Will CMS and cluster group (quorum) failover work if FSW server is down?

I have following servers in same site and same location:-
1) NODE1 - mailbox server 1 in CCR (Active)
2) NODE2 - mailbox server 2 in CCR (Passive)
3) HUB1 - FSW
I have OS windows 2003 on all above servers and exchange version is 2007.
Now, if FSW server goes down then can I do following? please provide descriptive information.
1) - CMS failover from NODE1 to NODE2.
2) - Cluster group (quorum) failover from from NODE1 to NODE2.
Thanks,

Hi,
FSW is only used when certain node cannot work properly. However, if Hub always will be turned down for a long time, it’s recommended to move it on another server.
For more information about FSW, please refer to the following articles:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2007/04/25/3402084.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124922(EXCHG.80).aspx
Meanwhile, if all of the nodes in the cluster need to be shut down, including the active node, you must first stop the clustered mailbox server. The Windows shutdown process is not Exchange-aware. Therefore, we recommend that you only shut down passive nodes.
If an active node needs to be shut down or restarted, we recommend that you move the clustered mailbox server to another available node.

i can listen to music but my silent switch wont work my phone wont vibrate but will ring, and the volume buttons wont work the speaker will work asweell

Have you done a restore of the phone to see if that fixed the problem with the speaker? If that doesnt help then you probably damaged something inside the phone when you dropped it.
If you're annoyed by the problem, you can always get a replacement phone

  • Howto take SQL Server 2005 Cluster AND Cluster Group Offline

I need to update firmware on the backend storage used by our Active/Passive SQL Server 2005 Cluster.  The first step in the process states that all I/O to the disks should be stopped.  Per that, I need to take the the SQL Server cluster offline AND the cluster group; however, I then need to use one of the servers that participates in the cluster to perform the upgrade on the storage array.  Using the process (which doesn't account for having to use one of clustered servers to perform updates) outlined at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1550288&SiteID=1 as a basis, below is my best guess regarding what I will need to do:
    Shutdown:
    1. Backup all of your databases prior to the outage and ensure they are in a safe place (NOT on the disk drives in the cluster)
    2. Take the SQL Server group OFFLINE.  This will cleanly shutdown the SQL Server and it will remain offline when you power the machine back on.
    3. Once SQL Server is offline, power off the node which does NOT have the cluster resource currently running on it
    4. Save the node which is running the cluster group for last - make a note of this machine as it will be the first one you power back on.  MY ADDITION: Before powering it down, set the cluster service to manual so that when you restart the server to perform the storage array maintenance, the cluster will not be running - and likewise not generating I/O against the disk array.
MY ADDITION: 5. Restart the server from step 4.  Takes the cluster offline "cleanly" and brings the server back on line so that the storage array maintenance can be performed.
    6. Update the firmware on the storage array.  After that is complete, set the cluster service back to "Automatic".
    Start up:
    1. Restart the server.  Per the previous steps, the server to be restarted will be the server that last hosted the cluster group and the one used to update the firmware on the storage array.
    2. RDP into the node, open cluster administrator, and verify that the cluster came back online successfully and everything looks clean
    3. Power on the second node.
    4. Failover the cluster group across each node in the cluster and validate that everything looks OK
    5. Bring your SQL Server groups back online
    6. Validate that everything is operational
Is there a better way to do this or official documentation for the process?
    Thanks.

FYI: I did use the process outlined above to briing the cluster offline, perform updates, and bring it back online.  It worked as I had hoped.  As a test, I had also done the same on a test [non-SQL] cluster prior to making the updates to our SQL cluster.  Is it the best way to do it?  Who knows. Did it work?  Yes.

