Will creating playlists put songs on iPod twice?

Will it use up more of my 4 GB?

Playlists are only links to songs in the library, a playlist doesn't create an additional copy of a song. A single song can be in multiple playlists.

  • Can't get itunes to create playlist using songs on ipod

How do I integrate the songs on my ipod with the itunes on my new computer without losing my downloads? I successfully authorized my new computer (Windows XP) for my itunes account. When I access my account on the new computer it shows all the songs that are on my ipod (downloaded from old computer) but they are in faint print and I cannot play them or create playlists. Every time I log on, it asks me if I want to copy the songs from the new computer onto the ipod. I tried this once and it wiped out all my other songs. Luckily, I still had the old computer and was able to retrieve my music.

You need to connect the iPod to the original computer. Open Preferences and select the iPod tab. Choose "manually manage songs and playslists."
You need to do it on the computer you want to manually manage songs on, not the original computer.
You will now be able to create the playlists on another computer.
As stated abive, you will hav to set this on teh new computer, not the original.
Also, you don't even need an iPod conected to create or manange playlists on the computer.
If you want to create and manage playlists on the iPod you obviously will need to connect it to a computer.
But doing this only on the iPod is not a good idea because if theiPod crashes, you lose them.
Create them in iTunes and sync them to the iPod.

how to put songs in ipod shuffle

This document describes the ways to put music on a shuffle (and also shows the four shuffle models)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
If the shuffle is the current 4th gen (or 3rd gen), here is one convenient way to do it.
Create a new playlist in your iTunes library, and put all of the songs you want on the shuffle on that playlist.  (Or you can use an existing playlist.)  Back on the shuffle's Music screen in iTunes, check the checkbox forSync Music.  Choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, find that playlist under Playlists and select (checkmark) it.  You can select other items on those lists if desired, including other playlists.
When you click Apply, the songs in your selection(s) sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, to update the shuffle's songs, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The shuffle does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the shuffle (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically updates the shuffle with the same changes.

  • Putting songs from ipod into itunes

I've recently deleted some songs from itunes, but they remain on my ipod, how do i go about putting these songs back onto itunes from my ipod? I don't have a hard copy on cd.

The easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:

  • Unknown Error (:48 when trying to put songs on IPod Classic

Hello. I recently purchased an 160gb Ipod classic, and when I try to put songs on it manuelly, it seems to be working, then a pop up will appear saying my ipd cant be synced, an unknown error has occured (:48. PLEASE HELP ME, I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON. I tried resetting my Ipod, and restoring it, but it keeps doing the same thing. Any answers???????

    Try this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302684

  • MISSING ITUNES SONGS AND HOW CAN YOU PUT SONGS FROM IPOD ONTO ITUNES?

i opened my itunes one day and all 654 of my songs were GONE. the entire itunes was blank, as if it was newly installed. it wasn't.
I have an ipod mini, and that still contains the songs since i did not attach my ipod to my computer when i saw that it was empty. my ipod still has 654 songs. But the problem is, that i wont be able to put new songs if my itunes is blank.
How do you transfer songs from the ipod to the itunes? Usually when you connect the ipod, it automatically updates, so how will i be able to do that. I have new CDs and i want to put some of those songs on my ipod, but i wont be able to do that if my itunes makes my ipod blank. I called apple support but it costs 29 freaking dollars to help me.
    Can anyone help?
      Windows XP

okay, well it has been a long time since i have done this, but i will try to do it to the best of my memory.
    uninstall itunes.
    then reinstall it.
    plug your ipod in.
a box will pop up that says something like would you like to connect your ipod to this library?
    click NO.
then, on the sidebar there should be a boldfaced DEVICE sign.
    your ipod should show up.
    go to summary
then check managely manage my music, and then update.
this means that when you plug your ipod in, you will have to put the music in yourself. this is good because you can pick and choose, and you can delete songs off your ipod if you do not like it anymore. also, you have the ability to play the music on your computer when your ipod is plugged in. hope that helps..

  • Unable to put songs on Ipod

    Hello,
I have a Ipod Nano I think its the 5th generation. Anyways, I originally set it up with my laptop but since my laptop got stolen I got a new laptop and it wont let me put songs on my ipod. I clicked to "authorize computer" but that doesnt work. I get a black circle with a line across not allowing me to put songs on there. I have songs in my Itunes but it wont put them on my ipod...please help!!!

As to how to get rid of the exclamation marks, I would locate all of the music into one or tow easy to find files. In iTunes go to File...Inport. Then, browse for your folders and open them. iTunes should put them back into the iTunes Library folder. You should be able to relocate this folder on your ext. drive. It should be located in a folder called "My music" with a subfolder called "iTunes Music".
As to how to delete all of the duplicate music. I think (but not sure) that iTunes will only load one copy into the music folder.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes will not download complete song on ipod

I have tried with several different ipods and it will not download complete songs. Tried putting them on one at a time or whole sections. I did all the upgrades except the safari. Please help... I have a lot of songs and very disappointed kids too!

You are in the dreaded "Authorization Loop". Here are the usual fixes - try them in this order, syncing your iPod after each one.
    1. Deauthorize the PC for both accounts until it is showing zero authorizations on that PC for both accounts. Then reauthorize the PC again fr both accounts.
    2. Delete the SC Info folder (not just the file) as mentioned in this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
    3. Download a free single of the week and play a few seconds of it.

  • Putting songs from iPod onto computer?

  • Syncing playlists/all songs (mutliple ipods)

Ok, kind of confusing here. I have a 30gig video ipod and a 16gig ipod touch that i have synced to the same library. I am at the point now that the 16 gig ipod is almost full after syncing all songs and all playlist. The problem now is that i want to be able to keep adding more and more playlists to my 30 gig ipod.
Now the questions i have are:
Is there any way to sync all song and playlists EXCEPT certain playlists?
Is there any way to set up a smart playlist to include all songs so that i can sync that playlist and the other playlists i want for each ipod? If so, how?
I know i could set up a separate library for each ipod but i really wanna leave that as a last resort.
anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

The previous answer is incorrect. It is possible to sync ALL songs and only certain playlists. The trick is to make a smart playlist. Call it whatever you want. Under the settings of the smart playlist choose "playlist is"... "Music" where Music is the main music list default of iTunes with the blue music note as shown at the top of your library. This is the main list of music according to iTunes. This will send a copy of all the music files over to iPod. Then manually select playlists to sync (instead of automatic). The drawback is if you want to sync most of your playlists it may take a while to select all of the ones you want. Of course don't forget to check the smart playlist you just created.
    Good luck!

  • My Computer crashed-how do i put songs from iPod back onto computer?

my computer crashed a while back and i lost everything. my iPod still has my songs but i'm not sure how i can (or if i can) get them back onto my computer!!! do i need to reinstall the iTunes CD? please help!!! thanks!!!!

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Will Not Load All Songs On iPod

My iPod shuffle will not load all the songs. I have tried to reset and do everything I possably could.
    HELP ME PLEASE!!

Well I found my own answer, apparently the sync all music and playlists, was changed to selected music and playlists. When reading the Manual on use of On-the-Go, it became apparent what had happened. Still wish the podcasts were in date order instead of reverse date order.
