Will Cisco ISE appliances answer SNMP queries ?
Hello,
It is clear that ISE is able to send SNMP traps to a remote SNMP manager machine. It seems to be embeded on Cisco Application Deployment Engine (ADE) OS and explained on this documentation:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/security/ise/1.1/cli_ref_guide/ise_cli_app_a.html#wp1014133
However it is not clear if ISE machines, regardless service persona type installed, will repond to SNMP queries coming from a remote SNMP manager.
Will ISE appliances respond to SNMP queries, provided SNMP configuration is fine on ADE OS ??
I would like to have a remote NOC to monitor first if ISE machine is up/down before a potential remote login on ISE for further troubleshhoting.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jorge Mendes
Solution
Yes ISE will reponsed to the query and A similar query is already discussed on the following page with solution to what is asked

Rename (Change of Hostname) of Cisco ISE Appliances !!!
Hi,
I am having the two Cisco ISE (Version: 1.1.1.268) appliances. These appliances are running in Failover with the internal CA signed certificates.
The hostnames are 19 character long with Upper cases and Hypen. Boxes are joined to the domain but freqently used to disconnect after sometime. After some investigation, we came to know that AD can accept only the 15 characters long hostname... thats the reason, one of the appliance keeps disconnected. Also, sometimes, the authentications donesn't works properly.
My question is that how to change the Cisco ISE Appliance hostnames without impacting the production and hassle?
Send me the steps in detail, or it is just a matter to change the hostname and register with DNS with new names and regenerated the certificates...???
Need expert opinion....
Thanks,
Regards,
MubasherHello Mubasher-
I recently had to do this and I want to warn you to be careful. I had to rename 4 hosts and out of 4 of them only 1 remained useable. The other hosts had to be re-built For some reason ISE nodes get very unhappy when trying to change certain things (Hostnames, timezone, etc) Also, keep in mind that even if the renaming goes well you will still impact the environment as the nodes will restart.
Here is what I did when I made the change:
1. Disjoin the ISE nodes from the domain
2. Ensure that their computer name is removed from AD
3. Update DNS records
4. Ensure that DNS records have replicated
5. Change names on ISE
6. Join nodes to the domain
Hope this helps
Thanks for rating! -
Cisco ISE appliance IMM/ILO port, is it useable?
The Cisco ISE 33xx appliances (IBM servers) have management ports in them. Are these actually useable and supported by Cisco for any support operation?
It is usable but not supported by Cisco. I also think this is a licenses feature from the manufacturer. You may want to open a tac case to get more details on this.

Cisco ISE Deployment suggestion required
Require Assistance on Cisco ISE Deployment for below scenario
-- We have Three Cisco ISE Appliances and Client has taken Advance Subscription License for 500 users
-- Client has DC & DR and needs to deploy the Cisco ISE in one Main Office which connects to DC & DR on MPLS Links
-- Client suggestion was to deploy one ISE node ( Admin + M&T + Policy Server ) in DC and its Standby Secondary in DR
and only deploy Policy Server in Main Office.
Idea behind the design is that ,
1) If DC fails , Cisco ISE related logs will get generated on DR and any Cisco ISE related request will be taken care by Local Policy Server in Main Office .
2) If Local Policy Server Fails , then ISE node in DC will act as Secondary backup and DR will act Teritary Backup
below is view
DC
Primary Node with Role
[Admin , M&T , Policy Server]
Main Remote Offic
Cisco ISE Node ( Only Policy Server) -----------> Network Devices
DR
Secondary Node with Role
[Admin , M&T , Policy Server]
Please let me know is it possibleYes, The scenario is quite achievable also please review the below link for assistance on deployment of ISE.