  • Changing CMS and Audit Repository databases from Oracle to SQl server 2008

    Hi guys,
We have a Business Objects Dev environment which was installed with Oracle 10g database for CMS and Audit Repository.
Our database team now decided to change the CMS and Audit databases of Dev BOE from Oracle to  SQL server 2008.
What is the ideal way to achieve this? I'm concerned because the old DB is Oracle and the new one would be SQL server.
Earlier, I have changed CMS database from one to another by stopping SIA , taking the backup of old DB into new and changing it in the Update Databse option. But in that case both old and new CMS databses were on SQL server 2005.
    Thanks,
    Ganga

    Denise,
      Thanks for the solution.
We have done Windows AD and SAP integration on the Dev BOE. Will there be any issue with those after the DB change. I am guessing there won't be, but just want to confirm. Please reply.
Also, we need to stop the old SIA and start using the new SIA after the step two is done right?

  • When will iCal and Mail on the Mac work as well with exchange as their IOS counterparts do on the iPad?

To get mail to access my exchange email I have to use a private smtp server  as the passing in the settings for our actual exchnage server have never worked.  But that does at least work.  With iCal I have never been able to access my exchange calendar.  It accepts the login and appears to connect but the calendar can never be refreshed so is non-functional.
Contrast that to my iPad where I just put in my email user and pwd (for the same account as above) and both mail and calendar are fully functional (or at least so far). This is appearently due to cal and mail on iPad using OWA for everything but fetching mail.  Why oh why is this approach not taken on the mac?

    John Galloway wrote:
OK, I'll bite.  What are these "full desktop" facilities that you don't get on the iPad?  (I have been using email for as long as its been around pretty much, but just started using email/cal on the iPad).
You're still missing the point.  The iPad uses the same code for the mail and calander apps as the iPhone.  So the code was already baked in when the iPad was released.  Thus "simple" to have the iPad connect to Exchange 2003.  Apple didn't start supporting Exchange the the OSX apps until after that and for whatever reason, decided to only go with the Exchange 2007 protocols.  Different programs and different capabilities.
I have never seen the innards of OSX Mail or IOS Mail
Not necessary to see the code for the apps specifically.  But if you've ever written any apps, particularly under a large bureaucratic environment where there are many cooks in the kitchen, you'd know what I meant when I said "...What you think can be "carried over" is a substantial rewrite to Mail and iCal.  I'm not saying it's not possible, just that it ain't as simple as you think...."
What Apple product is competing with exchange server for email?  Sure you can run an email service on OSX...
You've just answered the question.  Apple does sell a email server product and they did have MobileMe, soon to be iCloud.  Exchange is a competing product.
...but there is pretty much 0 corporate presence of Apple servers (servers not clients) as far as I know.  And sure exchange 2003 is old hat, but what percentage of clients still connect to one?
And you know that "zero" figure for sure?  Like you know for certain exactly how many (or little) Exchange 2003 servers are still in use?  I never said that there were NO Exchange 2003 servers in use.  (I have a client still on one, so I know for a fact that it is not zero.)  My point was that Apple made a decision whether to spend the time, $$$ nd effort to add in an additional feature to their existing Mail and iCal OSX apps, which uses a different protocol, to a competing product, that is not a new product and is more than one version out and that already has a specific EOL date from the manufacturer (April 2014.)  Again, I specifically state that it's not a technical reason that it can't be done.  But if you don't understand that it's more likely to be that someone saw the ROI wasn't there, then you likely will never understand.
(You will, of course, want the last word.  Please go ahead.  I have already given you answers, regardless of your acceptance of their correctness.)

  • Isolate blending and knockout groups: how they work

I have no idea, I`m not getting any visual changes when trying them as seen here.
can someone show me whats supposed to happen when I tick those options? with a screen capture perhaps before and after with layers and transparency palette in the screen cap?
to my reading, isolate blending should keep the interaction of blend modes to any overlapping objects in the group, ignoring anything under the group.
knockout group should not show any interaction between objects with overlapping fills within the group, only interaction with underlying objects below the group.
but I`m not getting either of these outcomes.

