Will CS2 files upgrade well to CS5.5?

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro running OS Lion, which is not compatible with my previous version of InDesign (from CS2 Premium). Should the files open in CS5.5 without much difficulty? Or will I need to be prepared for some extra steps?
Would I be better off purchasing ID4 or ID5 if I can find them?
Thanks for any tips or suggestions!

There are occasional reports here of CS3 files that develop problems after opening in CS5, though I haven't seen one for months and don't recall seeing any at all for CS2 files. If you have access still to the old machine I recommend exporting from CS2 to.inx and opening that in the new version instead, but exporting the converted file to .idml from CS5/5.5 may be nearly as good (see Remove minor corruption by exporting), and may not be necessary at all. As I said, I've seen reports of problems, but I've never actually had one converitng any of my own files. That said, I take the belt-and-suspenders route these days and do the conversions first, just for peace of mind.

  • How to convert InDesign CS2 files for editing in CS5 (win)

We are a small publishing company with several top-selling language products. I need to revision a title which was published 10 years ago. The files are CS2 and I cannot open them in CS5. Seem Adobe doesn't offer any conversion utility. It seem I need to open them in CS3 then save and use CS4 to convert from CS3 to CS4, then I can use CS5. But I cannot find CS3 for sale anywhere. So I'm screwed. Please offer a file conversion service. It's just code! you can run the old versions on virtualized servers and charge $500 per file. I'll pay! I'm totally screwed. We have to recreate the entire book from scratch. I used to be an Adobe promoter, but now I'm a detractor. this is horrible.
Does anyone have old versions around could be used to get this job done?
    Cheers!

OK this is seriously messed up. I just spent the day installing trial versions of InDesign CS3 and CS4 (on a Windows Virtual PC running Windows XP) and converted my files from CS2 to CS3, then C3 to CS4. But when I try to open in CS5, they still crash InDesign CS5! Something is corrupt or incompatible with InDesign CS5 even though they opened in CS3 and CS4. wtf.
Guess I'll just have to edit in CS4 and give up on bring these files any closer to the modern world? Any other ideas?

  • Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

I currently am running Adobe CS2 on my Windows XP computer. I will soon have to upgrade to Windows 8, and I know CS2 will not run on Windows 8, but I also know that my files will not open in CS3 ('ve tried opening an Illustrator CS2 file in CS3, and it wouldn't open). Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

CS3 will definately open a cs2 file. Something is not right if it won't.  I have been using illsutrator since CS2 and have not had an issue yet.

  • InDesign CS2 files showing as CS5

    Hi all,
I currently have CS2 and CS5 running on my computer.
Some of my files which were saved in CS2 are now showing as CS5 files, which means I can no longer open them using CS2.
Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to make sure that CS2 files are not automatically chaneged?
    Thanks,
    Erin.

    Windows or Mac?
Mac will only show the most current version for all files. Windows will show the correct version via the icon.
In either case have a look at http://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/2010/07/26/soxy-1-4-1-now-available/

  • Raw files from the new Nikon D810 will not open with either Photoshop CS5.1 or Lightroom 4.  When will a real Adobe solution be available to work with Raw (NEF) files in their native format, using CS5.1 and LR4?

Raw files from the new Nikon D810 will not open with either Photoshop CS5.1 or Lightroom 4.  When will a real Adobe solution be available to work with Raw (NEF) files in their native format, using CS5.1 and LR4?

Clarification: this is a user forum; you are not addressing Adobe here.
The answer to your question as phrased is: never.
CS5 is history and it is not longer supported.  There will not be any updates or bug fixes for CS5.
You need to convert the raw NEF files from your D810 to raw DNGs using the free, standalone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 RC (beta), the first version ever to support that camera..

Will an Indesign CC file open in indesign CS5? if not what must I do to be able to open it in CS5?

No. Export it to IDML and don't expect it to be an exact match.

Is there a resource where I can see if my older versions of applications will work after upgrading to 10.8 from 10.6.8?  I have some older Mac apps as well as things like Microsoft word and Adobe professional. I know PowerPC apps won't work, but I can't tell by the version numbers if they are PPC or Intel.

  • Uninstalling PS CS4 Extended after upgrading to PS CS5 Extended

I finally acclimated to my upgraded to PS CS5 Extended after transferring over presets, brushes, actions, etc and decided to uninstall CS4.  Of course now when I open CS5, I receive an error message indicating the some of the support files are missing and I need to reinstall PS CS5.  Since this was an upgrade from CS4 that is no longer on the computer, do I need to reinstall CS4 and then reinstall the upgrade to CS5?  Or is there a way to simply reinstall CS5 and be done with it?  Since this was an upgrade purchased via download, and I deleted the disk image, where do I find the download for the upgrade?  Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

All Adobe updates are full installers.
If the update installer does not find a qualifying prior version installed, it will simply prompt you for the old serial number as well as the new one.

