips to AW701_Packager.sit.
We publish our applications as an exe file for our PC software. I can’t find any instructions on how to publish as a Mac application incorporating the downloaded Mac player, do we simply publish as an exe with the sit file in the xtras folder?

You need to publish the file withOUT runtime so the result is an .a7r file, then get that .a7r file onto the Mac, along with all other resources (but not the Xtras), then run that .a7r through the Mac Packager.
However, the result will likely not work with newer versions of OS X. I think the last version of OS X that a Mac-packaged Authorware application worked with was...Tiger?
Here's an older post somewhat related:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3143519
    Also here:
    http://gantekmultimedia.com/download.htm
do a find for "Mac Packaging Bits and Bites"
You also need to further unpack the .sit file (which is a 'stuffit' file) ir order to get to the actual Mac Packager and related files inside.

  • Basics: will snow leopard run on my mac mini

    Hi
    a) how do I find out what software is currently running on my mac?
b)given I've had the mac for around 4 years and not purchased software, it's going to be running a pretty old programme I reckon. What problems am I going to encounter upgrading to snowleopard?
    Many thanks.

    Hello,
The first question is whether or not your Mac Mini has an Intel processor. Do +Apple > About This Mac+ if you need to find out. It will tell you what processor is in your mini. (Snow Leopard can only be installed on Intel based Macs.)

  • Running an Intel Mac on a Wireless Network with other Power PC Macs

I know changing the Airport to WPA encryption will allow an intel Mac with either Mac OS or WinXP OS to access the airport.
If you have powerPC Macs also, what encryption will allow both Mac (intel and powerPC) and WinXP to access the airport?
Right now either WEP for all Macas or WPA for intel Mac (Mac & WinXP).

Mac Mini (Intel), iMac, eMac, iBook, G4, & Powerbook (all powerPC)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   also 10.4+

    Hi Sherwood!
If I recall correctly, an update to Windows XP (assuming you're using Windows XP) added WPA support to the existing WEP support. The same applies to Mac OS X.
Regardless, if both OSes are up-to-date they can use either WEP or WPA. But WEP and WPA should not be used at the same time for the same wireless network. Choose one and set your Airport first (create your infrastructure) and then set all computers to connect using that same security (add computers to your infrastructure). I suggest using WPA becuase it is more secure than WEP.
This link indicates when you can use WPA on your Mac and this link indicates when you can use WPA on your Windows system.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Will Captivate 4 run on a Mac using Parallels?

I'm on a Mac system and I really need a tool like Captivate to generate presentations for the web, not so much quizzes and full blown e-learning just yet.... Microsoft has eaten enough time and money of mine, so I've got Parallels already that came with the Mac system. And I wonder if the license will convert to Mac usage when it comes out for the Mac? And does anyone have any guesses as to when that will be?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rich

I use Quicken for Windows to track a very large investment account including private investments, stock trades, interest, etc.   Quicken for Mac doesn't track all the info that I need.  I have Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 on my Mac.    If I install Parallels 9, do I still need to purchase another Microsoft license before installing Quicken?
Since your concern is getting Quicken for Windows to function, you should realize that Parallels creates an environment in which the Windows OS (Win 7, Win 8, etc.) can run on a Mac but doesn't come with Windows built in. So you'd still need a license for the Microsoft OS; the Office for Mac license doesn't apply. And since I don't believe Win 7 is available any longer for purchase, you'd need to deterrnine if Quicken for Windows 2008 can run in Windows 8 by using the link Templeton Peck provided.

  • Mac Mini Install DVD - Will it work on other Intel Macs

The DVD might boot on the Mac Pro but if it does the installer will not let you install on the Mac Pro.
There is a possible workaround that is often used, and at one point in the past was even recommended as a solution by Apple.
Boot the Mac Pro in FireWire Target Disk Mode.
Connect the Mac Pro via FireWire to the Mac mini.
Boot the Mac mini from the DVD
Install on to the Mac Pro hard disk which will show up as a FireWire external drive.
Boot the Mac mini from the Mac Pro drive which will show up as a FireWire external drive. You can do this by holding down the Option/Alt key.
Run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server Combo update.
    Shutdown the Mac mini.
Power down the Mac Pro by pressing briefly the power button.
Disconnect the Mac Pro from the Mac mini
Boot the Mac Pro as normal.
Hopefully it will boot normally but now with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server installed on it.

  • Will firefox 5 run on a mac pro running snow leopard

I like FF but am concerned whether it will run on my mac pro running snow leopard, since the download information says it is a windows program.

Snow Leopard being Mac OSX 10.6
You need to download the version for Mac, not the .exe which is for Windows.
www.mozilla.com or if you prefer a certain language no given then look at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html and look down the middle which is Mac OSX.