Hi Everyone,
We are a Small company with 400-Users and currently we are using ACS 4.2 at our company. we want to upgrade and use Cisco ISE Appliance instead.
I want to know is there any major changes in configurtaion between ACS 4.2 and the ISE Latest Verison..............?
Is there any Hardware (Switch or Cisco AP ) compatibility issues with using Cisco ISE. (we are currently using Cisco Cat 3550 and Cisco Aironet 2600 APs with the existing ACS4.2)
What ISE Series & what Soft version are the latest so i can order ?
Thank YouImran,
When ordering cisco ISE there are certain SKUs that will allow you purchase and deploy the equipment, however there are conditions where you will have to rely on an ATP to prepare, plan and implement the solution for you. Here is the information that you are looking for along with the hardware compatibility matrix.

Installation of Cisco ISE 1.1.4 on Cisco NAC Appliance 3315
Hi,
I am re-imaging the Cisco NAC Appliance 3315 and installing the Cisco ISE 1.1.4...
After finishing the Installation, when i type "SETUP"... It gives me the below Error;
# ERROR: INPUT/OUTPUT ERRORS FOUND DURING THE INSTALLATION! #
# PLEASE REIMAGE THE APPLIANCE OR VM FROM THE INSTALLATION MEDIA. #
Please advise....
I tried to change the Time/Date as per UTC/GMT accordingly... But, i didn't find the RAID in CLI... see the link below
(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.1.1/installation_guide/ise_app_f-installing_on_NAC-AC.html)
any idea...
Regards,
Mubasher SultanWhere did you get the recovery media? Did you download from cisco.com?
Please download the image from CCO and ensure the ISE image is valid by checking the MD5 checksum of the downloaded image is matching to CCO image. You will then need to burn this ISO image onto bootable DVD.

Cisco ISE 1.2.1 deplyomet issue with Anyconnect and Profiling
Hi All,
We are running cisco ise box in 1.2.1 version wherein I am facing below issue while deployment. We are having two ISE boxes where One box act as Primary Admin,Secondary MNT and Policy Service and Second Box act as Secondary Admin,Primary MNT and Policy Service
1) Profiling of Endpoints - HP Laster jet printer 55XX series and scanner profiling are not happing in Cisco ISE 1.2.1 wherein I have enabled below probes in ISE for profiling
RADIUS Probe
SNMP Probe SNMP Trap HTTP Prob and DNS
2) Any-connect issue - We are using any-connect supplicant 3.0.11042 for wired and wireless user profile in windows 7 enterprises 32 bit machine
- Yellow mark issue - Once authentication , posturing completed we are getting yellow mark on network drive but still we are able to connect to network
- Network Map Drive issue - Once authentication , posturing completed we are getting red cross mark on Network map drive and if we double click on that drive then its get accessible and red mark turns in to green.
For that we have already allowed Ip level access to all domain in before logon dacl ( Machine authentication )
That would be really great if any one can help me on the same.
Thanks & Regards
PranavHi Pablo ,
Please find below solutions
Yellow mark issue - - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet. This Service is by default disabled on Windows XP and Widows 8.X operating system. This is only enabled by default on Windows 7 and Windows Vista operating system.
Network Map Drive issue - Create logon script and deploy it using group policy. Script will check full network connectivity and then map network drives

Cisco ISE 1.2 & Cisco WLC 5508 v7.6
Hi all,
we are planning to upgrade our WLC to 7.6 to fix a bug with FlexConnect Client ACLs but I have just seen on the Cisco ISE Compatibility table that the it only recommends up to v7.5 of the WLC 5508...
Cisco have told me to steer clear of 7.5 as it is in a defferred status, so does anyone know, or have running in a lab or production, ISE1.2 with a 5508 WLC v7.6 NAD ?
I would much rather know of any issues people are experiencing before hand than to have to go through a software upgrade and then rollback.
Thanks all
Mario De RosaHi Neno,
right I have this almost working now.
I have simplified the setup. I am not going to do any client provisioning at the moment.
So I can connect to the corporate SSID using EAP-TLS and I can successfully push the branch data VLAN upon successful authorisation.
Now I am trying to introduce the posture element & per user ACLs.
I have defined the redirect ACL & Flex ACL on the vWLC however the NAC agent will not pop-up. The client is in the right VLAN and the redirect ACL seems to be getting applied as the client does get an IP through DHCP. However, the client cannot ping the ISE or access the guest portal when I open the browser.
DNS resolution seems to be working fine.
VLAN220 is my datacentre VLAN which the Management Interface on the controller is plugged in to.
VLAN10 is the branch DATA VLAN.

