Will dv6000 accept a sata III hard disc?

I want to speed up my ancient dv6000 which has 2gb of memory and an AMD processor.  Will the dv6165d accept a sata III hard drive even if it runs at sata II speed?  Thanks for your help.  Jerome

It is not true SATA at all but IDE running through a physical SATA port. That is why the AMD dv6000-6499 would install Windows XP without any need to load a SATA driver. Models dv6500 and higher with AMD processors have true SATA but it is SATA-I

  • Can i install sata III hard drive?

Hi, i've an iMac G5 20" iSight with an intel core duo 2ghz. I would like to know if  i can install a sata III hard drive like 128GB Crucial m4 2.5" SSD.
    Thx a lot.

First, you do not have an iMac G5. G5s are PPC machines, but yours is an Intel model.
You can install a SATA III drive but I would not spend the money since your model only supports SATA I or SATA II depending on which model you have. I would also be careful about using Crucial SSDs because they may not all work in a Mac. I would get your SSD at OWC instead. You will find their equivalent product for SATA I or SATA II here. I have two of these drives, and they are excellent.

  • Will a SATA III Hard Drive work on a Mac Pro 2,1 (2008)

Will a SATA III work on a Mac Pro 2,1 (I think 2008)?

If not the above, then what?

Apple Pro RAID card is not compatible with 3TB drives and never will be it now seems. It also lacks any real performance and is destined where RAID 5 is a must.
SSDs are a more interesting matter in choice and support... but not traditional platter type drives.
I use SSD for system now 100% on multiple systems, 10K WD VR ($200 for 1TB / 180MB/sec and variety of WD blacks and Green.
2008 has some interesting stuff, PCIe mix and support and booting, but more choices in GPU. Runs best with all 8 DIMM slots filled. Was the first to have UEFI to support 64-bit kernel but does not support industry standard enough to support Windows 8 UEFI.
Storage market would be a total mess like it was back in 2004 when SATA 1.0 moved to 2.0 and lots of problems. SATA 1.0 in early G5 was just PATA with an SATA interface chip slapped on and not "native" SATA. THAT is where the "will the IBM Hitachi or Seagate or Maxtor" really did require research. Not with Mac Pro line 2006 and on.

  • Sata III hard drive cable compatible with older generation of macbook pro

Would my macbook ( 17 in mid 2009 ) be compatible with a new hard drive cable ( sata III ) ? I upgraded my hard drive to Samsung Pro 840 and wanted to upgrade my sata II cable to a sata III for faster read and write. Is this possible?

    Dave The Newbie,
replacing the cable will not increase the interface speed, just as putting racing slicks on a minivan won’t make it a dragster. I have the same model SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and my MacBook Pro’s SATA interface is limited to SATA II, just like yours. Unless you’re planning on mainly running disk-bound apps, it’s not something that you’ll need to worry about — just enjoy the SSD as is.

  • G4 will it accept E-Sata Controllers

Can you tell me if an e-controller will be accepted by my system.
And if so what controller would you recommend. I do video editing and would like to increase response time from my external hard drives.
    Thanks for the Help

    Bus Speed 133mhz

    Take a look at this:
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/temposatax4p.html
I've had good luck with the internal version of Sonnet's SATA card in my QS G4.
This is actually a PCI-X card, but is backwards compatible to PCI and the G4 ... not as fast as in a PPC G5 with PCI-X slot though. Only problem is that this is a dead-end upgrade ... won't work in an Intel Mac or WinPC with PCIe.

  • Can I upgrade from Sata II to Sata III hard drive on HP DV6 6030 PN: LF039EA ?

Can someone tell me if I could?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

There could be some limitations (e.g. of the BIOS, or components etc) not supporting this. Hence to the best of my knowledge, I think it is not possible.

  • Leaving room on Hard Disc for downloading Rental Movies.

Using the Sync mode vs Streaming. How do you Sync music and playlists to the AppleTV and leave enough room for Rental Movie Downloans...need to save about 10 GB for HD movies.
SUGGESTION: Seems like we need a selection on the Apple TV Summary page in iTunes which would allow us to specify the hard disc space to be kept vacant.
Automatic mode and Custom mode fills the AppleTV to the brim.

I have checked my settings. It appears that in either Custom Sync or Auto Sync, if you are syncing any music at all, the software will automatically fill in any unused hard disc with more music. The only way I can see to leave unused disk space is to not sync any music. Or, just not use syncing and use just Streaming by selecting "Add Shared iTunes Library" from the "Computers" area of the "Settings" screen on the Apple TV.
Could you be more specific with suggestions?

  • Macbook Pro 2011 SATA III support

I would like to know if the new Macbook Pro 2011 supports SATA III SSD's. I know the thunderbolt needs the Sandy Bridge to work, however I am not sure if that means that the chip will definitely support a SATA III SSD. Does anyone know ????