  • Exporting a inDesign CS2 File to Illustrator CS2 and Preserving LInks

    Hi,
I have 3 InDesign CS2 files that have several links which have been modified withing the file. The printer needs these files in Illustrator format with the links preserved, so they can swap images, adjust colors and such.
I am having a problem exporting these files to Illustrator CS2 while preserving the links.
I have tried exporting as hirez PDF/X-1a as well as a EPS. They both embedd all the files. When I go to relink everything the images come in as their original form as expected and I find I have to reformat every image which is very time consuming.
I don't want to spend hours trying to relink everything for each package, so I was wondering if there was a way I would be able to export them while preserving all my images as links to Illustrator. Is that even possible? Is there an option in CS3 perhaps? I am willing to upgrade if necessary.
    Please Help!

My boss is in charge of talking to the client and the printer. I am the designer asked to post this question to see if there was another way besides spending hours adjusting these files. I believe he is going to try and convince him otherwise looks like I will be relinking and adjusting for a while to give them what they want.

  • How to upgrade to Ps CS5 on new iMac

    Hello-
I'm anticipating my new iMac i7 anyday. I want to upgrade to Ps CS5 to the new system, not my current old iMac which I have CS2 on. Since this is an upgrade will that be possible? Can I buy CS5 & install directly to the new iMac or do I have to install it to the old iMac where it will overwrite CS2?  I don't know how I will move it to the new system if I have to load it to the old.
    Thanks-
    Rhobes

All Adobe upgrades are full installers.  All you need is to have the serial number from the previous versions handy when the installer prompts you for it as well as the new serial number.

  • CS5 InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format

I'll be working in InDesign CS5 with no problems then at some point I'll double click on an InDesign file and a window comes up and says - InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format. Sometimes when this happens I have to completely reboot my whole system before I can get InDesign to function correctly. Is this a flaw with CS5? Did not happen with previous versions. It doesn't always happen but I can't figure out what causes it. Would appreciate anyones help. I'm getting to really HATE InDesign!!

I have not uninstalled and reinstalled, but I did just switch over to another workstation using Time Machine. The previous system was Leopard. This one is running Snow Leopard.
I'm not sure how to parse this. When you say "switch over to another workstaiton using Time Machine" do you mean, "started using another machine that happens to be using Time Machine for backups and is also running 10.6 instead of 10.5"?
Or do you mean, "Used the Time Machine program to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6?" If you mean the second one, well, I can't say I am surprised that things are messed up. And that would make your problem rather different than the other posters, which is good reason for you to have started your own thread (and thus your own solution)....
I'm a little bit leary of getting in and changing things in Terminal, without understanding what I am changing. Plus this is a workstation at work, so if I screw something up, that is not a good things, and I don't have time to spend a day fixing things back up again, with the way our workload is.
Well, you can find a lot of marginal documentation about lsregister and Launch Services, but I wonder whether your understood the ramifications of messing with Time Machine (or maybe I have misinterpretted you!). I'd be surprised if you found another way to fix this, other than uninstall/reinstall.
    Good luck.

  • ITunes, TV Series - Menu display's the 853 x 480 files as well as the 1280 x 720HD files?

    Hi All
Can anybody tell me why the iTunes, TV Series - Menu display's the 853 x 480 files as well as the 1280 x 720HD files?
It means when you scroll through you TV or film collections using your remote you get a duplicate title. I can understand having 2 files for viewing on the iPhone or HDTV but you would think iTunes would filter and display the files subject to how you were viewing your TV shows etc?
Can anybody tell me how to solve this?

3 Items show up, all the same:
    ThinkPad Display 1280 x 800
I first tried to remove, rebooted, and nothing happened.
When I went back in to device manager, they all 3 showed back up
Second time, disabled all 3, rebooted and nothing happened.
Third time tried to remove 2 of the 3, nothing happened.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
I have been working on this for over a month.  If I upgrade to Windows 7, I can get online, will all of these problems go away?
I have all data and pics that I need saved as well.  I just don't have the recovery disc.  I am thinking I might as well

  • Can Indesign CS4 open CS2 files?

Simple question, can Indesign CS4 opeen old CS2 files? Someone told me it can't. If that's true it's a disaster.

[Jongware] - I know that, I'm not asking about CS2 opening CS4 but vice versa.
    BobLevine - that's what I'm asking. I hope you're right, thanks!
It's incredibly important to me because time has come to upgrade my computer, and I have CS2 on it, but I've heard Windows 7 doesn't want to run CS2 at all, so if I upgrade to Win7 I'll have to upgrade the CS as well. And then someone told me ID4 can't open ID2 files anymore. That would render all my older work unusable.

  • I can not find the dmg for upgrade Photoshop Extended CS5.5 to CS6

    Hi buddy
Can anyone tell me how can I download  PS extended CS6 install pack (upgrade version from CS5.5 ,NOT RETAIL, for mac, dmg file)

In case you do not understand, there is only one version of most Adobe software packages.  The difference between an upgrade versus a full versus a student/teacher versus an extended version is in the license/serial number.  The serial number dictates how the software is processed when you install it.
    CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html
You can also download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.