Hello
I am interested to know how the cisco ISE 1.2 base licences are consumed. As the cisco ise 1.2 user guide "The Base License is consumed whenever an authentication notification is received by Cisco ISE."
Based on the above statement i have following queries :-
Radius being the UDP based request, its only during the time endpoint is authenticated and authorized the base license is consumed and then its is released. Then how does cisco ISE tracks the concurrent endpoints connected to the network.
Thanks
Kumarthanks for the reply Tarik.
As I understand, you mean that a base license is consumed by every radius authentication request and then the license is free to be utilised again
Also would this means if Radius accounting is turned off, then concurrent sessions will not be tracked.
Thanks

Hi all,
Would like to find out on patching process on inline posture node.
My topology is one ISE appliance node type is Admin/Policy Service Node; while another unit is inline posture node.
Both appliance have the identical software versiona and patch, namely 1.1.3.124, patch 2
I would like to update it to patch version 4.
My question:
01. If i apply the patch on the Admin/Polic Service Node using GUI patch maangement, will this also apply the patch to Inline Posture node?
02. Or should i use console into Inline Posture node and using CLI way to update the patch? Anything i should mention in this process, example: stop application etc?
Please advice, million thanks
NoelResolved Issues in Cisco ISE Version 1.1.0.665—Cumulative Patch 4
Lists the issues that are resolved in Cisco Identity Services Engine Maintenance Release 1.1.0.665 cumulative patch 4.
You must deploy this patch on Cisco Identity Services Engine Maintenance Release 1.1.0.665 (with or without patch 1, 2, and 3 applied), otherwise the patch install will fail and Cisco ISE will return an error message stating, "This patch is intended to be installed on ISE 1.1.0.665."
To obtain the patch file necessary to apply the patch to Cisco ISE Release 1.1, log into the Cisco Download Software site at http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/navigator.html?a=a&i=rpm (you might be required to provide your Cisco.com login credentials), navigate to Security > Access Control and Policy > Cisco Identity Services Engine > Cisco Identity Services Engine Software, and save a copy of the patch file to your local machine. Then refer to the "Installing a Software Patch" section of the "Administering Cisco ISE" chapter of the Cisco Identity Services Engine User Guide, Release 1.1. for instructions on how to apply the patch to your system.
If you experience problems installing the patch, please contact Cisco Technical Assistance Center.
Cisco ISE Patch Version 1.1.0.665—Patch 4 Resolved Caveats
Caveat
Description
CSCui22841
Apache Struts2 command execution vulnerability
Cisco ISE includes a version of Apache Struts that is affected by the vulnerabilities identified by the following Common Vulnerability and Exposures (CVE) IDs: CVE-2013-2251. This fix addresses the potential impact on this product.
Managing Software Patches
You can install patches on ISE servers in your deployment from the primary administration node. ISE patches are usually cumulative; however, any restrictions on the patch installation will be described in the README file that will be included with the patch. Cisco ISE allows you to perform patch installation and rollback from either the command-line interface (CLI) or GUI.
Standalone Deployment
When you install or roll back a patch from a standalone or primary administration node, ISE restarts the
Application. You might have to wait for a few minutes before you can log back in.
Distributed Deployment
When you install or roll back a patch from the primary administration node that is part of a distributed deployment, Cisco ISE installs the patch on the primary and all the secondary nodes in the deployment. If the patch installation is successful on the primary node, Cisco ISE then proceeds to the secondary nodes. If it fails on the primary node, the installation is aborted. However, if the installation fails on any of the secondary nodes for any reason, it still continues with the next secondary node in your deployment.