    Eww,
Thank you very much or your response. I have a clarifying question. I am looking at buy a OCZ VERTEX 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD and I just want to be sure that if I spend the money on it I am going to get 100% functionality to include the 6/Gbps, minus of course the TRIM feature because from what I understand Apple locked it out. Do you know if this drive will work on the 2011 MacBook Pro.

  • Does x220-i7 and x230 support USB 3.0 and SATA III (6GB) ExpressCards?

I am going  to buy a used  x220 i7 or x230 i5 and would like to confirm:
1)Each and every x220 and x230 laptop (regardless of model and options)  does have an available (external) MiniPCI Express slot.
2)Every x230 i5 and x220 i7  (including those that do not have  a built-in USB 3.0 port) will fully support  a USB 3.0  ExpressCard adapter  with 2 USB 3.0 ports and will get a USB 3.0 speed on Win7-64.
    3) Every x230 i5 and  x220 i7 will fully support  a SATA III (6GB)   ExpressCard adapter  with 2 ESATA ports and will get a  SATA III  speed on Win7-64.

False. It's an ExpressCard 54 slot.

It will support the card, but speed may be limited due to the limitations of ExpressCard.

  • New iPod 160 iTunes 10.4.0.80 slightly used...had been docked to BOSE portable after sync -- had to reset -- didn't work, hard disc status will not pull

Have 2 new iPod classics -- later docked to BOSE Portable. Synced. Hung. Reset for Apple symbol which sat there. Hard disc function, iTunes does not recognize. iTunes is version 10.4.0.80 Can buy a third. Probably same thing will happen. Had once managed to have ITunes find, had to completely add all new back in (there is only about 24 gig left of the 160 gigs -- so that takes a long time) -- but iTunes just won't recognize...ideas???

I finally stumbled across a fix for this problem, and in case someone else is frustrated at some point by a similar issue I'm posting what finally worked to enable me to bring iTunes up at any time (without rebooting first).
The solution was to go to the preferences to uncheck "search for shared libraries".
I'm glad the problem is fixed, but Apple developers really should include a timeout function on iTunes search for a shared libraries. At least a visual dialog to confirm that the application is in the process of searching for a shared library on the network would help provide clues as to what is causing the spinning beach ball to appear right about the time the application window should pop up.

  • MacBook Pro will not accept anything in the disc drive?

I have tried every kind of disc possible about 10 times each. CD's/DVD's/Even PC Games. All on different discs every time.
My MacBook will only accept the disc for no more than 5 seconds, making a noise like it's trying to read it and then stops, and then reboots itself again, repeat 3/4 times and then ejects the disc out.
Previously it was having trouble ejecting the discs every now and then, but I just lifted the laptop on its side to help encourage it to eject.
I have tried the troubleshooting tests (shutting down, holding the D key) and it says that everything is fine. I'm worried my hard drive may be dead, but I don't see how when I have hardly any data on the laptop. 80% is all in a portable hard drive.

Will this get stuck in the slot though?
    Possibly.
And how do I shoot compressed air into it… using a hairdryer on cool or something? (I'm hopeless at tech, sorry)
One can purchase compressed air in a can.

  • On my Macbook pro 15 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

On my Macbook pro 15, 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

That is correct. The tech specs indicate:
    Hard Drive Interface
    6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)
    Optical Drive Interface
3.0 or 6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)

  • IMac 27 inch i7 OSX Lion will not boot up from Hard Disc

iMac 27 inch i7 OSX Lion will not boot up from Hard Disc on cold start, and cannot find wifi hardware in the machine.   Restart and everything is fine.   I have two machine and they behave the same.   Software or hardware problem?

First of all, try a hard restart; making sure no disks are in the slot, unplug everything from your computer (keyboards, mice, etc.) and then unplug the computer itself. Leave it unplugged for a minute or two, then plug it back in and boot it up.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the option-key on your keyboard. The screen should show a choice of which disk drive to boot from. Choose your usual drive.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the shift-key on your keyboard. It should take a while for it to boot up, as it is destroying all connections to sources that may contain a virus.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down keys "option-command-P-R" until you hear the startup tone a second time.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the C-key. Make sure you have inserted the installation disk before doing this step.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the command-key and the R-key.
If that fails, please reply to this and let me know.

  • I have a late 2011 mac book pro and I'm wondering if it uses SATA II or SATA III for the hard drive? Which eventually I'm going to replace with a SSD.

I was wondering if the late 2011 macbook pro uses SATA II or SATA III for the hard drive. The reseason I'm asking this is because some day I'm going to replace the Hard drive for a SSD drive down the road and would like to use all the performance of the SATA controler.

    SATA III.

Go to the Help menu in Photoshop and choose Activate. It should open a wizard allowing you to do this.
If that fails, Contact Customer Care after clicking on one of the activation links. The more information you give them, the easier it will be for them to help you.