When trying to understand a feature, work with the simplest objects to which you can apply the feature. Don't confuse matters with other effects (in this case, your Pattern fill).
    As the tooltips indicate:
The Knockout Group checkbox "Prevents the elements of a Group from showing through each other." Think of it as "knockout within the group."
    1. Three squares with normal transparency overlaid on a cyan triangle:
    2. The three squares grouped:
    3. Group selected. Knockout Group turned on. Each square still has its own Opacity value, but it only affects objects outside the Group. Inside the Group, the squares knockout each other:
The Isolate Blending checkbox "Prevents blending modes from being applied past the bottom of a Group." Think of the emphasis being on BLENDING MODES:
    1. Three squares with Multiply transparency overlaid on a cyan triangle:
    2. The three squares grouped:
    3. Group selected. Isolate Blending turned on. Transparency is "normal" outside the Group:
    4. Group selected. Knockout Group on. Each square still has its own Opacity value, but it only affects objects outside the Group. Inside the Group, the squares knockout each other. Outside the Group, Blending mode (Multiply) is in effect:
    5. Group selected. Both Knockout Group and Isolate Blending on. Each square still has its own Opacity value, but it only affects objects outside the Group. Inside the Group, the squares knockout each other. Blending mode (Multiply) is isolated to the Group; beyond the Group, Transparency is normal:

No, that's a rather silly conclusion.
    There are two options:
stop using the crappy router provided by the ISP.
Physically connect the ATV to the router via Ethernet.

  • My phone battery can only last an hour. Problem started a week ago while I was in Argentina. I am back in the country now, this morning I left the house with a full battery and when I got to work the phone had shut down. Phone is 7 months old. Why?

    Dear Apple Family,
I have been using an iPhone since I lost interest with Nokia phones. I fell in love with Apple's innovation, design and technology.  However, I am beginning to lose interest wth the product as well.
I have an iPhone 5, my phone's battery can only last an hour and the phone is 7 month old.  The problem started last week while I was in Argentina. I had a bad holiday due to this, as I could not make use of the technology because my phone was off most of the time and I had nowehere to charge except to go back to the hotel.  I could not even share pictures on Instagram.  Has anyone ever experienced such a problem?  If so, why and how was the problem fixed?  I am starting to engage in a debate that I have been trying to avoid with my friends.  They say that Samsung is striving and I now tend to agree, and if the problem persists I will gladly join the Samsung family. They seem to make reliable phones.  Sadly, I never experienced this problem with iPhone 3GS & iPhone 4S.
    With Gratitude,
    Thapelo

    Hello,
If you're in a country where there's an apple shop (unfortunately not mine), go check it and ask the employee about it: he's gonna check your Iphone on a "device"
I've got an iphone 5 and it's working very well with me but I have to admit that its battery lasts (slower) than my Ipad 2.
Still i can help with some tips that may improve your iohone's battery by an hour in addition (hopefully):
    - close all apps by multitasking....
    - do NOT keep the brightness to the max
Believe me you're gonna regret changing your phone to a samsung
Hope i've helped and sorry for my bad english (has english as 3rd language)

  • Cluster Group Owner

    Hi Guys,
I have DAG extended to two sites (Primary and DR).
I have moved Cluster group owner to DR mailbox server using power shell command.
Now, when I try to move the cluster group owner back to a mailbox server in the Primary site, It doesn't work.
It (PAM role of exchange) switches back to DR mailbox node automatically, any idea why is this happening ?
Platform: Server 2012 with Exchange 2013

    Hi Raghu,
Please use the below mentioned command on the windows power shell and share me the results.
    Step 1:
    Import-Module failoverclusters
    Step 2 :
Move-ClusterGroup -Node "Any one of the node on production site" -Name "cluster group"
    Step 3 :
Please run the below mentioned command to check the PAM role and that is the server which is holding the cluster resources.
Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup -Identity "dag name" -Status | fl *pri*
To confirm that again .Please use the below mentioned command in Exchange management shell.
    Get-ClusterGroup | ft -au
In addition to that , please share the fail over cluster events which is related the cluster resources move.
To have deep dig on this case we can do the following.
From one of the nodes of the cluster, open a Command Prompt with Administrator rights.  The simplest command to create the log is to type “cluster log /g”.  A clusterl.log file will be generated and stored in the %windir%\Cluster\Reports directory
on each node of the cluster.  Note that with all commands you can use either “cluster … ” or “cluster.exe …” as they have the same functionality.
Please reply me if you have any queries.