Cisco ISE 1.1.2 and Certfication Revocation List (CRL) checking
All,
I have 4 ISE appliances version 1.1.2 running in my networ called nodeA, nodeB, nodeC and nodeD.
- NodeA is Primary Admin and Secondary Monitoring,
- NodeB is Secondary Admin and Primary Monitoring,
- NodeC is Policy node,
- NodeD is Policy node,
The ISE environment is tightly integrated with the company Microsoft Active Directory Windows 2008R2. We import the company issue cert into the ISE for PEAP and CRL checking
Question: How often does the ISE perform CRL checking with the Certiticate Authority (CA) Server?
I also have an ACS environment that also tightly integrated with Microsoft AD. How often does the ACS peform CRL checking with the Certificate Authority (CA) Server?
What will happen to the ISE and ACS environment if the CA Server becomes un-available?
I can't seem to find this question in either ISE or ACS documentation anywhere.
Thank you.How often does the ISE perform CRL checking with the Certiticate Authority (CA) Server?
ISE checks CRL based on how you configure it. Admin > Certificates > Cert Store Select your CA. From there you'll be able to edit the cert info. The last option is the CRL Configuration. You can set the download frequency.
How often does the ACS peform CRL checking with the Certificate Authority (CA) Server?
System Config > ACS Cert Setup > CRL from there you'll be able to see/edit
What will happen to the ISE and ACS environment if the CA Server becomes un-available?
Most likely the end of the world, but to be honest I'm not really sure. My assumption is If both the client and the ISE/ACS server already have their respective certs, they should still be able to work. Just no new certs or CRLs would be issued.

Hello,
We are planning to upgrade our ise boxes to 1.1.1.2xx version. I want to know which repository I should use for transferring the image? Which will be faster? sftp, ftp, tftp, http etc?Because of RNs (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.1.1/release_notes/ise111_rn.html#wp376240)
Before you can upgrade to Cisco ISE, Release 1.1.1 from Release 1.1, you must first be sure you have applied Cisco Identity Services Engine Cumulative Patch 3 to your Release 1.1 machine(s)
Yes we have a distributed deployment.
2 admin/monitor nodes ( one primary , other secondary, both VMs)
4 PSNs (appliances)
I did not understand this: "
the administration node took me over 5 hours to fully upgrade, so when you upgrade the PSN nodes you may want to reset the database so it doesnt take as long." -
Hi
Need to get information regarding Cisco ISE PSN deployment,
How PSN will be synchronizing using a multicast IP address? lets take an scenario, where i have 4 PSN and connected to Cisco switch 3560. what configuration changes are required in Cisco switch?
Lets take another scenario that we have 2 nexus switches in 2 separate DC like SW-1 in DC-1 and SW-2 in DC-2. SW-1 and SW-2 are in VSS mode. 2 PSN connecting in SW-1 and 2 PSN connecting in SW-2. can we maintain a single node group?
with regards,
RKHi There,
I think the word replication has triggered a different angle to the question. i understand the theory of node group but in the requirement of multicast, they have just mentioned that it should be L2 adjacent (i.e) in same vlan and same switch.
if multicast traffic should pass through the switch then we need to perform some configuration in switch. By default multicast is enabled in Cisco switches, but no multicast router will be configured. if the application doesn't depend on external multicast router to pass this multicast traffic then default setting is enough. if the application is depends on external multicast router then this should be configured.
if you are seeing the first question, it queries about the configuration requirement in switches to enable multicast between the PSN's in single node group which are connected to same switch and same vlan.
second question queries, in case of Nexus switch in VSS mode, switch behaves as same switch and same vlan will be available. whether single node group in same vlan can be spread across two different nexes switch in VSS mode?
hope the queries are crystal clear. please let me know the answers.
thanks for the time and effort.
with regards,
RK