I just wanted to point out that THIS WORKED. It's the most ridiculous sounding "fix" ever, but it actually does work. It's not our fault - Apple, come on. Seriously?
Anyway, leaving the hostname of the machine in worked too. Putting the FQDN of the machine (which is what one would expect in a field called "Domain Name!") caused it to fail again. I went back to just the hostname, and the group wikis are working as expected.
The Web Technologies Admin 10.5 PDF says "In the Sites General pane, enter the fully qualified DNS name of your website in the Domain Name field." - but if you actually FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS you'll wind up with totally broken wikis. *shakes head*

Can anyone please explain how does Hash GROUP BY And Sort GROUP BY exactly work ?
    Thank you.

As the name suggests, SORT GROUP BY achieves the same goal by sorting.According to Tom SORT GROUP BY doesn't always sort correctly .. tried to understand his explanation as he said "It always did a BINARY SORT - not a character set sort. So the data would be sorted incorrectly if you use anything but very simple ASCII strings..."
can you give me an example where binary value of a string A is greater than string B while ascii value of string B is greater than string A ?

  • Can you still work  when the internet goes down?

Since internet service in this country is pretty unreliable, will that make it difficult to get work done when internet is down? Where I live, high speed internet isn't even available, so will I even be able to use Photoshop at all? Should I just find an alternative app?

Your Creative Cloud desktop applications (such as Photoshop and Illustrator) are installed directly on your computer, so you won't need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis.
You will need to be online when you install and license your software. If you have an annual membership, you'll be asked to connect to the web to validate your software licenses every 30 days.

  • Reporting Services as a generic service in a failover cluster group?

There is some confusion on whether or not Microsoft will support a Reporting Services deployment on a failover cluster using scale-out, and adding the Reporting Services service as a generic service in a cluster group to achieve active-passive high
    availability.
A deployment like this is described by Lukasz Pawlowski (Program Manager on the Reporting Services team) in this blog article
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/lukaszp/archive/2009/10/28/high-availability-frequently-asked-questions-about-failover-clustering-and-reporting-services.aspx. There it is stated that it can be done, and what needs to be considered when doing such a deployment.
This article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630402.aspx) on the other hand states: "Failover clustering is supported only for the report server database; you
cannot run the Report Server service as part of a failover cluster."
This is somewhat confusing to me. Can I expect to receive support from Microsoft for a setup like this?
    Best Regards,
    Peter Wretmo

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for your posting.
    As Lukasz said in the
blog, failover clustering with SSRS is possible. However, during the failover there is some time during which users will receive errors when accessing SSRS since the network names will resolve to a computer where the SSRS service is in the process of starting.
Besides, there are several considerations and manual steps involved on your part before configuring the failover clustering with SSRS service:
Impact on other applications that share the SQL Server. One common idea is to put SSRS in the same cluster group as SQL Server.  If SQL Server is hosting multiple application databases, other than just the SSRS databases, a failure in SSRS may cause
a significant failover impact to the entire environment.
SSRS fails over independently of SQL Server.
If SSRS is running, it is going to do work on behalf of the overall deployment so it will be Active. To make SSRS Passive is to stop the SSRS service on all passive cluster nodes.
So, SSRS is designed to achieve High Availability through the Scale-Out deployment. Though a failover clustered SSRS deployment is achievable, it is not the best option for achieving High Availability with Reporting Services.
